Meet The PetMorons

Lulu is my latest adoptee from my local county humane society. I have had her now for just over 2 years, and when I got her I was told she was 13 years old, which was information they had from the family that surrendered her. Her name is Lulu, but she really is a Pomzilla, because at 13 lbs, she's twice the size of a standard Pomeranian. She's not fat, she's just big. And has a crazy thick coat that I have to have groomed each month. I know little about her former life, which is a challenge when you get an older dog. After all, they have their old habits and routines. I find myself adjusting to her rather than the other way around. But that's the way with the elderly, right? I'm thankful she's in great health, other than being deaf. Can you tell she owns me? I don't know how long she will be with me, but I believe every pet deserves a loving and as comfortable life as possible, and I take that task to heart, no matter how hard it is. It's always hard.
And I thank the Pet Thread to give a voice to the horde who have a place to celebrate/love/mourn their beloved pets.

Our little cat Spooky is blind and physically challenged but she still knows how to find a sunbeam.

What a wonderful photo and observation. It is obvious that you really care for her. Spooky doesn't look totally black in the photo.

We once had a very skittish feral cat, "Spooky Mama" who had black guard hair over a gray undercoat. She looked way spookier than most black cats.

We're learning more about our little blind kitten.

This is Stella, our 2 year old Good Girl Bernedoodle. Mrs Refugee and I are her guardians. Hard to tell from the picture, but she is near her due date. She went back to the breeder, and is about to have her first litter. The house is too quiet already!

I always enjoy the Pet Thread.
These are the newest members of our family, Massimo and Binx. After having 2 pairs of Burmese cats in the past, my daughter knew I always wanted a couple more. There don't seem to be any breeders in and around our Montana home. Daughter lives in Los Angeles, and acquired 2 kittens over the summer as a surprise. They are delightful; still in the velociraptor phase but very intelligent, sweet, and loving.
My screen handle is jix on Ace of Spades HQ.

They are charming and look a little exotic. "Velociraptor stage" . . . Heh.

10 So the two 14 week old kittens are here with us for a few hours. We have been bringing them over every day for a week to get acclimated to the house.

Margo is still spending most of her time under the couch.
But her brother, Frog is exploring everything from top to bottom.

We will take them back to where they were born in a bit, spend some time with them tomorrow, and when we return from the wedding on the following Monday, we will make the permanent move here.

11 Awesome pets! The burmese kittens are gorgeous! But I have a special place in my heart for dogs who drool, and Lilah is definitely a champion!!

My pup is in a funk because Dad is sick and the normal routine is messed up. Abner does not care for change.

14 Yes, the Burmese cats are breathtaking! I grew up with cats--particularly the Siamese that raised me--but developed an allergy to cats in later life so no more cats. Sigh.

No problem because I am now firmly a dog person. Lulu has that same intelligent look that our rescue, Luna, has. Thanks, Liz in Maryland, for taking her on when you know of the parting that's coming.

Little Fitz is doing great adjusting to our home. Having him mama Dot next to him is a big reassurance. Come to think of it, after three years of being away, Dot has settled back in as though she was never gone.

Repeat from last night's ONT, which had that impressive video of a dog herding sheep--

Our Daisy the Belgian Malinois has run off into the pasture twice in two days and "herded" cattle. She has pretty good instincts, but it's dangerous right now because we've got newborn calves and protective mamas, as well as some very pregnant cows.

Thought we'd got her to not do that, but, well, instinct is strong.

26 So I said that my dog, Luna, has an intelligent look and she IS normally pretty smart. BUT today the idiot disappeared into the back yard for several hours in the Texas heat--and then showed up covered with tiny burrs. (I've since learned that they are from hedge parsley AKA "tall sock destroyer.")

I don't know how we'll ever get all of them out of her long fur, but she seems content to stay in the house now so I think it wasn't a very pleasant experience for her. I hope so any wayl

29 Just got back from a visit with DaughterH as we slowly introduce my Conor to her two (mother and daughter) rescue pups. Eventually, we plan to let them all meet in a common fenced area, but for now just multiple sessions of sighting and sniffing through a pretty sturdy fence.
The rescue pups each outweigh Conor by at least 2 to 1 and are ten years younger than he is, so caution is in order. But it is fun to watch the initial somewhat crazy excitement as they first see each other again, which then winds down as they realize there's just another dog on the other side of the fence.

30 With Daisy sometimes trying to herd the cattle, or chasing off after a deer (been a while), I realized that when she's outside, especially this season, she always ought to have on her orange vest, less some hunter mistake her for a coyote.

Breakthrough this morning. Opened the door to let young Daisy out into the fenced area, and elder Ony Cat went outside with her and they left each other alone. First time they've shard the yard. Glad to see it. Need to have our furry friends get along, despite severe age and species differences.

Yes, the Burmese kittens are lovely. I thought at first glance they were non-purebred Siamese. They can often be darker than the classic cream color, especially when they are mixed. But now I see they are much much darker, and much more attractive than today's "new" (read: whip-thin and with long heads) Siamese.

My two Killer Kittenz From Outer Space are doing well. Stirling leaped up to bump heads when he heard me wake from my nap just now. Dagny, who is currently curled in my desk chair atop my car-washing jeans, was actually sociable and affectionate this morning, joining me on the bathroom counter as I brushed my teeth and accepting her beloved belly rubs. She loves to have you scratch lightly against the grain of her fur there.

33 My Dog Rusty was a tennis ball freak. He had at least half a dozen in the back yard at any given time, until one day they were all gone. A new next door neighbor had moved in and she had retriever as well. We took a fence board out so they could interact. Turns out Rusty had nosed all his tennis balls into the neighbors yard and was expecting a throw back. He was a great dog, just not that bright.

34 I also have a feral tortoiseshell shorthair who ranges around my apartment block. At night, especially, she parks herself well out of petting range but within sight of my door. Miss Linda spots her and insists I pour some of my cats' dry chow ($$ stuff) into a little bowl for her.

This morning on my way to an errand I spotted a shorthair black feral who was limping as if one leg was hurt. He or she took one look at me, though I was not trying to get close, and dived into a hole in the concrete pad under the front step of the nearest apartment -- like a groundhog into his hole.

Can't save, or even help, 'em all.

45 It was just about this time 10 years ago (Facebook Memory photos always remind me) that I brought home a kitten from the Vet the same day I brought my sweet Bella for the last time. Wife was at work, I brought the tiny Siamese (4-weeks old, way too young) home and got a call from the Vet. My little Siamese kitty had a brother whose adoption had fallen through, would I like the other kitten? Wife comes home, I show her the kitten, and her face melts, so I know I'm good there. I wait a beat and tell her about the little bro left behind, and she gives me the thumbs up. The rest is history. These little guys are the best. (Credit where credit is due, they came into the house where we had a one-year old male cat, who was at first skeptical, but has basically parented them ever since)

49 Scout the debbil kitteh only drinks from a red solo cup in the bathroom sink, or a steel dish in our big kitchen sink. We used to have a bubbler, but she would not use it. Our two departed cats loved it, though.
