The "rules-based international order" vs. free speech?

idi amin free.png

The left has actually arrived at the Idi Amin position on free speech.

Carl Benjamin

Have you noticed more attacks on free speech than usual?

Noticed more press censorship than normal? More out-and-proud attacks on free speech (plus push-back)?

Yesterday in The Week in Woke, Ace included a video clip of Kamala speaking to the NAACP: "I will direct the DOJ to censor 'misinformation and hate' online". And she asserted that it was necessary to fight this fight as a "community".

A "community" backed up by the strength of the Department of Justice to keep hate and misinformation off social media!

From the comments:

The ARC of History! at September 06, 2024 06:48 PM

Matt Taibbi has been doing a study of the various disinformation "laboratories" at places like Stanford and the University of Washington, and has noted a curious thing about their "research".

The government never provides "misinformation".

All information provided by the government is correct and truthful.

Only opponents of the government provide misinformation.

*

I think the post below is about the same study by Matt Taibbi:

John Hinderaker on Liberal Know-Nothingism:

A novel aspect of our present political moment is that the more credentials a person has, the more likely he or she is to be a Democrat. This wasn’t true 50 years ago; on the contrary. But creeping credentialism has become a key feature of our culture. I think we are in the midst of a coup being carried out by people who are dumb, but have credentials, usually half-baked.

These thoughts are prompted by Matt Taibbi’s current Racket News post. I am not sure whether that link will work if you are not a Racket News subscriber. If not, you might consider signing up. Meanwhile, I will try to do justice to the post with a few excerpts.

Briefly, Taibbi has obtained documents in response to a FOIA request. His post focuses on an alleged “misinformation” expert named Michael Caulfield, of the University of Washington. Early in the covid fiasco, Caulfield wrote an email in which he ridiculed people who were trying to understand the actual lethality of the virus:

Caulfield dismissed efforts to analyze data to figure out what was happening, on the ground that most people lack credentials. (Not that he himself had any relevant expertise, by the way.) Instead, the average person–pretty much everyone–should just figure out “who [sic] to trust.” And that would be the government.

Check out the details at the link.

Of course, as to the covid epidemic, the oft-censored independent voices generally turned out to be right, and the government was wrong.

Finally, I note that Caulfield described thinking for oneself as “a lousy epistemology.” As a one-time student of epistemology, I say with confidence that no philosopher has ever advanced such a theory. The idea that one should always believe the government and follow its dictates has a name, not in epistemology but in politics. It starts with an F. That is where today’s Democratic Party lives.

Why are academia and government teaming up to teach people not to think?

Does the "rules-based international order" sound like a conspiracy theory?

A 16 minute excerpt from an interview with Eric Weinstein showed up in my Twitter feed this week. He is a man of the left, but interesting for a few reasons, among which are:

1. He knows J.D. Vance
2. He is Bret Weinstein's brother and a free speech advocate
3. He named the Intellectual Dark Web. Remember them?

In this excerpt, Weinstein helps explain the behavior of members of The Borg and manages to make one wonder how conspiratorial the "international rules-based order" is, without panicking. Sorry if my comments are disjointed, but the interview is kinda disjointed.

Trump is seen as a threat to "the rules-based international order" which is supposed to keep the world free of war and keep markets open. I don't think a lot of people think that this "international order" has been in terrific shape.

Eric Weinstein is unsettled about this year's election, and his thoughts here should not be considered to be definitive. There are some alternative ideas in the comment thread, too. He doesn't think that Trump will be allowed to become president, or to function as president.

He views Kamala Harris as the tail end of the group trying to hold the order together just a little longer. He thinks the State Department and other agencies have a responsibility to explain to voters that if they choose populist presidents, those populist presidents may risk international agreements. As if the Deep State would ever be this frank with voters!

Check out the last segment starting at 13 minutes, on the media.

There are people who disagree and have other points of view in the comment thread.

*

The longer video from which the excerpt above was taken - more than 3 hours - may be a window into a world with which J.D. Vance was familiar before he became the candidate for Vice President. Eric was the only Democrat at a 3 day meeting years ago with J.D. in Ohio. The segment concerning J.D. Vance starts at 3 hours 19 minutes. He describes his personal experiences with J.D. as being not exactly like the person he sees campaigning. But he is confident that J.D. cares about hillbillies. He describes slavery in the 20th century, lots of it white.
Democrats abandoned the working poor, Republicans started listening to them.

Also in the last segment, how the Democrats will likely neutralize Trump.

Although the video at YouTube includes major topics for segments you can skip to at the bottom of the screen, the entire interview has a kind of stream-of-consciousness character and may be sort of hard for a lot of people to follow. Much of this three-hour interview goes over my head, especially the parts about math and physics, with references to previous conversations between the two men. But the final part, starting at 2 hours 48 minutes, is worthwhile listening, with interesting ideas and memorable illustrations about things like the importance of holding on to heritage and the sacred. He is very concerned about the frightening way heterosexual relationships and white men have been denigrated and ignored in the culture.

