Hitler Burn.jpg

His political descendants are still quite active, but this is how the enemies of the people of Israel usually end up. That's a photograph of some reporter poking around where the bodies of Hitler and Braun supposedly were burned. For almost 3,000 years, kings and emperors and despots have come and gone, but the people of Israel remain.

Am Yisrael Hai...and we do not require anyone's permission.

6 The cow art is intriguing. Kind of self-referential, in that it's a painting of a cow looking at a painting of cows.

Something about the way the men are dressed and have their hair suggests the 1920s.

Posted by: Ciampino - a steak a la Bismarck? at October 07, 2024 09:37 AM (qfLjt)

27 From the Metropolitan Museum of Art site:

In this wry painting, a cow stands in front of Paulus Potter’s The Young Bull, 1647, now at the Mauritshuis, The Hague, while the human experts wonder if the cow can distinguish artifice from reality. Will she bellow a greeting, or admire Monet’s Grainstack (Snow Effect), 1891, on the wall to the right? Tansey offers this critique of the role of representation in modern art as a method of revitalizing the tradition of painting. His use of grisaille, or grey monochrome, relates to the tradition of academic painting but also to his job as an illustrator for The New York Times. Such strategies of appropriation define much of the art of the 1980s in New York, where Tansey still works.

75 Well, this is different. Tansey's talent is obvious with his ability o paint nearly photo quality realism but with a slight twist of the colors. What catches my eye is the humor. The two cows staring at each other, the pretentiousness of the 'serious' onlookers, and the man (dressed formally like the others) with the mop to clean up after the cow is hilarious. I don't know if Tansey is making fun of so-called academics on purpose but if that was his intention, he succeeded.

Also, using a monochrome approach, like it was a photo from an earlier time or text book, adds to the silliness of the 'scientific' endeavor.

Posted by: JTB at October 07, 2024 09:46 AM (yTvNw)

76 Tansey offers this critique of the role of representation in modern art as a method of revitalizing the tradition of painting.

I suppose it could be that, if I had any idea what that word salad was supposed to mean. Or maybe he was just mocking academic "researchers" as so many of them deserve.

101 For almost 3,000 years, kings and emperors and despots have come and gone, but the people of Israel remain.

There is an old joke that goes something like this (and you can tell it is old by the people named)

Yassir Arafat had just finished giving a speech at the UN denouncing Israel as Ariel Sharon had his turn at the mike.

We Israelis have complaints with our Pali neighbors as well. And long held ones. As we all know when Moses arrived in the Holy Land he put down his staff and his cloak to bathe in a stream.

And when he did a Palestinian bandit leapt out of the woods and stole them!

At this point Arafat could take no more and grabbed his own mike and shouted, "LIES! We all know there were no Palestinians in the Holy Land when Moses and the Jews arrived!"

Sharon let him finish, turned to the crowd and said into his mike, "And on that I agree with Mr Arafat"

So there is some irony actually in the settlement of modern Israel.

While there were Jews and Muslims in the current borders of modern Israel before Zionism it was poor and had a low population - the Ottomans poorly managed their lands outside of Asian minor.

Then the Zionists started coming bringing Western knowledge and people. This created an economic boom which offered work for Muslims from the surrounding areas like Egypt (Arafat himself was Egyptian).

Dogs vary by individual and by breed--some dogs are sight hounds and some by smell. Some do both. We have a mixed doggie household, one doesn't believe what she sees unless there is smell. The other is triggered merely by the sight of things--not so much by smell.

I think Labs are sight oriented predominately. Something like a bloodhound is smell oriented for example.

Some people posit that redemption is possible but the Biblical text itself does not directly support that supposition.

Basically, the argument if the Lord is love, then how could a Lord of love permit everlasting damnation. The counter argument is that the Lord is certainly love but also of judgment. Judgment is what sends you to damnation because of an individual rejection of the love of the Lord demonstrated by faith and following his precepts.

Always best to keep the eye on the ball for individual salvation and give witness to others so that they may choose to go to the light.

Posted by: The Central Scrutinizer
========

I feel like there should be a reserved section of Heaven for those who have been redeemed in the afterlife.

Not the full Heaven experience, but maybe something like your TV is fixed on channels with foreign languages you could never understand and your food is always just a degree or two off from being enjoyable.

Not a specialist but that sounds like the idea of Purgatory which is part of the argument that everlasting damnation may not be the fate of all evil doers in life.

Me, I dunno, only worried about my salvation and that of loved ones and those of the various dogs (and even a cat) that I have had the privilege of being with.

Obligatory:

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

... ? something sounds off about this. A) if that scrap can blow away from someone's ruined back yard, it can blow away from the landfill too, unless there's people there to handle it how trash would normally be handled, which there apparently aren't, because they would have opened up for you. B) Landfills are private property. Allowing anyone to put their trash there is how they make a living, it's not a public resource for anyone to use at will, emergency or not. Would anyone say hooray if they broke the door off someone's house to use their well water because it's an emergency and people need to drink clean water?

I don't know. My gut reaction is something other than "Yay!" on this one.

One sure sign of the gut-busting soapbox street-corner preacher is the use of the fake name, even while holding forth in the asylum. You may tell yourself you have taken this place, or certain other places, over -- but people still notice what a kook you are. And God knows, too.

322 A very good painting by the artist but I think he was simply having fun with viewers. If not, wouldn't Tansey have painted a full grown bull v. cow being used for the Innocent Eye Test? 😉 (Then things might have gotten real dicey.)

Encyclopedia dot design, 2023/04/08
In part,
What Does Mark Tansey’s Innocent Eye Test Reveal?
Meaning of Innocent Eye Test
The picture depicts a cow that has been led into a museum gallery. Leaning against the wall and unveiled at the moment of encounter is a famous painting by Paulus Potter of a young bull. In the distance is a grain stack by Monet. The cow is confronted with two desires, food and sex, with sex being offered first.

Innocent Eye Test – Viewers’ Perspective
The viewer may think, I have 100 questions; what will its response be? Will its eye, innocent of theory and history, see the young bull as its soul mate? Or will it see nothing but a flat surface with oil paint of different colours arranged on it? Will it be confused by the conventions of representation? Or is the innocent eye of the cow equivalent to the high modernist eye that proposes that what you see is what you see, a large flat object leaning against the wall?

Thanks.
