The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

*****

Good morning boys and girls and every thing in between. Wearing white after Labor Day is frowned upon, amirite?

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Suamico.)

1. This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2. Be kind, be nice. Even trolls have feelings. And please. No jumping on the couch.
3. Running with sharp objects will eventually cost you. Just a friendly reminder.
4. Have a great weekend!

*****

Thank you Annie for your stellar work with the Weekly Prayer List.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

8/6 - LMD Outer Banker requested prayers for a son who is undergoing an experimental treatment for chronic Lyme disease, which he has been battling for 25 years. He will be in a clinic abroad for about a month.
8/31 Update – The son is on his way home. After one month of treatment, the tests appear to show he is free of Lyme and its coinfections. For the first time in 15 years, he no longer has to take antibiotics. Now the challenge is for his immune system to repair itself to be able to ward off future problems. The clinic indicates that will take about 6 months of healthy eating and supplements. Thank you for your prayers; LMD Outer Banker and family are crying in joy.
9/7 Update – Someone Else asked for more information about the clinic and location where this treatment was possible, if LMD Outer Banker would be willing to post a comment with that information, or let Annie’s Stew know so she can forward the information. Someone Else has a relative who has suffered for years and was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Someone Else’s relative also needs prayers for healing.
9/14 Update – the Clinic is in Germany, under clinicum.st.georg. (The URL is https://www.klinik-st-georg.de/en). It is extremely expensive. The son said for most of the people there it was life or death.

8/17 – Oddbob asked for prayers for the family of M, his daughter’s friend, who passed away last week.

8/17 – Dave in Fla asked for prayers. He is looking for guidance related to his job. He is about 3 years from retirement, and returned to work from a vacation to find that he was removed from his position without explanation, and after demonstrated success, due to office politics. He still has a job, and can keep working in FL, but he is also considering an offer from the company’s San Diego location. It’d be a burden to be bi-coastal for 3 years until retirement, but he knows and trusts the people at that location.

8/23 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant requested continued prayers for J.J. Sefton. J.J. is feeling “not too bad, all things considered”. His post-radiation/chemo MRI is scheduled for the first week of Sept, and this is when he will find out where things are at, concerning his cancer. Please keep praying for complete remission, recovery, and a return to good health.
9/7 Update – J.J. sends his thanks for all the prayers and kind words. He says he is convinced that it has helped him get this far.
9/14 Update – J.J. said the medical team is very pleased with his progress, and the next phase is 6 months of maintenance chemo and continued monitoring via MRIs, presumably for the rest of his life, however long that is to be. He also asks God’s blessing to all.

8/24 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for a friend, P, whose daughter was getting married in the RCC church on 8/24. P is disaffected from the RCC, believes in God, but not in Jesus. P’s wife is involved in the RCC church, so this is a sticking point with her. Also, prayers are requested for blessings for the daughter and son-in-law, and that everyone gets back and forth safely, and that the people at the wedding feel the presence of God and have a lovely time.

8/24 – tbodie Lurker asked for prayers for a 2nd ablation surgery, scheduled for 9/30. Hoping this one sticks.

8/31 – Tonypete requested prayers for his wife’s friend Barb. She is suffering from some type of mental disturbance and is a mess.

8/31 – Huerfano asked for prayers for a nephew, FHC, who sustained a lower back injury in a car accident a couple of months ago. He is running out of treatment options, short of surgery, which no one wants.

8/31 – Jewells45 sent an update. She started on Cyremza 2 weeks ago, and the only side effects are really bad headaches and fatigue. She is praying this works.
9/7 Update – Jewells and her husband had a tough weekend. Jewells had a lesion on her leg that hurt so bad she couldn’t walk, and her husband had to drive himself to the ER. He was unable to urinate, and in terrible pain. The problem was related to his prostate.
9/21 Update – Jewells and her husband had a bad week. They went to ER again, and after 6 hours of waiting, only to be told that blood in the urine is common when you have a catheter. He also had a bladder infection. Jewells also thinks there are more lesions forming in her rib cage and upper arms. They are very painful. The infusions are going pretty well.

8/31 Zibby requested prayers for her brother-in-law, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 2 months to live. The family is in shock and Zibby’s husband is devastated. The BIL is the oldest sibling and beloved by everyone. Thank you for your prayers.

8/31 – AnnaS1’s husband died in July, and her heart is shattered. She needs some prayers. If anyone else has lost a spouse, how did you get through it?
9/14 Update – thank you to the people who have responded in comments and contacting Annie to share their email with AnnaS1.

8/31 – Morgan, loyal lurker, just got a new job and is very hopeful. He is requesting prayers that this will work out, that he can prove to be a valuable employee, and that God will bless the firm and its clients.

9/2 – Anderson Cooper’s giant anus has a praise update for the prayer list. His stage 4 esophageal cancer (lymph nodes and lungs secondary) is gone after 6 months of integrated therapy. The new scan is clean. Praise God. Thank you Horde.

9/3 – Ben Had posted that JT is sounding really good and sends his thanks for the prayers and concern. He will be in the rehab facility for a while longer.

