Study: The New York Times Stoked Fear Over Covid
Plus: GAINZZZ

A perpetually-frightened population is easier to control.

A 2018 Gallup poll found that 62 percent of Americans believe the media is biased. Did such bias affect coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic? I run a research team in the department of epidemiology at the University of California--San Francisco. In our report, the first to analyze a newspaper systematically, we found significant evidence of bias in the New York Times, considered by some to be the newspaper of record, on pandemic coverage--skewed toward overstating the threat posed by the virus.

Our study examined all corrections issued by the New York Times to articles relating to the Covid-19 pandemic. Between 2020 and 2024, the newspaper issued 576 corrections for 486 articles. Naturally, in times of crisis, facing uncertain and evolving information, reporters will get facts wrong. Sometimes they may, for instance, over- or underreport the number of children who have died or misstate the effectiveness of interventions like lockdowns. If news organizations are unbiased, one would expect such errors to occur with relatively equal frequency.

That's not what we found. Instead, the paper's errors tended to exaggerate the harm of the virus (or the effectiveness of interventions). Corrections were made for such errors nearly twice as frequently as for errors that downplayed harms. Fifty-five percent of errors overstated the harm of the virus, while only 24 percent understated (the rest were equivocal). In other words, when the New York Times got things wrong, it tended to do so in a way that falsely stoked fear and encouraged harmful social restrictions.

In October 2021, a particularly notable correction read as follows--inviting questions as to how such a remarkable mistake could make it into print at all:

An article on Thursday . . . misstated the number of Covid hospitalizations in U.S. children. It is more than 63,000 from August 2020 to October 2021, not 900,000 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Glad they could straighten that out.

Not all reporters were equally culpable; some required more corrections than others. One in particular, Apoorva Mandavilli, was responsible for 7 percent of all corrections. When the "science and global health reporter" erred, she tended to exaggerate the risk of the virus:

This same reporter is known for inserting her feelings into her content. In 2021, she tweeted the following: "Someday we will stop talking about the lab leak theory and maybe even admit its racist roots. But alas, that day is not yet here." To my knowledge, the New York Times has not reassigned any reporter on the Covid-19 beat for getting things wrong--even when those errors appear to be byproducts of the author's underlying prejudice.

...

It should concern all of us that legacy media displayed such a strong bias during an unprecedented pandemic. Perhaps our research can prompt an internal audit at the Times to assess the paper's role in intensifying fear and legitimizing harmful social policies.

LOL. I wouldn't hold your breath, dude. Not a single "media" organization has done any kind of review for their gross, election-interference errors on the Steele Dossier, "Russia collusion, Hunter Biden's laptop, or covid.

Because they didn't make "mistakes" -- they told exactly the lies they meant to tell.

Meanwhile, the Regime is hiding information from parents about just how badly children are doing after the Fauci-demanded school lockdowns.

A new study shows that many parents are unaware of their children's academic performance following COVID-19 due to states' failure to provide accessible school data. The lack of transparency hinders parents' ability to evaluate schools and hold them accountable.

Key Details:

A study by Arizona State University found that 35 states received a grade of "C" or lower for transparency in school performance data.

13 states, including Maine, New Mexico, and North Dakota, received an "F" for providing little to no accessible information.

Only 7 states received an "A" for making school performance data easily available to the public.

...

The fallout from COVID-19 extended far beyond school closures, exacerbating existing challenges such as teacher shortages, unequal access to technology, and growing achievement gaps. Student absenteeism soared, graduation rates fluctuated, and proficiency among English learners declined significantly. Yet, despite these concerns, states have largely failed to provide parents with the information needed to gauge their child's educational standing or the effectiveness of their local schools.

Morgan Polikoff, an education professor at USC Rossier and lead researcher for the CRPE study, emphasized the problem, stating, "We've been doing testing and accountability for like two decades, and the fact that you still have so much data that's just missing...is problematic."

Anyone have any GAINZZZ?

I have at least started keto again. There's a simple key to keto: You have to buy and make almost all of your own food. If you order out, like I've been doing since covid, you're almost certainly going to order something carbohydrate-filled. Yes, you can order lower-carb stuff, but if you're ordering from Chick-Fil-A, there's going to be a strong temptation to order the regular chicken sandwich instead of the low-carb non-breaded grilled chicken. (In either case, you wouldn't eat the bread.)

It's not huge pain in the ass making most of your own food, especially because you can make three or four meals of something in one cooking sesh. But it does take some time.

Anyway, I've been doing that again. I refroze my ice cream maker bowl to make some keto coffee chocolate chip ice cream. I'm going to make that tomorrow.

And your GAINZZZZ...? Or any upcoming PLANZZZ or PROJEXXX?

I'm at 171. I had been down to 165.

This isn't fat weight. Well, not all fat weight. I eat so much these days, all those eggs and chicken. There is definite muscle gain, but my midsection is a bit softer again, softer than when I switched from weight loss to weight gain.

