The Longest-Running Play in DC: Failure Theater

Another grim staging of the GOPe favorite.

The Democrats can always count on ten Republicans -- and always the same ten -- to vote the Democrat way on any tough vote.

Let's see who tonight's turncoats are.

Speaker Mike Johnson's funding bill is now facing opposition from half a dozen Republican colleagues as the window of opportunity to avert a government shutdown is closing.

Johnson's continuing resolution and attached SAVE Act, an election integrity bill that requires proof of citizenship for voter registration, is poised for a vote Wednesday and is now facing pushback from GOP lawmakers who have fiscal and national security concerns. As of this writing, six Republicans are confirmed no-votes and several others are on the fence, which gives very little wiggle room for Johnson's CR to pass the House.

Defense hawks like Republican Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana and House Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers are confirmed no-votes, citing national security.

Absolute scumbags, liberals and catspaws of the CIA.

Others are against the CR in general. But what is the alternative? It's too late for Congress to do its job and go back to regular appropriations.

This seems like grandstanding and preening:

Due to fiscal concerns, Republican Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Cory Mills of Florida and Matt Rosendale of Montana all intend to vote against the funding bill.

"A vote for a continuing resolution is a vote to keep adding $1 trillion to our debt every 100 days," Burchett told the Daily Caller News Foundation. "That's not the way Congress is supposed to operate."

Agreed but.... Obviously you cannot actually go through the proper procedures in time to fund the government. By withholding your vote, you're forcing Mike Johnson to drop the SAVE Act provision to get Democrats to cross over to vote for it.

Are these people simply stupid? Are they incapable of distinguishing between real fights happening right now vs. more philosophical, big-picture fights happening all the time? Are they incapable of distinguishing between Something Good (returning to regular order) and Something Absolutely Vital (requiring voter ID)?

Due to the GOP's slim House majority, the conference can only afford to lose four votes, assuming that every member is in attendance.

"I refuse to be a thespian in the Speaker's failure theater," Massie said in a post on X. "The 6 month continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached is an insult to Americans' intelligence. The CR doesn't cut spending, and the shiny object attached to it will be dropped like a hot potato before passage."

Some might say that you're the star of this most recent Failure Theater production, Massie, as you so often are, claiming your Princibuhls force you to vote the Democrats' way time and time again.

I know a guy named David French who says that too, Massie. You should get in touch. You seem very sympatico.

Other Republicans like Reps. Paul Gosar of Arizona, Eric Burlison of Montana and Eli Crane of Arizona are hesitant about voting for the CR, according to Punchbowl.

Some vulnerable Republicans had reservations about attaching the SAVE Act to the funding bill, arguing that the possibility of a shutdown could impede their chances of reelection. The speaker reassured these Republicans during a private call last week that he wouldn't go into this spending fight if he thought it would fall through.

Johnson told GOP lawmakers during the call that his strategy will force Democratic leadership to answer for why they oppose election integrity measures, a source with direct knowledge of the call told the DCNF.

I'm just so, so tired. After this election, I think I'm done. They can all go fuck themselves.

41 The CR won’t pass with the SAVE act. It’s another ridiculous maneuver to put Democrats on record as voting against proving you’re a US Citizen to vote. If Johnson had a set of balls, he would have cut the budget of every agency that’s been screwing over the American taxpayer. He’s fully funding the effort to give illegal aliens our tax money while waving the Save Act as a diversion.

Oh and let this sink in. The last deal was negotiated so there would be a full 1% cut across the board if nothing was done by March 30th. Guess what date Johnson put in the CR? March 28th, so that date will never be hit.

Johnson is Mitch McConnell,, only shorter.

Posted by: Marcus T at September 10, 2024 02:05 PM (QfzLT)

They don't define victory the same way you do.

Roughly 100% of elected officials are in place to advance their personal situation... be it with money, power, or pussy. Sometimes they'll do something that's good for the country if it also helps them - or at least doesn't hurt.

Even if they were good, decent people before they arrived, the first thing DC does is corrupt.

