It is my earnest hope and indeed the hope of all mankind that from this solemn occasion a better world shall emerge out of the blood and carnage of the past - a world founded upon faith and understanding - a world dedicated to the dignity of man and the fulfillment of his most cherished wish - for freedom, tolerance and justice. While one can certainly make the case that the blood and carnage of the past are indeed the human condition. Over the course of human history, in spite of that, there have always been people who have striven to make Macarthur's prayers and hope come true. Yet here we are 80 years on and the nation that was founded as the exception to history to be that shining example of freedom tolerance and justice has rotted out from within by the forces of venality, tyranny and oppression who seek our souls and our destruction to satisfy their base desires for absolute control. Obviously, today as we look to the rest of the world, and most especially to where the precepts of our founders, the Judeo-Christian tradition and Western civilization itself, were born, the land of Israel, it's all collapsing in on itself in an orgy of ancient bloodlust and hatred, as retrograde forces continue their never-ending quest to conquer the world, and/or destroy it if they cannot have it. The twin monsters of slam and Leftism. I'll have to keep it brief today, as I have a very early doctors appointment. Have a good day, keep the faith, and don't let the bastards get you down. The number of pages in the Code of Federal Regulations has gone from 100,000 in the early 1980s to more than 180,000 today. The budget of regulatory agencies has swelled from under $20 billion to about $70 billion, while staffing at such agencies has doubled, to almost 300,000, from its deregulation-era nadir. Estimates of the annual cost of regulations, just at the federal level, keep rising, ranging as high as $3 trillion annually.

Good Morning Kids. This past weekend marked both the 85th anniversary of the start of the Second World War and the 79th anniversary of its official conclusion, with the signing of the surrender of Japan aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.
First World Problem: Since the treaty was signed on the "Next Day" part of the world (eastern hemisphere), what day was VJ? Surrender happened in Japan's time on the 15th of August, but it was the 14th in the former United States. But politicians being politicians, it isn't official nor historically significant until they have blessed it so 2 September is what we get. Not one elected representative has anything to do with the San Francisco monument review. Called for by an appointed activist commissioner, executed by an outside consultant firm, paid for by an NGO foundation, it's a real piece of credentialed astroturf.
Which probably means it will get whatever it calls for, over the unexpressed wishes of those who paid for the monuments. Posted by: Way,Way Downriver at September 03, 2024 07:38 AM (zdLoL) 101

Anyone got a surefire remedy to get rid of flies indoors? We've been inundated and I can't find the spawn point. We've killed a couple dozen over the last few days and I'm keeping things closed up, but it is getting ridiculous. It's too early to go to the hardware store for flypaper, which is my next solution.
Posted by: pookysgirl, flyswatter in hand - We recently accidentally discovered that leaving out a dose of Nyquil overnight will catch gnats, flies, etc. that you didn't even know were in your house. I think it's sweet / odiferous (colorful?) enough to attract them and way too sticky and viscous for them to escape once they touch it. I'd try a little saucer instead of the dosing cup if I were intentionally trying to attract them, though. Good luck. Can't beat the cheat ok? Let's check.
There is an upper limit of the number of ballots they can manufacture. What they don't know is how many they need What is that limit? Well: 1) They thought, in 2020, after over 2 months of steadily dumping fake ballots into the system, that there was no way Trump could over-come that. The 2am Panic was realization they didn't have enough and they had to buy time for the ballots they thought they wouldn't need to be inserted. 2) They dumped Joe. Because Democrats weren't going to vote for him. Giving up the power of incumbency and the pomp of Presidency. 3) They're stealing Trump's ideas. Those are blue-collar, working class issues. And this is the biggest tell--because the ballots they have and will have are no where near enough: They need lots more actual votes. A Kamala presidency would just add a few more nails to the coffin. Closing the border will not stop the slide to third world status with their millions of anchor babies every year. The only thing that could would be a massive, non-stop deportation along with harsh policies to make the lives here untenable so the rest self-deport .

