14-Unforgettable911Attacks (1).jpg

From CBS News:
Smoke pours from the twin towers of the World Trade Center after they were hit by two hijacked airliners in a terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, in New York. Nearly 3,000 people were killed after two hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center; one hit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and one crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Have you viewed the photos in the previous link? This should infuriate you.

September 11, 2001 attack repercussions continue to this day. NYT: Plea Deal for KSM and Other 9/11 Defendants May Return

Lloyd Austin giveth, Lloyd Austin taketh away, Lloyd Austin ... forced to giveth back? On the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the New York Times offers some bad news on the lawfare front against the mass murderers that plotted and funded the worst terror attack on the US.

Five weeks ago, Austin's commanding officer in charge of military courts got relieved after approving a plea deal with the trio, including mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. Austin then ordered the plea deals revoked, sending the cases back to the Guantanamo Bay courts created in a series of legal spasms during the Bush administration to deal with these defendants. Some wondered at the time whether Austin had the authority to undo a deal that the court had already accepted.

As it turns out, the court wonders that, too:

KSM should have never been brought into custody. (Resisting arrest can have tragic endings.) But since he was. The only plea deal should have been his choice of firing squad or hanging. That this barbarian is still alive is morally unacceptable.

5 Red and near-infrared (NIR) radiation have a profound effect on human physiology, notably acting as a mitochondrial stimulant, increasing ATP production.

Amongst all the waves in sunlight, near-infrared radiation (NIR-A) with a spectrum of 750-1500 nanometres has the deepest penetration into tissues, reaching up to 23 centimeters deep.

Furthermore, NIR light increases the production of melatonin in mitochondria, which thus increases autophagy,

Thank you for the remembrance, MisHum.

Watched the towers come down today. Again.

Read the transcript of Todd Beamer's conversation.

In an age before cell phones, amazingly, the passengers of Flight 93 were able to find out about the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon, and knew they were part of it all.

And became heroes, able to thwart the terrorists.

"Let's roll"

I've never seen the theatrical release Flight 93. I have several times watched the re-enactment/docudrama The Flight that Fought Back.

Late night greetings from the middle of the country.

This great country, which can be made greater again.

Not gonna read 600+ comments right now. Maybe later.

I've mentioned this every year, but here it is again.

We had no TV at home, and knew nothing about what was going on until Milady and I drove into town. I know just where we were on our commute when I turned on the radio.

The first we heard was some substitute for Limbaugh saying he was stuck in Florida, and was all right. Curious.

Next a news guy started talking about closing refineries in the southwest. WTF?

Then a news guy gave that rarest of things, a succinct re-cap for folks just tuning in: "The World Trade Centers are gone." Just like that.

I didn't know how, didn't know about the planes, or anything else yet, I would pick that up as we turned around and drove back home. I just knew one thing: the bastards said they would do it, and they did. Damn them.

Sat down with our three mostly-grown kids at home and told them what we knew. I told them, this is your generation's Pearl Harbor. Everything changes after this.

37 (2 of 2 - used to be able to leave longer comments)

Fifteen years later, that seems to have been right, even if the after-effects of the ongoing, often pitifully-fought war on Islam differ from the all-out war on Japan and Germany.

We all drove to town and opened our then-sorta-closed little cafe for the day - had a few friends drift in - and watched numbly as the TV played out the fall of the towers over and over, and got the details on the Pentagon and Flight 93.

There's one other thing I thought, as the day wore on: That's it? That's all you got? You pitiful, cowardly punks!
Maybe a weird kind of feeling, but as big a dent as they put in the country, it was only a dent. God bless America.

"The World Trade Centers are gone." Yeah, I'm not likely to forget that in a hundred lifetimes.

40 The most hilarious thing today was Biden putting on a Trump hat and smiling for the cameras, and standing in a bunch of kids wearing Trump t-shirts and smiling.

Trump accurately noted that Biden hates Harris.

Nothing would make Senile Joe happier than seeing Kammie crushed in a landslide. Revenge is sweet.

I can't imagine how many obscenities were uttered at the DNC and at Harris headquarters when the picture of Biden wearing the Trump hat started showing up online.

In the right context, I have no problem with this. After all, many SF types refer to the coup de gras of a double-tap into the skulls, as "servicing" the tango of the moment.

Thus, a "Day of Service" would be a fitting memorial, and an honorable expenditure of ammo in the doing.

85 >>Hell, I tell people I'm a lawyer.

Dear Ann Landers -

I have a problem. I'm meeting my fiancees family this week and I don't know how to tell the about my family.

My sister is a crack whore and doing 20 years for armed robbery to support her habit.

My younger brother runs a child trafficking ring and on the run from the law.

My older brother is a lawyer.

My question is how do I tell them about my older brother and the shame he has brought our family?

Signed -

Amongst all the waves in sunlight, near-infrared radiation (NIR-A) with a spectrum of 750-1500 nanometres has the deepest penetration into tissues, reaching up to 23 centimeters deep.

Furthermore, NIR light increases the production of melatonin in mitochondria, which thus increases autophagy,

137 One of the strangest things in the weeks to follow was the total lack of air traffic. This was the NY DMA, air is full of planes all the time.

