Biden-Harris Administration Brings Joy to Employers By Depressing White Collar and Blue Collar Wages

As your wages contract in the midst of high, unstoppable inflation, please remember: Kamala Harris is practicing the "politics of joy," as her media propagandists have dubbed it. She is above petty concerns about real wage losses and stagflation: She's all about bringing joy.

This is "vibes" election, not a "facts" election. Racists.

Via Hot Air, the Wall Street Journal reports a general reduction in wages.

Pay for many white collar recruits shrank last year, and now wages for new hires in construction, manufacturing, food and other blue-collar sectors appear to be ebbing too, according to an analysis of millions of jobs posted on ZipRecruiter.com.

Job seekers report seeing roles that once offered salaries between $175,000 and $200,000 a year ago now being advertised for tens of thousands of dollars less, a change that has had them rethinking their pay expectations. Companies are also moving job openings to lower-cost cities or offering them as lower-paying contractor roles, recruiters and corporate advisers say.

The push to reset employee salaries reflects a power shift in the cooling hiring market.

If there is a silver lining to this stormcloud, it's that a fall in wages will help bring down inflation.

So, problem solved? No, not even close. While falling wages might eventually help bring down the Bidenflation, for a long period we might have falling wages plus rising prices. These things do not perfectly coincide with each other. A wage bubble may pop, but it may take a year for that to impact prices for goods.

Add in the fact we're tipping into a recession and The Fed has no more bullets left for forestalling it, except creating more inflation. So we'll see falling wages, rising prices, and a contraction in jobs.

So people may see the terrible post-Carter recession of 1982-83. Biden and Harris will end their fake presidency and vice-presidency with a perfect economic storm. And this will not Bring Joy, I can assure you.

There's more great news for the Biden-Harris economy: Dollar General is reporting a "record drop" in sales.

Usually downscale stores and fast food restaurants are seen as a good hedge in a recession -- almost recession-proof and inflation-proof, as it were. After all, even poor people have to buy something.

And yet a dollar store is crashing.

Beege Wellborn:

The party of the poor and disenfranchised has done a fine job of "opportunity" and "making life affordable" when their inflationary indulgences have crushed lower wage earners and poorer Americans so severely that even Dollar General becomes an extravagance.

And not just Dollar General:

@FCNightingale

Competitor Dollar Tree was falling in sympathy, off by more than 9% in early trading.
Triple Net Investor

@TripleNetInvest

Brutal

Like I said: Fast food joints and inexpensive restaurants are usually recession proof and inflation proof.

But not in the Biden-Harris economy.

Of course, Harris's home state of California makes it impossible for businesses to remain open.

Shake Shack will shutter six underperforming California locations -- the latest fast food chain to close restaurants after the state enacted its controversial $20 minimum wage.

The burger chain, which will close nine Shake Shacks overall, said the move was a result of a periodic evaluation of its portfolio of company-operated units, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

"These Shacks are not projected to provide acceptable returns in the foreseeable future," the filing said.

Five of the doomed locations are in the Los Angeles area and another is in Oakland, lowering its total to 37 in the state -- where wages for fast-food workers shot up to $20 an hour on April 1.

Shake Shack declined to comment further on California's $20 minimum wage law when contacted by The Post.

It's the first time Shake Shack will close restaurants for purposes that were not construction-related, a spokesperson told trade publication Restaurant Business, which first reported the news.

The other closures include two in Texas and one in Ohio.

Shake Shack said it expects all nine locations to close their doors by Sept. 25.

...

California's $20 minimum wage hike has forced several major chains -- including McDonald's, Burger King, and even low-cost favorite In-N-Out Burger -- to jack up prices to offset the higher wages.

...

Earlier this month, recently hired CEO Rob Lynch said he didn't want Shake Shack to appeal to "only the highest-income burger eaters."

But -- Vibes!

JOY!!!

Meanwhile, major corporations are fleeing the blue cities, leaving them with a hopelessly hollowed-out tax base.

Musk is officially moving X out of (literal) Shithole City San Francisco, and city officials are saying they're glad he's going.

Talk to me in a year when you've got a $100 million hole in your budget and California can't afford to bail you out.

X owner Elon Musk's plan to move the social media platform's headquarters out of San Francisco has some city officials eager to bid farewell to the billionaire's business.

"I share the perspective that most San Franciscans have, which is good riddance," city attorney David Chiu told The New York Times.

The outlet noted that San Francisco Mayor London Breed said she had met with Musk "several months ago" but that she didn't extend offers aimed at keeping X in the city, saying, "I'm not going to beg anybody."

The report comes after Musk announced last month that he will move the company's headquarters to Texas in response to a new law enacted by the state of California that prohibits schools from notifying parents if their children want to change their gender identity.

...

He cited the gender identity law as being "the final straw" and attributed the move to "this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies."

...

Shortly after Musk announced in July that X would move out of San Francisco, he mentioned issues with the "crazy gross receipts city tax" making it "impossible for financial companies to operate in San Francisco."