I have 9 weeks until our cruise without kids. I've decided that the final 3 weeks will be weight loss. Until then, I'm eating all the eggs and lifting all the weights.

We have friends who just got their 6th grader into the charter school our oldest two attend.

He reads at a 3rd grade level because his schools never did anything to help him catch up from the covid losses. Of note, the simplest thing they should have done was REFUSE TO PASS HIM OUT OF 3rd GRADE IF HE CAN'T READ. Apparently no one gets "held back" anymore. (They don't even call it that anymore. It's now "retention" because the teaching profession is full of people who think words are magic!)

Our (homeschooled) 3rd grader reads at a 6th grade level. None of our children suffered any "Covid Losses".

Homeschool if you can. Find a great charter if available. NEVER send your children to public schools, even if you have to eat beans and rice until they are grown.

They even got police reports on this. They steal the ducks out of Snyder Park all the time. There are no ducks anymore; there are geese, but no ducks. That’s a proven fact. The police already went to the guy’s house, where they had swans and all the ducks hanging up in their kitchen. They didn’t do anything but give a $150 fine.”

32 Whether COVID was leaked accidentally or intentionally, there is no question there was a conspiracy in how the western media covered it - as in Fauci and other told the press how to cover the disease. And they told them to report things they KNEW were untrue.

For example, after Fauci reversed himself and demanded everyone mask he sent an email to a friend saying masks made no difference. This isn't an error - this is a lie.

Or consider how the clot shot was rushed through review and mandated based on the fact it stopped the spread of COVID. Well...it doesn't. And the FNM claims no that no one said it stopped the spread. Even though that was the whole rational behind mandates.

All the rowers were occupied, so I jumped on a treadmill. I haven't done it for a while, so I put the incline to 2 and walked for three minutes at 3.5 mph. Then I pushed it to 5.8 mph and ran for about 1.1 miles. Then I slowed back to walking for another 3 minutes. Even though I haven't run for a long while, I was never out of breath and felt like I could easily maintain a conversation.

Then I hopped on the stairs and did 24 minutes at level 6, 3 minutes at level 5, and 2 minutes at level 4.

It felt good. No soreness today and I'm looking forward to my deadlift, spoto press, rows, and back raises workout today.

BUT - my wife stayed home and involved in our two sons' schooling, they went to Catholic school all the way through HS and today one is a mechanical engineer and the other a Ph D scientist.

And - thanks to smart investments, (AAPL @ 9, etc) we can pretty much buy or do whatever we want....

Yeah. No kidding. I screwed up by re-seeding a section of the lawn on Sunday. Forgot you have to water every day for a while afterward.

So this entire week my evenings have been sort of frantic with trying to get the lawn watered (moving the sprinkler around every 15 minutes or so) while at the same time trying to make dinner and do the other stuff I need to have done by 5:20 a.m. when I wake up.

Last night I rebelled against being a slave to the lawn and went out for dinner. That didn't help.

cdc may 2020

Disposable medical masks (also known as surgical masks) are loose-fitting devices that were designed to be worn by medical personnel to protect accidental contamination of patient wounds, and to protect the wearer against splashes or sprays of bodily fluids (36). There is limited evidence for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure. Our systematic review found no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.

#1 Don't eat "seed oils"

If you refrain from sugar and eat vegetable oils you're just making it that much harder on yourself.

Seed oils were developed to be a replacement for motor oil, so it was important that they resist breaking down. Thus when your body stores this fat, it causes so much stress to burn it, your body starts begging for sugar, because it knows it will get an easy burn out of sugar.

One thing I keep coming back to - the data Pfizer and Moderna published claimed it stopped transmission of the virus. This is why Biden repeated it and the grounds on which the government tried to mandate it.

Now as soon as the data came up a number of people involved in reviewing the data said it was falsified. The FNM claimed they were liars. The current narrative though is that the clot shot doesn't stop the spread and no one ever claimed it did.

So...from the get go the people working on these shots and those mandating them KNEW they didn't work. And decided to cancel/arrest anyone telling the truth.

People who are not even old!.

Cuomo killed ~16K, Witmer ~8K ... Walz did his share.

And again, I can't believe it because when Covid first hit America (that we know) we used to hear stories about the Nursing Home in Washington (state) like it was the Mask of the Red Death walking down the corridor.

And these fuckers put Covid-positive people right among the most vulnerable population! They all died and their families couldn't gather for their funerals cause reasons.

A couple of my cats will sometimes shadow-box their reflection in a mirror in my bathroom. It's quite entertaining.

I had a cat that dug at the mirror, but he dug around the image cat not at it, so I think he knew it wasn't real. The room through the mirror, though, he might have thought was a neat place to go.

150 I remember being at the grocery store and the cashier was being chided for going to the beach and NOT wearing a mask there by one of his co-workers.

I pointed out most viruses, and especially coronaviruses, can't survive in direct sunlight so unless the cashier was intentionally coughing on someone right in their face or being coughed on he was fine.

