The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Thread & Prayer Revival (6/15/24)

61524.jpg

*****

Happy Saturday 'rons, 'ettes & everything in between. No need to thank me for the physical fitness exercise provided above.

Before we get into Prayer Revival, just a few housekeeping matters. (Rulz for those of you in Baldwin.)

1) This is an open thread feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be nice to one another. Even Cloggensteins need love & support.
3) No running with sharp objects unless you or your parent's health insurance is paid up.
4) Feel free to have whatever weekend you decide or is decided for you.

Thank you Annie for your service.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

5/17 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant asked for prayers for J.J. Sefton of the Morning Report. Please pray that his upcoming surgery and recovery would go very well and that he retains full mental and physical function, and can enjoy the rest of his life without worries.
6/3 Update – J.J. sends his thanks for the prayers, kindness, and support. The pathology report showed the tumor was grade 4 glioblastoma. Essentially, that means he has brain cancer. The next steps are chemo and radiation in hope of staving off a recurrence, and prolonging whatever time he has left, and maintaining the best possible quality of life.

5/18 – P asked for prayers for his brother, who just revealed that he is suffering from stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes. The outlook is not good. P prays that he remembers God is with him, notwithstanding his diagnosis.

5/18 – Dash my lace wings! asked for prayers for D, who is in ICU due to a heart attack, and for her husband, R, who is a veteran and a lover of cats and bad jokes, who will be lost if he loses her.
6/1 Update – D is out of the hospital and recovering well for now.

5/18 – Tonypete requested prayers for Carole across the street. She is a delightful 80 year old. Previously she was in great shape, very active. A few weeks ago she took ill and turned out to have previously undiagnosed heart troubles. They hurriedly replaced a valve but it didn’t go well. She continues to leak blood and now needs open heart surgery. She is tiny – no more than 90 pounds - and they fear she will not survive.

5/22 – Vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby asked for prayers. She has been in the hospital since Monday with sudden dizziness and emesis. They’ve ruled out stroke. They have noticed nystagmus and it might be BPPV. She is scared she won’t be able to function anymore.
6/1 Update – Vmom sends thanks for the prayers while she was in the hospital last week. She is so grateful to be home, back at work, and going to vestibular rehab therapy for her inner ear woes.

5/23 – Olddog in mo could use some prayers. He is going in for surgery again at 10 am. Squamous cell carcinoma under the tongue. It is not a good location due to the proximity to a salivary gland.
5/24 Update – Olddog sent his thanks for the prayers. Surgery went better than expected. No skin graft and so no overnight stay. Flash biopsy was negative.

5/25 – Matthew Kant Cipher requested prayers for his older brother, who was admitted to the hospital with a bowel blockage. It doesn’t sound too serious, but one never knows. He also sends prayers of gratitude for each reader, and for all His incredible blessings which surround us. May our eyes and hearts be opened to clearly recognize His love for us.
6/1 Update – His brother’s hospital stay was brief and his bowel blockage resolved itself naturally. The Horde prayers were answered and are most sincerely appreciated!

5/25 – Tonypete asked for prayers for an elderly neighborhood couple. They are in failing health and abilities. They insist on living independently, yet they can’t do it. Tonypete and his wife are torn between respecting their wishes and privacy, but there are numerous LEO wellness checks each week.
6/8 – Tonypete and R have been subpoenaed to give testimony at the competency hearing in a few weeks, called by the elderly couple’s children. The elderly couple is still fighting against going to an assisted living facility. It’s just a very sad situation.

5/25 – Mindful webworker sent a prayer of thanks for the prayers of the Horde. He is alive and 90% well and 100% grateful for that. He will have more surgery ahead. He also sends thanks for MiladyJo’s hip fixes seem to have worked very well with no complications. She is getting around fine, which is such a blessing after her long time of pain and mobility limitations.

5/25 – Cybersmythe sent word that he got a job! It pays well, but it’s by the Space Center (100+ miles round trip and the traffic sucks). It should be interesting work.

5/25 – Neverenoughcaffiene asked for prayers for all people affected by the barbarity of Hamas.

5/25 – NaCly Dog sent an update, that his wife (who we prayed for last month) is almost back to where she was before she broke 4 ribs.
6/8 – NacLy Dog sent thanks to the Horde for their prayers.

5/25 – Martini Farmer asked for prayers for his grandson, who will probably not graduate from high school due to poor grades. His family is (to put it nicely) “dysfunctional”. He will be here for about a month before summer school, and will be at a non-woke YMCA camp for 3 weeks. Hopefully his perspective will change.

