The Morning Report — 9/27/24

defloerableBill.jpg

Good Morning Kids. As you can see up top, Helene has slammed ashore in Florida as a Cat-4 storm leaving millions of people in the dark across the southeast. Prayers for all affected to be unharmed and as minimally impacted as possible.

There are a few things happening here as well as internationally that while alarming and disturbing in and of themselves perhaps are indicators that may not guarantee a Trump victory in November seem to think that there is a palpable perception/fear amongst our enemies foreign and domestic that that might be what they are seeing in the cards.

As Putin threatens to use nukes should borscht-belt wannabe, from the actual borscht belt Zelenskyy use US and western missiles on Russia, we have a new rocket man in the east who made something of a splash, in the Pacific causing much wetting of pants by our allies in the region:

Australia and New Zealand are looking for an explanation from China on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) for its unusual test-launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) into the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday. The two island nations said they would consult with other members of the Pacific Islands forum (PIF) before the UNGA wraps up on Friday. . . China launched an ICBM into the Pacific for the first time since 1980, in an unusually public demonstration of military power. Chinese officials blandly insisted the test-launch was a "routine arrangement in our annual training plan," even though it was clearly nothing of the kind. Beijing has been coy about the missile hardware it tested and its intended flight path, but the Associated Press (AP) on Thursday spotted a map published in a Chinese newspaper that showed the missile flying in a straight line from China's Hainan Island to "the center of a ring formed by Solomon Islands, Nauru, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Western Samoa, Fiji, and Vanuatu."

Xi and his nation of tyrannical communists are itching to grab Taiwan, while we are otherwise engaged for the next few months. mostly because it is painfully obvious that no one is in charge in D.C. and those making the decisions have a hate on for this nation as much as the communists. Mostly because that is who and what they are to begin with. Plus there is ample evidence that so many in our political class are in Xi's pocket to the tune of billions. Yay, bipartisanship!

A couple of items just are utterly radiant in their level of chutzpocrisy. Which for those unaware is my mash-up of the words Chutzpah and hypocrisy. They go together (like rama-lama-lama)

As long as we're in the vicinity of the open sewer that is Turtle Bay, take a whiff of this emission:

The head of Haiti’s “Transitional Presidential Council” Edgard Leblanc Fils demanded “historical reparations” for his country at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, asserting that the international community has an “essential role” in Haiti’s recovery. The Transitional Presidential Council, which Leblanc presides over, was formed at the end of April following a prolonged period of political negotiations to serve as the nation’s working government after months of gang violence left the country on the brink of total collapse. Haiti has not had a president since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021. . .

. . . In his speech to the U.N., Leblanc extended a salute to all Haitian migrants around the world, assuring them that, wherever they are, the council he leads is “thinking of them until the conditions are right for them to return to the fold.”

Speaking on behalf of the Haitian people, Leblanc also extended “fraternal greetings to all the friends of Haiti” that have shown solidarity with its migrants, making special mention of Springfield, Ohio.

“The long history of friendship and mutual solidarity between our two nations, since our participation in the Battle of Savannah in 1779, allows us to say with confidence that the American people reject any incitement to hatred against our community,” Leblanc said. “The active participation of Haitian immigrants at various levels of American life is tangible and significant.”

Reparations? Maybe you should be hitting up the Clinton Global Initiative and Underage Sex Trafficking company, LLC! Maybe if you backward savages didn't spend the last couple of hundred years grifting and abusing your own citizens, your nation would more resemble your neighbor to the east, the Dominican Republic, by comparison a civilized, peaceful, and stable society. Instead, you insist on modeling yourselves after one of world's worst failed states imaginable – CALIFORNIA!

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a series of “reparations” bills on Thursday, including a formal apology for slavery, even though the state entered the Union as a free state in 1850. . . Newsom signed several other bills passed by the state legislature and pushed by reparations activists. As Breitbart News noted, however, the bills did not include actual cash payments or a reparations fund, provoking protests.

So, empty promises. Typical lefties. . . The movement for reparations gained traction during the chaotic summer of 2020, when protests and riots spread across the country in the wake of the murder of George Floyd by police in Democrat-run Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Minnesota. Where Tampon Timmy Walz was governor. God-forbid he and Kalorama Harris are installed in November, we have a whole lot of Racial HEELING ahead of us:

Walz Education Appointee Calls for the Overthrow of the U.S. Brian Lozenski, an associate professor of urban and multicultural education at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minn., was appointed by Governor Tim Walz’s state education department to help write the statewide “implementation framework” (similar to a curriculum) for Minnesota’s new “ethnic studies” standards. It now emerges that Lozenski has called for the “overthrow” of the United States. Lozenski is no outlier. On the contrary, he has been the leading voice advocating the addition of a radical version of “ethnic studies” to Minnesota’s social-studies standards (citizenship and government, economics, geography, history, and now ethnic studies). Lozenski is also the key organizer and thought leader for the radical leftist advocacy groups that Governor Walz has effectively put in charge of rewriting Minnesota’s social-studies standards.