At the surrender, the USN wanted to spruce up the Missouri. Ships at sea - especially ships at sea and actively engaged in war - for years look shabby and rust-stained. The USN wanted to touch up the paint. It was quite an undertaking. Ships' captains hated having paint on board, because it burned like a son of a bitch. Oddly, lots of paint that was *supposed* to be available in the fleet simply wasn't there.

Pennsylvania is starting to worry me. Big time. How can the same electorate vote against Doug Mastriano so strongly turn around and now support Trump?
1. Pollsters are boosting Trump's support. Maybe they don't want to under-count Trump's support like 2016 and 2020? Or they want to curry favor with Republicans. Or, it's an election strategy. Show Trump winning and it boosts turnout. 2. Or, it is pure sexism and misogyny. Obama, Biden, Shapiro, Fetterman, and Harris are all the same flavor of Democrat. There's little policy differences between them. The only difference is that Harris is a woman. Trafalgar is right biased - nearly as bad as Rasmussen. Right wing pollsters are polling more frequently to rein in Harris' surge. These are sinister folks. You never know what specific stunt they'll try to pull to try to steal it. This is one of the great failings of our democracy, where the media is literally conspiring to misstate actual facts on the ground. We need to have a reckoning of evaluating media, and grading them, for trustworthiness and such. PA is a concern. It is almost like Harris wave missed PA. MacArthur's address on the Missouri was surprisingly short. If you've never read it, click the link and check it out. The opening paragraph is incredible and the whole thing is just one page long, a third of which is committed to naming the signatories.

One of the biggest concepts I've been struggling with lately is whether freedom or liberty are actually virtues in and of themselves. These things are ingrained in our American culture and we are inculcated with those ideas early on and often, and assume them as intrinsically true.
But are they? If I have the freedom or liberty to worship Satan, is that freedom actually virtuous, or is it more just a description of a state of being that is neither intrinsically good or bad? Generally speaking, as I view it, we actually restrict our own freedoms and liberty in order to orient ourselves towards the morally virtuous. I constrain myself to monogamy to achieve virtue. I eschew my covetousness to orient myself towards the virtuous. I stay my tongue from the things I'd like to say, to conform myself to virtue. Posted by: Notsothoreau ------------------------------- "Keeping Up Appearances" Posted by: Braenyard at September 03, 2024 08:23 AM (ah1Jo) ++++ Right. It's vital. Every system has rules, and the masters of the system must pretend to follow them. Even autocracies and absolute monarchies have rules and courts and the leaders keep up appearances. "The consent of the governed" is *always* in play and revolution or coup is a continuous risk for every government in history. They absolutely must keep up appearances. It's why "the elections will be canceled" and similar aren't real risks. The elections may well be stage-managed into the "correct" outcome, but they will not be canceled. They're too important. They're a cornerstone of the system, and one of the sources of legitimacy for it. Even brutal Party states like Red China and North Korea have courts and laws and procedures and they even occasionally punish Party men with them. They *must* keep up appearances. Training modules all around, my good man! Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 03, 2024 08:31 AM (0FoWg) ++++ Oh, we do. Publicly. Take Kevin Clinesmith as a "for instance." He was the scapegoat. They transferred all of the sins of Russiagate onto him, and then punished him publicly. Lightly, but publicly. Then they very quietly undid the punishment when they were confident - with good reason, as it turns out - that nobody would notice. But they *did* technically punish him for it. The other Party Men who get punished do so for factional reasons, which is the normal model. This is what things like Xi's "anti-corruption" campaigns are all about. Lots of Party Men get punished during internal purges, but they tend to use the public systems to do it, again because it helps build confidence. "See? Party Men go to jail all the time. Sure, they happen to be in the wrong faction, but don't ask too many questions." Seriously? The idea that states within the Union compete with each other is new? That comparative regulatory and tax rate environments have nothing to do with business and nobody engages in arbitrage? That cost of living isn't a factor? That quality of life isn't a factor? This has been true since Day Zero of this country. There's even a phrase for it: "fifty state laboratories." Only the continued arrogation of powers to the Federal has blunted this somewhat. 251 @TuftsUniversity spent 3 years and millions in NIH funding just to claim that Honey Nut Cheerios are healthier than fried eggs and ground beef.
Posted by: rhennigantx at September 03, 2024 08:31 AM (gbOdA) This makes me angry. It’s the most ridiculous thing, the premise itself is stupid. They are 2 different types of food that do different types of things for your body. Healthier v. Not healthier is silly - you cannot (or should not) live on cheerios alone, not eggs alone, nor ground beef alone. Cheerios offers your body fiber, decent carbs plus vitamins added to the cereal. In terms of a processed food, it’s pretty okay, assuming you don’t add a bunch of sugar. Using a nut milk without sugar helps, too. Are there better cereal options out there? In my opinion yes, because I like food to go through the least amount of processing possible. But is it bad? No. Eggs - great provider of protein. Poached over whole grain toast with sautéd spinach, or peppers or both, is an egg-celent breakfast, lunch or dinner. Ground beef - it’s beef. You can make little steaks, you can make hamburgers. You can add it to all kinds of things and it adds protein some fats, etc. Posted by: Piper at September 03, 2024 08:40 AM (PRqXW) 283