He sees AOC as a communist and Kamala Harris as a sort of amalgam of things like Marxist and crony finance (3 hr 9 min). The segment on "what can be, unburdened by what has been" is kind of scary. It starts at 3 hours 3 minutes.

He recognizes that we don't have a president at this time.

*

In case you have been wondering what Eric's brother Bret has been doing lately, he has been campaigning to defeat the enemies of free speech - namely the Democratic Party and their cohorts.

Eric Weinstein described why Something Like That by Tim McGraw is a great, slightly cringey song supporting committed heterosexual relationships in society (at 2 hours and 52 minutes in the longer video).

Eric has an ego, and I really think he can't quite see it.

Some of what he says about the people who shut him out of academia, it comes off as sour grapes. Like he knows he belongs, and they won't let him play their reindeer games.

So when it comes to Trump, and others he's rubbed shoulders with, he takes whatever is their worse qualities, and amplifies them to the point of considering them the whole of the person, the reason they can't be trusted, the way they're not as good as him.

And it causes dissonance in ways I don't think he even notices. It's a very human mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

1. G.W. Bush is a chimp who couldn't run a lemonade stand. Cheney runs everything.

2. G.W. Bush is the cynical mastermind of a sinister cabal operated on his behalf by Cheney to fake 9/11 so he could avenge his father's political legacy by conquering Iraq under the guise of nonexistent but well-marketed "weapons of mass destruction."

Brisk walking is awesome! What kind of squats are you doing? In any squat, it’s seat and hips first, the rest follows, gaze forward. Your knees track over the middle of your feet, but not over your toes, which should be forward. If you are doing a sumo squat, make sure you turn your toes out slightly and it’s okay to have your knees track over them. If you have larger hand weights, you can stand on the heads of one of them for an elevated squat and it will force your knees in the right position, too.

I expect that they'll try to refuse to certify the election, and take other measures if Trump wins.

Our ruling class turned into monsters that have made life steadily worse since the 90's while the average folks were simply trying to stay afloat from the malicious and evil things that the ruling class has done to them. Destroyed reasonable cost health care, destroyed universities and k12 education, destroyed the economy, destroyed civil society, and destroyed the Fed Gov's finances that will lead to a collapse.

Thanks for the link. There was an earlier Japanese study finding junk in the Moderna vaxx that should not have been there. Did not distinguish between poor manufacturing processes and nefarious intent.

UK, of all places, is leading on the research over problems from the adrenovirus carrier based Astra Zeneca vaxx. J&J used a similar approach but the one shot regimen may have precluded the severe problems after that the Astra Zeneca vaxx produced in some people. It had a two shot regimen plus then boosters.

Novavax which is not mRNA but an older vax design is available for Covid if you feel you must vaccinate against what has essentially become another 'cold' corona virus.

Note the continuing efforts by the public health complex to scare teh shit out of everyone each season with Covid and fewer and fewer people masking up, getting boosters, etc. Recently they have tried with bird flu and people have yawned.

Most people with half a brain are not getting the boosters, not masking up, and even locales have abandoned the idiotic six foot rule etc.

The public health people shit in their own nest here and as a result, lots of people are simply avoiding any and all new vaccinations including the annual flu ones. Whether that is for the best or worst, remains to be seen.

Covid response was and is DJT's biggest achilles tendon but the evil mandatory actions by the Dems throughout the Biden and blue state actions made it impossible to use it against him without fragging themselves.

I remember Democrats taking credit for the vaccine after they stopped preventing its availability until after the election, claiming that the rollout that Trump put in place didn't exist and they had to start from scratch and chaos, claiming credit for the successes of the rollout even though the successes were due to Trump's preparations, ... , etc., ... Shall I go on?

Not that I'm pleased with the vaccine. But I can see how Trump, wanting to rescue Americans who were being held hostage to the virus, would do anything in his power to come up with a solution. An effective vaccine is a reasonable response, if such a thing exists.

The media is now an open propaganda wing of the DNC. Their main power is censorship that prevents any unapproved 'news' from being heard and amplified lest it upset the masses.

Like book publishers, the media conglomerates need to be disassembled back into localized parts instead of massive blobs. Contrary to economic theory, monopolies and oligopolies are almost never to the benefit of people. Concentrated economic or political power is always most concerned with keeping that power going--not the common weal.

And I believe the republic is.

Part of the time the Dems don't spend telling us that our insisting on the term "constitutional republic" is needless pedantry and means the "same thing" as "democracy", is spent like the New York Times recent article telling us how our *particular* Constitution gets in the way of "democracy".

Constitutions are particular. A "constitutional republic" is an elective form of government in support of a particular statement of the constitution of government. If a certain republic has a particular constitution that "restricts democracy", then you're basically arguing they are NOT "synonyms".

Well, that just means that "free speech" is not the value we pretend it to be. Because a society that valued the free flow of ideas and healthy debate would not let all the fora be sold to a single individual or set of gate-keepers.