You can make the case that America as founded has already been "overthrown" politically and in many aspects societally/culturally, by scanning the links and more and more, by just looking at your own lives and that of your loved ones as lived lo these past few decades.

What this Lozinski cancer is itching for, is reparations in the form of gulags and mass graves. It all boils down to that. And they'll dress it up as self defense to preserve and protect our precious democracy.

On that note, I give you the beast that ate Port Au Prince:

Failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton doubled down this week on calling half of former President Donald Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.”

Clinton reflected on the infamous and divisive comment she made during a fundraiser in 2016 in a Washington Post op-ed published on Wednesday, adapted from her new book Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty. In the article, the former secretary of state recalled a meeting she had with a former white supremacist who now works to deprogram people leaving hate groups as an entry to discuss her “deplorables” comment, and said the term is “too kind a word” for some of Trump’s most fervent followers. . .

. . . Now some of those folks, they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America. However, Clinton has since called for “formal deprogramming” of MAGA “cult members” — a tone she similarly struck in her Washington Post column by discussing her “deplorables” comment alongside her meeting with a former white supremacist who now “works to deprogram and rehabilitate people leaving hate groups”:

Now you can understand how Trump gets shot at twice, and how transexuals can shoot up Christian schools and how pregnancy crisis centers can be firebombed. When one is dealing with what is called evil, then there is no measure short of eradicating that evil that can be acceptable. That is their mindset and self-justification for everything they do. And while some believe this toxic garbage, Clinton and her ilk are only interested in preserving their power and influence, yes ideologically but in terms of raw greed as well.

Donald Trump’s immigration plans and rhetoric are similar to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s, according to a recent Salon piece warning that Trump “plans to turn America into a type of Fourth Reich,” targeting immigrants and minorities with “white supremacy” and “racism.”

The projection in this projectile vomiting is just off the charts. As commenter MP4 once quipped, and I'lll paraphrase, if we as conservatives were a fraction of the Nazis you claim we are, you all would've been smoke up a chimney years ago.

When you consider Hillary, Walz, Kamala, Ibram X. Krement's critical race theory (aka Jive Kampf), and what successive generations of American children have been and cotninue to be brainwashed with,

perhaps this book is telling us where we are headed as it takes a look at where those who had a front row seat to the same craziness and where it led.

Have a good weekend.

7 As a reminder, the Amish don’t have smartphones

I wouldn't be too sure of that. Watched one of those treehouse builder shows a couple of years ago and saw a pair of Amish carpenters assisting the show's host. They were using power tools.

I thought, wut? Well, turns out the Amish carpenters told the host they could use modern things, they just couldn't own them. So, I'd say they get someone to actually buy and own the account, but use the modern conveniences just as much as anyone else.

Roof replacement is ongoing. It is, unfortunately, not a neat process. There's a nimbus of scraped-off shingles surrounding the house. Mixed in with them are innumerable small screws and nails. We'll have to go around with a magnetic broom in an effort to pick them all up.

Lots of hammering and noise. Diana became upset and had to be taken down to the kennel to get away from it. Fitz and Dot were put in the same pen in the breakfast area for mutual security. We have to carry Fitz out to an exercise pen far away from the house so he can do his business.

Hoping it all gets finished today.

26 One thing to think about when it is reported that "2 million people without power" in a news broadcast, I think they are talking about customers or subscribers. 48 I bought a Honda eU2000i in Jan. 2008 for just under 1000 bucks. There are less expensive models but it is a good one, serves my needs.

They have a funny, ya gotta leave the "ON" switch on, and the fuel vent closed, to keep the fuel primed into the system/hoses/fuel bowl. There is no primer bulb pump as some small engines had.

It sips the fuel, runs a 5000 btu A/C unit in a small camping trailer, cold enough to hang meat on a hot day. It will also run a space heater (although other forms of heat are less expensive and quieter). Charge batteries, run pumps, computers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, various doo-dads and hair clippers etc. Coffee pots.

I was making popcorn in an old West Bend (with the melted butter contraption on top with lid, that everybody only used once) near Monument Valley. A nice Navajo lady with her elderly mom stopped and wanted to sell us some Turquoise stuff. I didn't buy anything but they liked and were impressed with my Iowa popcorn, and I figured them Injuns know Corn! Very nice people.

57 One thing you can do for a small gasoline generator, like stoves and lanterns, for "stand by duty" regular automotive gasoline will not work, it spoils like Milk eventually. Coleman Fuel does not, it will be fine for at least several decades. It is low octane, about 50 - and wouldn't be suitable under load, not for use - but for storage it is absolutely perfect. Old, stale oxidized gasoline is a problem over time for infrequently used machines.