What is that limit? Well:
1) They thought, in 2020, after over 2 months of steadily dumping fake ballots into the system, that there was no way Trump could over-come that. -------- Operative word in that sentence is "pretend." The left is moving away from "pretending" and into "actuality." The absolutely will make every attempt to steal another election. At this point I think they have to. I also think they have a plausible chance of succeeding. Again, because they have to. The movers and shakers behind them are not going down without a huge fight. They've invested too much time, money and effort to let the momentum built up over the last 3 1/2 years be put on hold for another 4. No way they let it slide. "Keeping Up Appearances"
Posted by: Braenyard at September 03, 2024 08:23 AM (ah1Jo) ++++ Right. All governments have to. Posted by: Joe Mannix ========= These statements cannot be emphasized enough. Posted by: whig at September 03, 2024 08:58 AM (kW+z9) 343

Prayer and evangelism is what this country needs. The government is there to punish the wicked. Just because it's not going the way you think it should doesn't mean that it's not what God intends. If you want liberty and justice, spend more time preaching and less time worrying about the president. "God helps those who helps themselves" is originally from a saying by Algernon Sydney and later used by Benjamin Franklin who was a Deist. According to this view, God isn't interested in creation. He just created the world and, basically got the heck out. The Bible repeatedly says "God helps those who cannot help themselves." This is not to counsel a passivity in the face of evil and injustice. It just stresses the God is ultimately in control and we need to rely on His wisdom.

Canada is lost. He sees where our country is headed and he is sounding the alarm before it's too late.
Posted by: redridinghood ===== In politics and even world affairs--no country is 'lost'. What is more true is that the government regime and the people of that state no longer align. Canada is a truly massive place in land area and that results in considerable differences on the ground between provinces and even inside a couple of them based on geologic features (British Columbia for example). The usual result in such situations where the Liberal Dems are strongest in urban areas is that as you get away from the cities--power wanes. Australia has a similar dynamic. Big country, few large cities dominate the political system via representation. Posted by: whig at September 03, 2024 09:15 AM (kW+z9) 399

Their claim is Republicans massively disenfranchise voters. Basically if less then 100% of the eligible population votes its because the right stopped those other voters all of whom were planning on voting for the leftwing candidate. They then use this to justify their massive efforts to vote on behalf of people that don't because those people would have voted D if not stopped. The Senate will almost certainly flip with GOP pickups in WV, MT, and OH. Other pickups are possible but depend on Trump performance in the state. In good polling the Senate candidates are running 2-4 points behind Trump. Any state Trump wins by 5+ will likely be a GOP pickup.

