Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: The Great Barrier Reef’s Coral Cover Keeps Setting Records, Despite the Prophecy of its DemiseOne of the catastrophic predictions put forth as a “scientific fact” by the climate cult is that unless dramatic actions are taken to eliminate fossil fuels, the death of the Great Barrier Reef is assured. Unfortunately for the climatistas, the reef just isn’t cooperating, as it has achieved a record level of coverage for the third consecutive year. A sacred cant of the climate cult is that global warming has caused “bleaching” of the Great Barrier Reef, resulting in decreased coral coverage, and setting the reef on the road to extinction. That is all nonsense, and it is being disproved by the reef itself as it continues to grow. Before the current rebound, there was actually a tremendous decrease in the reef’s coverage about 15 years ago, but the cause was not water temperatures nor CO2 in the atmosphere, rather it was due to a powerful hurricane crossing directly over the reef, an event that is not uncommon in those tropical waters. This Guardian story from a decade ago was clearly wrong, but it is also typical of what has been accepted as the scientific truth regarding the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef will suffer “irreversible” damage by 2030 unless radical action is taken to lower carbon emissions, a stark new report has warned. But the truth about the reef has played out quite differently… “After a trillion tons of CO2, the Great Barrier Reef hits record coral cover third year in a row” [Joanne Nova – CFACT – 6/30/2024] After a trillion tons of CO2, the Great Barrier Reef hits record coral cover third year in a row. Sixty percent of all human CO2 emissions have been emitted since 1985, but today, the corals are healthier than ever.Bjorn Lomborg has been doing some outstanding research using the official government records of the Australian Institute of Marine Science and he’s found that not only is the Great Barrier Reef not in peril, but that its expanse has set a new record, as it thrives and continues to grow. Using the Australian government’s own records, he has put together this graph, showing the reef’s coral coverage over the past four decades. The red-dashed line was the doom scenario that had been promoted by the “97% consensus” of climate apocalysts, whereas the blue line is reality. As has been the case time and time again regarding the climate hoax, the prophecies of doom that were reported as scientific facts turned out to be nothing but junk science mixed with enviro-communism. But what about that large drop off in coral cover that occurred before this recent growth spurt, causing “record low” cover around 2012? At 2005 the Great Barrier Reef’s coral cover was just about the same as it had been 25 years earlier, with some upcycles and downcycles in coverage over the years. But for a few years starting in 2010 there was a pronounced decline in the reef’s cover. It had nothing to do with climate, and everything to do with a hurricane, which is known as a cyclone in those parts. Cyclone Hamish in 2009 didn’t strike Australia perpendicularly, rather it ran parallel to the coastline, scouring the Great Barrier Reef along the way, as shown in this map of its track. “Research Reveals Cyclone’s Ravages on the Reef” [Australia Institute of Marine Science – 8/20/2009] The Great Barrier Reef was severely buffeted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish, which roared down a substantial part of the reef system, causing widespread though variable damage and in some places reducing coral cover from 70 per cent to 10 per cent. How did the cyclone damage the reef? Damage ranged from "exfoliation", where the reef matrix was removed along with all that grew on it, leaving bare limestone, to "scouring" that essentially stripped all living tissue from living corals, to coral breakage in which massive coral heads as well as more delicate branching corals broke off.Under normal circumstances then, how long would it take the reef to recover from the damage of Cyclone Hamish? The answer is about a decade or so. Based on past experience with similar reefs, the researchers estimate that coral should recover in eight to 15 years, if there are no further major disturbances such as cyclones or coral bleaching or declines in water quality which might reduce the resilience of these reefs.Take a look at Bjorn Lomborg’s graph again. It’s now been 15 years and the Great Barrier Reef has fully recovered from Cyclone Hamish and is now setting records for coral cover. All the hysteria about the death of the Great Barrier Reef due to carbon and bleaching was a massive lie in support of the climate hoax. Just like forests naturally recovering from wildfires, coral reefs naturally recover from hurricane scouring, and CO2 has nothing to with either. But the propaganda press is unrelenting in its doomsday environmental prognostications. Despite the Great Barrier Reef currently being at a record level of coral coverage, and despite the reef defying decades of predictions of its demise, the NY Times ran yet another story about the death of the Great Barrier Reef just last week. ++++ Literally since a child. An actual child, in elementary school, in the early 90s. It wasn't "climate change" then, but it was the same damn thing. "Pollution means coral reefs are dying." "Ships chop up cute dolphins with their nasty screws." "Rainforests are vanishing! The cure for cancer could be in those rainforests!" "Acid rain is slowly killing everyone!" On and on and on and on. Different framing, but same shit. Yet reefs are doing just fine. The rainforest is doing just fine. ++++ Not to mention that punctuated equilibrium is a thing. It's in plain evidence all over the fossil record and in ice cores. Long periods of relative stability - a couple of percent here and there, but basically a flat line - followed by great eruptions of change like mass die-offs or massive spurts of new things happening. Big systemic things are largely stable until you hit a jackpot, then everything changes pretty quickly and re-stabilizes until the next jackpot. That jackpot can be good or bad. But things in nature aren't usually slow, predictable, grinding progress. They bounce around until the big one resets things. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at August 12, 2024 11:07 AM (HnUIn) 27

