Where I live the police are armed, but they have very little to do.
They don't give traffic citations unless you do something extreme, except on "campaign" days every few months, which they warn about beforehand and then they drive around with the lights flashing to let people know that if they break a speed limit or do a rolling stop they will be cited.

Imagine driving a long and seeing a cop car behind you, and not thinking you will get pulled over for some bullshit and then harassed. Imagine police who don't speed or run red lights. Imagine police who act like civil servants instead of thugs.

251 A couple of elections ago, in Colombia, there was a discussion in one of the papers there about the US electoral college system, and they contrasted it to the Colombian popular vote, and talked about how the departments (what they call states there) of Cundinimarca and Antioquia (I think I remember) carried the most votes in total in the then recent election, and with an electoral college system the opponent would have won.

There is a real use for the electoral college, it allows the states to participate equally on their population instead of being subject "to the mob"

252 There is a TV ad in Wisconsin that has a couple blaming the loss of their child on Tammy Baldwin, A WI senator. My nieces husband and my step daughter both died from drug overdoses. I told my husband that it never occurred to me to blame Senator Baldwin.
