Hope that works out for you! Here's why I say "thousands of stores:" If they actually close one quarter of their stores, that's... well you can work out the calculations yourselves, I'm not your Math Bitch. Walgreens is the latest pharmacy chain to close locations over economic conditions. Walgreens competitors Rite Aid and CVS Pharmacy have closed dozens of locations since the start of the year. The closures follow Walgreens' decision to cut its full-year profit outlook this week, dropping its $3.20 profit per share estimate from March down to $2.80 per share. Thanks, George Soros! They opened another at the corner of Canal and Bourbon, and there's another in the Quarter proper only 2-3 blocks away. With this news, I suspect one or more of them will be gone soon.

Anyone mention that a few years back the corrupt commonwealth of Pennsylvania was flirting with privatizing its wine & liquor stores, with drug stores being the proposed alternative? One side effect was that the big drug store chains put a new store on every available corner in the state, in anticipation. The leeches in Harrisburg decided to keep the “state store” system in place. Thus PA has a huge surplus of underperforming chain drug stores. I think of this when I see such stories.

I continue to believe that, while theft and leftist-induced lunacy is partly to blame for this, the real reason that Walgreens and so many other similar retail businesses are closing is due mainly to two factors.
One, they drastically over-expanded to the point there's a pharmacy on every corner. They now have to "right size." And two, the brick and mortar pharmacies are facing increasingly competition from online stores, including Amazon pharmacy. Posted by: Elric Blade at June 27, 2024 02:27 PM (iFTx/) 139

I find the Read trail fascinating. I guess jury is still deliberating? I watched when I was off last Friday. The Judge gave the prosecution 1 hour for closing argument and Judge had to stop him as he was about to go over. Read had 400+ supporters outside the courthouse so when the jury returns with a verdict, should be quite the show. For me, I think that I would have enough reasonable doubt to not convict. I usually get my Rxs filled at the CVS in one of my Target stores. The people are sharp, and they know me by name now.
When I had shingles, I made the mistake of allowing the Urgent Care shop to phone the Rx they wrote me to the Walgreens near my house. Rude and difficult, even the staffer behind the pharmacy desk. Miss Arrogant told me they couldn't fill the Rx until the next day (!?). I went home and called the insurance company. They called the Walgreens. When they rang me back, they said, "We see what you mean about rude." I had the Rx sent to my usual CVS, and had no problem at all. "Brownian motion is the random motion of particles suspended in a medium. They're so greedy that they up prices, but that greed is causing them to close stores which means that they can sell less. Greed is a funny, amorphous thing to these people. One of the remarkable things about the way leftists work is that they never actually consider whatever their daily talking point is makes sense from the perspective of the enemy of the week. So if "greed" is the motivation stores will tune their prices to get the most return. If prices are so high people aren't going they'll lower them...again presuming that it is greed and not a response to market forces. Posted by: 18-1 at June 27, 2024 02:50 PM (oZhjI) 272

So many HUGE warehouses are going up, or have been recently finished, all along nearby routes & major access roads, to/from the cities. Why? Just a handful of years ago, smaller more centrally located warehouse operations couldn't get workers for their operations even despite decent pay and benefits.
I'm concerned that while the pharmacies were overbuilt, following the major drug lawsuit in part, they're going to rapidly diminish as the distribution of pharmaceuticals, OTC products, PPE, etc. will be under a much different kind of federal & state control. There's also ongoing port expansion, for example, in the Wilmington, DE area and also immediately outside of Philadelphia, for vehicles, goods/merchandise, chemicals, cattle, etc. v. natural gas. Therefore, the huge warehouses could be employed for just about anything including any number of supply and distribution services, growing food within controlled environments, etc. Something is up. We wait for the Safeway flier and grab whatever meat specials they advertise, if it interests us.
Our Safeway store is Randalls. They are more expensive if paying full price but their app is by far the easiest to use to find specials and then keep a list of them. HEB is generally less expensive but more expensive when deals are taken into account. And their method of knowing about special deals basically amounts to wander the store collecting colored paper. Technically they have an app for doing this ahead of time but it is annoying to use and doesnt work reliably anyway. Grocery store makework is why I used to go to Trader Joes over real grocery stores when one was nearby and would definitely use Aldis if one was nearby. ANTI-THEFT EXIT ARCHES
More than 30 years ago, I read an article (in a trade publication) stating commerce engineers had developed "arches" through which customers could push their shopping carts for the purpose of reading all the barcodes printed on the products' packaging ... The author of the article stated the technology wasn't brand new, but wasn't yet ready to be implemented in retail stores because the software wasn't as close to 100% accurate as the industry was demanding ... Well, no matter what the accuracy is these days, it looks like it's good enough for Sam's Club ... https://tinyurl.com/47rfp4a2 Posted by: Kathy at June 27, 2024 03:04 PM (p69D5) Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks, Free the Trump 45! at June 27, 2024 03:04 PM (L/fGl) 360

------------- Yet, VWs and Porsches weren't. Go figure. Posted by: Pudinhead at June 27, 2024 03:13 PM (n17eQ) They spent the extra $4.75 for a sway bar. ----------------- Two 20lb bags of sand placed on the front trunk wheels solved the problem. That and teaching people not to accelerate into curves but rather accelerate out of curves worked, too. Posted by: Pudinhead at June 27, 2024 03:19 PM (n17eQ) 427
It stopped being the History Channel a long ways back. And when they do make a foray into actual history, they make bizarre blunders - like, for example, having an actor depicting Andrew Jackson with a full beard and a Midwestern accent, while having someone in the same episode as Kit Carson that actually was a dead ringer for Old Hickory. You're more likely to find something approaching real history content on AHC.

When my family lived in Pittsburgh in the mid 60's we had a Corvair . Black with tan leather seats. It navigated those Pittsburgh hills in rain or snow with no problem. My grandpa, who lived with us, had one too. We were a corvair family.
-------------- Yep. My Dad had one in 63 that was my sister's when she went to college. Sister sold it to a fellow student from NJ. The fuel line broke and caught fire on his first trip home. My sister is a genius. Posted by: Pudinhead at June 27, 2024 03:22 PM (n17eQ) 429
As far as the History Channel teaching actual history, that's true only if you find recycled Erich von Däniken schtick coupled with reality TV to be "history." They've undergone the same fundamental transition as the Travel Channel, which is now all paranormal all the time, or A&E, which is now True Crime intermingled with assorted shows about People Behaving Badly.

Wanna bet speed limiters won't apply to cars driven by elites and people that work for the government?

"I Can't Drive 55!" Remember that Sammy Hagar hit? Americans revolted at being compelled to drive 55. I wonder if Europeans will put up with the "speed limiters"? Talk about a nanny state from hell.
