The Morning Report — 8/28/24

kamalaschultz.jpg

Good morning kids. Rush Limbaugh of blessed memory used to say that the Democrats could never be honest about what they wanted to do because if they did, they'd never get elected.

But once they are elected, legitimately or otherwise, the failures of their policies still do not seem to matter, most especially to those who reflexively keep voting them in. I mean, just look at California. And yet.

After nearly four interminable years of an illegitimate Biden-Harris Junta, run no doubt from Kalorama (and Davos) that have lain waste to our economy, society, the rule of law and brought the world closer to global war than ever before (all this on top of the 8 years of Obama's initial stint of fundamental transformation), They're seemingly out in the open about it. And yet, after announcing that she intends to Sovietize the American economy with price controls, the reaction from even those in her own party was to backtrack faster than you can say five-year-plan.

Finally, weeks after having Biden thrown under the bus and being installed at the top of the ticket, she will make her first appearances on state-run media. And yet, those pulling the strings still feel compelled to do this:

What should volunteers for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign tell voters about her policy positions? It’s hard to say.Over the course of the Democratic National Convention, Harris’s staff held several messaging sessions for supporters of her presidential run. There, attendees were given a crash course on how to convince their friends and family to vote for Harris this November.
But several of them left those sessions, which the Washington Free Beacon attended, a bit befuddled. There was no clear policy outline for campaign volunteers to bring home, nor would any staff members commit to a position on a variety of contentious issues. . .

. . . When asked by the Free Beacon, for example, about how voters should square the Harris campaign's repeated criticism, and sometimes mockery, of Trump’s tariff proposals when the White House has made many of its predecessor’s tariffs permanent, deputy communications director Brooke Goren said, "I’m not going to get into proposals about what the vice president might roll out in the future."

Those at the top know the positions. There aren't any, none that could be revealed lest they completely turn off all but the most hardcore leftist voter. One merely has to look at the track records of Harris and Walz to see what their true beliefs and values are. The Dems can't have that, now can they.

On top of that, we now have Harris taking credit for Trump's border wall and claiming to want to expand it as well as claiming to now be against EV mandates that she pushed hard for not so long ago.

So the strategy is just keep your mouth shut (Willie Brown sighs in sadness) and hope the courts and the media can clear the playing field for you to Walz right into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

On top of Jill Stein, Cornel West and RFK Jr., being abused, the latter's endorsement of Trump is going to be a factor — that is if this latest maneuver from the despicable Jack Smith doesn't thwart the Trump train:

The new indictment removes a section of the indictment that dealt with Trump’s interactions with the Justice Department, an area of conduct for which the Supreme Court in a 6-3 opinion last month said Trump was entitled to immunity from prosecution.

The updated criminal case no longer lists as a co-conspirator Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department official who championed Trump’s false claims of election fraud. Trump’s co-conspirators were not named in either indictment, but they have been identified through public records and other means. . .

. . . The indictment retained the allegations that Trump attempted to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the electoral vote count. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court that the interactions between Trump and Pence amounted to official conduct for which “Trump is at least presumptively immune from prosecution.”

The question, Roberts wrote, is whether the government can rebut “that presumption of immunity.”

Aside from the charges being baseless and spurious, the SCOTUS has already ruled that for his official actions in office, Trump is indeed immune from prosecution. Which in a sane world doesn't even have any bearing on this because in no way did Donald Trump attempt to foment an insurrection or interfere with the electoral process. But you knew that already.

By hook and by crook, all that matters to the Left is attaining, maintaining and increasing their hold on absolute power over us.

Todays’ Democrats likewise are targeting the Constitution’s guardrails against tyranny of both the minority and the majority. On his way out the door, Joe Biden has proposed “reform” of the Supreme Court that would limit the tenure of justices to 18 years, and give the executive branch oversight of the Court, threatening the separation powers and the Justices’ independence. Another target is the Electoral College, which prevents the president from being chosen by a majority that would likely ignore or diminish the rights and interests of less populated states and regions.

. ..Finally, the political philosophy of the Democrat Party is consistent with the early Progressives: scientistic technocracy, utopian goals, and a rejection of the underlying principles of the Constitution, which is part of a more general rejection of tradition, especially religion, and common sense. For today’s left, their foundational philosophy is “make it new,” the same guiding doctrine of Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution, when what he called “the four olds” ––“old thought, old culture, old customs, and old habits” ––were eliminated by mass murder.

