The Morning Report — 6/24/24

Morning Report intro.jpg

Good Morning Kids. So a mob brazenly roamed one of the most Jewish neighborhoods in LA and started beating up on Jews in front of a synagogue as the LAPD essentially did nothing mostly because the city's commie mayor Karen Bass and CA's fey, brilliantine, pompous ass of a tyrant governor Gavin Newsome collectively allowed it to happen.

And in a not necessarily unrelated story about the transmogrification of America into a leftist police state we have these revelations:

The Department of Homeland Security was born in the ashes of 9/11 and was initially authorized by the 2002 Homeland Security Act.
From the start, DHS was an agency looking for a mission. Were they spies? Cops? Paper pushers? As it turns out, the answers to those questions are yes, yes, and yes. . .

. . . "Homeland Intelligence Experts Group." The innocuous name hides the fact that the biggest heavy-hitters in government intelligence and law enforcement were on it.
And you've never heard of it.
Thankfully, the good folks at America First Legal (AFL) used the auspices of the Freedom of Information Act to ferret out the activities of this group. The panel included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan  –  two of the most political appointees in the history of their respective agencies. . .

. . . It actually gets worse, There is a Stasi-like attachment to trying to get Americans to tattle on one another.

Certain efforts outlined in the files released Thursday showed how the board hoped to enhance its ability to collect information about Americans.

The group of "experts" said the "See Something, Say Something" campaign following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City fell short because "Americans have an ambivalent feeling of telling on each other."

"We see people who go off the rails. We need people to say something. We need a nationwide campaign to push it to the locals," the meeting notes stated.

"To get a mother or teacher to come forward, it needs to be a public health catcher's mitt," one board member noted. . .

. . . "The security of the American people depends on our capacity to collect, generate, and disseminate actionable intelligence to our federal, state, local, territorial, tribal, campus, and private sector partners," DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement at the time the "Experts Group" was formed in 2023.

The East German Stasi encouraged children to turn in their parents for "anti-socialist thinking." We're not close to that point yet. But we're a lot closer since Joe Biden became (pseudo) president.

It's a hop skip and a jump to jailing parents for refusing to allow the state to transform their sons into daughters and vice versa, or climate denialism, or election denial, or name the river in Eqypt of your choice. Solzhenitsyn's psycho wards are right around the corner.

And the goons who set America ablaze four years ago this summer and the ones beating up Jews on the streets will be the enforcers, while your own kids rat you out to the DHS.

OK, I've seen enough.

Dear Lord, I just found out there's a musical about Bonnie and Clyde. Some idiot described it as "the story of two small-town kids from the middle of nowhere who became the biggest folk heroes in all America. They craved adventure – and each other. Fearless, shameless, and alluring, this story of love, adventure and crime captured the attention of an entire nation."

Whereas they were two homicidal maniacs who slaughtered 13 people. It takes Hollywood and Broadway assholes to turn them into something glamorous and romantic. And it takes the "arts community" to swallow this.

It's a good thing Hamer and the boys didn't spare any bullets eradicating these two psychopaths.

B&C are depicted as the low-life thugs they were, with some depiction of their folk-hero celebrity.

Thursday's debate was called for by the other Leftist factions in a move to force the issue of Joe's being replaced now.

Early word is that they're using a week to train Joe to be his old attack dog self. But for the first time Joe's running on his own record and it's abysmal. Ahd even the best drugs won't stop Joe's failing synapses from misfiring over 90 minutes.

Expect Trump to be preternaturally calm to draw the contrast with Joe, and for Trump to attack Jake Tapper as Fake News when he's not politely clubbing Joe like a baby seal, Developing ....

53 The Bonnie and Clyde crime spree and those like it, one reason maybe for that kind of thing was due to the old trope about a crook getting across the county line. The Sheriff can't chase a fugitive out of his jurisdiction. Somebody noticed a pattern emerge with the locations of the banks they were hitting forming a large circle, and they deduced they would eventually end up close to some family member if they followed their usual.

What was interesting to me, all of that stuff the cops or whomever did was pretty dang illegal. By this time I don't think anybody cared, they wanted those people gone.

54 “Make what we buy and buy what we make,” he said. I proposed repealing the income tax and replacing it with tariffs and deep spending cuts on our regulatory state, which severely retards innovation and wealth creation. Ellis called the idea “a revolutionary concept.”

He went on to conclude, “You probably couldn’t have enough tariffs to fund the regulatory state we have now. So the best way to do it is exactly what you said, get rid of the income tax. We’re going to replace the revenues with tariffs and then start chopping away everything we can’t afford anymore.”

Add a small pay as you go into retail purchases so that everyone PAYS the cost of the Federal Burden.

63 Boeing made some amazing airplanes. There’s no questions about that. But for many decades, it has always been a bloated company That did the mainstream stuff like let the unions run wild. Buying bot, McDonnell Douglas, Probably a much better and much more revered airplane producer because they had to to survive.

