Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | JD Vance Hits Kamala Harris for Stealing Trump's PoliciesThis is the wrong line of attack. Completely, utterly wrong. If you say she's stealing Trump's policies, that mean she is going to implement the policies people want. Which is much more important to them than squabbling about who gets credit. Trump did the same thing with DeSantis. I mean, 1, I don't know if "enforce the border" is exactly a new policy position, and 2, what does it matter who originated a policy if it's a good idea? Do we shy away from borrowing Reagan's ideas of low tax/low regulation and peace through strength because he thought of them (or, at least, was the first major adopter)? The real attack should be that Kamala Harris is lying. She knows her actual policies are unpopular, so she's lying about them so she can get elected and impose them on an unwilling population. She's not stealing the policy. She's lying about the policy. She has absolutely no intention of implementing "Trump's policies." And if you tell people that she's going to implement Trump's very popular, common-sense policies-- they'll say, "Well good! We get Trump's policies without Trump's baggage." Is squbbling about "credit" more important than that? Anyway:J.D. Vance hits Kamala for swiping Trump's policies Quick Hit: At a campaign rally in Big Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday, Senator JD Vance criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for allegedly adopting Trump's policies, mocking her for mirroring his agenda while campaigning for reelection. Key Details: JD Vance, running for vice president with Donald Trump, accused Kamala Harris of copying Trump's policies. Vance highlighted Harris' shift from being the most liberal senator to supporting policies like border security and tax relief. Vance mocked Harris' approach, suggesting she might even adopt Trump's slogan and attire. Diving Deeper: On Tuesday, Senator JD Vance (R-OH) took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris during a campaign stop, accusing her of adopting policies first championed by former President Donald Trump. Vance, who is campaigning as Trump's running mate, humorously portrayed Harris as someone who closely follows Trump's lead, only to repackage his ideas as her own. Speaking to a crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Vance remarked on what he sees as a significant shift in Harris' political stance. He noted that she once held the title of the most liberal senator, yet now appears to be embracing several of Trump's key policies, including no taxes on tips and a stronger border. "I read a story this morning that her advisers are considering just copying all of Donald Trump's policies," Vance quipped, drawing laughter from the audience. "They're more popular. In fact, I've heard that for her debate in just a couple of weeks, she's going to put on a navy suit, a long red tie, and adopt the slogan, 'Make America Great Again.'" Vance's comments echo Trump's own sentiments. Earlier in August, during a speech on the economy in North Carolina, Trump suggested that Harris has been deliberately holding off on announcing her plans until after he has revealed his, allowing her to mimic his proposals. "Kamala Harris won't end the economic crisis, she will only make it worse," Trump told his supporters. "And why hasn't she done it? She talks about it, she's doing a plan, you know, she's going to announce it this week maybe." Trump then added, "She's waiting for me to announce it so she can copy it," which was met with cheers from the crowd.Trump gets at the right line of attack there -- "If she really supports these policies, then why isn't she already doing it, then?" is the right way to answer this. But it's buried under a lot of whining that she's copying his homework. If you accuse her of stealing good policy ideas, you might just accuse her into victory. Please stop. Please focus on what actually matters, not this petty personal grade-grubbing bullshit. She's not even claiming she'll build the wall. She's doing what she did with fracking -- having anonymous aides tell her media allies that she's changing her position, without committing to that change herself. Of course, this comes to Axios through unnamed campaign aides, since Harris herself still won't speak to reporters or publish her policy positions:Ed Morrissey explains that Kamala is attempting to claim she supports the wall indirectly, by claiming she supported the Amnesty proposal pushed by that pale wan dickwarmer Lankford. Lankford's bill, he claims, exchanges amnesty but also "requires" funding for Trump's wall. But what does it actually "require"? Ed Morrissey explains: Almost nothing at all.[Marxist propaganda rag Axios:]Needless to say, this new position-ish comes with a lot of caveats, with the first being that Harris herself has said next to nothing on this or any other policy as the nominee. It's what she did say at the convention that appears to have forced the campaign to address this, however. In her speech, Harris blamed the border crisis on Trump's opposition to a bipartisan immigration-reform proposal that Harris herself never endorsed, as Senate Republican James Lankford reminded Axios. Harris never once voiced support for the bill, and in fact never got involved in border-security issues, a crisis in which Lankford was closely engaged, calling Harris a "Johnny-come-never" on the issue. Beside, the compromise bill may have given the Biden administration authorization to spend money on extending the Trump border wall -- but it was not nearly enough... "Requires" does a lot of heavy lifting here. Trump estimates that it will take $18 billion to complete the project. The compromise bill only authorizes $650 million, which only amounts to a 3.6% down payment on the full wall. At an estimated $46 million per mile, that appropriation would add a grand total of 14 miles of barrier on the southern border. That border stretches for over 700 miles, meaning that this allocation would have covered a grand total of 2% of the problem. That's why Trump opposed it, of course. It was yet another fake. Lankford claims the bill "requires" funding for the wall, but when you check the specifics, it "requires" only 3.6% of the funds necessary. Which will be reversed as soon as amnesty is granted anyway. And furthermore -- PRESIDENTS ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO SPEND MONIES AUTHORIZED AND ALLOCATED. The bill can authorize the funds, but Biden-Harris would just choose not to spend it. Or to spend it on "related" matters, like... processing illegal aliens into the country. This is all a lie, a scam, a hoax, a grand deception on par with those perpetrated by the Soviets and Nazis. It is in no way "copying Trump's plan." It's such a huge self-made disaster to do Kamala's bidding and pretend along with her that she's "copying Trump's plan"!