And the employees were in shock...the FNM had persuaded them viruses just stay suspended in the air waiting to attack unmasked people like a hawk going after a squirrel or something

This won't help Ukraine, since Storm Shadows air defense has been worked on for a year or more now when they lobbed them every few months at the civilian Kerch bridge at the back of Crimea for no result. Plus they tend to aim for something that kills civilians not hard targets.

But by Russian statement, since the missiles targeting is done by Brits, this puts them on a war footing with the UK. maaaybe not the US, which is what the weasels at State are probably hoping.

175 They put plexiglass shields around the kids at our school's desks. But of course students had to walk through the room to sit there. Dumb. Because a virus will never get over 18 inches of plexiglass.

The dumbest was the arrows on the floor. You could only go one direction. So instead of going left out the classroom door to the classroom next to you, you had to turn right go all the way down the hall, down a set of stairs, down that hall, up a set of stairs past more classroms to the room next to the one you'd been in. Literally past every single other classroom and office in the building. Because apparently viruses only move to the left.

Yeah, part of me is starting to believe they made us sick on purpose.

However, most vegetable oils have a heating and chemical extraction processed.

As opposed to olives and avocados which they just put into a press.

Expeller pressed sunflower seed oil is also not a problem--but it's expensive because you don't get that much oil out of sunflower seeds.

You don't want to know how they extract Canola oil (which there is no such plant as a "Canola". The "Can" comes from Canada, where they first developed it).

A nutrition expert I more or less trust said that nobody would want canola oil in their house unless they infused it with bleach and cleaners (cont)

* Set the instant pot to sautee, add some evoo and sautee the chopped onions and garlic for a bit
* Add all the other veggies, pour in some bone broth, seal it up and pressure cook for 5 minutes
* Store in fridge and enjoy all week.

Monday - push
Wednesday - pull
Friday - legs/core
Tue/Thu - ride the bike for an hour

Listening to audiobooks while I do this.

I think all but one have been repaired, and in a military sense the entire Russian navy is a worthless target, aside from some cruise missile firings at Ukraine train tracks and such. Ukraine's fleet is long sunk, and there won't be any naval invasions.

You can point at a lot of the stupid antics of Ukraine in the south as Brits trying so hard to re-run the Crimean War of the 1850s. For the last year the U's kept feeding troops across the lower Donets into a marshy island mudflat where they huddled for weeks to months while the Russians shelled and bombed them until they were all dead. About a dozen different times so far. And if they DID make an advance the Russians could just bomb an upriver dam and flood them out.

Whole 30 is a DIY version, when you eliminate most known allergy/symptom trigger foods such as sugar, dairy, legumes, etc, and after 30 days, begin adding one category back at a time to see if one of them causes adverse reactions.

If you have known food sensitivities, it helps to work with a registered dietician (not a nutritionist - they get certificates online, while RD's go through university programs and often grad school in dietary science) because they can also work with your doctor to see if you have underlying health issues.

Posted by: Just Lily

That's the kind of effects we saw. Elimination diet is the Whole 30 thang. You eat meats that are untreated, veggies either fresh or frozen, and raw fruits.
Nothing processed. No preservatives. You cook at home a LOT!
My wife has a ton of recipes that we like that are what SHE can eat. May not be YOUR list. Everyone has a different list. I believe it's an ethnic thing. She has American Indian heritage, and so milk is a No-no. No grains of any kind, as an example.
If you see no effects after a time, you're not sensitive. If you see wonderful effects, you begin to add foods back slowly and carefully.

It may only be partially mental, and remember there is no mental without your body being part of it. You want my suggestions--

first thing to do: set meal times and no snacking within 2 hours of bedtime
second: eliminate anything with HFCS, especially that you drink.
third, avoid anything with soy lecithin.
Part of the problem is getting high calories and not feeling satiated. Drinks don't make you feel satiated, and soy lecithin can keep your gut from identifying that you are full.

If you fail and succumb to snacking or a Mt. Dew, review what made you eat that, and figure out a simple way to avoid it in the future. You have to accommodate your body. you have no choice after all.

If you're a sweet eater, that's your candida (stomach yeast) ordering up more sugar. It takes weeks to starve your candida, enough. But once you do it, your cravings for sweets just drop to a manageable level.

Once you can do that, eat butter for a day, all that fat can prime you for a fast.

But of course, check with your doctor or know your condition enough to decide for yourself.

(And to Anonymous Rogue...) Matthew 29:18-20 is the directive Christ gave to Christians, to go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I (Jesus) have commanded you. Our job as believers is to tell others about Christ, and I'm pretty bad about it. I'm afraid of offending, and saying it wrong, and the fact is, if I love others in Christ, I don't want them to be eternally separated from God. That is the fate of those who refuse to believe in Jesus Christ as savior. I think refuse is the key word, but I am not a theologian, and I am still studying and learning what it all means. But John 3:16-21 seems clear about this.