Boeing has always had issues with really terrible leaders and really terrible unions. I learned years ago that investing in Boeing is probably a really good decision because it is the one company that Democrats and Republicans agree on, You can guess on why they agree on the same thing but over the decades they always have. Betting against Boeing has always been a mistake because again the right and left support Boeing. It is just the way it is.

I remember Phil Condit as the CEO in the early 1990s and he almost brought that company to collapse. The politicians will never allow that to happen so I think if people are getting too pumped up about ganging up on Boeing they are actually going to lose because history says that’s not how it works. Is basically the one company we use to fly the flag and take on the rest of the world, No one is going to take down Boeing,

80 I watched the movie Oppenheimer and it was actually a good watch. My take away was a bit different than others because to me it seemed like all these scientists and movie producers are just too full of themselves.

You look at green berets real green berets. You look at force recon marines, Are they producing these movies? It is not just if the movies is interesting because that alone is good, But why are the same people fighting each other over popularity, fame and other issues so much more than people from other groups.

I have not heard enough of communists in the 50s and 40s who worried about Spain and even right wingers who worried about Commies here. We’ve heard your story we get it.

Right now we need to prevent a fake vote that’s happening in a few months. Everything should be focused on that one particular endeavor.

Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, speaking at a recent investor conference in Chicago, blamed his city’s challenges on those who ran it before he took office in May 2023, saying “not one crisis in this city right now” developed on his watch. The mayor’s office declined to make him available for an interview.

Right. I paid a lifetime in income tax. I did what was supposed to be right and deferred enjoyment of that until my retirement years so that I could live off the savings.

Now not only will my savings be taxed by inflation, the USG wants to tax that already twice taxed savings once again.

In the meantime, everyone's favorite demographic wins again. Immigrants come in, work income-tax free while grinding down everything my taxes paid for, then go home with that largess and spend it in their own community.

155 I only a pine on the investing discussion because it is something I have thought about over the years. People used to worry about investing in Philip Morris because over about 90 decades it was the best performing stock in America when you take dividends into account.

Then you had these green energy or various ETF out there that people would invest in because they said they want to invest in the right companies so they can sleep well.

I am saying if your investments go bust and you’re broke no one’s going to bail you out because you were investing in the so-called “right” companies. Investing is difficult enough, And not everyone has a lot of money to play around with. You should never choose an investment based on anything other than return on investment that is my point and that’s been the point of pretty much every capitalist over the last two or 300 years.

Outside of that particular discussion, I have no argument here. For sure, there’s more to life than investing, but there are people that are literally Living day-to-day hand mouth week a week. 194 I've been saying for years that I think that the DC regime's tactics most closely resemble the GDR's before them. I usually say this in regard to their reliance on and perfection of Zersetzung tactics. But this recent development is another clear echo - if you listen with even half an ear, you can hear Erich Mielke's voice.

And the resemblance between the two police states is sufficiently strong that I don't think it's coincidental.

As far as intelligence operations go, the Soviets always outclassed us, but the East Germans absolutely owned the CIA on their turf. It put forth a huge amount of effort to establish a presence in the Soviets' Western beachhead, with absolutely no success at all, and that imbued our spy chieftains with a healthy fear of and grudging respect for the Stasi.

So, when the USSR went tits up, and our massive spy apparatus turned against its next enemy - its own country - they said "let's model this on our most effective foe," and I think that's why this all sounds so familiar.

205 Kennedy's desire to land a man on the Moon by the end of the decade lead to the fire in Apollo One. This lead to the creation of the Block I and Block II Apollo command modules. Block I would be used for Earth orbit and lacked the docking tunnel while the Block II CMs would go to the Moon.

Grissom's Mercury capsule sinking lead to Apollo One's hatch being designed the way it was.

NASA and North American lacked a full appreciation of how dangerous a high pressure full oxygen capsule atmosphere was. Hence highly flammable materials like nylon were used inside the capsule.

NASA also failed to realize how dangerous the test was since the rocket was not fueled. So there was a lack of emergency crews present. Aggravating things was communications issues between the capsule and block house which caused the test to run overtime.

And yes during Congressional investigation and testimony regarding the fatal fire the dirty laundry between NASA and North American got aired out.

The locals didn't like people stealing their savings or checking. There had to be some incentive without deposit insurance.

Were banking losses distributed something equally across the depositors? Too, and if the bank were to fail altogether, this would be a problem as well. Depositors were wiped out. And a bank robbery might do it.

At the time Steele was writing reports for Victoria Nuland at State about what was going in Ukraine. The entire reason for the Russia hoax and the reason they impeached Trump over the Ukraine phone call was to keep quiet what was really going in Ukraine. What's old is new again. "We" heard all of this tune before. In the 1960s and 1970s. At the time, many scientists suggested atomic power plants for base load electrical production. There has to be viable replacement.

Because that's the argument as of now, nothing replaces petroleum, oil, gas and coal. The energy density in a gallon of gasoline. Nothing else comes close. Until Dr. Science Guy (tm) gets off his happy ass and invents something to replace it that's better, what's the point?

