At 26 years old, Marianne North visited Kew with her father on a trip that was to inspire her life-long fascination with far-flung plants and flowers.
After his death, she set off on a series of trips to some of the world’s most remote jungles and forests. Next As a wealthy, unmarried woman, North travelled to areas that the 'establishment' thought she should not visit – from Borneo to Japan, South Africa to South America. Her journeys became one of the most reported subjects in the British newspapers of the period. Despite having no formal training, North’s talent gained the admiration of notable scientists, including Charles Darwin. After thirteen years of travel, North had an idea – to exhibit the paintings in the Gardens where her passion began. In 1879, she offered to build a gallery here if Kew Director Joseph Hooker would agree to display her life’s work. The gallery was completed in 1882 and is open to explore her legacy today. In 2018, a study of aerial photos of 700 Pacific Islands showed that 89% were the same size or growing. This rather destroyed the idea that sea levels were swallowing small nations. The New York Times said nothing. Indeed, the only Pacific things shrinking were deserted sand drifts. No islands bigger than 10 hectares were getting smaller. Measured in square kilometers that’s “0.1”. Despite the media headlines and delegations from Kiribati and Tuvulu begging for money to hold back the tide, no islands with people living on them were shrinking. None, not one island in the Pacific big enough to matter, was disappearing.

Sotomayor, Kagan & Jackson biotchslap
The Board and the dissent vastly overread—in fact, they misread—Crown Coat. The Court did not suggest that the same words “right of action first accrues” in a single statute should mean different things in different contexts—which is how the Board and the dissent would have us interpret §2401(a). Rather, the Court made its observation in the course of distinguishing §2401(a) from a statutory scheme that departed from the traditional accrual rule.7 386 U. S., at 516–517. Moreover, as we have already explained, the Court interpreted §2401(a)—the very statute at issue in this case—to start the clock when the plaintiff is “legally entitled” to file suit. Id., at 515. It also specifically rejected the Government’s position that the time can run even before a plaintiff ’s “civil action against the United States matures.” They argued the clock starts...NOW. But wait, what races are we running and where is the racetrack. Posted by: rhennigantx at July 01, 2024 10:19 AM (ENQN6) 168

I have racked my brain to explain Biden's low approval ratings and came to a conclusion. Even in a country as deluded by social media babble as this one, you simply couldn't get an economy humming this well and be this unpopular. It just isn't possible. My conclusion is that polling is critically flawed.
The economy, as a whole, is not the basis on which people living paycheck to paycheck make their decisions. Paychecks have not gone up as quickly as groceries and rent. When people's paychecks aren't covering the bills anymore, how healthy the stock market is for other people's money is just not relevant. We have to find a way to address that reality - rather than acting puzzled that people who aren't making ends meet can't see the bigger picture. This economy is historically good. Carter is the only incumbent to lose with positive GDP growth. Too many citizens are helping to make these polling results with a lack of accurate information or knowledge of about how the economy works. Basically, in America, if you don't like something, "blame the President!" Posted by: Intercepted DU Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at July 01, 2024 10:34 AM (JCZqz) 231

The core constitutional powers are things like appointing ambassadors and foreign governments.
The court explains that it does not need to decide in this case whether immunity for official acts is presumptive or absolute. The court in Part III of its opinion indicates that in this case "no court has thus far considered how" to distinguish between official and unofficial acts. Moreover, Roberts continues, "the lower courts rendered their decisions on a highly expedited basis" and "did not analyze the conduct alleged in the indictment to decide which of it should be categorized as official and which unofficial" -- and it wasn't briefed before the Supreme Court. So the Supreme Court isn't going to make that determination now. Instead, it will send the case back to the lower courts for further proceedings, although it does offer some guidance. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.
There are a number of quotes like this and they are all slightly wrong. The problem in this area is the large group of people who believe learning is "being told what to believe by experts" and that's it. You aren't allowed to question the experts because you aren't one. Who determines who the experts are? The other experts. This isn't learning and it certainly isn't science - it is dogma enforced by a clerisy. Posted by: 18-1 at July 01, 2024 10:48 AM (oZhjI) 295