She wants people to think that she's "stealing Trump's border policies" -- Trump accusing that only confirms her lie! Harris is also lying now about not backing Electric Vehicle mandates. DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION--Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign team said Tuesday it's a "lie" that she supports electric vehicle mandates, but her record on the issue suggests the opposite. The Harris campaign blasted out an email ahead of Republican Ohio Sen. JD Vance's Tuesday visit to Michigan, with campaign communications official Ammar Moussa writing that Vance would "undoubtedly lie" about things like the notion that "Harris wants to force every American to own an electric vehicle." However, Harris backed EV mandates while serving in the U.S. Senate, and presided over the Biden administration's massive spending and regulatory push to effectively force more EVs on the roads. "Vice President Harris does not support an electric vehicle mandate," Moussa wrote in the email. "Donald Trump railed against the Inflation Reduction Act while the Biden-Harris administration oversaw the creation of tens of thousands of new, clean energy jobs in Michigan and provided ground-breaking subsidies and tax credits for electric vehicles." The Daily Signal depends on the support of readers like you. Donate now Then-Sen. Harris was a co-sponsor of the Zero Emissions Vehicles Act in 2019, a bill that initially proposed to require 100% of new car sales to be EVs or otherwise be emissions-free by 2040. Harris later campaigned, during her failed 2020 presidential bid, on having all new car sales be zero-emissions models by 2035. Harris was also the second-highest ranking member of the Biden administration while it pursued the biggest EV agenda in American history. The Biden administration has a goal of having EVs or other zero-emissions models make up 50% of new auto sales by 2030. Regulatory agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration promulgated stringent regulations that will effectively force auto manufacturers to significantly increase the share of EVs and zero-emissions cars in their new fleets by 2032. Moreover, the administration is spending billions of dollars to boost EV production, adoption, and charging infrastructure.I hope we don't start hearing she's also "copying Trump's let-the-market decide policy on EVs." The border is one of the most radioactive issues for Kamala Harris. She is lying to make that issue go away. We cannot assist her in selling this enormous lie to the public, for the love of everything holy. Now having made a clear case as to why this is bad messaging, I'll now be attacked personally for not having enough Faith in Donald Trump and causing great harm to the cause by offering legitimate criticism which would actually help the campaign craft a more effective message. I'm putting out "bad vibes" that hurt Trump, and we can only show Love for Trump. As if this is a competition to see who loves Jesus more. As I've told people before: If you want to have yet another Who Loves Trump More competition, let me stop you right there-- you win. I'm not competing. You are the Biggest Trump Lover. You don't have to fight me for the title. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

++++ Bingo. If the idea is good - and it is - then why wasn't she doing it for years? She is obviously lying and trying to con people into supporting her based on pure fiction. "Kamala says she wants to enforce the border, but that's MY idea" is stupid. "Kamala says she wants to enforce the border, but her history and platform make it obvious that she's a lying bitch" is much better. And lefties will all echo that of course their candidate will do the things promised and if they are "right wing" ideas their candidate will do them in a more responsible way that a rightwing candidate. And if their candidate wins and then of course does the opposite of what was promised those SAME leftists will argue that of course it was never the candidate's position. I agree with your general take on this, ace, but I think "she's lying" is supposed to be understood.