I've seen this in operation which is why I avoid breakfast cereals. Posted by: Divide by Zero ====== The chemical in question is a growth regulator primarily used in imported oats. We endured the 2020 'summer of love' riots over slavery that happened many generations ago, yet most who participated in/promoted this have no interest in stopping slavery happening now - in Qatar, China, even in the US thanks to human trafficking over our open Southern border. Say what? Too many Christians worship Trump?
It's really rich for the left to say that when they don't even want us to worship in the first place. And, this is why Evangelicals are for PDT: We don't have to worry about federal agents showing up at our local church with PDT in office. Unlike Harris, who'd gladly shut down every Evangelical church in the country, if she thought she could get away with it. I'd also point out PDT openly acknowledges the existence of God, which I'm sure really enrages the left. Dave in Fla is far too sanguine about Bernie Moreno beating the Yalie trust-fund socialist Sherrod Brown. Right now, Ohio Repubs think he is losing by a hair, and Brown's advertising ("Moreno stole from his employees") is effective and working. Also, thanks to his commie wife, Connie Shultz, he can expect votes in the Youngtown area (where her family has deep union roots) in split-ballot voting.
Posted by: Huck Follywood ======== Brown is in the danger zone for incumbents. He is polling below 50 percent consistently since the GOP primary at about 46-47 percent. In a wave election, incumbents in that shape usually lose as undecided and new voters break against the incumbent. But, as always, all politics is local. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania right now appear close--GOP candidates are running behind but less than usual against underwhelming Dem incumbents in each state. Baldwin, Slotkin, and Casey, are pretty much generic Dems which can make them vulnerable. Out West, Tester is probably going down this time, Rosen and Gallegos are beginning to pull away but have not yet sealed the deal. Posted by: whig at September 03, 2024 09:32 AM (kW+z9) 494
1. I still have no idea how Democrats think that Republicans steal elections. I really just don't understand what the mechanics are supposed to be.
--- Oh, that's easy--vote suppression. They seriously believe that "when we vote, we win." So, the only way they don't win is if Republicans cheat by keeping their voters from voting. So yeah, all the things they did in 2020/22 were not to cheat but to counter the Republican cheating. Related is, they really believe that Democrats are popular. Like celebrity, rock star, top athlete popular. So, again, Republican cheat by spreading lies about these modern-day saints and heros. "...as we look to the rest of the world, and most especially to where the precepts of our founders, the Judeo-Christian tradition and Western civilization itself, were born, the land of Israel..."
Huh? Well, I guess Christianity started in Israel, but I don't know if you'd necessarily even say the "Judeo-Christian tradition" did. What does that even mean? The 10 Commandments? Were the Jews even in Israel yet, when those were handed down? I have a vague notion that they that was supposed to be while they were wandering around the desert for 40 years. The precepts of the Founders were from the Enlightenment, which was a European thing, and wasn't "Western Civilization" supposedly born in ancient Greece? I've been noticing that Biden and Pelosi and the rest always say "I'm a Catholic" and not "I'm a Christian."
Catholics are proud to be such. Protestants may belong to a denomination that is not well know: Third Church of Christ, West Coast Baptist. What is the Church of All Saints? Lutheran? Protestant is what Catholics call the others. So the others use the generic 'Christian'. Some even say Catholics are not Christians. Biden and Pelosi are neither. @GovernorShapiro This decision is a victory for Pennsylvanians’ fundamental right to vote. There is no doubt the families had a right to observe the anniversary at Arlington and to invite Trump to be there with them. There is also no doubt that the Army, which administers Arlington National Cemetery, tried to stop the event. (Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth is, of course, a Biden appointee.) Army officials reportedly dragged their feet and “stymied” the families’ request to have Trump, according to Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), who heard of the families’ problems and enlisted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to intercede with Arlington officials to get approval for the event.

Daddy Government is afraid because his “children” are done negotiating.
----- Shurk's article is a good one that too few people will read. Like the 4 dead and 50 hospitalized by bad product from Boar’s Head. The government didn't protect those people from tainted meat. They let the problems fly for months before public pressure shut down the plant. Too many Normies grow up with loving parents, and then expect government to take on the role once they move out from their parents' home. Problem is, this attitude turns most Normies into perpetual adolescents. We need more parents who take an insurgent view of government.
