Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: The Climate Cult Officially Gives Up on “Maldives Being Submerged by Rising Seas” StorylineThen, not very long ago, researchers began sifting through aerial images and found something startling. They looked at a couple dozen islands first, then several hundred, and by now close to 1,000. They found that over the past few decades, the islands’ edges had wobbled this way and that, eroding here, building there. By and large, though, their area hadn’t shrunk. In some cases, it was the opposite: They grew. The seas rose, and the islands expanded with them.By the way, “the seas rose” by just a few centimeters over the past few decades, if NOAA can even be trusted to be honest about those measurements. But remember, we were promised in the 1980s and 1990s that seas would have risen several feet by now. OK, but back to the fact that the islands are now expanding, and the climate hustlers are in a bind because their nightmare scenario is not playing out as promised. Scientists have come to understand some but not all of the reasons for this. Which is why a team of them recently converged in the Maldives, on an island they’d spend weeks outfitting with instruments and sensors and cameras. Whatever was going on, it clearly wasn’t as simple as oceans rise, islands wash away.Yet we were told that a near-unanimous consensus of scientists agreed that the future was as simple as ”oceans rise, islands wash away.” In other words, “scientists” recommending de-carbonization as a cure for the “climate crisis” have acknowledged that they don’t understand what they’re currently talking about, and more importantly, that they NEVER knew what they were talking about. At best it was all a poorly reasoned hypothesis that served the interests of politicians and globalists pushing for command and control of all human activity. Stating authoritatively that these islands were about to drown when that was not a scientifically known truth proves it all to be a massive fraud. We were lied to, and they called it science. That makes me a proud “science denier” when it comes to this religio-cultist “science.” Rest assured, this being the NY Times, that this article still gets around to stating the need for leaders to come up with a solution to a climate problem that they can’t actually specify, other than that there are a growing number of inhabitants on the islands, and that people are an affront to nature. Therefore, they are still predicting an apocalyptic intersection of people and climate change at some future date in the Maldives, and therefore action of some sort must be taken. “They’ve got a bit of time, but they need to be thinking about it quickly,” Dr. Kench said. “To me, that’s the challenge: How do you coexist with the change that’s coming?”Finally, here is a quick look back at some of the awful propaganda and fear-mongering that has spread about the ocean reclaiming island nations. The Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported in 1988 about the Maldives that “A gradual rise in average sea level is threatening to completely cover this Indian Ocean nation of 1196 small islands within the next 30 years, according to authorities.” Not only were island nations about to be submerged, but the media made it clear that it was selfish westerners like you and me that were causing all this misery. “…the United States is the largest aggregate polluter of carbon dioxide. So why not hold the United States liable? Maybe climate change is the new nuclear testing. Slow moving, and less intentional. But just as threatening.”This is a despicable slander, based on a politically-influenced lie. But this is also the propaganda that your kids have been getting in their education, and that we all must suffer through with government and media. One more thing, now that the “scientific” prediction of island nations being submerged due to climate change has been officially retired, it should also be assumed that every other climate “fact” and prediction put forth by the climate cultists is as fraudulent as the Maldives story. Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. The “climate crisis” is a hoax that has reached its expiration date. [buck.throckmorton at protonmail dot com] Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

"Scientists have come to understand some but not all of the reasons for this."
"Scientists" are idiots then, because one thing I have enjoyed noting over the years is that at the same time that he published "Origin of Species", Charles Darwin also published a book about what he learned from his years long study of the South Sea Islands on board The Beagle. Climate Cultists have worked hard to deny that this book was ever written, because they don't dare attack Darwin openly. But in it, well over 150 years ago, Darwin made the point that the South Sea Islands would *always* adjust up or down to whatever current ocean levels are, because they Islands themselves are Living Coral, which is always modifying itself to meet currently prevailing conditions. So, we have known ever since the days of Charles Darwin that any claim that these islands would "disapear" is ridiculous nonsense; and we know the exact reason why. Having lived on the Outer Banks since 1988 and being a visitor/vacationer for decades before that, it is quite evident that sea level is stable here. Yes, a few dozen houses have been swallowed by the sea over the years, but what erodes in one place, builds up in another. A long nor'easter can swallow a lot of sand, but it will be deposited in another place nearby. The Feds spent millions moving Cape Hatteras Light inland a quarter mile, but the original foundation is still high and dry.