I once read somewhere this (Naptha, or Coleman Fuel) is what first responders keep in the fuel tanks for things like "Jaws of Life" because it has to start first time everytime and can't be bothered to change out the fuel every month.

No doubt so they'd claim but the truth is that they don't want peace. In "fairness", they don't want Israel to be wiped out either. They want the issue to remain unresolved, just like abortion, or Ukraine, or immigration, or race relations, or...

It's rather like the saying that every time a doctor cures a patient they lose a customer, every time an issue is resolved some segment of government drones loses their nominal reason for sucking at the tax teat.

Boy, I could not disagree more. They don't believe they are fighting evil because most of them will tell you they don't believe in evil. Everything is subjective, everyone deserves to be heard including pedophiles, and everybody is right on the test.

It's hate, anger, envy and will to power. "Fighting evil" is just the cover story.

Hitler's first foreign policy success came in negotiating a border adjustment in South Tyrol with Mussolini.

The Kristallnacht episode began when the Nazis expelled 12,000 formerly Polish Jews across the border to a Poland that refused to admit them.

Reminds me of Justice Janine making the case regarding George Floyd back then. She called it the case for "Murder One", but the facts that she laid out made it pretty clear to me that it wasn't murder at all. Maybe that was her way of getting the truth out there, while appeasing her corporate masters.

There was a point, for example, where Floyd was sitting in the police car, and claimed to be having trouble breathing. It turns out that that's a symptom of the kind of drug overdose he was having. Totally corrupt, how they convicted the cop, when Floyd had enough drugs in his system to kill 2 people.

ANSWER: 2/3 of the way though the season, there have been 9 named storms, including 6 hurricanes, 2 of which were major. Compare that to 14.4, 7.2, and 3.2 and we're having a pretty average season. "Climate scientists" predicted "extremely active hurricane season". Due to "Global Warming", no doubt.

I noticed one oak tree in my back pasture is down, but it was a tree that was leaning really bad and splitting down the middle that I was going to have removed soon anyway because I knew it was in danger of falling.

Besides that, it never really got bad here. Not sure there was ever a gust more than 30/40mph or so.

It did rain a ton, but that’s it. There was never any thunder, lightning, or anything that even felt like a storm. It just poured all day.

103 OT: Pre-treatment started Wednesday. 1st actual treatment today. Since insurance would not approve the current best treatment b/c it's still in clinical trial (even though my genetic type of cancer literally says "pursue clinical trials as 1st line" - aka, don't take standard of care b/c it will kill you), we're doing the "less is more" plan, which was another phase 2 clinical trial which had success - b/c that one cost way less (1 $180K med, not 3, although the 1 never stops while the 3 stop in 2 years), so insurance approved that clinical's protocol treatment without batting an eye.

I've got my allopurinol, my anti-nausea, and my 1st dose of Brukinsa done (2 pills 2x/day...forever). Before my misdiagnosis, this would have been my treatment for CLL, so maybe someone above had a plan (b/c if I'd have started in March before the new doc fixed the diagnosis, I'd have been on this)...

Here's to few or no side effects...and for long and lasting effectiveness. If it doesn't work, I get to "fail" and add meds in 2025 (or sooner). But you know, it might be nice for less to work...and work awhile. It's kinda a wildly different approach to normal MCL, but I'm not normal MCL.

213 Another way for virtually anyone to have a bit of preparation for electrical power outages are the classic 2 burner Coleman green suitcase stoves. They will run perfectly fine on ordinary unleaded automotive gasoline. A spot o' Tea - right as rain you know, or hot coffee when required, will make you the Hero or at least appreciated. They are often found for $5 or $10 or even free. The lanterns are also very useful. LED lights are great but a Coleman lantern provides a significant amount of heat, something no battery operated device willl do. They are very safe and produce no dangerous levels of CO. Always need good ventilation in any case but during an emergency our air quality standards can be relaxed a bit, I think. Keep your family and friends safe!

245 Our corner of Iowa didn't have great pizza. It did have a chain called Shakey's that was pretty good, or good enough. Very large pies, fresh made with aged dough, lots of parm and garlic. It smelled wonderful walking in.

Pizza Hut was a distant second in the 1970s. The difference was, they delivered. Shakey's did not. The Pizza Hut pie was distinctive, and whatever it was, they changed suppliers and ingredients and whatever to where it is pretty much unrecognizable to the Pizza Hut "brand". The crust especially is completely different.

Now what's weird, Dominos in those days was a distant 3rd in the delivery. This was what you ordered when you was too poor for that upscale high-falutin' Pizza Hut. And it was ... well ... sort of like Pizza.