5/25 – Tecumseh Tea gave an update on Pastor Joe, who we prayed for when he had brain surgery in February. He recently had an MRI, and his doctor is very concerned. He has to go for more tests. Please pray for him and his family. His answer to how he felt about this new development was: “In the words of King David, May I dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.
6/5 – Tecumseh Tea sent praise to God that Pastor Joe’s recent concerning test results turned out to be an infection, which is being treated.

5/25 – R posted that he got a call from his doctor’s office that recent tests found blood …. uh…. where it shouldn’t be found. Now he has more tests coming.

5/25 – Nurse Ratched sent thanks for the prayers from a couple of weeks ago. She is healing nicely.

6/1 – Polliwog the ‘Ette requested prayers for her sister C, who has surgery to remove some ovarian cysts and anything else in there that looked suspicious. Now she has to wait for the pathology report, and recover, which is complicated by her being extremely allergic to “all” opioids. Also, she is the family’s main earner, and her disability will only cover about 40% of what she brings in.

6/1 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his BIL, who is cognitively disabled. He lives alone and normally does pretty well, but recently quit his job, which has led to issues: namely money. Social services are involved, but it isn’t going well.

6/1 – G asked for prayers for healing and strength for Uncle Joe. Joe’s wife of 50 years passed earlier this year, and now Joe is having painful back problems. He is in pain and lost without Sally.

6/5 - Teresa in Fort Worth requested prayers for friends, Chris and Debby, whose 22 year-old son (Jeremy) passed away this week. Jeremy choked on food at his daytime facility. He had Down Syndrome and autism, and was non-verbal. His parents know he is in a better place and finally free of his health issues, but they still could use comfort.

6/7 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice posted that his radiation oncology follow-up went well, and he is cancer free. He will have to do surveillance bloodwork for the rest of his life, but that’s okay!

6/8 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for her friend and running mate, P. She has been in the hospital in WI with bleeding ulcers. She is doing better now, but still needs additional healing. Thanks so much.

6/11 – Sponge clarified the prayers needed for his wife, “The First Lady”. She has breast cancer, and the initial prognosis is good, as it is Stage 1 and caught early. It is an aggressive form of cancer, and but it is the most common, so they’re feeling good about her full recovery. They meet with the surgeon next week and will know more after that.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

4 Good morning everyone. Prayers for all intentions - those requested and those known but to God.

Prayers needed for my wife's buddy Mike. He's in his eighties and suffers greatly from bone cancer. He and she are playing in a cornhole tournament today for charity but the poor guy can barely stand up and take a step. Hell of a guy.

37 If it ain't one damn fool thing it's another. Here I sit with severe sinus pain and pressure. Hubbymayhem went to pick up a trailer from my brother. Coming over the top of the hill in front of my other brother house, he sneezed. It caused him to drift left, while the oncoming vehicle with the mirrors that stick waaay out wasn't over as far as he should have been. Mirrors were clipped. Now, instead of getting the trailer so we can move rock before it gets unbearably hot, he is waiting for the police to arrive for the accident report. Did I mention that this is happening a quarter of a mile east of our house?

Saw the Princess Kate made an appearance for the Trooping of the Colors. She looked lovely. Maybe a little thinner than normal but you can't tell she's undergoing chemo.

The kids looked adorable. The boys in matching double breasted blazers and the girl in a sweet sailor dress. It's nice to see a little girl dress as such instead of like a 17 year old .

44 I was going to mention Bob McNamara.

The whole exercise of "experts' and technocrats and the rest of it goes round and round.

First of all, it is a little rich for "Democrats" to advocate for rule by experts, since they also believe in the principle of universal suffrage, whereby a large cohort of individually illiterate and innumurate people will suddenly get smart en masse and vote for really smart people. Something like that.

The next problem is they killed and ate most of the genuine experts along the way. The "experts" first and foremost have to meet certain *political* reliability specifications. Nothing else matters.

That's why "credentialed idiots" is among the chief problem in so many arenas. They know they are incompetent, but it is their life mission to fuck everything up. For a lot of people it is a hobbby (we meet them almost daily) but these are the professional saboteurs, as it were.

47 "Unprecedented", like "not sustainable" is turning into the Woke superfluous version of "actual"

Which is unfortunate - because we really are seeing a huge spike in big 'gub as well a Big Corp trying to coerce and save what would be considered our own private digital personal papers and effects. And it truly is both unprecedented - because we've never seen exactly this before - and not sustainable - because the economic and intellectual freedom needed to make such systems possible will die if the practice is not stopped.