9/7 – Tonypete requested prayers for his lovely better half. She had an injury that resulted in 4-5 staples in the back of her head. No permanent damage or serious injury, so they are thankful for that.

9/7 – Sal asked for continued prayers for Pooky’s girl, who is waiting for Lil’ Pooky to be induced (or not), and prayers for her friend J, 80, who could use prayers for healing. J. tripped and face-planted on her patio. She is home, but facing a longish recovery.
9/14 Update – Baby boy Pooky has arrived. Mom and baby are home.

9/7 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for healing for C, a member of her congregation, who is undergoing cancer treatment (chemo right now). She has a positive attitude, but the chemo exhausts her.

9/11 – Jmel asked for prayers for her sister, who was hospitalized, and sent thanks later in the day to those who prayed. Her sister’s blood work is looking good.

9/14 – COMountainMarie had asked for prayers. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of weeks ago.

9/14 – MH sent a prayer of thanks for the fire fighters and first responders for tackling the dangerous “Davis Fire” in Reno, NV this past week.

9/14 – Sal asked for prayers for E and her 100 year old mother, who is being moved into a new care facility this week, that the move will not be too difficult and that she will adjust well.

9/16 – Teresa in Fort Worth asked for prayers for her husband’s coworker, Chuck. He is a young family man in his 40s who received a diagnosis of colon cancer a few months ago, and things are looking pretty bad right now. He had been receiving chemo in preparation for surgery, but now the tumor(s) are intertwined with other organs, so they cannot safely operate. He and his wife divorced a few months before the diagnosis, but she is still helping him out. His two adolescent sons are having a hard time adjusting to all the upheaval. Chuck is planning to sell his house so he can move in with his dad, who is in bad health as well.

9/16 – notsothoreau asked for prayers for a woman from church, R, and her family. R just lost her son to suicide. He left a wife and 3 kids behind. There were no warning signs and R is in shock.

9/17 – PA Dutchman asked for prayers for his sister, Lori, and her husband, Fred. Fred just learned that he has stage 4 lung cancer and there is nothing doctors can do for him.

9/18 – “…” asked for prayers for a friend, “J”, who was injured in a hit and run. He is left with back pain and his arm is numb.

9/19 – Nova Local posted that she

1 A positive update on J.J. Sefton:

Things have definitely moved in the right direction. (The details are for J.J. to share.)

Know this: The prayers are definitely working. Please keep praying for God to strengthen and help him and uphold him with His righteous right hand (as per Isaiah 41:10).

5 Prayers up for those that have asked us for them;
Prayers up for those that know they need them but have not asked us for them;
Prayers up for those that need them but don’t know it yet; and
Prayers up for those who pray alone, asking for help in silence, and whose prayers are known but to God!
Prayers up even for all "our" politicians who have apparently decided that the 10% graft and power are far more desirable than honor or integrity, may they see the error of their ways and repent!
And lastly, prayers up for former (and hopefully future) President Trump, keep him safe from harm and may the many forces of evil arrayed against him and our country be made ineffective and come to naught!

16 I'm starting to get nervous about that tropical disturbance in the northern Caribbean.

The GFS model runs first showed it making landfall as a CAT I along the LA-MS border late next week

The next model run showed a shift eastward to landfalling around Mobile Bay.

The latest GFS model run I saw showed it coming ashore over my house...again.

I went through both Ivan and Sally -- on the same date 16 years apart -- and really don't want to go through it again.

Having lived in west central Virginia for a decade, the Boar's Head brand was accorded great acclaim and it commanded a price premium.

Now that it has become little more than a protein-based conveyance for esoteric communicable diseases, I suspect that premium is no more (or their sales have tanked, appropriately).

76 My son is an analyst for Schwab. Smart guy but a bit of an airhead. He and his wife drove 250 miles to see us and to participate in a 65 mile bicycle fun ride with 999 of their closest friends. There is an additional loop on the ride that is optional but due to inclement weather forecast the organizers will noot let riders do the extension if they are not at the loop by a certain cutoff time.

They stayed at our house last night and left at 5:30 to make sure they got to the starting line (fifteen miles from our place) early enough. At 7:00 my wife's phone rang. I said "What did he forget?'[

"Mom, can you get my bicycle front wheel from the garage and bring it to me?"

Somehow I don't think they'll make the cutoff.

People should probably realize-if they haven't already, that I utterly clueless about rock groups except for the Beatles because spouse likes them and Dire Straits because I like them, and I know some songs by the Rolling Stones. So yes, I know "Kiss" was a group but I coudn't name one song by them except for now, "Beth" My sister was supposed to instruct me about modern music but she left to go to university in Australia which left me with my mother's influence which was Irish folk music and Classcal music. Milk is hard core. The facilities are usually clean room level. They HAVE to be. If just a little bit of milk spills anywhere, your facility is going to reek- and that is not a good look. As a consequence, you usually have really really good sanitation and quality.

