Good Morning Kids. Summertime, and the living is anything but easy. With yet another presidential election on the horizon the time is right for more riots and distractions from the latest wave of societal, economic and other disasters wrought on us by the anti-American left and its home in the Democrat Party. This whole Juneteenth insult in which some sort of black uprising in Galveston Texas back in 1865 is celebrated as the end of slavery in America, when in point of fact it cost the lives of well over half a million mostly white Americans in a bloody cvil war to end slavery, which was the purview of the Democrat Party along with the Jim Crow laws that prevented their true emancipation and elevation to equality that that party resisted for well over 100 years until the Democrats hijacked the Civil Rights movement and turned it into a massive multi-generational and multi-trillion dollar grift that destroyed the black family and real integration all so that the Left could expand the power and scope of a massive centralized bureaucracy, all while using the disaster as a means to tear our REPUBLIC to shreds so they could attain and maintain power.

It's why execrable vermin like James Clyburn are defecating into Biden's Depends that black voters are turning on the Democrat Party and seemingly tuning into Donald Trump. Ditto the Union blue collar vote. And others.

Everywhere you turn, the Left is going to burn down the house if they can't have it.

She was going around and for each clothes rack, she was taking out the overhead sign advertising the price of the garments on that rack, adding a "Sale" red-placard it, and putting the same price back in front. That kind of false advertising is supposed to be against the law up here. Too many laws, too many regulations, very little of which is enforced, and the companies and people are catching on. You see it in behaviour like this.

81 VDH’s piece on California… makes me sad. I had many wonderful years living there and raising a family even; it was close to paradise on earth. But now, from relatives still there and my Nextdoor scroll from my old neighborhood… it’s definitely gone downhill. Oh it’s still nice in those coastal towns but more and more of the urban rot encroaches even on those enclaves. They’re still livable; quite nice even. But you can see the decay mainly from the homeless encampments and the outrageous cost of gasoline. I’ll be there later this summer… probably take a run on that beautiful beach which I miss…. I don't know about copper being stripped out, but from observing homeless camps, what you will have is a total absence of any sanitation or hygiene. Things that should go to the landfill will be dragged into the condo unit, feral animals will be given free range, rotting food, junk appliances that blow breakers... it will smell horrible.

I would be more concerned about fire as drugged up people are pretty careless.

We used to go dive the rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and you'd see lots of silkies and other types of sharks milling about the structure. Sharks generally tend to be lazy, opportunistic feeders and will generally leave you alone. Barracuda on the other hand will often use you as a screen to ambush other fish. It's not uncommon to see someone floating with a 6 foot barracuda behind them at arms length.

But even then, the implication is, "the job wasn't worth doing, so not doing it well doesn't matter."

Maybe she was (is) "exceedingly capable" but her job was pointless and her projects or duties irrelevant. I've been in that position myself - I'm pretty good at what I do, but what I was doing was pointless.

My niece went to Hahvahd, I still love her, and a few of her roommates and friends came from homes far away so they would end up at my sister's place for some holiday meal.

One of my favorites was a roommate of hers from Israel. She was a couple years older than the rest because she had already served her military commitment. Smart, funny, pretty and mature far beyond her years and from what I gathered a pretty good shot.

It's a two-way street. If you want to be valued for having children and raising families, you have to have children and raise families. We're approaching half of women who choose not to. And half of those who *do* choose to do so are single mothers (well, correction, it is probably lower than that. Half of kids are born out of wedlock, but they aren't necessarily at a 1:1 ratio. I suspect single mothers have more kids than married mothers, but the gross figures are *probably* close). And of the more than half of marriages that dissolve, the dissolution is initiated by women about 70% of the time, more if college-educated.

If the special status was predicated on reproduction and family, they've surrendered that status at the macro level.

This was always a wrong formulation and we have the proof. The number one reason the black community is in such bad shape is the absence of men in the household. Full stop.

Same goes for the men. But I think it really boils down to training. Currently that's questionable across the entire military.

We're pretty far down the "equality road" to do anything different.

It depends on time and region. It's less common now than it was 20 years, based on my personal experience. It's always been less common - virtually unheard of, I'd suspect - in the South than in other regions.

In the Mid-Atlantic in the 90s through the aughts, yeah. Quite common. In Colorado in the aughts, not an everyday occurrence but you'd have it happen if you held enough doors. I noticed it trail off after that, and I'm not sure why. Probably because it was stupid and self-defeating, especially if the person happened to notice that people who hold doors for other people (probably less than it used to be) tend to do so for *everyone.* I hold the door for whoever is behind me, male or female. It's common courtesy.

But truly female-centric sacrifices have essentially vanished. Few dudes are going to give up their seat on the bus for a woman.

I recall opening the door for 2-3 post HS girls a few months ago. At first they were a bit shocked but they turned around and said thank you with big smiles.