I remember once looking up, and seeing a tiny glint of a plane very high, on patrol.

This was the time of the anthrax scare, too. That was appalling. We didn't know if there was going to be a Spring, or even a "next year" at that time. We didn't know what was going to hit next. (Something to remember when we remember the early days of the covid op.)

I was renting the upstairs apartment in a house. The landlady said I could garden in the small front yard. I deliberately planted spring bulbs. I stabbed the soil with my trowel, telling OBL "you will not defeat me, you b@stard! You will not!" with each bulb.

The flowers were glorious that next spring.

139 I remember 9/11 like most of us who lived through it. We were at Ft. Hood. I saw the first plane hit on the news before they knew about the second and then it was just that feeling of lead in your heart and soul. My Daddy was at the pentagon, and I was scared for that, I couldn’t reach him. My ex husband deployed not very long after.

I went to the memorial before it was finished, it was so hard. It’s still hard. For a short moment, we were united and we remembered who we were. It shouldn’t take something that horrific to make us remember who we are. Never forget is right, but the entire left seems to have done just that.

Went back to my office and seemed like a few minutes late, the Pentagon was hit. Anyway, I started gathering my stuff and an alarm sounded and we all evacuated. I went home. The subway wasn't shut down. Crowded, quiet, and tense on the Metro. Didn't stop at Pentagon or Pentagon City stations. Got home, got a beer, and sat on the balcony. Of all the horrors of that day, what stood out was the Quiet. Babylon DC is never quiet but on 9/11 it was. No air traffic.

I was cutting all of the tags off of my kids' luggage getting ready for a big family trip and left my really nice Swiss Army knife in my pocket.

Wasn't about to give it to the TSA personnel. Went back and hid it behind the couch cushions where the people sit waiting for arrivals.

It was still there a week later! A small victory, but savored nevertheless.

Reality cable at the beginning of this century featured a medical show with cameras in the OR. I remember one guy opened up and the surgeon accidentally cutting the urinary tract and urine was spraying all over the place. 'Not to worry', he says, 'it's sterile'.

Reading over the resume of a new doc before visiting, I was very surprised to find that he had undergrad EE degree from Rice. Oddly, perhaps, I was favorably impressed.

When I first met him, the first thing that I said was, 'You're a EE!'. He laughed and said, 'It was harder than Med School'. He is a hard-core audiophile, and we have interesting non-medical chat.

172 The morning of 911 for me.

I was still asleep, having come home from a mid-shift in the ER around 1 AM. and my wife and kids had left early for daycare and work.

Then the phone rang. It brought me ever so slightly awake but I was not going to get up and answer it as the phone was down the hall in the kitchen and I thought to just let the answering machine get it.....what I heard next after the BEEP was an elderly family friend "Frank" who was a WWII vet and fought in Italy with Clark's 3rd Army, was wounded, captured, finally rescued and sent home.

He was very agitated and in a high pitched voice..."RICHARD...RICHARD" "Get your wife and your kids and get DOWN IN YOUR BASEMENT!!!"

"THEY'RE BOMBING EVERYTHING!!!"...BEEP....

And that is how 911 started for me. I woke up completely confused then walked down to the kitchen...replayed his message and then turned on my TV.

5 mins later my Dad called from LAX "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??" I just brought your mom down for her plane flight back to Maine and now they are dumping her out on the tarmac but I can't meet her??? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON RICHARD???"

Dad I don't know, something about planes flying into some buildings.

177 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice non-spoilery review

Terrible.

So the slightly longer take is that I didn't like it but I didn't actively hate it, either. It did have redeeming qualities but they were generally few. I had low expectations going in. Then I saw it was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. After that my expectations hit rock bottom. So the good news it's completely different from the original movie. The bad news is not in a good way. Gough and Millar are mostly known for teen dramas like Smallville. Yep.

I didn't laugh, maybe just kinda chuckled a little. There's a running gag involving Willem Defoe's secretary that's actually amusing. The explanation for what happened to Jeffrey Jones' character was very creative. Beetlejuice is now canonically Spanish.

Winona Ryder is up there in years but she looks pretty good for her age. Giving her the same haircut as she had in the original was a bad idea. Jenna Ortega is just YOWZA! The things I'd do to her. I want her to abort my unborn child. Gaw'DAYUM!

Going in with low expectations and the movie still disappoints. Worth the ten bucks? Uh...not really. Wait until it hits Netflix.

Our chemo patients that were in for early chemo kept dragging their iv poles out to the lobby to watch on the big tv. We finally got maintenance to bring the big TV into the chemo room. The office was quiet as night. My husband worked for the VA and was on lockdown. Our offices in Columbus were locked down because they were not letting anyone in or out of the city. My kids schools called me to tell parents they were sending kids home and the busses were rolling. But our kids had no parents that could get to them. It was terrifying for so many people on so many levels.