And here's the reason they are taking this tack. Because calling a politician a "liar" doesn't move much of the needle. People already know politicians lie so they tune it out if it's given to them consciously. So the idea is to get people "pregnant" with the idea that she's lying and figure it out for themselves without them having to really do any lifting. They are more likely to believe it if they think of it than if they are told directly. Also the type of person that steals an idea fits in with their larger Kamala narrative being painted. We've certainly disagreed on Trump, and I'm very comfortable in saying that I have more faith in Trump than you do. That said, you're absolutely right on this one. If you had to choose between lying and stealing to determine which word has the bigger emotional punch, it's definitely lying. It amplifies Trump's initial line of attack on Kamala that she will say anything to gain approval. She shifts her public identity on race to appeal to whichever group she's in front of. Technically, that's not lying, but it conveys that she's very flexible with the truth. She has no intention of implementing Trump's policies, so calling that lying is fair game. I do expect him to calibrate his message to convey 'lying' versus 'stealing'. He has shown the capacity to recalibrate given new information. I expect him to do so soon. lmao even There has never been a time, before - apparently - now, that one candidate stealing the other candidate's ideas was not a good thing for the other candidate. No, somehow if you attack them for having no good ideas so they have to steal yours, you're actually helping them. Somehow. (Ace's explanation for how it could help Kamala is pure bullshit.) Give some reasons why attacking Kamala for stealing Trump's ideas is a bad thing that actually makes fn sense. That doesn't require the assumption that voters who hate the situation with the border are so stupid that they'll believe Kamala is really serious. Were there any conditions outlined in the contract that she had to fulfill to receive the promotion or was it simply based on staying employed? Posted by: bluebell ======== There are. Uses a split screen of Kamala debating Kamala. Effective in my humble opinion. But, actual campaign messaging is always a something that requires constant fine tuning to whatever their internal polling and surveys tell them. And putting resources in those areas where the themes work and pulling back in areas where the themes do not work. That, rather than the horse race scenario, is why internal campaign polling is really for a different purpose than media polling. I see this canard a lot. Nobody that I have seen proposes "the wall" as the entire solution. It's a *part* of the solution. Staunching the flow is part of it. Deportation is another. Cutting off benefits and making life harder is another. Punishing those who employ them is another.
None of it can possibly work in isolation. You may not need *every* component, but you do need multiple components, no matter what. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 29, 2024 01:49 PM (HnUIn) ====== In a properly-functioning nation, you’d be correct. A wall would be a single tool among many for securing citizenship against dilution. America is not a properly-functioning nation. We are never going to get mass deportations. Even if Trump is elected: - he is too much of a bleeding-heart to oversee the violence necessary to remove 30+ million invaders - the GOP Congress will never authorize mass deportations - the filibuster will allow dems and McCain Republicans to block any solutions - there are hundreds of Hawaiian judges who will hold everything up until political winds shift and the dems are back in charge That’s the simple truth. Posted by: sniffybigtoe ======= Not necessarily. Trump's hope to beat the cheat is to turn out a lot of voters that are very occasional about it. Same as Presler and co registering these folks (and hopefully turning them out). Predominately, these voters do not resemble demographically what GOP has traditional sought to do in campaigns--limit turnout and aim at groups like suburban college educated women and men. One of the reasons that Trump's big turnout strategy is unpopular with the GOP types is that it is more a personal constituency rather than a GOP one. That means these new voters may not be voting down the line for the GOP's interests in states. That makes for trouble with corporate and wealthy donors that expect the GOP to protect their interests in states and Congress. Posted by: whig at August 29, 2024 02:11 PM (kW+z9) 240

Trump is building a Unity Coalition, bringing together the Dems disillusioned by corporate sponsorship of last week's DNC. RFKJ and Tulsi represent this cohort. 6. Mean reversion. A little mathy, but real nonetheless. Kamala is such a bad candidate that she can't be propped up even for the next month. and lastly... 7. Gavin, Gretchen, Josh and Wes. I think Vance and Trump are assuming voters understand that she is stealing the campaign ideas, or insinuating she would pursue them, but that she is lying.
