You've made me realize that I've heard very little this fall semester about Jewish students getting harassed on campus. I doubt that's because the pro Gaza students grew some empathy over the summer. I suspect there's either an embargo from the media, or a chilling effect for the Jewish students where they are afraid to report incidents, knowing their university and the media are not on their side.

No. It sounds like an incredibly successful operation by Israel against Hezbollah. Think about it. How did they get hundreds of pagers onto Hez leaders? They must have placed or turned some top electronic security people close to leadership. They developed pagers that appeared to be super secure, encrypted, whiz-bang devices. "Blockading" Japan (was already in effect) was a "solution" that guaranteed massive excess deaths in Japan, and virtually guaranteed massive excess deaths in several Japanese-occupied areas. It would have guaranteed the death, simply through continued deterioration or execution, of most Allied POWs in Japanese hands.
This scenario also ignores "war weariness" in the US, which was real.
Eventually it might have "worked". So you have 10 to 20 times the excess deaths you ended up having via a "quick end" to the war, which was in itself a close-run thing. And it was never an "A-bomb, or invasion" choice. Op Olympic called for use of 9 A-bombs, if available, 3 for each invasion area on Kyushu.
It's kind of like, it seems, almost all discussions of any significant public policy issue any more: not really a discussion, because one side's premises are 100% false, and on top they employ no logic or common sense. Idiotic conclusion, followed by reverse engineering to "support" it.

Germany had already surrendered. The Japanese were willing to employ cannibalism, their own dead and American POWs, to survive. The American people wanted the war finished NOW! Not to mention that the Soviets were building up vast forces and the logistical bases to support them that could overrun not only Korea, but the Kuriles and Hokkaido, too. We used the nukes, first, and the Japanese folded. The right decision was to invade if the Japanese held out after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki strikes.

If the bomb's hadn't convinced the leadership to give it up, or worse, didn't work as advertised, then it would have been blockade time.
Remember war in Europe was done and we were still producing ships and planes at a prodigious rate. The only thing would be keeping enthusiasm up during a protracted stalemate.

They know they can't beat Hezbollah and occupy Lebanon, they've done it several times and had to pull out due to lack of strength and Western pressure.
They can live with a status quo there but a more hands on war in the North will cause problems while they work on Gaza.
