After Week of Joe Biden's Dementia Being Obvious to Everyone, MSNBC Copes by Pushing New Storyline That It's Really Trump Who's In Steep Cognitive Decline

Happy Monday, dear morons and moronettes.

Once more unto the breach.

MSNBC is coping hard after Biden froze again, this time at a Hollywood fundraiser. Barack Obama had to take him by the arm and lead him off the stage.

MSNBC is pushing this hard. Trump referred to his former White House physician as "Doc Ronny Johnson" when the man's actual name is "Doctor Ronny Jackson."

He confused the common name Johnson with the equally common name Jackson. The name "Jack" being a nickname for "John."

Therefore, he's worse than Biden.

There's a cool fact that you can easily read badly misspelled words as long as 1, the misspelled right letter, 2, the length of the word is about right, and 3, there's context that suggests what the word is.

For example, you will have no trouble reading this:

"Joe Biden is showing signs of avadcned dimetian."

Fluent readers usually do not read words letter by letter. They did as children, but as they got more skilled at reading, their eyes began recognizing words by sight-pictures.

There's a very stupid pedagogical theory that says we should teach little children how to read by sight-pictures -- "whole word" reading they call it -- but doctors of education are morons. Children cannot read by "whole word." They need to work out words letter-by-letter until they've done it so many times that they can start snapping sight-pictures. You can't start with that.

I mention this because, as a writer, I know that I am usually thinking two or three words ahead of the word I'm currently writing, and I will often accidentally write some other word beginning with the same letter as the word I meant to write. If I'm writing quickly, with my fingers unable to keep up with my thoughts, I might write "their" instead of "there" -- not because I don't know the difference between the words, but because my conscious, engaged mind is on to the next few words ahead of that and his left a rote, more robotic part of my brain to actually type the word I thought of two seconds ago. And sometimes that rote, robotic part of your brain just glitches.

So Trump said "Johnson" instead of "Jackson."

Did he ever say affufflemwhoosen? Because Joe Biden has.

By the way, this was the level of entertainment on display at the Hollywood fundraiser.

Jack Black is very 2003. The NeverTrumpers probably still think he's that funny rotund young man who is so spirited and energetic. Like that other wildly original and energetic young man, Robin Williams.

Nanoo nanoo y'all!

This is probably too speculative, but what if Trump being in some way confined (house arrest or incarceration) was intended to create a circumstance where he would have to debate over a Zoom or (if it's still around) Skype connection?

I can see Trump's signal being lost due to a "failed connection" or "buffering error" or whatever Tapper and Co. want to call it. The signal delay would also hamper effective come-backs.

Either that or there's a camera crew in the holding area with Trump, who's wearing the traditional prison garb. Either way, the whole thing could be stage-managed to Biden's benefit.

I don't care what they think. I don't care what they say. There are enough of them out there that are so interchangeable that when one says something idiotic or leftwing, I just drop them from my roster. Fuck them.

99 WaPo Propagandists Warn Of ‘Potential Future Oldest President’ Trump Even Though Biden Will Be Older

However much you hate the media, it’s not enough. The latest reminder comes courtesy of The Washington Post.

On Friday, Donald Trump’s birthday, the Post ran a predictable — but nonetheless despicable — piece of 2024 election propaganda titled, “Donald Trump, potential future oldest president, turns 78.”

“Age is just a number, the adage goes. For Donald Trump, that number just got bigger,” writes national political “reporter” Marianne LeVine, who adds that Trump’s age “has also drawn notice from some voters and experts on aging.”

The University of Chicago has no fixed retirement age for its professors.

What it has is a small committee (generally with a couple of Nobel Prize winners on it) that periodically takes an elderly professor out to lunch, and politely tells him that they are past it, and that the professor is going to go on "emeritus" status (i.e. retire).

Soon enough, he'll be replaced by some dour, bitter apparatchik who flexes his retard strength on a regular and brutal basis. Probably directly after our historic first mincing queer Preezy makes it necessary to put a skullcracker in the big chair to restore the balance of terror.

167 I'll never understand the leftwing obsession with "celebrities"

============

This made me think of the LA Times profile of John Mellencamp (from June 2023).