"That's why Stripe, Block (CashApp), VISA and many others were forced out of San Francisco, as 'gross receipts' came to be defined as all transactions processed by a company, even if NOT revenue. That meant companies processing payments either had to leave SF or die," Musk said last month. "Even if the severe crime problem in SF were to be solved tomorrow, X could not remain in SF and launch payments, as it would immediately fail."

Should the Shithole Cities change their behavior?

Nay, nay! Slit the throats of all the golden gooses! Maybe their dead bodies will produce eggs!

The Footlocker corporate headquarters is also abandoning the Shithole City of New York for sunny, well-run, orderly, low-tax Florida.

Foot Locker is moving its headquarters from New York to St. Petersburg, Florida, by late 2025. The retailer aims to build on its existing presence in Florida, reduce costs, and foster team collaboration as part of its broader strategic plan.

Key Details:

Foot Locker will establish its new headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, by late 2025, enhancing its existing commercial and executive presence in the city.

CEO Mary Dillon emphasized that the move would support the company's strategic initiatives and provide financial benefits, with no required relocation for current employees.

The decision follows similar corporate relocations from New York, including Icahn Capital Management in 2020 and ARK Investment Management in 2021.

Diving Deeper:

Foot Locker announced that it will relocate its corporate headquarters from New York City to St. Petersburg, Florida, by late 2025.

According to CEO Mary Dillon, the decision to relocate was influenced by Foot Locker's significant presence in St. Petersburg, which previously served as the headquarters of Champs Sporting Goods. "We have a large concentration of folks there already, and we think it's a great place for us to continue to grow and do business and continue to attract top talent," Dillon said, underscoring the city's appeal for future expansion.

...

In addition to the headquarters move, Foot Locker is set to open a Global Technology Services Hub in Dallas, Texas, next month. This separate initiative is intended to support the company's modernization of its technology infrastructure, further demonstrating Foot Locker's commitment to leveraging technology as a key growth driver.

Oh, they're putting that in Texas? Weird, lefties keep telling me it's the blue shithole cities which are the magnets for brainpower, innovation, and ambition.

Foot Locker joins a growing list of companies leaving New York in favor of more business-friendly states.

You don't say.

You know, you loose a couple of billion dollar corporations here and a few billion collar corporations there and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

But we can use those downturns to push through the policies we want, whether the economy is good or bad, and then when the magic economy gets better, we can say it was our policies that did it!"

They also get really angry about how Republicans get lucky that the magic economy gets better when they are in charge and gets worse when the Democrats are in charge.

They steal billions on resalable items. Name brands like Tide, or Enfamil, or Schick. They then have supply chains to sell to the small bodega and package stores.

They teach the people to steal the good stuff but then grab a jug of milk or bread so if they are caught they can claim they are just trying to feed hungry children.

I have seen investigators with FDLE follow the same women to Orlando, then TLH, then Tampa where the DAs and Judges left them off with a misdemeanor time served.

States have been able to do wage regulation since the founding and even before that as colonies.

A lot of people never realize just how much states regulated their economies in the first place.

The fed minimum wage is still 7.25 per hour and has not been raised in years.

What you are seeing is the effects of federalism and inflation rates pushing costs of labor higher.
Some states have jumped up labor rates far beyond that. Part of that is because of labor contract language with prevailing wage clauses.

130 One of my peers had this experience at his Midwest mfg. company. A couple of hundred illegal aliens who performed semi-skilled labor walked off the job because they heard that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was going to do a raid. (It wasn’t clear whether the company knew they were illegal aliens or not.) The company was understandably desperate to fulfill customer orders, so they went to the market to replace the employees. When they did so they realized that they had to pay fifty percent more in wages. Fifty percent! The remaining employees who were citizens got a huge raise. The new employees got market wages. These jobs were ideal for those without college educations or formal training. They require some skill, but it can be learned on the job.

Fact: Illegal aliens steal jobs and suppress the wages of remaining jobs

Everyone was encouraged to purchase government bonds, to soak up all the new "money". This worked, sort of. For a while.

Note what was interesting - they didn't decide on price controls when they could have - they did discuss it, with respect to government contracts for production of war material. What better time to illustrate the effectiveness?

Yeah, no. They wanted to achieve an objective in World War II. What did they decide on, these learned economists? Cost plus 15%

The problem is not so much Wickard's mistake but Scalia joining the liberals in Raich v. Gonzalez to retain it because of stare decisis. Scalia has a very idiosyncratic record in constitutional law and Thomas is actually a sounder justice than Scalia ever was.

The court in Wickard was by then dominated by FDR appointees and the decision was during the midst of WWII with massive price and wage controls over the economy. Like Korematsu, there was no chance that those justices were willing to defy FDR when Americans supported him as a war leader.

The court in Raich was under no such constraints and Scalia acted the fool in that 5-4 case to retire Wickard for good.

