JD Vance Hits Kamala Harris for Stealing Trump's Policies

This is the wrong line of attack. Completely, utterly wrong.

If you say she's stealing Trump's policies, that mean she is going to implement the policies people want. Which is much more important to them than squabbling about who gets credit.

Trump did the same thing with DeSantis. I mean, 1, I don't know if "enforce the border" is exactly a new policy position, and 2, what does it matter who originated a policy if it's a good idea? Do we shy away from borrowing Reagan's ideas of low tax/low regulation and peace through strength because he thought of them (or, at least, was the first major adopter)?

The real attack should be that Kamala Harris is lying. She knows her actual policies are unpopular, so she's lying about them so she can get elected and impose them on an unwilling population.

She's not stealing the policy. She's lying about the policy. She has absolutely no intention of implementing "Trump's policies."

And if you tell people that she's going to implement Trump's very popular, common-sense policies-- they'll say, "Well good! We get Trump's policies without Trump's baggage."

Is squbbling about "credit" more important than that?

Speaking to a crowd in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Vance remarked on what he sees as a significant shift in Harris' political stance. He noted that she once held the title of the most liberal senator, yet now appears to be embracing several of Trump's key policies, including no taxes on tips and a stronger border.
"I read a story this morning that her advisers are considering just copying all of Donald Trump's policies," Vance quipped, drawing laughter from the audience. "They're more popular. In fact, I've heard that for her debate in just a couple of weeks, she's going to put on a navy suit, a long red tie, and adopt the slogan, 'Make America Great Again.'"
Vance's comments echo Trump's own sentiments. Earlier in August, during a speech on the economy in North Carolina, Trump suggested that Harris has been deliberately holding off on announcing her plans until after he has revealed his, allowing her to mimic his proposals.
"Kamala Harris won't end the economic crisis, she will only make it worse," Trump told his supporters. "And why hasn't she done it? She talks about it, she's doing a plan, you know, she's going to announce it this week maybe." Trump then added, "She's waiting for me to announce it so she can copy it," which was met with cheers from the crowd.

Trump gets at the right line of attack there -- "If she really supports these policies, then why isn't she already doing it, then?" is the right way to answer this. But it's buried under a lot of whining that she's copying his homework.

If you accuse her of stealing good policy ideas, you might just accuse her into victory.

Please stop. Please focus on what actually matters, not this petty personal grade-grubbing bullshit.

She's not even claiming she'll build the wall. She's doing what she did with fracking -- having anonymous aides tell her media allies that she's changing her position, without committing to that change herself.

Of course, this comes to Axios through unnamed campaign aides, since Harris herself still won't speak to reporters or publish her policy positions:

Needless to say, this new position-ish comes with a lot of caveats, with the first being that Harris herself has said next to nothing on this or any other policy as the nominee. It's what she did say at the convention that appears to have forced the campaign to address this, however. In her speech, Harris blamed the border crisis on Trump's opposition to a bipartisan immigration-reform proposal that Harris herself never endorsed, as Senate Republican James Lankford reminded Axios. Harris never once voiced support for the bill, and in fact never got involved in border-security issues, a crisis in which Lankford was closely engaged, calling Harris a "Johnny-come-never" on the issue.
Beside, the compromise bill may have given the Biden administration authorization to spend money on extending the Trump border wall -- but it was not nearly enough...

Ed Morrissey explains that Kamala is attempting to claim she supports the wall indirectly, by claiming she supported the Amnesty proposal pushed by that pale wan dickwarmer Lankford. Lankford's bill, he claims, exchanges amnesty but also "requires" funding for Trump's wall.

But what does it actually "require"? Ed Morrissey explains: Almost nothing at all.

"Requires" does a lot of heavy lifting here. Trump estimates that it will take $18 billion to complete the project. The compromise bill only authorizes $650 million, which only amounts to a 3.6% down payment on the full wall. At an estimated $46 million per mile, that appropriation would add a grand total of 14 miles of barrier on the southern border. That border stretches for over 700 miles, meaning that this allocation would have covered a grand total of 2% of the problem.

That's why Trump opposed it, of course. It was yet another fake. Lankford claims the bill "requires" funding for the wall, but when you check the specifics, it "requires" only 3.6% of the funds necessary.

Which will be reversed as soon as amnesty is granted anyway.

And furthermore -- PRESIDENTS ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO SPEND MONIES AUTHORIZED AND ALLOCATED. The bill can authorize the funds, but Biden-Harris would just choose not to spend it. Or to spend it on "related" matters, like... processing illegal aliens into the country.

This is all a lie, a scam, a hoax, a grand deception on par with those perpetrated by the Soviets and Nazis.

It is in no way "copying Trump's plan."

It's such a huge self-made disaster to do Kamala's bidding and pretend along with her that she's "copying Trump's plan"!

Then-Sen. Harris was a co-sponsor of the Zero Emissions Vehicles Act in 2019, a bill that initially proposed to require 100% of new car sales to be EVs or otherwise be emissions-free by 2040. Harris later campaigned, during her failed 2020 presidential bid, on having all new car sales be zero-emissions models by 2035.
Harris was also the second-highest ranking member of the Biden administration while it pursued the biggest EV agenda in American history. The Biden administration has a goal of having EVs or other zero-emissions models make up 50% of new auto sales by 2030.
Regulatory agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration promulgated stringent regulations that will effectively force auto manufacturers to significantly increase the share of EVs and zero-emissions cars in their new fleets by 2032. Moreover, the administration is spending billions of dollars to boost EV production, adoption, and charging infrastructure.