For today’s progressive Democrats, the Constitution–– with its divided and balanced powers, Bill of Rights, and ordered liberty–– is the bulwark against the tyranny they seek to impose on their fellow citizens who resist their utopian delusions, and to expanded power toward which both “marches” have been advancing.

Whether they succeed, or are slowed down enough to change course back to our Constitution, will be determined in November.

Perhaps, in a sense, and again I don't know what's in his heart, and he is after all a Kennedy, perhaps RFK Jr. sees this at long last for what it is and doesn't like what he sees. The problem is the LIVs who do not know or have been brainwashed about history to get them to see this. A tall ask.

Policy positions, schmolicy positions. Just promise paradise on Earth, blame America, capitalism, western civilization and white people for all the misery, call for more of the same to fix the problem, and the world is your oyster. Munchausen's by Progressivism.
Have a good day.

I have a feeling people began figuring out that what happened to our nation - and their wealth, jobs, etc - at the speed at which it happened likely wouldn't have occurred with legitimate elections.

Now make that 10 mi stretch two lane, through critter country. And someone who just HAS to do 70,,, or so, climbs up to a couple car lengths behind you and stays there.

And that ain't the worst of what I dealt with on my commute, before I retired.

French was one of the few classes I really sucked at in HS. The only reason I took it was the teacher was hot. At the beginning of the year she informed the class that she was pregnant and would be taking a leave of absence after the first quarter. She was replaced by a woman nearly twice her age who was French. Being native her French was flawless but her English was not so good. I bombed.

Because that ruling is largely immaterial, because..

A. Jack Smith knows that SCOTUS wussed out and that a higher court will simply put the decision aside because...

B. Garland will simply say ok, he's just one of my prosecutors now.

C. Cannon wussed out by not dismissing the case on the merits and going to an ancillary matter which means the case will live on regardless of what appellate judges decide.

A lot of 50+ year old Southerners think that about most of the rest of America, especially with the great migration. There was a time when you'd hear that Shelby Foote measure and tone and accent (with slight regional changes) almost everywhere you went down here. The locusts destroyed it. It's gone. There is no elegance or color anymore. It's all homogenized into an uninspired New York-Californian blandness now.

Driving to Maine a lot, I thought about the math. To make high speed travel worth it, you can't stop, the distance has to be long and your speed has to be above 75.Even EZ Pass can wreck the average trip time.

---------
Trump actually had a plan to address this sort of thing. "Schedule F." It would have put most of those positions into a class that could be fired at will by the President.

His plan was to take any, and most all federal positions that had anything to do with making/enforcing "policy" into a fed job that you be removed from when administrations change. Like appointments. He's probably issue this as an EO. But it'd still have to be implemented by fedgov.

The issue I have with this "plan" is that as administrations change this could be rolled back. That is assuming this "Schedule F" could ever be implemented in the first place. The lawsuits alone would probably take decades to resolve, making Trump's "Schedule F" DoA from day one.

I'll give Trump an 'A for effort' on it. But it will never fly.

An older woman I know had a dachshund as an emotional support animal. She can barely take care of herself, let alone a dog (there's a reason legit service animal organizations screen handlers and train the animals to counteract this). Two weeks ago, after she was finally discharged from the hospital, she had let it out in the yard, without a leash, and of course it went after another dog and got run over. It was a sweet dog, but in no way equipped for what she wanted it to do. I'm hoping no one tries to "help" by giving her another dog.

194 The big reason we’re all gobsmacked at the way the Harris campaign is proceeding is that there is no real campaign at all. No positions, no arguments, no real rallies (all astroturfed). The entire “campaign” consists of all of the media going all in and pretending that those things exist, even though they don’t.

And so we worry, can she really do a Maduro and blatantly cheat her way into office? Since they’re telegraphing to all of us that’s their only real plan.

196 >>So...Trump can issue another identical Executive Order on Day-1, right?

Sure. And I expect this time not only will Trump be much more aware of his surroundings and the levers of power but he will have a much better team in place to enact his policies.

It's easy to forget that when Trump won in 2016 it was considered a miracle. Nobody expected it and as soon as he won the entire swamp rose up to stop him including the Russia hoax that consumed 2+ years of his administration. Nobody wanted to work for him and aside from people like us nobody believed how corrupt the government had become.

The country and the world are much different places 8 years later. We are still the underdogs and so is Trump but we are in a far better place to fight now than we were then.

Whatever the case I doubt it would ever survive long enough to do any good. What would go a long way towards resolving the bureaucratic nightmare would be a massive reduction in funding for rogue agencies.

