FEMA runs out of money as Trump Jr. blasts admin for diverting $1 billion to illegal immigrants

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has warned that FEMA "does not have the funds to make it through [hurricane] season" as it continues to respond to natural disasters. Donald Trump Jr. blasted the Biden administration in response, criticizing it for diverting nearly $1 billion in FEMA funds to shelter illegal immigrants, arguing the money should have been allocated for disaster relief efforts.
Key Details:
Mayorkas, during a press briefing on Wednesday, stated that FEMA "does not have the funds to make it through the season" as the agency grapples with ongoing disaster recovery from Hurricane Helene.
Trump Jr. accused the Biden administration of depleting FEMA's emergency response funds by funneling nearly $1 billion into the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), which supports illegal immigrants.
Critics, including Trump Jr., argue that the diverted funds could have been better used for disaster relief, particularly as FEMA faces a shortfall during an intense hurricane season.

Meanwhile, the federal government is blocking private-sector aid deliveries:

Trucker Ryan Tyre, who has done private-sector disaster relief -- you know, providing the stuff that shows up on time and under budget -- laid bare yesterday FEMA's dirty little secret. While his group was trying to bring in supplies to the Florida Keys, isolated by Hurricane Irma in 2017, authorities tried turning them away:

The federal agencies had US1 shut down just South of Key Largo and wouldn't let anyone in or out, even though the road was okay to pass.
We explained to them that we had boats, Jet skis, food, water, chainsaws and fuel to bring these people.
They didn't care and wouldn't let us in.
Tyre and his people snuck in by boat anyway, and a Key West local -- thrilled to be getting water and other necessities from Tyre -- explained that "FEMA had set up a command center at a local high school on the island, but that they weren't doing anything to help the residents, not even bringing them WATER!"
For five days.

It's much the same in North Carolina, where state and federal officials have been leaving American citizens stranded in the floods. Helicopters are needed to save people, and the feds have sent... a couple. And are blocking civilian rescuers from flying.

Jonathan Howard with Florida State Guard Special Missions Unit assisting with aerial recovery in North Carolina following the damage of Hurricane Helene, delivered a video message explaining what is really happening on the ground.
"I had my team up here working as well. Here's the problem. I'm going to tell you everything that's happening from the ground, what I'm actually seeing, because what they're telling you is complete bullsh*t on the news and these politicians don't have a f*cking clue and they're lying," Howard said.
"I don't know why they're doing it," Howard said of the federal response. "I don't know what kind of conspiracy I've heard so many things, whatever you want to come up with, but they are literally allowing these people to f*cking die in the mountains right now because we can't get helicopters. They got money for everything else in the f*cking world right now."
I'll say this now. I'll say it at the end of the video. The only thing I need from this video is helicopters.
If I have helicopters, I can save lives. Without helicopters, I can't reach these people. It doesn't matter how many chainsaws and trucks I got, I can't get to them.
They're 10 miles in, 20 miles, 40 miles in the mountains. There's no way to get with them or even communicate with them. I am literally flying around in a civilian helicopter looking for SOS messages carved in the mud or painted on the ground and we're dropping down and saving them.
What got me fired up about this was yesterday, me and my team did the rescue of that 11-day-year-old baby and all these government officials and social media, they're showing that video, that pictures and video of that rescue and claiming that they have some government help with that. Even USA Today wrote an article about it saying it was a Florida National Guard that went and got it with a helicopter. No, it was me, my buddy Charlie, and a civilian named Zeb with his own personal helicopter out of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Without that civilian, that baby would be dead. And the old lady we went and rescued after that, she'd be dead too because she had one day left of oxygen. No one was going to go get them.
I will tell you when we go up in the air, I probably see 40 civilian helicopters. I might see two Blackhawks, National Guard, military, whatever they are. That's it.
No one's out there doing rescues. I have my entire team up here from Florida right now and they have no ability to go rescue these people other than what they can drive to. And the people that are in dire need, they're out in the mountains.
They are completely cut off. Now I will say I spoke to my Congresswoman down in Florida and she's a badass and she made a bunch of phone calls and now we got two contracted 60s coming up here tomorrow, which is great. I love that, but like I still don't understand why we don't have more helicopters.
Like we'll get a lot of work done with that, but there's no, there's no military. There's no, no one's doing nothing. I just, it blows my mind.
And they're not even allowing people to see what's really going on. One of our friends yesterday, they were actually escorting CNN down to Lake Lure and they wouldn't even let CNN, the sheriff department would not let them go videotape the bad areas of how destructive it is. I don't know why they don't want to show you all that, but I mean, it is bad.

He says that his public pressure campaign has worked, and now civilians are donating their helicopters to save people. I guess the feds still have their thumbs up their asses, booking hotel rooms for illegals.

I know a FEMA guy via one of my wife's colleagues. Mentioned simply that we got a little water in the basement from the time we had three consecutive tropical storms. Guy wanted to know if I reported it to FEMA to be added to the flood map.

That is the mentality you are dealing with. My property did not flood from living in a lowland as I live on a slope at considerable elevation. It got flooded because the ground next to the house was saturated and the water was being pumped into a crack at the foundation of the basement pour and the CMU wall. Used hydraulic cement during the influx and the infiltration of water went away.

Changed landscaping, no more water infiltration.

Meh. That is a non-issue. That mine may be the "only" source of supply because they were able to contract up the entire market. Would-be competitors don't get in the game because there is no spot market for high-purity quartz. This is true of many specialty minerals. Producers and users are contractually bound together.

I am sick to my teeth of paying to rebuild homes on coastal sandbars, beaches, and in floodplains, so I want it clearly understood that if you choose to build in such a location, that's on you. Last two houses in which I lived could be added to flood map based on those loose considerations, including now where I live on top of a mountain which is basically a pile of sand.

First required fixed sump pump and redirecting up hill waters around the property into storm drains. Current required moving gutter water away (house was a work in progress) from structures into dry wells.

That is true of most federal departments nowadays. They are simply redundant and useless. The Dept of Education is a perfect example--its interference in public education has led to a spiraling decline in actual literacy. Something even Cuba has managed to do for its people. Public Education in this country is every much the same disaster as what happened in Appalachia but due to its silent victims--we have allowed the educrats to perpetuate an evil and corrupt system that benefits only them.

Subsidiarity (policy decisions pushed to the lowest level possible) is the only way out of this mess.

They are a political machine, not a party. (The GOP is as well, but to a different degree.)

Political machines run on coercion, manipulation, and exertion of power through government apparatuses.

The people that end up taking elected positions don't rise because they're good at politics or competent at basic governance. They rise because they know who's back to rub, who's knob to polish, and how. As the machine ages, its elected and appointed officials becomes stupider and less able to do basic governmental things.

If they have complete control over the feedback mechanism to the people (voting), they can keep that for a long time going. There's no reason to improve because the only feedback is what donors and the already entrenched say, and they don't care about, say, trash collection or street crime or...disaster relief.

I have 5.11 pants, 4 pairs actually. Kaki, black and a couple pairs of jeans.
with the exception of a tight inseam, which is likely on purpose the pockets are great. Jeans have a perfect pocket for mags inbetween the side and rear pockets. And the pants have belt loops in two sizes for thicker carry belts.
I did buy them before they lost favor, and the jeans have long perished but the pants I have are still going.