The border is one of the most radioactive issues for Kamala Harris. She is lying to make that issue go away.

The US/Mexico border is about 2,000 miles. Assuming *no* wall or fencing exists (or that any existing wall or fencing must be replaced), that comes out to $9 million per mile.

I wonder how much that is graft. I'd guess at least $4 million, probably closer to $6 million.

And here's the reason they are taking this tack. Because calling a politician a "liar" doesn't move much of the needle. People already know politicians lie so they tune it out if it's given to them consciously.

So the idea is to get people "pregnant" with the idea that she's lying and figure it out for themselves without them having to really do any lifting. They are more likely to believe it if they think of it than if they are told directly.

Also the type of person that steals an idea fits in with their larger Kamala narrative being painted.

A lot depends on the state you live in. Are you in a "Right to Work" state? If so, an employee can be terminated for any reason what so ever.

Were the tasks she hasn't followed through with outlined in the initial contract? Were there any conditions outlined in the contract that she had to fulfill to receive the promotion or was it simply based on staying employed?

Will a new contract be drawn up for her new position assuming she gets the promotion? If so, you might want to consider putting in certain conditions (the tasks she hasn't done, for example) to be met by a certain date/time else she returns to her old position or is outright dismissed.

My problem with Trump's debating style is that it all seems to be stream of consciousness. He rambles without answering the question most of the time. I grant you that my preference isn't everyone's, but for my money, I find JD much more effective. He takes the point, turns it back on the interviewer, and then softly by with deadly precision provides several key facts that utterly refute the assumptions of the question and the questioner, thus calling the latter's honesty into real doubt.

Tribute/cover bands are a major thing in Australia. A lot of big acts don't go to Australia much because it's far away and there aren't many big venues. It's hard to make money on tour stops there.

So there are lots of Australian cover/tribute bands. "The Australian Metallica" and whatnot. I kind of get it in their particular and unusual scenario.

However, it's been shown, conclusively, in 2016, that Wayne County straight up makes up numbers for what they say is in their ballot boxes.

I don't disagree, but I do think that mass deportations need not be comprehensive. We don't have to deport 30 million people. We probably need to deport a million or so. Making life harder (cut off benefits, dry up work, etc.) and a major show of force will drive a lot of self-deportation. The number of forcible deportations is probably comparatively small - *IF* the policy complex is sufficient enough to encourage them to do it themselves.

Not necessarily. Trump's hope to beat the cheat is to turn out a lot of voters that are very occasional about it. Same as Presler and co registering these folks (and hopefully turning them out).

Predominately, these voters do not resemble demographically what GOP has traditional sought to do in campaigns--limit turnout and aim at groups like suburban college educated women and men.

One of the reasons that Trump's big turnout strategy is unpopular with the GOP types is that it is more a personal constituency rather than a GOP one. That means these new voters may not be voting down the line for the GOP's interests in states. That makes for trouble with corporate and wealthy donors that expect the GOP to protect their interests in states and Congress.

Tribute band Back in Black is quite good. They played for AC/DC at their birthday party a while back. AC/DC had rave reviews for them.

I've seen them multiple times. They're quite good and the lead singer can do all 3 phases of Brian Johnson's voice.

I still remember the last cigarette vending machine I've seen in the wild. A diner I would go to in Denver. They not only had one, it actually worked. They had a switch for it behind the counter. If you wanted to buy smokes from it, they'd flip the switch for you (I assume to prevent underage purchase).

I wonder if they still have it. It was next to one of the last working pay phones in the city. I still have a mental map of working pay phones (as of 2020, anyway) in the parts of the Denver metro I'd frequent.

On of the best nights of my like was in college at PA battle of the bands. How we got a slot in the show was beyond me, because this was a serious talent show with pro bands competing. But we did. When I took the stage and looked out over the thousands of people, I almost shit myself. I was 19 or 20 and felt like a rock star. We fucking rocked it. For about 5 minutes. Then disaster struck with major equipment malfunctions.

This is the biggest reason why I was dead set against RDS running against Trump this time around. Those Trump voters were all set to get behind DeSantis in 2028 had he waited his turn. Instead, he ran his quixotic campaign and was forced to turn to GOPe fundraisers to finance it.

I haven't done massive datacrunching in political model building since the 00's and it is not a way I want to spend the remainder of my days plus I am rusty at the specifics with no grad assistant to enter data.

So, I rely on others for data which means I have to accept their assumptions for that data to be valid. And I temper that with past experience actually working in campaigns back in the 80's and 90's at the congressional level and at the local level most recently.

My guess is that Kamala's support is brittle and Walz did not help her at all in getting any convention bounce. That makes her path to EV victory more difficult than Biden's was in 2020 even if you discount the fraud (which you cannot).

Trump has a reverse Bradley effect in surveys aka the Shy Tory effect that bedeviled British pollsters. More people vote for him than indicated in the polling results which was true in 2016, 2020, and might be in 2024. Dunno--not privvy to those private campaign polls.

My sympathy. Sinus headaches are nasty, and a bad one pretty much renders me useless until it goes away. Had one that peaked last last night that was a doozy. If I'm lucky I can catch it before it really starts with a strong decongestant. If unlucky, ugh.
