The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Perhaps there are a few people who see Donald Trump as a newly sympathetic figure because of Saturday's unsuccessful assassination attempt, but I'll bet the vast majority have their preconceived notions confirmed. Either they are impressed anew at his pugnaciousness and fearlessness in the face of unrelenting attacks, or they see him as a self-promoting blowhard who took advantage (or created) of an almost unique situation.

Neither one of these groups will change their opinions. What I think will happen is that the latter group will be disheartened by his survival, disappointed by his ability to rise to the occasion, and will continue their fight against him, but in a halfhearted and perfunctory manner. The first group will be heartened by his fight, will be angered by the vile and disgusting vitriol emanating from the dark (and not so dark) corners of the left, and will be energized to support Donald Trump....and to vote for him on November 5th.

Will this be enough of a damper on leftist zeal to ruin their effort to get rid of what they hilariously claim as a threat to "democracy?" Will this injection of electoral zeal be enough to make the margin too big for the steal that is undoubtedly being organized?

I think it will be. Much of America will not be pleased by the undercurrent of nastiness about the attempt on Donald Trump's life. Some of them might be lifelong Democrats who wouldn't dream of voting for a Republican, but they also don't like when their side cheerleads for murder. And they certainly will be pleased...secretly or otherwise...by Donald Trump's toughness and unrelenting optimism in the face of a brush with death. They might vote for Joe Biden, but they will have a grudging respect for Trump, and that will work to defuse some of the over-the-top election tactics by the Democrat machine.

And what about Donald Trump's supporters! They will double down on their support for him, and will see the assassination as a cold and calculated culmination of years of dehumanization of Trump and his supporters by the progressive machine. It will push more of them to the polls, because the violence has made it even more clear what the left is willing to do!

Am I romanticizing my view of an America that might very well no longer exist?

Probably.

But I could have concluded the same thing with a much more Machiavellian take on the events and the responses from the two sides.

It is however not debatable that there is a huge enthusiasm gap that has just widened. Take a walk this afternoon and ask around. How much excitement will you detect among Democrats? In fact, aside from the drooling idiots on the internet, can you find anyone who is enthusiastic about a Biden election victory?

And perhaps most important, the contrast between the two candidates has been illuminated. Joe Biden is decrepit, feeble, stumbles over words, does not (and perhaps never could) handle challenge without anger, and exudes weakness. Donald Trump exudes strength, power, and vitality in a way that communicates his resolve.

The end result will be an improvement in Donald Trump's chances for return to the White House, and frankly, I don't care why it happens.

I noted this on the Morning Report:

My area is heavily Republican, but my specific town is not. It's Republican with a firm majority, but more Dem concentration than in the rest of the nearby counties. It's a Republican-favoring mix here.

So the signs reflect that. Local city council races, school board, county commissions, state reps, etc. have a mix of signs up around town in front yards.

But I don't see a single Biden sign anywhere. Not one. Trump signs and flags and bumper stickers are a common sight, but no Biden paraphernalia. Zero. Even houses displaying signs for Dem candidates don't have one up for Biden.

Around here, anyway, even his voters - and I am sure that most of them *will* pull the lever for Biden - can't bring themselves to put up signs for him.

And that ain't new since the assassination attempt, that's been the case all season. There is no enthusiasm for Biden around where I live.

Absent fraud, Trump probably wins this in a walkover. If the Party wants to let nature take its course, Trump is going to win. If the Party does not want Trump to win, they will steal it. We're post-law and post-"optics" now.

But there are a lot of upshots for the Party if it just steps back and lets Trump win. I think they might do it.

As with the Right, the Left is not a monolith but a continuum. People establish their political identity and, for most, never question it. They just don't pay enough attention and so are easily carried along with mindless platitudes. Some of these people will be shocked by the disgusting vitriol of the Left.

For some of those, it will be enough to cause them to re-examine their beliefs. For others, it will be a chip in the barrier which shields them from opposing opinion. Perhaps annoyance at the constant protesters, or disbelief at the willingness to call for the death of Jews, or who knows what, will be the things which finally breaks a window in that barrier.

Trump has never been a radical. He was never likely to become a radical. He is a spotlight. A mask remover. A speedbump. He gives time and opportunity for those who can be reached to see, and recognize, the truth. And some will join us.

Holding to honor and righteousness is never the easy side.

Most people - and parties - don't do this well. It isn't in the DNA of American politics. You don't vote *for* someone, you vote *against* the other guy.

There are exceptions to this (I think Trump is one, he mixes a "why you should vote for me" case in with the "this is why the other guy sucks" case), but they're fairly rare.

American politicians don't sell themselves as a benefit, they sell themselves as an antidote to the poison that is the Other Guy.

What if the D's reverse the steal? That is, pump out millions of fake ballots for Trump? We know they can do this for Biden or anyone else. Thank you. My opinion NV and PA are too corrupt to go Trump. PA only conceded in 2016 because it was over. They sat on the result for hours and I think we're ready to pull the rug out if needed.

AZ was stolen in 2022 to make sure they have control of the election apparatus there, also not a good sign. We know what happened in GA but let's assume for fun that is cleaned up.

WI and MI just had court decisions that lean heavily into the fraud machine which is why I bring all of this up. I am more than worried.

Stock markets have been very happy for months. Multiple record closes. I have three related theories:

1. The market secretly likes Trump because he will be better for business. Certainly he will be more stable and markets like stability. The more it looks like Trump will win, the happier the markets will (secretly) be.

2. The worse it looks for Biden, the higher the chances of a rate cut. Markets love rate cuts.

3. I know this might be controversial, but I have long said that the equity markets are generally strong, with good fundamentals, and not unreasonably high PE. However tough the economy may be for normal people, it's doing great for elites and investors.