I do this all the time in our building's entrance and elevator. But all of our neighbors are "normal."

I would hope all of our BD pups do the same. I think they do.

That might be true for other branches but the phrase 'every Marine is a rifleman' undercuts that claim. If you can't, or you won't, or you don't want to do the basic job, don't bother joining.

Drafting males or females as opposed to voluntary enlistment is a sure fire way to destroy unit cohesion and military effectiveness unless good order and discipline is stringently enforced. Israel very definitely exercises good order and discipline within the ranks and has very effective women combatants.

I always got along really well with my bus drivers. For a period there, I had a *very* long bus trip to get to school (I went to a special-choice school that was on the other edge of the county) and both of those drivers were awesome and chatty.

It never occurred to me to give an end-of-year card or gift, though. I don't know if it occurred to others. I'd like to think that it just wasn't a thing in my area, but it probably was and I was probably just thoughtless.

This is hilarious.

First, that *is* debate prep. Gaining background information on the likely issues and establishing the point you want to make and information you want to cite if an issue comes up sounds a whole lot like "debate prep" to me.

Second, this indicates the opposite of what they say. If your "debate prep" consists of "if question like X, answer like 2" if/then statement memorization, it's because you can't grasp the actual context or issue. You're being filled with canned responses because you cannot understand (or effectively synthesize) the background information and context. If this is the approach, you're an automaton because you can't actually think.

Boxing day is still on the calendar, but I haven't heard of it being used for its original purpose in quite a while. As I was told by my grandparents, it was originally the day where you boxed up all your old clothes and toys from the previous years (those that were still in decent condition of course) that you no longer used or wanted, to give to the less fortunate.

Some parents also used it as an excuse to clear out a lot of old toys that otherwise would take over the place.

It then morphed into the day of re-boxing all those gifts you got that you didn't want, and wanted to return to the store. (The 80's is when this shift happened I think?)

Also: Ontario is the only province left that observes Boxing Day as a stat holiday.

I am very, very worried about what's going to happen in 5-7 years.

I have no specific basis for that worry, only historical context. That context is clear. Without exception, every single weight loss "miracle drug" has manifested catastrophic - as in crippling or fatal - consequences several years down the line. Weight loss miracle drugs have a perfect track record of harming those who take them.

Is there evidence of that for Ozempic? Not that I am aware of. But the history of the overall category is so bad that it would give me a hell of a lot of pause before taking such a drug.

There was an episode of Doctor Who a long time ago where the plot featured fat that just "walked away" because of a "wonder drug." Turned out the fat was literally walking away because it grew legs, arms, and a little body and detached itself from its host. Very cute. But also disturbing when someone overdosed on the "wonder drug" and ALL their fat (i.e., much of their body) dissolved....

They have a full quote from Haberman...it sounds like Trump's doing more studying and prep than reported in previos years.

He’s not doing mock debates that could, that could certainly change. But he’s been doing what they’ve been describing as policy time where they bring in different people to brief him. A bunch of senators have come up, come in last week, Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Eric Schmitt, both briefed him at the RNC headquarters after his meeting with lawmakers around Capitol Hill, which was his first major meeting with party members since he became the presumptive nominee. And they are focusing on various issues that could come up, abortion, health care, energy, COVID and then very specifically, and this was one thing that came up last Thursday, what Trump will say when asked January 6th related questions, particularly his statements about pardoning some of the people who were arrested in connection with the violence that day.

Province of Ontario is the only place it is a mandatory stat holiday. In other provinces or territories they might recognize it and businesses are permitted to, but they're not required to.

That's hard. The first three weeks are *brutal* - just like with breaking any comfortable habit and establishing a new one. It's abject misery for a month and then you can do it relatively easily. But that first month is *so* hard that failure is extremely likely.

During my brief UK sojourn it had charitable components to it, but it was also a day when one gave gifts to people that were important parts of one's day-to-day life who ordinarily received little thanks or recognition - postmen, for example, bus-drivers, doormen, and so forth.

Very low-key and informal, but still a rather charming aspect of society that I hope people there haven't entirely abandoned.

We just do that around Christmastime, in my experience. The postman gets a tip. The garbage man gets a tip. If you have personal services or household staff (a housekeeper, etc.), he or she gets a tip.

I can't give the garbage man a tip anymore, which is unfortunate. They moved to smaller crews and robo-trucks for the normal collection. The garbage men do a lot else besides - bulk trash pickup, leaf collection, etc. - but the regular route has little if any direct interaction between garbage man and bin, so I can't leave a tip for them anymore and I'm not usually here when they come by.

First sip makes them slur. By can #2 they can barely walk.
I can drink a 12 pack of normal beer and not be as bad as I am on one Steel Reserve.