I had just stepped out of the shower when the first report of a plane flying into the World Trade Center Tower 1 came across my radio. I went to the living room, turned on the TV and watched for a few minutes before returning to the bathroom to grab my toothbrush and finish getting ready for work. I returned to the TV, toothbrush in mouth and towel in hand just in time to see the second plane hit WTC Tower 2. I knew at that moment this was deliberate and that it wasn't over yet. I called into work, told them to turn on the TV to see why I'd be a little late coming in, and slowly finished getting ready. As I drove in, listening to the horror unfolding in NY, I watched a plane on approach to Love Field, after the ground stop had been ordered. I wondered if this plane, too, was about to become another deadly missile.

Good evening, patriots. RIP to those who were murdered on September 11.

I'm so mad at myself, I always ALWAYS do something observant and wear red, white & blue on this day, but I was so damn wrapped up in my work I actually left the house today forgetting what day it was. Everyone in the office including me in all that tasteful taupe and greige and black. I could have taught them all a lesson by dressing patriotically.

Well, I'm doing it tomorrow to make up for it, and I'm going to dress patriotically more often. They should all be ashamed of themselves for not even wearing a flag pin or something as far as I'm concerned.

235 3/3

I composed this on the first anniversary of 9-11, with the intention of creating a video to accompany it. I have never really gone past the initial stages for the video, as I still react so viscerally to the images—my somber mood returns to white-hot rage at what this 7th century cult of death wrought that day. So this song remains as tribute to all who lost their lives on that horrific day, and especially for those who ran towards the catastrophe and showed how selfless sacrifice will always ring eternally over death's empty sting.

Coda: And in less than half a generation, the unity and clear focus that this day brought to our nation has completely dissipated. And the barbarians are inside the gate.

238 On a Facebook military brats page, last year there was a discussion about funny and interesting stories on having pets overseas.

One guy recalled that his Army family in Korea went out to a restaurant and introduced the waiter to their pet cat. They asked the waiter to get the cat a snack. The waiter took the cat away and brought it back on a plate, cooked!

Something was lost in translation.

Well, that story got some strong reactions!

Went home that afternoon & watched the news. Endless replays of the planes hitting both towers. Cried that night. Wondered WTH was gonna happen next?

275 Funny thing about the WTC attacks. Camel humpers were real big on Dates and Symbolisms.

So, the attack was timed to eradicate (IIRC), one of their dates of shame, i.e; an anniversary of some battle they'd lost or diplomatic embarrassment, etc.

Symbolism was taking out the "HEART OF BUSINESS" in America. They really thought they'd paralyze commerce all across the USA. What they DID take out, was mostly "back office" functions and millions of printouts of what was thoroughly backed up on drives and servers from sea to shining sea.

MEMO to Trump. D.C. does NOT need an "Iron Dome" defense system as a first order of business.

The dozens and dozens of refineries and chemical plants lining the San Jacincto River (the Port of Houston, btw), are what DO need, every possible defense against attack from above.

Lose any, several or most of those, and the WTC's losses would look like a child's spilled Pixy Stix.

I would think iinvasion , inflation or crime endorsing Kamala simply because Kamala endorses JOY and identity politics. I would think it equally a mistake if she endorsed Trump. Swift seems to have some interest in helping the crews that run . her shows why doesn't she stick with that. I understand actors have political opinions but I don't think the conservative actors are making a big deal about of making public pronouncements about saying they'll vote for Trump.

317 And my guess is having seen "Reagan" that Randy (?) Quaid probably did the movie not only because he liked and admired Reagan, but becuse there are certain similiraities between Trump and Reagan, but I stayed till the end of the movie and watched the credits. There was no picture of. Quaid saying "Vote for Trump, folks" but I don't think you'd make a movie admiring Reagan if you were voting for Kamala who resembles Reagan-as far as I can tell-in no way, whatsoever.

I always stay to watch the credits if I really liked the movie. I though it was excellent - kind of long movie or maybe I was tired- but great performances and I learned stuff about Teagan which I never knew because my mother was an old style liberal, didn't vote for him and didn't like him.
and she influenced my politics.

322 The closing credits showing the funeral procession brought back strong memories for me. My friend and I waited in line for about six hours to file past his casket. It was full dark by the time we left and there was still a line of cars stretching a half mile down the 23 to the off ramp. The way everything in town was brought to a respectful standstill for that week was a heck of a thing to live through. I'll never forget it..

Posted by: Joe Kidd at September 12, 2024 02:06 AM (IXbHc)

323 And I felt a certain satisfaction. In going to and enjoying a movie leftist critics loathed. There were only three people in the showing - me, my son and my running mate. I don't know if that's because it was an odd time-4:45 showing or that I live near liberal central NJ

332 Just read an article about searching for the identity of "The Falling Man", who was in the iconic photo of a man jumping to his death. It briefly ran world wide at first and then was quickly censored.

Reading that made me want to ask Kamala to read it and then ask her...What did you say about not using the term "Islamic terrorism", you stupid stupid grifting political hack?

347 Being retired means whatever day it is or will be is just another day to enjoy retirement. The rest of you get to work until you reach your scheduled time off, if any.

And for those who are contemplating or reaching retirement a cautionary word--old age isn't what kills many retirees, it's the honeydo list that's the culprit.
