No One Wants to be Kumala's Running Mate

Hello everyone. I hope you're having a Humpday and not a Slumpday.

Do Democrats think Kumala can win? Based on their refusal to run as her running mate, it looks like they see her as a failure and are already pre-distancing themselves from her coming humiliation.

Kamala Harris's search for a running mate has hit yet another snag. Previously, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) took herself out of consideration, and two others have followed suit since dirt dug up on them made them a lot less likely to be picked. Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.) has been accused of covering up sexual harassment in his office, and then Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) has been exposed as the co-founder of a spy balloon company that was partially funded by China. This may not preclude Kamala from selecting either, but it likely hurts both of their chances.

Now, another top contender has taken his name out of consideration: Gov. Roy Cooper (D-N.C.).

According to the New York Times, Cooper "has informed [Harris's] team that he has withdrawn from the vice-presidential sweepstakes, according to two people briefed on the matter."

"I strongly support Vice President Harris' campaign for President," Cooper said in a statement. "I know she's going to win and I was honored to be considered for this role. This just wasn't the right time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on a national ticket.

Cooper technically had everything Kamala Harris needed in a running mate. He's won two governor's races in the state at the same time Trump won them in presidential races. And as far as his political career is concerned, it would make sense for him to join the ticket, as he's term-limited from seeking the governorship again.

So, what's going on? According to NBC News, Cooper intends to run for the U.S. Senate in 2026.

Matt Margolis thinks this is nonsense. Cooper is 69 years old. He'd rather be a Senator than a Vice President? Naah. He just knows he won't be Vice President because Kumala will lose.

Democrats are now committed to Kumala. Well, almost. No competitors have announced themselves or qualified to challenge her at the pre-convention virtual nomination.

Vice President Kamala Harris became the sole Democratic nominee for president on Tuesday night, after the deadline to challenge her nomination passed without any qualified candidates.

The Democratic National Committee confirmed that the virtual roll call will begin on Thursday, meaning that Harris is the only person that qualified for the ballot. The committee announced that the roll call would take place on Aug. 1 if Harris was alone, or Aug. 3 if other candidates challenged her. All delegates will now need to finish voting by Aug. 5, according to Politico. Harris has already unofficially secured the support from 3,923 delegates.

So they're really doing this.

Privately, Democrats confess they have no confidence in this cackling imbecile.

Behind the public jubilation over Vice President Harris's swift rise to become their party's likely nominee for president, Democratic lawmakers are privately anxious about her prospects of defeating former President Trump," reports The Hill. According to their report, there is concern about how she is "largely untested as a candidate and faces serious challenges."

[C]oncerns are already bubbling up over Harris's ability to connect as well as Biden did in 2020 with white working-class and union voters in three states that were critical to defeating Trump: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

"She wasn't a great candidate," one Democratic senator said of Harris's performance as a presidential candidate in 2020, when she pulled out of Democratic primary before the Iowa caucuses.

"And she may not be as a political campaigner as good as Biden was in his prime," the senator added.

35 There's still time for the donors to get cold feet and either coalesce around someone else or break up into infighting over several someone elses.

If the polls had any real value, they'd tell the story, but they don't. The secret/proprietary polls the campaigns use might be, though.

45 Shapiro.

To quote Commentary magazine:

The New Republic says Shapiro’s the one pick who would “fracture” the Democrats’ newfound unity and kill the good vibes they’ve been enjoying since Harris’s anointing. The Democratic Socialists of America warn he’s “not the right man for this job” because he’s “an outspoken supporter of the Zionist project in Palestine.” A staffer for Democratic Rep. Summer Lee—of Shapiro’s home state of Pennsylvania—is one of the organizers of a new online campaign to stop Shapiro’s selection as veep, titled “No Genocide Josh.”
---
Michael Moore claims picking Shapiro is one of the very few ways Harris can lose this election because it could cost her his home state of Michigan. “Shapiro said it’s ‘antisemitic’ for anyone to join the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel in order to convince them to stop their apartheid behavior,” the agitprop director wrote yesterday. “He also cruelly compared peaceful college students to the Ku Klux Klan because they were calling for an end to the slaughter in Gaza. Actions like these will diminish the Arab American vote for Harris and depress a large swath of the youth vote

LOL.

She has a ton of momentum! Really love seeing this and love seeing the state polls that are coming out.

Looking at the 65+ numbers, Democrats need to talk more about Social Security. Trump wants to deny them Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, disability. He has a record of a 'let them die' attitide. That needs to be drilled home!

We need the young, the younger, and the women to get out and vote. Up thread is spot on in that the dems need to talk social security and who will defend it. The 2025 project calls for cutting it.