I think Ace is correct that maybe Trump and Vance need to be more clear about the fact that she's lying, and has no plans to implement any of these policies. I'm actually not a big DeSantis fan, but that's why Kamala got a huge bump, people want something new. If she came from outside the Biden Admin, she'd win. Trump fatigue is real.
The "Trump Fatigue" argument is stupid, but very real, unfortunately. Dems spend so much time hyperventilating about Trump being an unacceptable Nazi threat blah blah blah, while he's really just a bit of an outsider, and then (successfully) argue to normies that Trump is just exhausting, and voters should vote Blue no matter who to calm things down to normal. Of course, any other Republican candidate has the opposite problem, because there is a large Trump or die contingent sick of the Establishment, wary of any other candidate, that probably wouldn't support a different Republican. I would rather watch RDS debate Kamala than Trump, but I think RDS would have a hard time getting all of Trump's voters...or RFK-type independents unhappy with the system. You have good points. But essentially a lot of people have their minds made up here. Some believe all is lost, others don't. Some hedge their bets like me. I haven't done massive datacrunching in political model building since the 00's and it is not a way I want to spend the remainder of my days plus I am rusty at the specifics with no grad assistant to enter data. So, I rely on others for data which means I have to accept their assumptions for that data to be valid. And I temper that with past experience actually working in campaigns back in the 80's and 90's at the congressional level and at the local level most recently. My guess is that Kamala's support is brittle and Walz did not help her at all in getting any convention bounce. That makes her path to EV victory more difficult than Biden's was in 2020 even if you discount the fraud (which you cannot). Trump has a reverse Bradley effect in surveys aka the Shy Tory effect that bedeviled British pollsters. More people vote for him than indicated in the polling results which was true in 2016, 2020, and might be in 2024. Dunno--not privvy to those private campaign polls. How do you deport 60M+ illegals? One by one and you won't get them all. But the ones you catch, they leave paying with their own funds, leave with nothing - the State confiscates everything (houses, cars, etc.) even if you have a 'family'. If they don't like it they can leave with the miscreant. This message needs to be disseminated far and wide. If you get caught then you lose EVERYTHING, no legal recourse. If you are undocumented then you don't exist.

The media will manufacture and amplify "excitement" over ANY dem, and let ANY Republican have it with both barrels. RDS trying to counter that with nothing but facts would be futile. >>49 Here's Harris' real position:
"An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal." "We are not a society that is going to stand for tearing families apart. We are not going to buy into this administration’s fear mongering." "Give people a path to citizenship. The vast majority of folks we’re talking about are living a lawful life and paying taxes." "It’s ludicrous to say we’re going to deport 12 million people. Now how are you going to do that?" http://tiny.cc/to3kzz yes, that's the message! Posted by: ace at August 29, 2024 02:59 PM (KRtlO) 331
Yep. She's lying about stealing them. Don't fall into their trap.

I don't read Vance's comments that way. He's mocking her. We all know she won't do any of them. The people who are voting for her know she won't follow them.
He's making a joke of her, a laughing stock. It's effective. Posted by: Black JEM at August 29, 2024 03:17 PM (GZYu7) 333
He won a razor thin election in 2016. Then proceeded to lose every other election that involved him in any capacity.
That’s his record. Posted by: Write it off Jerry at August 29, 2024 02:27 PM (DhFgH) == I think more accurately is won 2 lost 2. Because we know he won 2020. And 2018 was essentially an abdication by the RINOs, especially Ryan. There was some value in that, but it did hurt. Posted by: Black JEM at August 29, 2024 03:25 PM (GZYu7) 334
"Meanwhile I’ve got a nasty sinus infection and just started the antibiotic this morning so no relief in sight for at least 24-48 hours and the headache that comes with it is the mother of all headaches, like my face is gonna split in two."
My sympathy. Sinus headaches are nasty, and a bad one pretty much renders me useless until it goes away. Had one that peaked last last night that was a doozy. If I'm lucky I can catch it before it really starts with a strong decongestant. If unlucky, ugh. Posted by: RM at August 29, 2024 04:11 PM (WXucK) 335
Kamala on the riots with Colbert.
"They're not going to stop. They're not going to stop. People should beware. Nor should they stop." Add fire and violence clips. Then add one of her spots about how she prosecuted people. Plenty of these type quotes around. Posted by: RM at August 29, 2024 04:18 PM (WXucK) 336