Sure you have "freedom of the press", but "right-wing pamphlets" cost x1000 to print on any press, because they feel that is "responsible".

Which again illustrates that the main thing Trump did was supply that thing which experts had started to say was a necessity to "opening the country back up". I thing that's still part of why Trump lauds how fast he was able to deliver this "vaccine" which was increasingly mentioned as a mandatory condition of opening back up.

And yeah, that does expose that if it takes at least 2-3 years to develop a vaccine. The Dems were willing to not open up for another 2-3 years.

I remember things. Especially rhetoric somebody wants me to take to heart. "Until we get a vaccine" was a thing.

Thus, Trump supplied that condition in record time because he knew the economy couldn't take 2-3 years more lockdown.

It's hard to tell which is the bigger target: the EC or the Court.

The EC is *embedded* into the Constitution. It would be hard to argue that you don't need an amendment, and even harder to argue that it is in some bizarre way "unconstitutional", since it is one of those things almost completely laid out in the Constitution.

The Court is more reachable because as the Federalists even indicate the Supreme Court was one of the last ideas. And was mainly meant so that Congress would not have the power of Parliament to change "what they meant" in the laws already passed.

So, I do think that the Court is the avenue to argue that the EC is "unconstitutional"--or at that point they may even argue that the discretion to rule things "unconstitutional" is only part of their broad powers of review. So, they can pass a bad review of the EC and have it be done.

Agreed. But that allowed Trump to deliver the "condition of opening" that much sooner. In fact, that motivation makes it almost an asset that it was promoted as "The Vaccine", rather than "treatment for Covid" because the latter could have been argued to not actually be a vaccine and so states could "use their discretion" and continue lockdown. Especially if aided by a Trump-hating Congress (DC).

I think a pragmatic adjustment away from an ideology of Science is called for.

280 What we needed, during Covid, was the free exchange of ideas. They would not allow information about actual studies to be publicized if it showed other medications were effective. We weren't allowed to question why there weren't millions of deaths in Africa or deaths among the homeless. We should have discussed the Swedish experiment. We totally threw science and medicine out the window.

I think however, that it is because of the ideology of Science-first that through market forces drives the call to fidelity to a certain, approved Science™.

Clearly, there is no clear limit on the field of inquiry. We uncover more questions every time we "solve" one.

However, there are limited funds to inquire.

Triage must be done. But myself and Science™ probably have different ideas on what and where to cut.

This.

Eric Weinstein discussed it not too long ago, but we've been stagnant for 50 years, with actual science pushed out of Science because it's disruptive (you know, science).

And because of that we've had no real advancements except for making computers and communications devices smaller and faster. The really neat part is realizing that all the advancements have been made in systems to spy on us. Oh well, probably nothing.

But there has been no real advancement or new tech in 50+ years, only refinement.

Take the screens out of a home and - setting aside interior design, furniture, and paint choices - see if can figure out how it's not a home from the '70s.

And a whole lot of bogus and non-repeatable "Science" (so, in essence not Science) in addition.

Unfortunately, it seems everywhere that 80-90% of everything is shit. And maybe not even the institution of Science can escape that Human gravity.

But market products are testable technology. The amount of EC battery explosions is enough to cause people to consider whether it's worth the risk individually or as a whole.

If the additives to make any paint color cause the paint to chip and peel in a couple of months to a year, that paint will be off the market in about double the time.

Thus the market assesses whether or not this is really an improvement in living and whether it's a cute idea that needs some development.

The case that I know could even be more bizarre. Apparently in mid-2019 there were a bunch of these guys discussing what would be needed to "update" our immunization processes. They considered that killed virus, the vaccine that may have actually worked in the past, was "archaic".

They considered that their needed to be some change to force us into "the future" of mRNA vaccines.

Again this is Summer 2019. There is recorded video you can still find online about this.

It may well be that Covid-19 was THE THING that would thrust us forward to "modern" vaccines. And was the cost of this.

I think so.

They told us at the beginning that Bill Gates had warned us.

But what was Bill Gates' TED talk about?

"The next virus that kills 10 million people or more".

And they were referring to Gates before they had the first million--and perhaps even half million official deaths.

It's curious though that Gates lumped his "immunization" efforts under "population control" in one of his speeches.

295 At this point, they're going to have to convince me that Tenet is not a CIA-built Russian façade.

Like some entrapment scheme to show that the "right" is "funded by Russia". And even though it doesn't show that much, knowing that the Demedia is going to take what they have and run with it to the hills.

They couched their language in the 51+ expert statement about the Hunter Biden laptop, which a number of the signers have used to their "defense" since. See, it didn't say that the laptop WAS a Russian op, just that it had the earmarks of Russian disinformation (while actually being true).

But we know how the Demedia was able through this weasel-wording to allow Biden to claim absolutely that the laptop was a KNOWN RUSSIAN OP and Trump was "spreading disinformation".

Parker (Spencer only), Lee Child (before his brother), and Frederick Forsyth books (how's that for an eclectic assortment!). I know my son will give them away or sell them for a dollar!