Here is what it said:

"When he’s on tour, a personal assistant helps with everything from his wellness rituals, including stretching, meditation and diet, to the way he prefers his hotel rooms to be styled. “You know, I’ve never written a check,” he said"

And of course:

"How in the f— can you say, ‘Oh, you can’t kill babies,’ but then you want guns for everybody?”

Why would anyone care what this high school graduate who lives in several mansions has to say about politics?

169 After Week of Joe Biden's Dementia Being Obvious to Everyone, MSNBC Copes by Pushing New Storyline That It's Really Trump Who's In Steep Cognitive Decline

It's funny, because these discussions have been going on in Lefty circles for some time now, on this and every other issue that's a weakness for Biden.

Anger/Temper: Biden is calm and collected. Barr told the Jan 6 committee Trump threw ketchup on the walls because a new report made him angry

Shitting pants: Biden's fine, but people at the NY court reporter Trump smells like shit, and images appear to show he wears a diaper!

Obviously plenty of clips of Trump's rambling stories, mistaken names and pronunciation, etc, shows he's the one with cognitive decline.

Trump's the immoral and criminal one...he has affairs, didn't return classified documents, and is a convicted felon. Biden is a good father, loyal to family and country, and returned his documents when asked.

Trump said creepy things about his daughter, and how attractive she is, and he'd date her if she weren't his daughter. Anything about Biden and kids is misrepresented, taken out of context, or (in the case of Ashley's diary) NOT SPOKEN ABOUT AT ALL!!!

239 Phonics work for most people. It's how you learn. "Whole-word" is a time-saving shortcut that you'll spontaneously develop after you learn how to read.

I *suspect* - though I do not know - that spontaneous readers (kids who learn to read without instruction, usually at a young age) just hone in on whole-word immediately, but I don't know how that actually works. It didn't happen to me, I was taught my letters.

With my 2 - I think it was straight memorization that then made connections in their brains. One loved favorite books being read to her OVER AND OVER (Are You My Mother is banned at my house - never have a bus break down in Italy for 3 hours and only have 1 book). The other loved street signs in the car being read OVER AND OVER (yes, every dang sign you passed). One was a girl and one was a boy, but I think their brains just flat memorized and saw patterns before entering any kind of formal learning. And yes, this is tailoring to their interests (you cannot imagine how annoying car rides can be with signs EVERYWHERE)...

244 Tenacious D had its moments, and Jack Black arguably peaked sometime around School of Rock and Nacho Libre. You can see the decline beginning in Peter Jackson's King Kong remake - he simply couldn't figure out how to play the character of the film director in that one. He was clearly trying to make the character relatable and often comedic while at the same time portraying him as an obsessive, almost sociopathic wretch, and he couldn't pull it off. It would probably be a challenged for most actors, but they would have come up with something better than the crazy-quilt combination Black put into that movie.

My favorite Jack Black role is "Jeepers Creepers" in the Mr. Show parody of Jesus Christ Superstar - one of the funniest sketches they did, right up there with Monster Mash and Dalai Lama Monk Academy.

Repetition helps if everyone is paying attention and reading along. It's stultifying for anyone who already knows it, though.

My first-grade teacher blessedly saved me from that. I learned how to read at four (my brother was *very* excited to teach my letters) and it was apparent to the teacher by the second day that I was way, way ahead. I was a very very early reader. I remember my early years which is also a bit weird. like my first memory is being in a stroller, listening to the sound of the wheels, and the world being fuzzy. I ended up in glasses at 3.

anyway we had these little chip things at the Catholic preschool - one color was the consonants, one was for diphthongs, and the other color (pink!) was the vowels. the nuns taught us to sound out and I learned QUICK.

my mom would take me to the library and have people give me stuff to read it was pretty crazy

anyway I definitely didn't learn by whole word at all. I would read things apparently mostly correctly but just by sounding out. after a bit tho I knew more words and read really fast and quite a lot. I still have words I use but pronounce incorrectly from learning them young on my own tho, it makes my husband laugh.

phonics in general is the way to go. It frees you to learn on your own.