My guess is that it's highly classified intel, they don't want to reveal the capability, and the optics would have been bad. Trump's military claims that they have proof positive of the election steal? That would be easy to attack.

Trump's last SecDef had an interesting thing to say in an interview in recent weeks. He said the full story of J6 has not been revealed, and that he was naive about our elected officials.

To me, that says that top members of Congress were TOLD about the election being stolen (because the military would be obligated to tell them, right?), with heavy involvement from hostile foreign powers, but STILL refused to act.

The issue is that the GOP was gleefully allowed to be taken over by "Reagan Democrats" who were really just, you know, Democrats who didn't like Communism in the final days of the Soviet Union.

That ceding of control hobbled the GOP for decades, and we're finally just pulling ourselves out of it.

Some are pointing out that it's obvious that the shooter had help from somebody dirty within the security detail. Somebody looked the other way.

Note that the security detail was a bunch of temps, replacing the usual ones. One excuse was that they were exhausted and taking a rest (sounds like BS). The other excuse is that they were pulled of for Jill Biden's event in Pittsburgh.

So they send Jill to Pgh, so that they have an excuse to compromise the security team, then deploy some jerky Antifa kid they've been grooming to go take the shot. Somebody too young and stupid to realize he's committing suicide, even if he succeeds.

The kid may not have even known the real world identity of whoever the handler was who deployed him.

The danger of that is twofold.

The first is downballot. Huge wins for Republicans from the Senate down to city councils across the nation is not good for Democrats.

The second is that the newest generation of Republicans are much more focused on things like election integrity. Republicans start gaining control of state houses across the nation and passing legislation to tighten up voting, clear voter rolls, and maybe even add teeth to existing laws, and you've just bred a massive problem for the Democrat Party as a whole for a generation.

Like it or not, perception and optics are very important. The Left incessantly bashes the Republican Party as being the party for older white men...and in general, when cameras sweep across Republican crowds, that's what you see. Trump is trying to expand the base, and that includes making it seem acceptable to be a minority or female.

My daughter wanted to try martial arts. I took her to a few MMA, muay thai and BJJ places. They had great facilities, great training...but she was put off by all of them because the classes were 95% young men. If I were a young man in a class of 95% young women, it would be amazing, but for her...it was intimidating and unwelcoming. I don't understand it, but I acknowledge it's real and has an impact.

Or at least there were enough hostile forces to keep the GOP bickering amongst themselves while the Democraps laughed all the way to the bank. I think it came mostly later. The 90s did give us Newt and the Contract. I think the real decline started under W and especially his second term. It coincided the the stratospheric rise of the Deep State.

Its a lot more complicated. Reagan won almost all the major policy victories he was elected to beat. He beat inflation, supply side won out, taxes were lowered, he beat the Soviet Union, he brought pride back to America. Those were things that needed to be done in the period from 1976-1988. The GOP that followed was not capable of moving things forward in the peace years that followed. Reagan did not have a Boomer who could take over. These things happen. Unfortunately, by the end of his second term his personal influence was done.

I was, and a few were saying that, and I did what I could to shut them down by pointing out that the old call for a ban was perfectly appropriate when everyone believed SCOTUS would do nothing. But after Dobbs, the legal landscape has changed completely and the state by state approach called for by Dobbs is the constitutional and appropriate way to approach the issue. As such, it is no longer appropriate to call for nationwide action.

My point is that the Democrats that Reagan brought into the party, that worked their way up and took control of the party, established that prevent defense.

In fairness to them, they see this kind of argument as free advice from people who don't hold their beliefs. And it's hard to fault them for this, because the GOP does want to run away from this issue as fast as it can. The advice for them to have perspective sounds a lot like Kasich arguing in the early 2000s that the GOP needed to stop raising icky cultural issues.

Trump has done more for the prolife movement than any president ever. That should be enough for us to take the ball and run with it ourselves. Change hearts and minds on a local level. Elect local politicians who will back and protect prolife pregnancy centers. Nothing more. We waited 50 years for RvW to go away, we can play the grassroots ground game to change minds so that we keep winning.

They are losing fights at the state level in large part because the anti-abortion movement was very wide but not deep. They are suddenly finding that a significant portion of their allies were supportive of overturning RvW and sending the issue to the states, but not supportive of outright bans.

I've long said that outright bans are political poison. You will never ever get a majority -- or even close to a majority -- to support them. Certain factions of the GOP immediately calling for them was one of the biggest "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" in recent history.

I think you can actually make a case for a federal ban that is Constitutional. Doesn't mean it is politically tenable. Eliminating Roe changed the battle field significantly. It was maybe Trump's greatest victory. But it is along battle and the pro-life side comprised of people like me who want to see less abortions need to figure out how to make the case.

425 Its a lot more complicated. Reagan won almost all the major policy victories he was elected to beat. He beat inflation, supply side won out, taxes were lowered, he beat the Soviet Union, he brought pride back to America. Those were things that needed to be done in the period from 1976-1988. The GOP that followed was not capable of moving things forward in the peace years that followed. Reagan did not have a Boomer who could take over. These things happen. Unfortunately, by the end of his second term his personal influence was done.

Reagan handed off the Bush, who had literally been the head of the CIA. "W" would come to call Bill Clinton his "brother from another mother" after he left office, and started painting (a known money laundering practice).

Bush Sr was in TX when JFK was shot, and entered politics shortly thereafter. Within a few years he was head of the RNC, and in other high posts, including CIA head. Some people make something of that.

It's not complicated at all. The Republican party simply went back to being controlled by the Deep State and its puppet masters after Reagan retired.