The summer after High School in the early 90's I got a job before college started at a company that made floating fishing intertubes. There were so many illegals working there. One night shift, one of the guys runs in the back open roll up door screaming "la migra! la migra!" and the whole place cleared out like it was on fire. I'd never seen anything like it. There were probably only 25 employees left. Immigration did show up, and did a half ass job of pretending to care. The place shut down for 24 hours and when they reopened almost everybody was back like nothing happened. It was a real eye opener for an 18 year old kid.

Supply and demand works for jobs, too. It's crazy, they have everybody .... hypnotized .... or something, seeing things that aren't there, and ignoring things that are. They literally want what never was, and never will be.

They want open borders. They want a welfare state. This that, that and this. There ain't enough money in the world to pay for all this shit. Not even close.

Posted by: Common Tater at August 30, 2024 12:38 PM (ytKo6)

175 Eternity Matters, exactly. The first increase in real household income in the lower income brackets under Trump was not sun spots or business cycles or solar winds, it was obviously a direct result of 1) a real, broad-based economic boom that included manufacturing and basic industries 2) a change in the pool temperature WRT illegal alien influx and employment*.

But this central, and rather stunning, economic trend literally made no difference, politically (well, it might have contributed to Trump's historic expansion of his vote numbers as an incumbent running for re-election).

The depressing and persuasive explanation being that the Dem voting base now includes so many policy-immune welfare recipients and esp. government employees, that combined with the dumbed down and brainwashed (and incredibly arrogant and narcissistic) suburban "educated" cohort, such a fundamental economic trend and achievement simply doesn't matter, electorally, any more.

201 Fact: Illegal aliens steal jobs and suppress the wages of remaining jobs
Posted by: Eternity Matters
=======
This is a known fact. It is also a known fact that employers as a rule want cheaper labor costs and will often break the law to do so.

A lot of people that employ firms with gardeners, tree trimmers, construction, remodelers, also turn a blind eye toward hiring illegals if they can get a cheaper price. Same for domestic help.

So you get the current situation--tragedy of the commons. Too many people trying to exploit the system leads to system collapse.

The only correct answer is, "I see through your trick question -- both of them are dummies."

204 "If there is a silver lining to this stormcloud, it's that a fall in wages will help bring down inflation."

I mean, it could, but it's not wiping out previous inflation, and inflation going forward is still likely to be high. The fed losing control and getting into deflation is basically a guarantee they're toast so I don't see them letting that happen.

I've had a 3.4% pay cut myself, not counting bonuses which are going to be only 80% of the normal amount this year. Lots of places are sneaking in pay cuts with benefits changes. Accounting for inflation, base pay is now quite a bit lower than when I started for this employer and they're losing people left and right on account of it. If it wasn't for assorted extra bonuses I'd be jumping ship for a ~50k increase.

Now I need eggs, so hopefully, Aldi's doesn't raise the price this weekend, b/c when they do raise prices on staples, it tends to be drastic...

Posted by: Doctor Elric Blade

The reverse is true too. You cannot build a stable economy by impoverishing laborers and increasing the number of upper income grifters of the system.

Most of the 200k group are not entrepreneurs but service industry employers (and that includes lawyers) that essentially 'tax' industry for their services. The higher paid service providers work in something very close to the old guild system where entry is restricted and practice is monopolized via licensing laws--e.g. lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc.

Labor econ is an interesting subject and difficult to parse out from the individual level to the macro level effects. Has a rare backward bending supply curve for working hours for example. At a certain point, no matter how much they pay you--you have to sleep, eat, etc. or you literally die.

What I can get with approved insurance (and no work) will either immediately kill me or not help much and possibly risk the future helpful treatment - so yes, if I'm stuck, I'm leaning to the latter treatment which is hilariously considered palliative (b/c only old and frail get it). It should be an interesting virtual call next Friday.

Not happy, although I have a very convincing spouse who did mention if I still had the old cancer diagnosis, too, my treatment would be approved, 1 drug from 1 and 1 drug from the other...not sure it works that way...

In his second term, up until the end, he maintained some of his (redeeming) quirks - vetoing the Dem legislature nonsense on several gun-related issues, and even fiscal ones as well.

Then towards the end, he just flip-flopped. An idiotic gun law he vetoed - with a scorching veto message - literally a year before, *he signed*. Without comment. Strangest thing I've ever seen in politix. And nobody has ever had any info or analysis that explains any of it.

If I go through 2 lines before I even get to Car T...it seems like my health probably won't be as great...

That said, the BTKi inhibitor is what I'm looking to combine with Rituximab...and that's the trial - it's literally getting compared to the current standard...and it's 60+.

I'm really bitter about the age, but I computed the number of females under 50 with MCL with TP53 deletion and Complex Karyotype in the US roughly...and by the online stats, I get 2 (now, it could be 5-10 b/c I assumed no combos). Total. 243 total under 50 in the US (before computing for my rare stats) b/c getting it under 50 is so rare. And more than 70% are men.

So, insurance can't handle us, and trials don't want us b/c there's no getting rich at those numbers...

There was a back to the land move in the late 20's as well, this was a reaction to both the Great War, the financial subsidies to farmers after the war to prevent a recession from War spending booms, and the authoritarian streak that the Wilson administration unleashed on the US.
