The Carina Nebula is a vast region of bright and dark nebulosity located in the southern constellation Carina. It is also known as the Eta Carinae Nebula, the Grand Nebula, and the Great Carina Nebula. With an apparent magnitude of 1.0 and an apparent size of 120 arcminutes, the nebula is easily visible to the unaided eye on a clear night. It has the designation NGC 3372 in the New General Catalogue and is listed as Caldwell 92 in the Caldwell catalogue.
The Carina Nebula lies 8,500 light-years away. It is one of the largest diffuse nebulae known. It spans about 460 light-years in diameter.

A woman in Ohio has been saved by firefighters after making a frantic 911 emergency call to explain she was being attacked by a boa constrictor.
The Sheffield Lake resident was the owner of 10 other snakes, and had rescued the 1.7-metre-long (5.5 foot) boa just the day before the attack – but that act of kindness was not reciprocated when the snake suddenly turned on her.
It's not known what exactly prompted the attack to take place last Thursday, but the breathless (and frankly distressing) emergency call made by the woman highlights how terrifying the ordeal must have been.

You can see the knight on the horse there too.
All these telescopes can capture images in wavelengths the human eye can't see. They represent these with "false color". If you looked at these through a telescope with the naked eye, you wouldn't see much of this. They use false color to represent the wavelengths you can't see, and depending on which ones they enhance and which they don't, you get all sorts of images.

For example, look up the thousand yard model of the solar system. I'll just do this a little bit from memory, so it may not be exactly right.
Start out with a beach ball and plop that down. Take a peppercorn and pace out 26 yards and put that down. That's the Erf. Take a walnut and put that down 134 yards from the beach ball. That's Jupiter.
Now, take a grain of sand and put it 1000 yards from the beach ball. That's Pluto.

Now, how big is the Milky Way compared to that. Well, let the Milky Way's spiral pinwheel be the size of the continental US. Image that pinwheel superimposed on the top of a map of the US.
That's the diameter. Don't hold me too this, but I think the thickness of the main disk would be +/- 10 miles on that scale. That is the disk is 10 miles above sea level and 10 miles below.

How big is the solar system in that? Take a quarter and plop it on the ground somewhere in Tennessee.
Besides orbiting around the center (it takes about 250 million years for the sun to make one circuit) the sun also bobs up and down in the disk, perpendicular to the plane. That has it's own period, and I forget. But right now, we're on the upward leg of the z-axis.
So, our quarter in Tennessee would have to be up the air somewhere above.

I was looking at the vertical bobbing up and down of the sun. The error bars on these various measurements are big, but we are on the upswing, passed through the plane a while back and are ascending.
The period is ~60 million years (wide error bars on that), and right now we're maybe 20 parsecs (60 light years) above the plane. The peak will be about 100 parsecs or 300 light years before it turns and starts descending.
The uncertainties there are huge, though.

I think they're just high because their stuff is good. High demand, low supply, amazing quality, it's gonna be spendy.
I honestly can't tell the difference. As far as i can tell, Amish sound like South Africans and Mennonites sound like South Carolinians. Our maybe the other way around. I don't know. They're all in bonnets. And their meat and produce is worth handing over a piece of plastic and not listening to the number they say.

I read an article some years ago, someone arguing the concept of the "black hole," is very misleading, and there may not be a thing that is a black hole. The claim was the concept was mostly about mathematical equations that showed a lack of something measurable, when there should have been something.
So they really don't what it is, or what's causing it. Then that photo was released a few years ago, and nobody really knows what that is either.
I don't believe anything anymore. If scientists tell me there's a giant blintz in a faraway galaxy, and it farts to the Star Spangled Banner, I'll just shrug and say "yeah, whatever," the same as I do for most everything they say these days.

From what I've seen it's like food trucks. That burger is good, but you don't have to pay HVAC or cleaning bills, or repaint the parking lot, or pay water bills. Why is your food as or more expensive as a sit-down restaurant?
But the eggs will almost certainly be better quality. That said, they will have a more robust flavor and lots of people have trouble getting used to that after decades of eating factory eggs.
I make a point to give a bunch of ours away every couple of weeks to the older folks around us. They're very appreciative now that they're $5 / dozen.

People are scared, they are hurting, sometimes acutely. So much shit is going on. You have the patient, yes, but that's oftentimes the easiest person to deal with. Family, partners, observers, well wishers and ne'er do wells are all there. Sometimes law enforcement is there. Sometimes people speak English, sometimes the pretend to, which is worse, and then some don't even try. There's drama and overreacting and screaming and silence. It's not a fun place to be.
But. It's an important place to be. And people trust you to help them.
But some people are just assholes. And most of the time, the nastier they are, the less emergent their issue.
Be nice. Answer questions directly. Be polite. It's ok to be afraid. But don't be an ass.

Eggs should be 'as is' with bloom and maybe bits of down, bedding, and maybe an bit of poop (but not much if any). If they wash the eggs the chickens my have health issues because they were covered in poop... and washing reduces shelf life.

Admittedly, I was spoiled by California's abundant beef production, routinely getting steak at $5-6/pound. This year we've gone past $8 and it looks like $10 is about to be the new normal "sale" price.
Thanks to Aldi, I have a boneless lamb leg that will stand in for Sunday's steak. $7 a pound. Might be my new normal...

Our regional trauma and burn center is a shitshow. Gunshot wounds and cops and folks who may or may not try to run out even though they're bleeding from God knows how many holes.
Burns stink. And they are PAINFUL. And the risk for infection is super high. Did I mention pain? God, I' e seen people so toasted it made me want to cry for them.

The two big rumors on the Judge-Sheriff shooting thing are the judge was a pedo, having sex with the Sheriff's underage daughter, and the other is this "sex to get out of jail" thing supposedly done by a deputy.
The deputy would use the judge's chambers to make a deal with some poor woman to make the charges go away. There is a lawsuit alleging this going on right now, I saw.
So, was the judge in on it? Was the Sheriff? Or the was the judge not, maybe going to expose it, and the Sheriff makes up the pedo stuff.
Who the hells knows, but there was something really dirty going on. This kind of thing is very personal. There was some really personal hatred going on for the sheriff to just walk in and shoot him like that. Raping his daughter would be one.

The second story is not a rumor. It was the deputy bailiff who was doing some of it in the judges chambers and he has already been convicted and sentenced. The sheriff was recently deposed because of allegations he was aware of what was going on and did nothing about it. There was arguing going on before the judge was shot so it wasn't immediately.