So, of course, we'll deride it and minimize it because the weirdos are using the words. Just like conspiracy theory.

65 Saw the Princess Kate made an appearance for the Trooping of the Colors. She looked lovely. Maybe a little thinner than normal but you can't tell she's undergoing chemo.

The kids looked adorable. The boys in matching double breasted blazers and the girl in a sweet sailor dress. It's nice to see a little girl dress as such instead of like a 17 year old .

I saw that too. They seem like a lovely family and I am praying for Princess Kate's healing as I would for any mom of young kids fighting cancer.

69 Which is unfortunate - because we really are seeing a huge spike in big 'gub as well a Big Corp trying to coerce and save what would be considered our own private digital personal papers and effects.

Its easier to monkey wrench a system when people trust and rely on GIGO but at a much higher scale.

I like how modern editors are now using LLMs to auto-suggest sentence completion; where you begin a thought and the editor's "code ahead" feature acts like a lifelong mate who feels obligated to finish your sentences.

Why I like it is because our language is rich enough and there is such an inventory of expressions there is no excuse to keep generating hackneyed posts. Its a constant reminder to be varied in my communications.

On one hand, people are generally stupid and being too inventive in communicating people go into brain freeze and find reading too tedious because of the need to fire more synapses to understand what is being said - hence the crutch phrases, business jargon and clichés.

73 Why, then, is Armenia not generally recognized as the primary jihadi target that it is? Primarily because the global jihad is still widely ignored, denied, and misunderstood. Few people, and none of them are in the U.S. State Department, recognize that the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a jihad. This analytical failure has deformed the American response to this conflict for decades, and continues to do so. The Israelis themselves have never demonstrated any serious awareness of the fact that they’re dealing with an enemy with whom there can be no lasting negotiated settlement, and ultimately no peaceful coexistence, no matter how many concessions they make.

It must be a common Italian thing. Breakfast used to be a deep bowl of hot sweet milk, maybe a little coffee in it, and toasted Italian pagnotta (bread), broken up into small chunks suitable for a spoon. Slightly burnt bread for the win. Later in life it became toast and fried egg, sometimes with a small fillet steak (fillet was cheap in Africa between 50s and 60s). Now I don't do breakfast, haven't since my late 20s. I would take a couple of sandwiches to work for mid morning coffee break though.

Because the Democrats have become completely radicalized, it is more popular, but the transformation of American demographics has rendered it impossible in practice. 236 Always think critically about the language used. Their nomenclature. "Orientation" is a weasel word.

They "prefer" homosexuality. They want to argue over that, correct? No no no... "I was born that way!"

And then it's off to the races. "Gender" refers to words. Not people. Words mean things, and if you can't grok that you'll never understand what they are doing to our language. Orwell was correct about that. Careful of your thoughts, because they become words. Careful of your words - because they become actions, things that will define your life on this planet.

Yep. The thing about liberals that always amuses me is that they assume - against all existing evidence - that imposing ludicrously inappropriate penalties for their thought crimes will ever work.

Obviously, this is projection. Liberals are physical cowards and social conformists, so the mere threat of a night in jail is sufficient for them to grovel and obey. But especially in Appalachia, you're going to have defiant hillbillies for whom an evening in jail is pretty much a regular rotation.

A lot of colleges will be going out of business soon. Several closed this spring. They are too expensive, produce no benefit, and a falling birth rate means there's just not enough students to fill them.

295 Yes, it's certainly allowable to pray in private, in your closet in the basement. For now, anyway. Don't try to push it though.

My point here, "it's OK to burn your own flag" was just one bit of mental masturbation along the way. That's how we got into bizarro world in the first place.

"There is no right and wrong"

And

"I'm right, and you're wrong"

Doesn't bother these people in the slightest.

The slight problem with that argument, which has been made before, is that it is easy to disprove.

Putin has already ordered the Russian military to prepare for the resumption of nuclear testing.

325 And due to convoluted opaque financial arrangements, both navies were probably re-fueled by the same tenders.

"Trading with the Enemy" gets pretty damn complicated when nations go to war. We saw a little bit of that, or a lot of bit of that, when "sanctions" were applied to Russia, and Europe took it in the shorts with respect to natural gas and food. Between Russia and Ukraine, they represent probably 10 or 20 per cent of kilocalories produced on the planet. And then there's gas, oil, and spent nuclear fuel rod refurbs, and all sorts of icky dirty industrial type stuff that the West is too pussified to bother themselves with, while they send emails back and forth to each other to bolster the GDP for the quarter.
