Vice President Kamala Harris's speech Friday was an opportunity to get specific with voters about how a Harris presidency would manage an economy that many feel is not working well for them. Unfortunately, instead of delivering a substantial plan, she squandered the moment on populist gimmicks. ... One way to handle it might be to level with voters, telling them that inflation spiked in 2021 mainly because the pandemic snarled supply chains, and that the Federal Reserve's policies, which the Biden-Harris administration supported, are working to slow it.Three years later and these supply chains are still "snarled"? Here's the real explanation: Due to a two year lockdown, the public's appetite for spending was already high. Demand was already very high. Biden, in accordance with standard Democrat Marxist economic "policy," looked for any plausible reason to disburse public monies to Democrat constituencies and interest groups. He claimed he needed to "stimulate" demand -- which was already high -- by flooding the world with greatly devalued dollars. Demand was already artificially high due to the lockdowns and then he juiced demand again by spamming out trillions in debased dollars. That's why we have and continue to have inflation. Not because there were some supply chain interruptions in 2021. Anyway:
The vice president instead opted for a less forthright route: Blaming big business. She vowed to go after "price gouging" by grocery stores, landlords, pharmaceutical companies and other supposed corporate perpetrators by having the Federal Trade Commission enforce a vaguely defined "federal ban on price gouging." Never mind that many stores are currently slashing prices in response to renewed consumer bargain hunting. Ms. Harris says she'll target companies that make "excessive" profits, whatever that means. (It's hard to see how groceries, a notoriously low-margin business, would qualify.)Even the Washington Post is rejecting the "greedy corporations" Marxist pandering. But I wanted to link this story for another sign of Kamala's public insobriety: She actually didn't blame inflation on "price gouging." She blamed inflation on... "price gauging," whatever that is.

Yea, that's another reason why I think she's stoned and not drunk. Usually by the time a drunk gets to impaired, goofy speech they already can barely stand. She is still able to walk mostly normally. But if you're stoned, the impaired speech and weird mannerisms -- and thinking everything you say is funny and joyful -- often exist without any noticeable inability to walk.

But Benzos can give the appearance of being drunk, which probably is what she's doing because it's really hard to sneak a drink when you're VP but extraordinarily easy to mix in some special pills with your daily vitamins.

I'm sorry Jim - you are going through a lot. Just a thought on your son - my son at age 17 hated HS mostly because he was bored and not into the social scene of HS. I enrolled him in an alternative HS in our town and it was fantastic. Maybe something like this would work for him? It was all of the traditional courses but tailored to each kid and without the peer/social pressures of a regular HS environment.

We are omnivores. Our bodies are quite good at telling us what we need and what we are lacking. Really young children have this down. We train it out of them (eat everything on your plate or no dessert!) or it gets trained out due to foods available and being pushed. As adults, we ignore it for fad diets or because we have gone so long with the ignore, we don’t recognize the signs. Think about it- you are told to drink x number of glasses of water. Truth is, you should drink when you are thirsty. You are told to eat this or that, truth is you need a variety of foods if you are otherwise healthy. So much more here, but I feel like I dominate conversations like this so I am going to practice being quieter.

Humans are omnivores - our digestive tract is longer than carnivore, shorter than herbivores. Teeth have grinders and sharp teeth. Women tended to do plant gathering/growing/and small animal tending where physical limitations especially during pregnancy are less of an issue. Men went off and hunted for protein which could cover for shortfall in the other food sources.

Saw "ALIEN: Romulus" this weekend.
No real Spoilers; Still a bit kinda sorta spoilery.
Basically, it took bites out of the first 4 ALIEN movies, and blended them together, ultimately, focussing most heavily on 1 & 4.
And, unfortunately, Romulus is being used as a bridge to bring Ridley Scott's terrible "Prometheus" crapola back into play, so expect that as the next movie.
On the upside: TJM will be thrilled with the prospect of more "Prometheus" ahead.
I rate the ALIEN movies in the order 1, 2, 3 Romulus, 4, rest of the crap.
Romulus starts out great but surprisingly loses steam when it should just get going. The Xenomorph itself plays a shockingly reduced role, which IMO is a mistake.
Check it out. Or don't.

Not really, RT scores are often pretty good as long as the show avoids actively attacking the audience. Even the alt reviewers said while not a great movie, some things worked and were homages to the old shows rather than destructive to them.
Plot holes and the like are usually forgivable on the spot and would just affect if you go back or stream it later yourself.

CARB - can't drive trucks older than model year 2011, and the new electronic emissions controls on new trucks makes them prone to breakdowns.
UBER - Can't be an independent trucker in California and can't visit container ship ports.
JAB - up until 2022 had to have the Jab to drive trucks in California.
The Transportation Secretary had the ships park further out to see so you can't see them from the coast, to make the problem invisible and alternate east coast ports are not efficient and require a trip around South America.
Because of the poor U.S. Corporate Tax situation, none of that manufacturing moved back to the United States

Further Borderlands weren't as successful. They did have a craft system where you could mix and match parts on your guns and weapons to make a custom design I hear, but it was pretty much a shoot em up type of game with some quirkyness.

There was a show that week after Biden was couped out. Obama was clearly backfooted by Kamala being endorsed - in a separate press release - and the getting Biden Delegates saying they would vote for her. Whatever dumb plan Obama had was out the window then.

I think Mike Ehrmantraut (portrayed by the great Jonathan Banks) was a generally sympathetic character -- although he showed up probably after you stopped watching.
In "Better Call Saul" it was probably Nacho Varga (portrayed by the talented Michael Mando).
But wifey refused to watch either for the same reason -- no likable characters.
I loved them because I think Vince Gilligan is a genius -- and from a purely cinematic perspective they were brilliant.

As they explained in some of the behind the scenes interviews and such, the entire point of a lot of the characer arcs were to show everybody "breaking bad" at some point.
From the klepto sister, to Skylar going along with Walter's schemes, to Hank breaking rules to get Walter, they all went wrong.
Except for one character, Walter's son; Walter, Jr.
They specifically pointed to him as the only character that didn't break bad.

I can't think of one either. Fascinating characters it had, esp. Walter White; and he may have started his journey into the meth world to provide for his family, but it didn't end up that way. But not likeable, no.

Never saw BB but I'd guess the lead character reacting and beating the system that screwed him most of his life for a while then coming to a bad end is where the draw comes. So you can understand some and see the criminals get punished and feel satisfied.

No booze on carnivore.
After dropping about fifty pounds, I figured it would be ok to have a drink every now and then. I had become a total lightweight, prone to killer hangovers after just one drink.
After a year of carnivore, I got to where I have to force a drink down. I'll nurse a shot for a couple of hours in a social situation after almost twenty years of pouring myself four to six ounces at 5pm sharp every night just to get started.
Turns out they just discovered that brain cells suffering insulin resistance can feed on acetate in the bloodstream. Remember that shit about how alcohol kills brain cells? Seems it can do the opposite.