But, again, the next administration can just re-fund.

236 >>I didn't realize it was an EO. I thought he and his admin were going through the motions to formally introduce it as a new fedgov policy and it never really got implemented.

Nope. He issued it right before the 2020 election. It was going to be the centerpiece of his 2nd term until the election was stolen. Probably one of the bigger reasons the swamp helped steal the election and one of the least commented on.

There is a way to turn this around without widespread violence, get more people on our side fighting against them instead of fighting against ourselves.

Trump isn't going to sign a national abortion ban? I don't give a shit. Harris will make abortion legal at all times in all places. Trump is mean! Good! I don't want to date him I want him to crush communists.

Trump is our weapon not our boyfriend. The enemy is over that way. Spread the word.

240 I think in the 30+ years I worked for the feds the only time I felt like my job was in jeopardy was when Clinton took office and the DoD was looking to RIF people due to funding issues.

*RIF = Reduction In Force

It turned out to be unfounded fear. The DoD (and other agencies not favored by the left) didn't shed many jobs. IIRC some temporary employees got canned and fewer tons of coffee was procured.

241 I saw that earlier. Hey, we're literally sliding right into full-on Communism if that cackling ho gets "elected," but yeah, Trump's not concentrating enough on the abortion issue.
--------
And if you establish the precedent of a federal law disallowing all [or 99%] of abortions, the Dims can pass a law re-legalizing it and make it even worse, like making all of them 100% tax-funded, when they get back into power.

It's also hypocritical when the prolife strategy of the past 50+ years has been to get it returned to states' control.

Now is the time to concentrate on fighting it at the state level but that's harder than running a national campaign.

As brutal as this is, the Tri State (I-294) is even worse. It is virtually the American Autobahn. And the police don't seem to care. They speed along with everyone else. Now throw in a whole lot of construction and narrowed lanes. Let's just say, it's exciting!

321 >>>>People who live in this complex are now living under a Venezuelan warlord named "The Cookie Monster."

Yep, the US hq for the Venezuelan gang TDA is here in Aurora:

Aurora — a quiet bedroom community with a population of 390,000 directly east of the Mile-High City — has become a base of operations for the brutal Tren de Aragua gang, which has seized multiple apartment complexes and set off a wave of violent crime.

Denver leads the nation in new migrant arrivals per capita, with more than 40,000 arriving from the southern border since December 2022.
In February, the Aurora City Council passed a resolution 7-3 emphatically stating that it will not provide resources and support to migrants or others brought into the community from neighboring cities.

Aurora is home to a huge amount (about half the city's population) of **legal** immigrants and refugees. They've said "no" to illegals because they have systems in place to handle more than their share of legal immigrants.

The rot runs deep and in almost every level of society beyond government. That is the deeper problem. Generations that knew what America is supposed to be dying away and younger generations brainwashed into killing it off for good.

Anything remotely independent is bad.

Taking responsibility for yourself? Bad.
Doing as you're told and going balls-deep into the system? Good.

Because this is the base premise, anyone who does wander off the path is doubly bad, because he will demonstrate the alternative to those who didn't. Those who didn't may then choose to step off the path themselves (bad) or be filled with bitter resentment for *not* stepping off the path, and lash out (bad).

The thing about taking responsibility for your health, lifting in particular, is that it builds discipline, goal setting and attainment. It teaches you that YOU are in control of your destiny, that YOU make those goals happen with daily work, not luck or a gift from someone else.

Plus, progress is good. I didn't really have the victim culture problem, but getting into less deplorable shape has been distantly enjoyable, in terms of effects. I hate everything about the process (I do not enjoy exercise in the slightest, even after having been doing it for months), but I do like the outcomes.

The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica recently wrote & fact-checked a history article, August 21, 2024;
Bush v. Gore, legal case, decided on December 12, 2000, in which the Supreme Court of the United States reversed an order by the Florida Supreme Court for a selective manual recount of that state’s U.S. presidential election ballots. The 5–4 per curiam (unsigned) decision effectively awarded Florida’s 25 Electoral College votes to Republican candidate George W. Bush, thereby ensuring his victory over Democratic candidate Al Gore.

And, never thought to look at Snopes, same topic, in the past few years. Found, Did Al Gore Certify Election Results of Bush's Victory? The vice president does not have the authority to reject a state's chosen electors, Published Jan. 5, 2021. (A C-SPAN video, Gore Rejects Vote Objections, accompanies the article.)
