Secret Service Agent Accidentally Shoots Himself

A U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officer accidentally shot himself while on duty in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night, according to a statement from the Secret Service. The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near 32nd and Fessenden streets in the northwest part of the city.
The officer was handling his service weapon when it discharged, causing him non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. No other individuals were harmed during the incident, as confirmed by Lt. Paul Mayhair, a public information officer with the Secret Service.
The Secret Service's Office of Professional Responsibility will investigate the circumstances surrounding the discharge. This review is part of the agency's protocol to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
The Secret Service has yet to provide further details regarding the condition of the officer or potential procedural changes following the investigation.

Public confidence in the U.S. Secret Service has taken a major hit, with a new Gallup poll showing a 23-percentage-point drop in approval following two attempts on former President Donald Trump's life. The most significant of these incidents occurred in July at a Pennsylvania rally, where a gunman grazed Trump's ear, wounded two others, and killed a rallygoer. Then everything gets twice as hard because they have half the people working, and the other half just in the way (or worse.)

So they demand more money. More money does not go to productive workers (white males,) it goes to more DEI. More waste. More graft.

The tactic was "inability" but the strategy was designed. How many and how far down as far as strategic planning isn't nailed down, but the "failure" was part of the design. The agents tasked with physically serving as human shields did the best they could to actually perform their duties - both optimal and sub-optimal - but anything above frontline service has some measure of culpability and at the highest levels, damage was intentional. Plausible deniability was going to be the figleaf of a successful hit. That and an MFM, aka the DNC political campaigners, would provide cover.

No. A draw from concealment has four parts.

Defeat the garment (move clothes out of the way)
Stab and grip (stab strong hand to gun)
Pull and crash (move hands together)
Drive and pull the trigger

Cross draw has a much longer stab AND pull and crash movement. It will always be slower.

Fair enough. This seems proper.

But what I do not understand is how anyone with a negligent discharge is ever returned to armed duty. Knowing and training with your weapon is central, and failure to secure your weapon at all times - when holstered, when holstering, when drawing - is central to that. Failing to achieve the core basic premise of your duties would seem to preclude future service, especially if it causes injury to yourself or others.

Unless the discharge is found to be non-negligent. I can think of some scenarios where that could be the case (weapon is drawn but the officer/agent is taken by surprise in a fight, during which time the weapon is discharged because of the physical combat as an example). But if it is found to be negligent, how is the person ever returned to duty?

The most common ND causes I know of, in no particular order are :

1. They dropped the gun and tried to grab it mid air, pulling the trigger.
2. During holstering, he had the finger on the trigger or something got into the trigger guard (eg clothing or a collapsed leather holster bit)
3. Some morons unload their gun and pull the trigger to release tension on the trigger spring. It's really not necessary and you shouldn't get into the habit. Some guns also require this step to field strip for cleaning. If you don't unload properly ... BANG.
4. They were dry fire practicing and they forgot to unload. Sometimes NDs happen when a person reloads the gun after dry fire practice, then they pull the trigger one more time out of habit/reflex.
5. Some morons rely too heavily on safeties and will pull the trigger, convinced in their head that the safety is on and functioning well. tHe SAFety Is on, whAt aRe yoU WORrIED about?

I know of at least one case where a guy had a really old piece of shit leather holster that had mostly collapsed. The shape it took after collapse had a finger like nub sticking in, inside the trigger guard area. One day, the guy holstered and the leather nub actuated the trigger and BANG.

More often, it's a piece of clothing that gets caught in there and the force of holstering combined with the pull of some clothing can pull the trigger.

I personally got into the habit of putting my thumb on the hammer during holstering. That way if the hammer starts to move I can stop. This is one reason I personally don't buy striker fired guns.

I always look while reholstering, which can be a challenge for some gravitationally afflicted people.

Otherwise, I guide the pistol in by using my index finger as a guard over the trigger guard to make sure nothing is protruding into the trigger guard area. It is mostly a two handed affair.

My Springfield XDs have a strap safety - like 1911s. When I reholster, I have my thumb on top of the rail over the rear sight. Pointer finger down the side of the rail. This way my palm isn't anywhere near the strap safety.
