Searching for that string plus "Buehr" shows other sites selling prints, and one art blogger who references this work under that title.

Odd. Everything I find points to this being called "Under the Parasol," but all of the evidence is weak.

That art blog, though, has a smaller but more vivid picture of it. I dunno if it's just down to different photography or lighting, or if it actually looks better in real life.

80 I think Joe Mannix is right about the title - "Under The Parasol" is the only consistent title I've been able to google up as well. Buehr (family likely opted to drop the umlaut) is an interesting fellow - I had no idea there were so many Chicago Impressionists. Apparently he and Monet were friends.

Posted by: John Drake Is Now At The Caspian Sea at June 17, 2024 09:46 AM (u/Zei)

81 Wow! What brilliant use of color and Impressionistic technique. The brightness is almost in contrast to the peaceful scene being portrayed. (I would love to see this one up close to follow the brush work and see how it leads to the effect.) Also, the way the foliage is entwining on the child's chair is interesting as is the look of dappled light on the standing woman's skin.

The parasol, if that's what it is, suggests to me a koi pond. Perhaps an allusion to Monet and his gardens. I need to see more of this artist's work.

That's an interesting take. I guess I'd be disappointed, in that it's uninspired and boring, but I'd be elated that he (seems) fairly conservative, and isn't one of the many more horrible choices he could realistically choose.

The best of choices, and the worst of choices.

You ever go into a new home where you have a shower, where the water doesn't come out of the shower head? They put a restrictor on. I took all the restrictors off. I took them off.

I've had the experience. I take a shower. I want that beautiful head of hair to be nice and wet. Lather. I want it to be lathered beautifully. And I get the best stuff you can buy. Long-lost Caravaggio painting of ‘extraordinary value’ shown for first time (looks like shown starting at the end of May, in a gallery in Spain). “Ecce Homo,” found in 2021 when it was about to be auctioned for a fraction of its worth, is one of around 60 known Caravaggio works in existence.

We have had an artist who did illustrations for Dwell paint both our first house, and then this one for us. We had her do another in the spirit of American Gothic with J and me as the subjects and our house as the background. I like that one because it looks very serious until people really stare at it.

This makes another event where I have skirted deadly disaster. According to my mother, we were in an earthquake in Tulsa when I was very small; she had just removed me from the bed when the ceiling collapsed atop it. Fortunately the road was lightly traveled, and I wound up, shaking, in the valley of the median strip, wondering how I'd got there.

- Horrace Mann

Right from the outset of Government Education those pushing the concept sought to separate children from parents for indoctrination.

There were plenty of schools prior to his efforts, but those weren't acceptable to Mann. He insisted that the State had to regulate, control, and dictate to parents how their children could be 'educated'. No religion, State-educated teachers, centralized curriculums, etc.

It was always designed to turn Americans into feudalists.

We moved to London a few months after the Burns' Day Storm of January 1990. It was still a big topic in the news there - it was a hurricane-force windstorm with wind gusts as high as 104 mph. Some 47 people were killed and entire tracts of forests were levelled. The damages amounted to over 3 billion pounds. Gordon Kaye from "Allo, Allo" (anyone remember that one?) was making the rounds of talk shows at that point, talking about the traimatic brain injury he suffered after part of a billboard was blown through the windshield of the car he was driving. Pretty frightful business for the Brits, especially those living in the southerly regions of the island.

Loe and behold, both were way down at or just below minimum values.

And seeing as Walter Reed is very good about self-experimentation, at my request, the Dr prescribed simple OTC strength but pharmacy provide supplements for the 90 days till y next blood draw.

And 90 days later, guess what....all were right in the middle of range.

He was introduced, and then opened with "I have to tell y'all that there's a lot of people who don't know how to pronounce the name of your capitol right. It's Viy-eener." Got a big laugh from the crowd, and that's exactly the way that a lot of folks say it in Mississippi and Alabama.

315 I knew a devout Jewish girl, and if we shared a pizza, it had to be cheese without pepperoni or any kind of meat.

If the pizza store wasn't kosher, she wasn't "devout". She might have been very traditional but not devout.

When I was a kid, one of my friends had a birthday party and his mom took us to a non-kosher pizza store. She just ordered regular pizza - but it was very tasty!

316 Aside from the obvious stupidity, isn't that non-kosher? I suppose it could have been that awful non-dairy cheese but that's a whole different problem.

317 Alan Cumming calls X-Men sequel X2 the 'gayest' film that he's ever made: 'It's an allegory about queerness'

Alan Cumming has declared that the 2003 X-Men movie X2 is 'the gayest film that I've ever done.' The Scottish actor and television personality followed up by adding, 'And that's me saying that,' during the conversation to promote his reality competition series The Traitors. 'It's got a queer director, lots of queer actors in it,' he said while making his case to Entertainment Weekly. 'I love the fact that something so mainstream and so in the comic book world is so queer.'

Makeup brand CoverGirl @COVERGIRL and nail polish brand Sally Hansen @SallyHansen partnered with a man for their pride collection to promote inclusivity. They made pride themed merchandise including trans nail polish.

How absolutely dumb. I know that I and other women go for the look of a 14 year old twink boy or a flamboyant garishly made up drag queen when choosing cosmetics. A trans nail polish? I see those at Halloween shops.

Eh. It's been well known that Bryan Singer turned the Civil Rights era focus towards gayness from the moment he got on board the film adaptations. This ain't new news.

I'd also bet money that the comics went gay allegory before the movies came out even.

Nah. That article is not even speculation. It's just a series of what ifs with a cheap clickbait headline.

I'd call it 12th Paragraph Syndrome (where you find out the truth which is the opposite of the headline in the 12th paragraph) but this isn't even that. The entire thing just goes on and on about if Biden this and if Biden that and then what it would take to get rid of him. It's no report of anything.

334 >>'It's got a queer director, lots of queer actors in it,' he said while making his case to Entertainment Weekly. 'I love the fact that something so mainstream and so in the comic book world is so queer.'

1. Wasn't that gay director, Bryan Singer, allegedly akin to Harvey Weinstein in his sexual abuse of young, male actors?! Is that to be celebrated now that he's escaped #MeToo cancelation?

2. I remember reading a review of the movie when it came out, and the reviewer (might have been Christian Toto or John Nolte) said something like "being gay isn't a superpower" because, yeah, it was pretty obviously about the 'mutants' who were gay along w/whatever special characteristic they had, such as wings..

Posted by: Lizzy at June 17, 2024 11:02 AM (cCVOS)

335 I think the X2 pitch meeting features some good commentary on the very obvious gay shit.

Basically one of the characters decides to "come put" to his parents as a mutant. That's real tough to decipher.

340 "I suppose the girl in purple is their maidservant, and the ones at table are mother and daughter. (Daughter, I guess, even though her hair is short, because she is wearing a dress.)"

I disagree. No maidservant would be dressed as provocatively as is the woman in purple; nor would she be without an apron. I think the woman in purple is mom, and the older woman at the table is her bratty daughter. The little one at the table may be a grandchild.
