DNC Viewership Down 22% from 2016

I guess that might indicate a lack of enthusiasm.

However, there's a reason the headline mentions 2016 rather than 2020 -- viewership is slightly up from 2020, and Biden came close enough in that one to steal it.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) saw a 22% decline in viewership compared to 2016, despite a slight increase from 2020 numbers. President Biden's late-night speech and the DNC's efforts to attract younger audiences couldn't match the engagement levels from previous years.

Key Details:

Viewership Drop: The DNC drew around 20 million viewers, down 22% from 2016, but slightly up from 2020.

Biden's Speech: President Biden's late-night speech likely impacted overall viewership, attracting 19.1 million viewers.

Network Ratings: MSNBC led viewership across networks with 4.6 million viewers, followed by CNN and ABC.

Diving Deeper:

The Democratic National Convention's opening night on Monday drew approximately 20 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, reflecting a significant 22% drop from the 2016 convention. This decrease comes despite a slight increase from the 2020 DNC numbers.

President Joe Biden's speech, which marked his final convention address as the leader of the Democratic Party, was scheduled late on the East Coast, likely contributing to lower viewership. The speech, which aired from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET, drew around 19.1 million viewers.

The event was broadcast across 13 networks, with MSNBC leading the pack, attracting 4.6 million viewers. CNN and ABC followed with 3.2 million and 2.8 million viewers, respectively. Fox News, CBS, and NBC also pulled in significant numbers, but none reached the highs seen in past conventions.

Speaking of stealing the election: the Biden-Harris DOJ is pleading to allow non-citizens to vote in swing-state Arizona.

The Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday requested the U.S. Supreme Court "deny" Republicans' bid to enforce an Arizona law requiring individuals to prove they're U.S. citizens when registering and voting in elections.

Arguing on behalf of the administration, U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar requested that the nation's highest court instead allow a lower court decision -- one prohibiting the implementation of provisions of the statute in question -- to remain in effect for the November election.

As The Federalist previously reported, the 2022 law mandated residents to show documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) when registering via state voter registration forms. The statute also required such proof for individuals submitting mail-in ballots and voting in presidential contests.

(In Arizona, individuals who do not provide DPOC when registering to vote are permitted to do so as "federal-only voters" and cast ballots in federal elections).

If you have no proof of your right to vote, you can only vote in federal elections. Perfect.

This strange result comes because the 9th Circuit is on shaky ground setting aside rules for state elections, so they restricted their decision to federal voting.

The Republican National Committee and Arizona's GOP legislative leadership filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court on Aug. 8, asking the justices to place a stay on the lower 9th Circuit Court's decision and allow the law's DPOC requirements to take effect for the 2024 election. Nearly half the country's state attorneys general and several conservative organizations have since filed amicus briefs with the high court requesting a stay be issued.

Happy Friday Ever, everyone!

SCOTUS gave our entire country the finger with their denial of the last election lawsuits. There was plenty of meat there for them to at least set some guardrails and avoid what’s coming. They failed miserably.

The law clearly states that illegal aliens can’t vote and the states all have and interest and standing in that argument. As does every citizen. The 9th as usual played activist and was cutesy with this decision. It’s time for SCOTUS to at least acknowledge the states have an innate constitutional interest in ensuring that every voter must be reasonably verified as being eligible. That means some form of ID and now that states are giving illegal aliens licenses, proof of citizenship beyond a basic drivers license.

They have been fighting over this for a long time. At least a year but my memory is fuzzy.

They passed a law saying that you need proof of citizenship to vote in the state, but it could not apply to federal election. Something about other laws requiring easy access and no barriers (civil rights, or something.) So they came up with a system where you have to prove you are citizen for state ballots, but for federal office it is a matter of "honor" -- that is, it is illegal and penalties are harsh and that should be enough of a deterrent.

But since no one is ever prosecuted it is not a deterrent. But, they say -- you lose chance of green card if you are caught voting. Again, there are lawyers who argue, with success, that you can't blame a dumb immigrant so immigration courts remove that penalty. That is the whole plan -- they intentionally made it confusing to encourage non-citizen voting, and to make it excusable if they are caught so they can not suffer penalty.

82 69 SCOTUS gave our entire country the finger with their denial of the last election lawsuits.

To believe the rumors, John Roberts begged and pleaded his fellow jurists to not take up TX v PA, ensuring them that the country would return to normal with a Biden victory.

Since Roberts seems immensely diminished since (the overturning of Roe and Chevron are probably not things he wanted), I don't think SCOTUS will treat election lawsuits the same way.

We'll see, though.