117 I do think prayers are answered,
especially if they are of a positive nature,
and there are enough of them focused on an issue,

People can be dismissive of the magical arts like Wiccan,
but if you think of it as a way of manipulating natural energy

128 I'm tuning out the election as best I can (though the humor value is extraordinary) because on the spiritual level, it's not entirely clear who should win. By that I mean that God is just and loving, and as a loving parent, he knows we need correction from time to time. He permits evil because it can bring about a greater good. This has happened so many times in my life, the old "Blessing in disguise."

How many people care called to repentance when everything is going well? Our society is the richest, most advanced and most decadent that the world has ever seen. We absolutely have the means to eliminate hunger and poverty, but we instead spend our resources pleasuring ourselves, mutilating our youth, and pushing the bounds of degeneracy.

Obviously, I pray for mercy and forgiveness, but I also accept that I am not without sin and much of the misfortunes that have overtaken me are in no small part of my own doing.

136 With canning, the big fear is botulism. That is the killer. If you are in acidified foods, you are pretty safe because as long as your pH is below ...3.7(?) botulism just can't grow.

In other stuff above that line and in anaerobic packaging (which is most) they work like hell by packing everything full of preservatives.

Regulation and banking practices are turning every industry in to a cartel enforced by the government, and I know I am boring on how I go on about this, but the purpose of a cartel is to provide minimal quality at maximal price while being shielded by lawsuits. the whole thing runs on influence and kickbacks and the goal is to asset strip the company, the employees and the consumers.
There are solutions but they involve People like our beloved legislators and the investors not making insane profits. There is something obscene about a group of people who came to power on the basis of books like Sinclair's The Jungle, recreating it because "it gives good jobs to the disadvantaged"

142 What we are called to do - and to a certain extent ARE doing i our inimitable Moron Horde way - is spread the Good News, be disciples of Christ and the many, many blessings He bestows on us.

There's a place for snark, but we have to temper it with praise and joy. Last week I read the most damning insult I've ever seen on David French (and around here, that's a very high standard!): "How many people has he converted? How many people has he brought closer to Christ?"

It is difficult to evangelize in our secular society, but that is our calling, and we need not be Jehovah's Witnesses passing out pamphlets to do it. Simply being there and sharing prayers can be the pebble that starts the avalanche.

Or by equal application of laws like those against domestic violence, drunk driving, drugs, retail theft, and identity fraud.

But those don't happen either. If you're an illegal you can just do as you please, short of murder, and that's getting iffy.

The idea behind sanctuary cities and states giving them a free pass on most laws is that it prevents us, the host country, from forcibly deporting them... If your jurisdiction is willing to protect the guy driving through your neighborhood drunk at 75mph at 8.00a in a truck he financed with a fake SS card, so he can get to the tattoo parlor for his MS-13 face illustrations, then I doubt they're fretting too much about employment verification.

171 117 I do think prayers are answered,
especially if they are of a positive nature,
and there are enough of them focused on an issue,
after all, we live in what can be described as a medium,
which is plastic or fluid in nature and can be moved in
a direction through focus and intention.

People can be dismissive of the magical arts like Wiccan,
but if you think of it as a way of manipulating natural energy
or the medium once again, it is easier to appreciate.

293 I've been reading a bunch of true crime type books. The now infamous crime wave that emerged from the Midwest in Depression era had its origin in immigrants whose only employment possibilities were the stockyards and slaughterhouses, under miserable conditions. Some said, screw it, a life of crime is preferable. From thence came Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd and others.

296 For a skin cancer, get thee to a dermatologist. I had something barely discernible on my cheek and the removal required 7 stitches. Cancer and homeopathy don't mix.

Yeah, I've discovered that my future involves seeing a dermatologist once every six months.

Same here. I stopped seeing the doc because Covid had given me an attitude. I had a growth on my upper jaw. I got grief from my wife my daughter and the horde. I have a 4+ inch scar on my jaw now. That wasn't the first so I should have known better. I'm back on the 6 month cycle.

297 Madonna became a parody of herself around 60 years old. But before that she was till putting out music and touring successfully well into her 50s.

TayTay still has a lot of years ahead of her if she wants. And her latest music isn’t pop stuff, it’s more mature. The bubble gum pop stuff is well behind her.

299 Heh.

There was a beer store in the town next to where I grew up. My town was dry, but the next town sold beer and wine.

The store was named "The First and Last."

The rally-goers are vetted, and aren't going to start spontaneous pro-Hamas demonstrations at Kamala's rallies.

If we had an actual news media, it would be fascinating to learn how Kamala recruits people for these things.

Former Michigan Governor William Milliken played the Rick Wilson card for 20 years, going so far as to attend Republican events while endorsing Democrats.

The press would play along with his trolling every election.

Pappymayhem passed in 2020. I still haven't deleted his cell number from my phone. And anytime I text the word dammit it auto fills the word Dad immediately after. Whilst going thru stuff after his passing, we found his pack rat tendency had gotten rather out of hand. Every time we found a new stash of junk someone said or texted "dammit Dad". We said that a lot. A Lot. More than you think. A LOT.