----------- Funny, how the parties long ago abandoned the convention system for selecting a nominee in favor of the more "democratic" primary system, which isn't all that democratic. But it is still a bit more democractic than closed door cigar smoked rooms. I don't know which one is necessarily better, in today's age, probably the primary system as it does give the people more of a say. Five days ago, Latin America was shaken by what can only be described as one of the most incompetent attempts at a ‘coup d’état’ in history.
A few units of the Bolivian army, led by supposedlt rebelling Generals, converged upon the Presidential palace in La Paz and rammed their way in with an armored car, with the stated goal of deposing the controversial Socialist goon Luis Arce – only to receive no support from other army formations, and retreat in shame after just a few hours. Upon his arrest, the leader of the coup, General Commander of the Army Juan José Zúñiga, declared that all the fuss was actually a fake plot led by Arce himself, in an attempt to boost his popularity with the Bolivian people. .. the demand for coups far outstrips the availability of coups Posted by: SMOD at July 01, 2024 10:57 AM (RHGPo) 338

These prosecutors who all have immunity screeching about the president is ridiculous. Oh, and Sotomayor is an imbecile.

We haven't reached the crescendo of screeching.

Upon his arrest, the leader of the coup, General Commander of the Army Juan José Zúñiga, declared that all the fuss was actually a fake plot led by Arce himself, in an attempt to boost his popularity with the Bolivian people.

According to Newsweek, CNN, AP, etc. At yesterday's family meeting at the WH, the Biden family urges Joe to remain in race with Hunter being especially adamant.
They want to drag Joe's skeleton around to keep the grift going. Of course the deep state's media will maintain that this is to fight for democracy against the evil orange man. Sick people. Posted by: Cheri at July 01, 2024 11:03 AM (oiNtH) 372
Jill hates Kamala because Kamala called Joe (correctly) a racist in a 2019 primary debate. No way Jill lets Kamala take the helm. So either Joe stays in all the way to the election or gets out only after he has officially been nominated, in which case the Party can pick who they want (not Kamala). Either way, it's another Democrat Party Shit Show.

The court indicates that the president's immunity for official acts "extends to the outer perimeter of the President's official responsibilities, covering actions so long as they are not manifestly or palpably beyond his authority."
So, a pretty broad brush there. Posted by: AshevilleRobert at July 01, 2024 11:04 AM (fv27Y) 375
Note that a VP has no such immunity and actions Joe took as a VP are fair game. Go get the big man.

184 I mean, I knew that Landis was most likely culpable (though the courts said not legally) for the deaths of three people on the set of the Twilight Zone movie, but holy crap...he seems insane. His son, Max, makes so much more sense now.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, obsessively pursuing evil with Friedkin at July 01, 2024 10:25 AM (GBKbO) Max used to post on a message board I used to read. He pretended to be his ex-girlfriend, and most of the shit he posted either made no sense, or was just "OMG, isn't Max Landis great?". Posted by: XTC at July 01, 2024 11:06 AM (UnA8+) 377
Justice Thomas writes a concurring opinion in which he questions the validity of Jack Smith's appointment as special counsel. "If this unprecedented prosecution is to proceed, it must be conducted by someone authorized to do so by the American people."
.. don't see those exact words in Justice Thomas' concurring opinion, but it is essentially what he said. More importantly, Justice Thomas maps out how Judge Cannon should review the appointment of Jack Smith .. invalid Posted by: SMOD at July 01, 2024 11:17 AM (RHGPo) 378
Wait .. hee it is on page 2 of the Thomas concurring opinion ...
No former President has faced criminal prosecution for his acts while in office in the more than 200 years since the founding of our country. And, that is so despite numerous past Presidents taking actions that many would argue con- stitute crimes. If this unprecedented prosecution is to pro- ceed, it must be conducted by someone duly authorized to do so by the American people. The lower courts should thus answer these essential questions concerning the Special Counsel’s appointment before proceeding. Posted by: SMOD at July 01, 2024 11:20 AM (RHGPo) 379

Hello there! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog.
Is it difficult to set up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I'm thinking about making my own but I'm not sure where to begin. Do you have any points or suggestions? With thanks Posted by: effects of coffee on weight loss at July 11, 2024 05:50 PM (ilt9r) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0733 seconds. |