I think that’s a fair read. There is nothing here that is partisan. Clearly there are many substantive issues and material situations that show we have an election integrity problem. Furthermore that the federal government has an interest in ensuring that elections are free and fair is self evident. The question becomes the mechanics of how that is done. I don’t think (nor should we) look for SCOTUS to be prescriptive, but to set the guardrails such as ID and proof of citizenship, validating voters on mail in ballots or on any ballot is acceptable, etc.

130 The Hill: Texas AG Ken Paxton executes search warrants in major Democratic county in election fraud probe.
“Texans are deeply troubled by the possibility that organizations purporting to assist with voter registration are illegally registering noncitizens to vote in our elections. If eligible citizens can legally register to vote when conducting their business at a DPS office, why would they need a second opportunity to register with a booth outside?"

Texas does all it can to keep Democrats from voting. Example: You need a photo ID to vote. University ID’s are not acceptable, but Concealed Hand Gun Licenses are.

It's already made it's way thought the federal courts and I believe it went to the Supreme Court. Until that changes, there isn't much we can do about the photo ID law.

2012 in PA, under GOP governor Corbett, the state implemented voter ID - including a requirement of a birth certificate (which costs money). Because a cost was associated, it violated the 24th Amendment (poll tax), the PA state courts struck it down.

"...elections are the cornerstone of our republic.", Paxton says. So is accepting the results of the election, asshole!

They usually have a phrase too like "hit it out of the park", "rose to the occasion", "had a moment". All written before the speech is even committed to the page.

165 Some courts, at least the few honest ones left, are loathed to step into election issues since many of them are partisan. They don’t want to show any bias and ergo tend to look at cases where it’s more a matter of practice, not politics. That’s why I believe a look at contemporary society and aspects of election practices are ripe. They tend to be inarguably good practices with little to no impact on voters, nor do they suppress the vote as claimed.

It has been argued that while there is a lot of leeway in what legislatures can do, allowing non-citizens to vote or any substantial fraud deprives citizens of their rights under the equal protection clause.

____

On one hand, you have significant federal oversight of elections in states that resisted Reconstruction 140+ years ago*. On the other hand feds have no oversight whatsoever on all the other states including those with obvious massive cheating operations. I'd say we have a little unequal treatment under the law already.

*never mind that fed oversight is worthless, other than as an annoyance, looking at you Atlanta

I may have mentioned this before but when I became a widow I immediately cut out the (then truly crappy and slow, intermittent) internet and satellite TV provider. They were both charging well over $100/mo.

I was really bummed at first. But I soon realized how much time I wasted watching TV (and most of it I'd already seen before, or it wasn't worth watching anyway). The internet provider then upgraded to "fiber" and started trying to get me back. They went as low at $25/mo. for 1 year. Right now the offer is $30/mo.

But I've realized I have too much to do and don't need temptation to slow me down. So the answer is still no.

Also, the kids (who aren't really kids anymore) don't like hanging around where there's no internet IFKWIM.

Because of some court ruling decades ago, you cant effectively "screen" federal ballots. So a "dreamer" (illegal) can request a ballot for only federal office (not state) and they have to be given to them. But state law can screen these types of ballot requests.

So what yo have is Dems outperform in federal races vs state races in AZ.

340 USA Today: "That's my dad!": Watch Gus Walz's emotional reaction to seeing his dad on stage

Tim Walz's 17-year-old son has ADHD, along with a non-verbal learning disorder

CBS News: (In part)
Gus is a high school senior. His parents recently disclosed to People magazine he has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD and an anxiety disorder. They called his condition "his secret power" and said he's "brilliant" and poised for success.
Unlike learning disorders that make it difficult for a child to learn to read, a non-verbal learning disorder affects different kinds of learning, including the ability to notice patterns and learn concepts, according to the Child Mind Institute.
"These include visual patterns, social patterns, and concepts in language and math," the organization notes on its website.
Those with a non-verbal learning disorder may also have trouble with non-verbal social cues such as body language and facial expressions.

408 >>> 327 How late did the RNC speakers go at their convention? Surely it wasn't until 11:00? What is the point of having all these speakers?
Posted by: FenelonSpoke
----------------------------------

I haven't been watching DNC, just seeing the livestream summary of each night at Breitbart. It sounds like they are letting people go on waaaay too long and have pointless musical acts or extra people in between the speakers dragging out the time.

RNC did a good job of having a lot of voices, but keeping them short enough that none of them dragged out. I enjoyed hearing everyone and several people I felt could have gone on longer, which is great. Keep the audience wanting more, not checking their watches.

Trump was the only one that felt too long, but I think there was def strategy behind it. It showed he has the stamina to speak in a way Biden can no longer do because of physical and mental decline. Plus it's Trump, as the nominee he can speak however long he likes.
