Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Five People, Including a Personal Assistant and Two Doctors, Arrested in Connection With Matthew Perry's Overdose DeathI don't know if there's any grist here for the political mill.A prosecutor says five people have been charged in connection with Matthew Perry's death from a ketamine overdose last year, including the actor's assistant and two doctors. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada announced the charges Thursday, saying the doctors supplied Perry with a large amount of ketamine and even wondered in a text message how much the former "Friends" star would be willing to pay. "These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry's addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong," Estrada said. Perry died in October due to a ketamine overdose and received several injections of the drug on the day he died from his live-in personal assistant. The assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, is the one who found Perry dead later that day. The actor went to the two charged doctors in desperation after his regular doctors refused to give him ketamine in the amounts he wanted. DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in one instance the actor paid $2,000 for a vial of ketamine that cost one of the physicians about $12.He was undergoing "ketamine infusion therapy." I'm not sure for what. Ketamine is sometimes used for depression or chronic pain. I don't know if any of this was legit or Perry just googling "ways to get ketamine legally." In any event, the ketamine infusion was not a big enough dose, or a recent enough does, to explain the massive, lethal dose he had in his bod. ... Ketamine was listed as the primary cause of death, which was ruled an accident with no foul play suspected, the report said. Drowning and other medical issues were contributing factors, the coroner said."Drowning... was a contributing factor in his death" is an odd sentence. Two things I never understand: Celebrity millionaires who become drug addicts. As I think Dennis Miller once said, these people are rich enough to be able to pay people to act out their hallucinations for them. Why bother with drugs? Doctors who turn drug dealer. Doctors are pretty rich. Yes, I guess it's nice to take $2000 bucks, tax-free, for each $12 dose of ketamine you sell to an addict. But... risk-reward, man. That addict will eventually kill himself, and then you'll be prosecuted. And lose your medical license. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Yeah, not all doctors are rich. Actually the more 'generalist', the lower the pay. Hence why surgeons always want to do surgery: it's not just because that's what they know how to do, but that's how they make money. They don't make nearly as much for a patient they prescribe therapy to as they do off surgery.

I recently saw a youtube video on this kind of thing with rockstars. I forget who was talking with whom but it came down to they're rockstars and they want the party to keep going after the show. Once you reach megastar levels, bong hits are a joke and even B-leaguer coke habits just won't cut it. So the megastars end up doing stuff that was the model for the drug scene in "Bachelor Party". I was watching a documentary on Jean Claude Van Damme, who was at the pinnacle of stardom and then destroyed it with drugs. Anyway: nobody ever starts drugs thinking they’ll end up as junkies. Never. They always think “oh I’ll just try it, no big deal.” It always starts off small. Then gets incrementally larger. The user never even really realizes they’re hooked until it’s too late. And once hooked, it’s very very hard to get clean. Almost impossible. Another off the wall opinion --
I don't they know what half these drugs really do. They invent them and produce them and push them through FDA and then the drug company execs sit around in a conference room saying: "Yeah, that's the ticket! We'll tell them it helps during sedation." Then they also spread rumors that that it is "recreational" and pump up the secondary market. So many fentanyl od’s happen when the person used some other recreational drug, or what they think is a prescription drug ( remember the adderall shortage at pharmacies after Covid?) but it’s been laced with too much fentanyl.

232 182 Oh, come off it, Whig. Lear created some great characters — Archie, George Jefferson, Fred Sanford, among others — that escaped his liberal fever brain and took on lives of their own, and that everybody references and remembers fondly.
Posted by: Bulgaroctonus ====== You can like him all you want. I find him and his shows awful and low in entertainment value. I don't mistake my opinions on entertainment as fact. Simply the way that I feel. Almost all celebrities, I simply don't care that much about them nor their lives. You have to work your way up to being an obnoxious asshole to make me care. Lear and Reiner cared enough to put in the work to make me dislike them and everything they did in response. I'll finish by Get Off My Lawn!!! Posted by: whig at August 15, 2024 05:29 PM (kW+z9) 276
Lear didn't create the form of "everyone is a loathsome asshole and sometimes it's funny" comedy, but he definitely made it the dominant thing for American tv.
Who did create it? Jackie Gleason i guess, i don't know. Posted by: Warai-otoko at August 15, 2024 05:29 PM (BAEGB) 277

Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) Yes, that's what I meant in my reply to whig. Regardless of the creator's intent, some characters just take on a life of their own which may contradict that intent. But... risk-reward, man. That addict will eventually kill himself, and then you'll be prosecuted. And lose your medical license. Actually as I understand it, prosecutions and lost medical licenses are pretty rare. Those punitive measures generally have to go through the local medical licensing boards, where most of the members engage in the same activity.