Trends are good but still too close. This poll is certainly missing new young voters which could be huge this Nov. I think Kam is going to win big.

Biden was maddening, but when he was still lucid he had the gift, propped up by the media, of talking a lot of blarney, of SOUNDING poor or hardscrabble or up from his bootstraps, to appeal to certain demographics.

Kamala has none of these gifts; her southern Obama-speak the other day failed and was cringe. She did not have to build these kinds of political skills to rise in the ranks, and she was too lazy to develop them later on. And she's not connecting with folks. Oil and water. King Roy Cooper is far more palatable to that vanishing species of voters known as "Left-of-center" Dems. He's been kept under tight rein by veto-proof majorities in the General Assembly and the state senate. Kamala is going to push gun-control and San Francisco-approved social policies hard. If Cooper joined the ticket as the VP nominee and Harris loses, Cooper's future in NC politics would be toast.

The awful performance of teh Biden admin can also be counted upon to diminish the solidarity and enthusiasm of the Orangeman Bad cabal responsible for the 2020 abomination as well as not being able to effectively carry out lockdown panic as there was in 2020 which led to circumvention of all sorts of laws regarding absentee ballots.

Problem there is Vance will probably have an LBJ size landslide as a result for sympathy. The chance to substitute Nikki at the top of the ticket by the remaining McConnell GOPe faction is gone now.

Time is running out for the typical dirty tricks due to Biden's delay in leaving the race. The usual way is to introduce the candidate via fawning media coverage throughout the primary season and then pivot to the attack during the convention. Now, Kamala has to introduce herself to the Dems and the American public in a much truncated fashion while she has a record long enough to be pummelled in swing state ads by the GOP to define her as incompetent, extreme left, and looney.

We are within 100 days of the election (98 mebbe). The convention coronation isn't until mid August which is historically very late. Labor Day generally marks the pivot to the attack ads and GOTV as election season starts. That very thing also makes the late October hits harder to generate much as earlier and earlier voting creates some issues with that strategy.

Hard to make that work when he did not do it before. Basically Trump is a known quantity and it is really much harder to define as such as a blank slate like Obama was in 2008.

The downside is that Trump has people including in his own party that hate his guts and Trump raising the dead, wiping out the federal debt, and making world peace happen would still leave them saying Orangeman bad.

The commercial depicts a father using Google’s AI model, Gemini, to help his daughter write a fan letter to Olympic athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

The premise of the advertisement has raised concerns among viewers and experts alike. In the commercial, a father, who claims to be “pretty good with words,” turns to AI to compose a heartfelt message from his daughter to her sports idol. This decision has been met with criticism, as many argue that such personal expressions should involve human creativity, especially in parent-child relationships.

The problem for Dems is that might very well end Act Blue. Miyares, AG of Virginia, is already investigating them for straw donors due to one spectacular example in VA. Other Red State AGs are likely to follow and the Feds can do nothing if the states prosecute and sue Act Blue for enabling online fraud.

Easy fruit there by relying on state anti fraud laws to go after Act Blue on behalf of their residents which also forces massive legal costs and discovery issues for the Dems.

Foreign money buying Dem elections is likely to even repulse most of their own voters other than the hardcore types. Same as illegals voting.

Makes it very unlikely because most state ballots are set in stone by mid to late September and the whiplash by substituting a third candidate at this late stage is likely to cause implosion of the party due to its component groups fighting among each other.

IMHO, Killary is unlikely to be that person btw simply because the party movers and shakers have moved on. Possibly Mooch would be the only real choice at a very late stage of the convention and she would be no sure thing either.

It takes a long time to build a campaign around a personality and the muddled messaging that Kamala is suffering right now with weird, etc. is a sign of the problems of switching from Biden to Kamala messaging.

This is not the old convention style politics but a much more involved and sophisticated operation than the old smoke filled rooms. Plus, straight party ballots are mostly a thing of the past in most states which was in play during the old convention system of nominees.

The politics for governor and the politics for national seats at the statewide level (like senator or presidential candidates) vastly change the second a candidate announces. 503 “We spend our days looking for, investing in and supporting entrepreneurs who are building the future. We are pro-business, pro-American dream, pro-entrepreneurship, and pro-technological progress,” the investors write in a statement on their site, VCs for Kamala. “We also believe in democracy as the backbone of our nation. We believe that strong, trustworthy institutions are a feature, not a bug, and that our industry - and every other industry - would collapse without them. That is what’s at stake in this election. Everything else, we can solve through constructive dialogue with political leaders and institutions willing to talk to us.”