There was a whale oil quota. The quota increased over time because more is better. There was no use for the whale oil, but the quota was there. Since there was no use for the oil, the quota for whale oil was reduced but the quota for whales was not. Soviet fishing vessels would regularly cull entire pods of whales and then dump the corpses back into the sea to keep their numbers good for the commissar. The world appears to like general stability (within a band of variance, of course) right up until it doesn't, all at once. It may be akin to the rolling stock problem railroads deal with. Little inefficiencies build up over time until eventually, you have to eat the cost and run empty trains to redistribute stranded rolling stock. All those little marginal problems and inefficiencies *eventually* have to be dealt with, one way or another. Of course, the real problem is that it's hard to detect huge moves at the very beginning. But the glaciers--giant chunks of ice that destroy all life--are melting!
that one is one of the stupidest to me. We've been maybe measuring glaciers for, what, a few decades? Not even a measurable amount of time on a geological scale. And the hysteria is even worse when we know, absolutely know, that glaciers can grow fast enough that we've found tools placed with care in obvious anticipation of return in the spring exposed centuries later when the snow finally melts. But what I hate the most about the climate cultists is this: Hundreds of millions of people live along the equator, the hottest parts of the Earth. But the colder it gets, the less people live there. Global warming will never be a problem. But, almost all life goes extinct in global cooling. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at August 12, 2024 11:20 AM (l3206) 102

Over 60 industry and government groups have sent a letter to the governor and state government that their 'by 2035-2045' all use of fossil fuels must cease to save us all from dying. They say the state has no plans to increase the output of electricity, just shut down what they have. And upgrade the grid, which isn't even on the agenda. Greetings. Here is what is puzzling me.
I have this mini-PC (pixy recommended) I run during the day. At night I disconnect the wifi and power it off and then also power off the surge protector thingy. So it is powered off x 2. I get up in the morning, power it up, and before I log on to wifi, I have widgets that tell me the temperature outside, the stock market tallies, the local traffic conditions, etc. Before I log on to the internet. Things that make me go "hmm". Posted by: gourmand du jour at August 12, 2024 11:29 AM (MeG8a) 151

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, riding the anarchy train with John Landis at August 12, 2024 11:24 AM (GBKbO) ____ I think what's happened is that historically we didn't track or name hurricanes that were so far out in the ocean they had little to no chance of making landfall. Maritime interests obviously tracked them, but mainstream news and meteorological interests didn't bother. But now we do name these storms -- even though they have almost no chance of hitting land -- because we want to intentionally juice up the number of storms every year. Plus, storms are generally much stronger over water than land. So screeching about C5 and C4 storms 2500 miles away makes for better hysteria. That is, not one, not one single one (except to the 3rd or 4th derivation; essentially zero change) accurately predicted today's temps. Instead, every year, they come out with a new model like a shitty car manufacturer, except they are advertising to government grants. But, it's only going to get worse. This is the last thing his candidacy needs right now, and I wouldn’t want to be a ketchup bottle at Mar-a-Lago tonight. If J.D. wants to put on makeup and wear a dress, I say let him. There’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s going to be a hard sell when he tries to say that other men who do the same are somehow a threat. He better not have been reading stories to children!! This isn't drag. I live in SF. To me, drag is much more than a guy putting on women’s clothes; there’s a lot more effort and creativity that goes into drag. Drag queens are fun; I wouldn’t talk to this guy even if he was standing right next to the keg. A friend of mine would dress as a woman every Halloween. A few years later, she transitioned. Other places' near-raw or steaming or unseasoned or other techniques might not have the ability to make food taste particularly good and the tendencies could probably be adjusted accordingly. Yes; I bet all the people planning on voting for Vance are horrified!!! to learn men in college (is this from college or grad school?) sometimes dress up as women. This is a known thing at Princeton, for instance, and it's been going on probably since the 1920's when they didn't think men and women could change their gender. if they weren't already dead (?) maybe we could arrest the male actors in "Some Like It Hot" too Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 12, 2024 11:59 AM (dTTBf) 299

Posted by: Thomas Bender at August 12, 2024 11:59 AM (XV/Pl) ======= If I remember, the connection is that CO2 leads to increased water vapor which increases temperature. Except no one can prove the causal relationship from CO2 to water vapor. Also, any volcano eruption puts out more water vapor in a day than the world's industry is supposed to increase through CO2 in a decade. 150 - When you say "you disconnect the wifi", if all you're doing is removing the antenna from the mini-PC, then you're not actually disconnecting the wifi. It can still pick up signals, even without the antenna attached albeit with less signal strength. That's probably why everything is connecting to the internet when you start up the computer.
The only sure-fire way is to actually disabling the computer from connecting to the internet automatically on that connection (there should be a checkbox when you pull up the list of connections in Windows from the Task Bar), or turning off your router.