I don't *remember* learning, but my mother told me in later years that before I started school, we used to sit and read comics together. She did the "hard" words, I did the "easy" ones. Eventually all the words were easy, and I moved on to bigger things.

When I started school, I wondered why the other kids had such troubles with simple stuff like "Dick & Jane Learn How to Rob a Bank." (Not really the title.) They were doing the see-and-say method; I'd learned to sound things out.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at June 17, 2024 12:15 PM

I have liked him in a lot of his work.

I think I first saw him and liked him in High Fidelity (2000). Then liked him in School of Rock (2003). He was decent in Envy (2004) with Ben Stiller. Liked his character in King Kong (2005). I thought he was good as the voice/character of Po in animated Kung Fu Panda movies which started in 2008.

He also made that "Baby One More Time" music video to promote Kung Fu Panda 4 I think, which I thought was pretty good. But other than that, I don't think I've followed him in anything since 2008 other than the Kung Fu Panda movies.

Sucks that he's a Marxist lefty asshole. But 99.9% of people in the entertainment industry are that way.

I live in a Blue State VERY RED county and I've seen a significant move from the red, and it shows from the shrines, flags, signs and trump garb GONE. Nobody sucks anymore. No American flags upside down. Just an extremely few nuts, nobody could crack. President Biden will win big.

I see fairly significant softening in key demos for Biden atm. 40yo and unders, expecially 27yo and unders (Gen Z), where there is a large gender split, with Gen Z males breaking against us. Also, Latinos overall are trending the wrong way on balance, as are black males (who voted 17 per cent Rethug in 2022). Gen X surged to the right in 2022, and that was post Roe overturning.

I’m hopeful things will break for Biden after debate. it will settle the too old to run issue. That's what's so different this year.

Democrats have been overperforming at the only polls that matter -- those at the ballot box, ever since Roe was overturned.

My speculation since 2021 has been that it will be Newsom/Whitmer. They seem to have been being groomed for the ticket for years now. They check all the right Marxist Left boxes as far as policy.

DEI is off with Newsom a white male, but the Left lets that slide if the white male holds the correct radical Left policies (see: Bill Clinton re: abortion and Joe Biden 2020).

385 In 2012, Obama recovered from "It's the economy, stupid," so don't think it's not possible again.

Politico, 04/23/2012, 'It’s still the U.S. economy, stupid'

(In part) "The 2012 campaign sometimes feels like a debate over dogs riding on car roofs and which party likes moms more.

But the election almost certainly will still turn on the state of the U.S. economy as the nation tries to pull away from one of the worst recessions in history. And both President Barack Obama and likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney have their work cut out for them in gaming out an uneven recovery.

Will Obama convince voters that he steered the nation away from the cusp of total collapse and has the economy moving sharply ahead? Or will Romney succeed in selling the idea that the “Obama economy” is an abysmal failure?"

We estimate exempting all tip income from federal income and payroll taxes would reduce federal revenues by $150 to $250 billion over ten years on a static basis and could reduce revenue significantly more once behavioral effects are incorporated."

418 Donald Trump’s Proposal to Exempt Tip Income from Federal Taxes

... back in 1993, Clinton had passed a "Millionaire's Tax" on corporate CEO making more that $1 million. The result: CEO starting getting stock options instead of income over $1 million. That lead to what PBS' Frontline called the "Largest transfer of wealth in the history of the United States".

I can see CEOs and other top executives ending getting "bonuses" and instead getting "tips" from their company.

419 re: There's a very stupid pedagogical theory that says we should teach little children how to read by sight-pictures -- "whole word" reading they call it -- but doctors of education are morons.

This reminds me of the "Common Core" approach to math. The thing is, I think the minds behind these ideas made some valid observations (higher-functioning mind do find short-cuts to bypass the elementary methodologies), but they seemed to offer a very backwards-thinking application (er go, we'll start by teaching people the short-cuts that are used by the advanced minds).

I wonder if this is a product of our instant-gratification culture. I guess ideally, sure, it would be great to just skip the hard work of learning the basics and go straight to the point of being good at something, but most disciplines don't really work that way.