Today? I think a Dominos might be a better pie than Pizza Hut. Sad.

Long ago and faraway, Little Caesars was advertising a deep dish pizza where the outer crust was delicious strips of crispy baked bacon.

The kiddos wanted it, so I went ahead and ordered not expecting much, buuuuut-

it was surprisingly good.

SCIENTIFIC PROOF: Bacon makes even a box of trash taste good!

Then LC eliminated that pizza from its menu, never to return. Natch.

Right. Construction - such as it was - in such areas was either extremely robust or essentially disposable. Now, not so much. Construction in such areas is fairly normal and extremely dense, with the magic of "insurance" to offset how dumb that is.

Look at old pictures of houses and the like in those places. Stilts are common. Often, they're just shacks. If it blows down, slap up another one.

But that isn't how it goes anymore. That land is nice and pretty most of the time, and prices demand more quality. The density is much higher, with an expectation of permanence that isn't really sensible.

The *consequences* of big storms keep getting bigger, the storms aren't actually much if any different.

322 What is AOC's track? House leadership, possibly speaker? Or higher office? House to Senate to Executive?

Unlikely. She'll be on television. She has the perfect background for politics, majoring in political science/economics at Boston University, interning for Ted Kennedy, responsible positions in start-ups serving the community...

Maybe Speaker in 20 years. She's certainly not going to overstep Hakeem Jeffries. She's been making some good moves lately but, for goodness sake, let her gain experience.

AOC is becoming a skilled DC politician with experience. Backlash against AOC is because of agendas she threatens.

She'd make a helluva senator tho! US senators are the most milquetoast, establishment, intransigent MFers you'll never meet. That particular bicameral chamber could really use a good shaking by the scruff of the neck. BAD PUPPY!

I see her as very ambitious, and distancing herself from the squad to gain establishment acceptance. Compare her to someone like Rashida Tlaib. I could also see run for mayor of NYC because she's always commenting on NYC politics.

Limestone, I think.

Some guy moved to Florida and was displeased with the bagels. He wanted to try his hand at it and opened a bagel shop. Couldn't get it "right" like in NY. He even trucked water down and it didn't work, because the water went stale. He ended up building a small water treatment system to inject minerals into purified water to make his Florida water match NY water based on chemical analysis. He was finally happy with his bagels.

Was it worth it? Did it actually work? Who knows.

Eh, like almost any cookery, it takes a bit of experimentation to get it right.

Dough and sauce, but, of course.

But, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-, even with dang cheese there's a shocking amount of variation and taste and quality within the same category.

Then don't even get me started on the meats. Again, lots of variation.

Then you've got to learn just how much stuff you can actually pile on top, so you don't wind up with a wet mess.

But, you may luck out a find a good recipe straight off.

363 No, Pizza has always been kind of expensive. A "rip off" if you will, to anyone who watched their money closely, like anyone who avoided credit and debt, the majority of Americans before 1980 or so.

"Real" ingredients have gotten expensive, and generally seen a wave of ersatz replacements for wholesome foods like cream, butter, cane sugar and other simple ingredients. Indigestible fats, and other long term chronic liver hazards. I'm looking at my cohort of friends, that age group and the number of dead from the Big C is astounding.

The online clowns have muddied the waters and overwhelmed what used to be some of the best places. Plus they’ve added people to the list who don’t belong there. Because they wouldn’t know pizza if it walked up and spoke to them. My favorite pizza place is in Brooklyn. Owned by the same family forever. Same recipe and ingredients. Consistently good.

387 Bread flour - high protein aka "strong flour" is what a lot of people like for bread and pizza. It is much more aromatic and flavorful, if the dough is aged a couple days.

Caputo or "OO" flour, is italian high protein flour ground very fine. Use good flour and make a good crust, and you will find Love! Garlic, parm, maybe olive oil, cheese, basil, pepperoni, onion.

Pizza is simple. Use good ingredients, and it won't make you sick like the industrial products do. Simple as that.

If you could corner this eel, ask exactly how the National Hurricane Center would have--could have--stopped this hurricane from hitting, they'll call you a racist and change the subject.

I mean, look at the magical, religious belief here: The mere existence of Bad Think incurs the wrath of those pathetic gods.
Not even the most devout Bible-thumper (that they hate so much) lives their life in that kind of constant agitation that there are some folks somewhere who don't believe in their god.
But, there they are, preaching that their god is angry because all the people do not believe and has thus punished the lands with a storm.

412 A little fun tidbit for you:
If you go to Galveston, most of those old houses you see have basements.

Not because they were built that way. (No one builds basements in TX)

After that hurricane, they brought in 10 feet of dirt to raise the whole city.

The first floor became the basement and the 2nd floor is now the first floor.

That's how devastating the storm was and how dedicated they were to it not happening again.