244 235, I could see where you might get that, but you weren’t getting that from me although I have to be honest and fair. I said it should only be about return. Yes, I would invest in a green energy company. If I knew it would give me the return my investment needed for sure I would do that.

That is a far cry from saying people should invest in Disney or whatever crap company, regardless of their politics. Most of those companies are run terribly and they are not doing well. But I will be honest with you. I’m not gonna try to weasel out of that one. I was arguing that we should invest in tobacco companies, lol but you called me and you should invest in whatever company gives you the returns you’re seeking. Stop adding complications to investment. It is already hard enough to win and make money. Ask anyone who went broke how important it is.

The 10 Commandments Are about More than the 10 Commandments

As we forced Christianity out of the public sphere the central argument was that we could have a government/society that was completely agnostic about religion and morality.

And shortly after getting much/most of the population to agree to this the left developed their woke religion and inserted that where Christianity used to be.

So I suspect that first argument is impossible. You can have a Judeo-Christian society or a Muslim one or a communist one or a woke one or so on. But an agnostic one? No.

330 People push Presidents’ Day not because car companies pushed it although that for sure helped. But people and governments push Presidents’ Day for the same reason Nixon did when he proclaimed it as a one time thing in the 70s, He was trying to make it about himself and not about George Washington.

The left loves Presidents’ Day because it makes Obama and Carter the same as Washington. We go along with it because we could look at a federal calendar. All you have to do is look at it. Anyone can look at a state calendar. All you have to do is look at it. Some states do have a Presidents’ Day, but do not in the federal government for sure does not.

How do battery cars make heat when there's no heater core using heat generated by the engine? By USING BATTERY POWER. Yes....turn on the bus heater to keep the kids from freezing, you lose significant range for travel.

Teh story about the basically liberal prof getting into guns is heartening. A friend, later his second wife, was instrumental in that. If I didn't care about guns, and the hot lady I was dating said, "Hey, come on out to the range with me," I'd be an easy sale.

But I do like guns. (Though I don't own one right now.) In those circumstances I'd be even quicker to say, "The range? What are we doing standing around? Let's go!"

So I asked my AI/CoPilot enabled smart-phone "What events has the town of Jefferson Texas scheduled for this coming Independence Day"

Hoping to see if they are going to do the bake sale and fireworks. I asked a similar question for Washington on the Brazos because before CoVid H-E-B grocery would sponsor an amazing fireworks show.

In the case of Jefferson, it answered based on a 2018 article, for Washington on the Brazos, it referenced a 2016 article. (Since then WotB has cancelled fireworks but AI though it was still happening)

So if kids are relying on their smart phones, they are getting accurate information only if they don't mind being years behind with stale and in many cases expired results.

389 When she was younger, TS had the advantage that her songs didn't sound like absolutely every other group.

Taylor's songs, back when started in Country music, were refreshing because they were age appropriate - she was a teen singing about having a crush on her (boy) friend, about mean girls, about bad break-ups (yeah, before it became a theme for her), etc.. Compared to other teen singers like Britney Spears - "Baby, Hit Me One More Time," (I mean, come on!)and Christine Aguillera with their mature, sexual themes, Taylor's songs were sweet and safe to listen to in the car with a young kid.

Pilates is kind of interesting.

It became a thing in the 70's mostly because actors/actresses out of NYC used it to improve their posture.

That seemed to be the main use for it ie. a healthy core and good posture.

And then it became this whole other thing.

White House Briefing Room (various announcements as it rescues more & more pensions & benefits) -

Prior to the ARP (American Rescue Plan), the PBGC (U.S. Department of Labor, Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation) multiemployer* pension insurance program was itself projected to become insolvent in 2026. Thanks to the ARP, once-struggling multiemployer pension plans will be able pay the full benefits earned by workers and retirees who participate in these plans through at least 2051. (Heh.)

(*A multiemployer plan is a pension plan created through an agreement between two or more employers and a union.)

BTW, many a recipient has been involved in peaceful protests, too.

412 'Wait Times for Medical Care Matter'

There's no shortage of physicians in the region, but there's a terrible shortage of general primary care physicians, now especially for those middle age & up. For those with standard medical insurances, waiting time to see a primary care physician who will take new and/or older patients is about 8 months in my region.

Almost all of the 'old-timers' have recently retired. Even the local ophthalmologists, GYNs, podiatrists, etc. with good clientele bases are closing practices. (Reportedly, government regulations are becoming overwhelming for those with patient practices.)

Physicians in teaching hospitals unable to get into their hoped for professional practices are also choosing to remain as Hospitalists in lieu of becoming primary care physicians in the region.

Medicaid services appear to be decent - several smaller clinics have been established in 'underserved' areas - usually at the foot of hospitals - and transportation services are readily available. Further, all undocumented children & women get medical care.

But ERs are awash with patients with drugs & mental illness issues, and undocumented individuals.