I've been frustrated with this when dealing with Civ VI's expansion "Gathering Storm." Long before you can unlock the tech that lets you build flood barriers, you have to deal with man-made "climate change" and rising sea levels flooding your coastal lowlands. Which is not how it worked in real life, as anyone who's heard of the Netherlands can tell you. But no one would have bought the expansion with these aggravating mechanics without the promise of new leaders, so they can now claim a propaganda victory.

The hole in the ozone layer was only discovered once our ozone measurements became sensitive enough to discern it so they pretended that it had never existed and just popped open one day because of hairspray! [Made up figures on my part because I don't recall the actual stats but when we could only detect, say, 1 part per billion, it looked like it covered the whole globe evenly; but when we could read parts per 100-billion, they learned it was very-much thinner around the Poles as I recall.]
Posted by: andycanuck (ZdexC) at July 01, 2024 11:23 AM (ZdexC) The ozone "layer" is created by UV from sunlight interacting with normal O2 oxygen in the atmosphere, splitting it into monatomic oxygen, which is very, very reactive. Some recombines immediately into O2 again, and some combines into O3, which is ozone, and it is very reactive. The ozone would rapidly deplete, were it not for the fact that it is continually being replenished by solar UV. When it's Winter at the poles, the solar input is much weaker, or absent, and the ozone depletes. And moreso at the South Pole, because southern winter occurs when Earth is further from the Sun in its slightly elliptical orbit. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 01, 2024 11:30 AM (KmEIw) 181

Just within the short time since hominids came down out of the trees, the earth's temperature has fluctuated many, many times. We've experienced ice ages, alternating with warm ages. One of the things that gave homo sapiens its immense gains in intelligence was figuring out just how to survive those huge temperature swings. I view it as overall positive because now the lower courts have to hear arguments and rule whether the act in question was official or not, and then there can be a year or two of appeals based only the question of whether they got that right or not. The gist of the dissent seems to be that they are pissed that the unwritten rule governing Democrap presidents -- they can do anything they want and never face any prosecution -- has been codified at least for official acts for GOP presidents as well. The Dumb Latina is so tone-deaf that her dissent reads like a parody. She’s worried about presidents selling pardons for bribes? Clinton did this openly, including with Marc Rich. He barely faced any criticism, let alone prosecution. She’s also worried about a president using Seal Team 6 against political rivals? Obama ordered the military to kill American citizens with drone strikes. And a drone operator complied and killed an American citizen. The Democraps cheered. 284 I'm not sure the SCOTUS immunity decision is the slam dunk some here seem to think.
--------------- It's a win. It is frankly a common sense win. Posted by: SH ======= Sovereign immunity comes from the British and can be summarized as the king can do no legal wrong. Like what Scotus did, the Brits eventually separated the king's official acts from private acts where justice against the king could be had for a king's bad private acts but not from a king's decision. In addition, under the British system circa Revolution times, the king was viewed as the source of all judicial power so that allowing inferior officers appointed by the king to judge the king's actions meant that the king could not be sovereign. So, that would imply that the king was not sovereign and thus the legal minds at the time refused to admit any liability for the king in his courts for official wrong doing. We adopted that system--starting with the states and then later the Fed gov where the people replaced the king as sovereign. Thus, the literally meaning of sovereign immunity in a republic is that the people can do no wrong and that extends to their representatives. Posted by: whig at July 01, 2024 12:23 PM (/0X3E) 472

I believe the actions of land and sea are largely determined by plate tectonics. Earth once had only a single land mass, Pangaea, and some scientists hypothesize that eventually all the continents will merge into a single mass again. So it's impossible to predict which islands or coastlines are going to disappear.

I think they're moving the goalposts, Buck. I wasn't told the islands would "wash away," I was told they would be submerged. The water would rise above them as the coal plants moved inexorably toward the Rockies, the Urals, and the Himalayas. But now they're talking "washing away"? Pfft.

Posted by: Tamaa the Drongo Bird at July 01, 2024 05:31 PM (wGqjj) 539
They have no idea how much the sea is rising. What they don't tell you is that, over the years, there have been a number of satellites put into orbit to measure see level. Several since I was a kid, Seasat, Topex then the Jason series, and every time they put a newer, more accurate satellite up they discovered that it was telling them that the sea wasn't rising as much as the previous system had told them.
To compound the problem they then take their faulty data and compile it with 'recorded sea levels' going back to the 1870s and so you get this wildly inaccurate but conveniently alarmist message that the sea level is rising very quickly.
