Tim Walz Quit the National Guard and Abandoned His Unit When They Got the Call-Up to Deploy to Iraq in 2005

On a 150-year-old farm in Brewster, Tom Behrends hopes his tell-it-like-it-is style will finally get the attention he believes it deserves in Minnesota's race for governor. "The public needs to know how pathetic his leadership was as a National Guardsman," Behrends said about Gov. Tim Walz. He's back again to wage a public war of words against Walz. This is what his grain bin looked like in the 2018 election: "He abandoned us. What the hell kind of leader does that? As soon as the shots were fired in Iraq, he turned and ran the other way and hung his hat up and quit," Behrends said. This all starts years ago, when Behrends says Walz's misleading statements about his military service first led him to come forward in the fall of 2018. The story was largely ignored and Minnesota's largest newspaper, the Star Tribune, checked it out but decided not to publish, according to Behrends. "When the reporter called, I thought, 'What the hell, is this North Korea?'" Behrends recalled. Alpha News reached out to the Star Tribune but didn't receive a response. The backstory Back in early 2005, a warning order went out to southern Minnesota's First Battalion-125th Field Artillery to mobilize for a mission to Iraq, Behrends said. Walz served as the unit's highest non-commissioned officer after he was conditionally promoted to command sergeant major on April 1, 2005, records show. On May 16, Walz retired from the guard, avoided the deployment, and ran for Congress. Walz has implied in previous statements that he didn't retire because of the deployment, but National Guard records show his service obligation wasn't complete until September 2007. Behrends was next in line for the position and was asked to take his place. "I was like well, for Pete's sake, if this guy quits, if I say I'm not going to do it, I mean, what the hell kind of leadership is that?" Behrends recalled. "If a company would say we're going to deploy to Iraq and the foreman says, 'I'm not going,' what does that say to the 500 that work in that factory?" Command Sergeant Major Behrends went on to serve in Iraq on a nearly two-year deployment, all while Walz began using that very title as a congressman. Behrends said he contacted Walz with his concerns before raising the issue publicly, sending letters to Washington in 2016. The letters all went unanswered, Behrends said. Behrends again tried to draw attention to the story in 2018 when Congressman Walz announced his run for governor. "It kind of just sat there, you know, when he was a congressman. He bragged that he was a retired command sergeant major and the highest-ranking person ever in the House," Behrends recalled. "Then, the state of Minnesota came out after 2018 after this was exposed and they said, 'Well, he can say that he served as a command sergeant major, but he can't say he's a retired one because he's not,'" he added. "He was saying that and there were campaign letters coming in the mail saying that. They said, right on there, he's a retired command sergeant major. Just tooting his own horn, hanging on the coattails of people that actually are command sergeant majors that went through all the process and put all the time in," Behrends said. A spokesperson for the Minnesota National Guard previously said Walz wasn't able to retire as a command sergeant major since he failed to complete coursework and other requirements related to the rank. Documents show the Army corrected Walz's service record. He was reduced in rank to an E-8 master sergeant after retirement. "It's stolen valor is really what it is. I don't know of anybody else that's done what he's done," Behrends said.

I work my tail off every day. I eat right. I did a complete 180 a few years ago because being healthy seemed like a good way to go through life, and unhealthy meant sore joints and short breath. Still think that the market has reached a peak as those very fundamentals are softening and a huge bubble in tech over AI is likely to deflate. Ordinary recessions do a number of business investment and that is likely to hit AI suppliers like Nvidia pretty hard in the profit category. Intel already has problems and Apple is softening due to its appeal in China and other places. China is essentially turning away from Apple and to domestic suppliers on their phones which is the main profitable tentpole for the brand.

I have this strange feeling that I haven't felt in so long. It is pure unadulterated joy! I was a reluctant Harris supporter but have been pleasantly surprised at how she has evolved into this role.
It really feels good to be joyful. I'm sure we've got hard times and fights ahead -- but I'm feeling good about Harris/Walz and it's such a contrast to the fear and hatred of the Felon/Weird Uncle. My favorite Tim Walz fact is that he named a highway after Prince and signed the bill in purple ink.

I read somewhere that some pollsters purposely made Reagan's CA numbers look close and they put a lot of time and effort into making sure CA was fortified. He ended up winning by like 16%.

A big (area) part of Minnesota is really nice, with a lot of nice people. Hard working farmers, etc. Scandinavian, Germanic ancestry; Protestants. Lutherans.

They know they were exposed last time, they know the opposition is restless. Pass awareness along at every opportunity - a casual/off hand statement in the checkout line, - take advantage of every opportunity to plant a seed.
A minimum of 33% of voters are devout opposition. That's something like every third person in the checkout line or wherever you are.

I feel like it's the exact opposite. His ghostwritten autobiographies were coldly calculated. Things like minor drug use and eating dog meat are outside of the norm, sure, but they aren't outrageously objectionable enough to sink political prospects.
Those tidbits do help provide the impression of a person who has had a lot of varied experiences in life, which tied directly into their campaign image of Obama being a sophisticated, cosmopolitan, "citizen of the world".

Its a crap ton of online classes, you have to find a CSM local to you to present oral reports to, you have papers to write...and you have 2 years to get it done followed by 2 weeks of active classes at Ft Bliss.
This guy's provisional appointment to CSM was predicated on his promise to complete that course...I think they gave me 3 years to get enrolled and get done.
So this chump...by the timeline, it looks like he made the recommended promotion list and was provisionally promoted to E9/SGM before he was even enrolled. Then he was laterally promoted to E9/CSM. CSM is more prestigious than plain ol' SGM like me but still, as a retired SGM, I am still treated as a dignitary whenever I visit military bases and they will put me up in the Distinguished Visitors quarters.
So i don't know how they had to "correct his record" of retirement. We have a certain service obligation after completing the Sergeants Major Academy but he didn't even get enrolled in the class is my guess.
He wanted the title, prestige, and benefit but not the work or the job. I really hate guys like this.