It's distraction to us (like the DHS patsies were in the Trump assassination attempt) to avoid us knowing they want 6 months for a CR, so 6 months from now, they can kick the bucket again and have another whole year of a crazy, unaffordable budget funding leftwing priorities.

Focus on the main goal - getting elected and then pulling every leftwing priority out of the budget (b/c normally those are the corruption payments and the ones destroying our country)...

124 Here's a radical idea: Why don't Republicans actually be FOR something. Goodness knows Democrats have an agenda.

Trump has an agenda and it's made him the most effective Republican on the national level since Reagan. I say again, the most effective Republican in 40 years simply because he has THINGS he wants to do.

Wouldn't you know it: America responds to plans, goals, ideas, and aspirations!

Meanwhile the GOPe is just the worst kind of failures.

Only twice in 40 years the congressional-level GOP had an agenda: 1994 and 2010. No surprise both of those elections were blowouts for them.

160 As I've mentioned before, one term Congressman Fred Grandy said everything done in DC is horse-trading. Everything. You can never think that your representative voted for or against a bill on its face -- they are doing it in exchange for something else. That's why Grandy left after one term. He went on to co-host a morning radio show in DC where he picked apart what these tools did in Congress for his audience.
Posted by: Lizzy
-----
FWIW, Grandy spent four terms in Congress and did not run again. He instead went against incumbent GOP governor Terry Bransted in the Iowa GOP primary and lost.

The obvious answer is 7x7 + 2x7 = 63. But because the question is poorly phrased, it feels like a trick. What if one man has seven wives and the other six men have none? Then it's only 15. OR what if the men and wives aren't married to each other? By the phrasing here, that means there are 14 adults that each have seven kids.

There was of course the historic first of his candidacy which, added to the slogan, was very effective. Kamala's 'Joy' and 'vibes' in its own way is also effective because it appeals to emotion rather than substance, of which she has none.

Long term. On both.

Or go the quick and dirty route and revolt. There will still be sacrifices and consequences however. But maybe not as long term.

Most countries change their government's course with the latter of those two, for reasons. The left uses it to great effect and success. There's a lesson there.

I don't pretend to suggest either as the actual course of action the country and the public take will be something else entirely, I'm sure.

266 I just want to comment on Kamala and Willie Brown.

It reminds me of the 1992 Louisiana governors election between Buddy Romer, David Duke, and Edwin Edwards. Romer the R, Edwards the D, and Duke the KKK. Romer lost the open primary, leaving Edwards and Duke in the runoff. Edwards had his mistress campaigning for him, as well as his wife.

He also had bumper stickers saying "Vote for the crook, it's important!" him being the crook... of course he won, since not even a Democrat could lose to the Klan.

About a year after he left office, he was in jail on federal corruption charges. We all knew he was a crook. But what choice do you have against the actual KKK?

In any event: kamala is the mistress running for office. And thankfully, we don't have to vote for her against the Klan.

We are going over the financial falls--Kamala will get us there much sooner but the math is baked into the cake at this point. Austerity is what is going to occur when the federal gubmint cannot borrow anymore and the option is to run the printing presses to inflate the debt away (while also destroying the value of gubmint benefits) or to formal default.

The US was in that place after the Revolutionary War. Like it or not, there is a reason that the new Constitutional Convention and the document it produced was called the Miracle at Philadelphia.

It happened to my client. But degenerate hobos from the asshole of the world can do whatever they want, of course.

Most intellectuals in democracies are generally despised and broke for most of their life because their thoughts upset those in charge of a particular society. Intellectuals, like artists, that praise their worthy well off patrons get paid.

This is why DeTocqueville thought that on the balance, constitutional monarchies tended to produce better idiosyncratic thinkers. Course, his leaving of France for the relatively uncivilized US due to political reasons might also have colored his thinking.

Guess how much "wildlife" you will find roaming around Haiti? Or forestation?

The stark difference between Haiti and DR is all the evidence you need to understand the difference in culture and governance.

Casually defending the poaching of protected wildlife for consumption in order to avoid dealing with an uncomfortable reality is just sad.
