Biden's "Biggest Achievement" Was Spending $1.2 Trillon on "Infrastructure."
How Surprised Would You Be to Learn That Almost No Infrastructure Has Been Built?

a) Not surprised at all, I am reasonably well-informed

b) Somewhat surprised, I don't keep up with the news

c) Completely surprised -- my pronouns are Zey/Zem

d) What are you talking about? I identify as a marmot and I am part of a polymorphously perverse polycule with various sexual weasels

Don't worry, everybody -- they spent a lot on Government Infrastructure and Racial Infrastructure. Almost as good as real infrastructure.

You will remember that Trump also tried to get an infrastructure bill through -- but Democrats refused to vote for it, to deny him any kind of a success.

Let's see how the Sage of Scranton did with $1.2 trillion that he set on fire and which we'll never see again.

Spoiler!

Rampant inflation and President Joe Biden's favoring of left-wing policies are contributing to a lack of progress on his landmark infrastructure law, analysts told the Daily Caller.

Two and a half years after Congress ratified the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in November of 2021, there has been very little concrete progress on new roads or bridges. The trillions of federal dollars the Biden administration has poured into the economy may actually be hindering the completion of the infrastructure that Biden promised to build, analysts told the Caller.

"Right now, the inputs cost 31 percent more than they did in January 2021," David Ditch, a senior policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation, told the Daily Caller. "They've been flat for, frankly, about two years at this point, but they increased so dramatically right away that even though the amount of available money for highway projects is much higher now than it was in 2021, the value of that spending is lower."

The lack of headway undercuts Biden's campaign messaging on "transforming our crumbling transportation infrastructure -- including roads and bridges, rail, aviation, ports, and inland waterways."

The Biden campaign touted it as "the largest infrastructure plan since President Eisenhower's interstate highway system."

The federal government has granted $454 billion to states across 56,000 projects, according to the White House. This commitment of taxpayer dollars would seem to make good on one of Biden's marquee campaign promises to deliver new bridges and roads to the nation. But of the 10 bridge and highway projects with the most money allocated from the bill, only one -- the $1.6 billion Penn Station Access project -- has broken ground on major construction.

As Obama was true of Obama's "infrastructure stimulus" -- which produced almost nothing except a few bike paths and dog parks in blue cities -- the purpose of this "infrastructure spending" was just another massive heist of money from Republicans to pour into Democrat precincts.

...

One of Biden's most touted campaign initiatives was to "rebuild our crumbling roads, bridges and ports," a line he has repeated ad nauseam, including when he introduced former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg to be his Transportation Secretary. Biden tapped Buttigieg, a move he lauded as "precedent-busting," to help "revitalize the nation's infrastructure," according to Politico.

Buttigieg touted the bill's expenditures as "some of the most meaningful investments in infrastructure we've ever seen in this country."

However, despite Biden making electric vehicles and net zero carbon emissions a tentpole campaign promise, Buttigieg seemed unable to explain why the administration has made so little progress during a recent media appearance.

"The Federal Highway Administration says only seven or eight charging stations have been produced with a 7.5 billion investment that taxpayers made back in 2021. Why isn't that happening more quickly?" CBS's Margaret Brennan pressed Buttigieg during a May appearance on CBS's Face The Nation.

Buttigieg maintained that the administration's goal was still to produce 500,000 chargers by 2030.

So I guess seven in three years means your right on track for those 50,000 in ten years?

And while Buttigieg has remarked that infrastructure projects take time, Ditch noted the uniquely stubborn nature of Biden's bill. "The 2009 Obama stimulus package was sold in part as funding 'shovel-ready' projects, which ended up being a dud due to red tape and delays. The Biden Administration had over a decade to learn from those mistakes and instead leaned into the red tape by adding extra mandates for ideological purposes. Worse, the amount of money in the 2021 infrastructure package was dramatically larger than the comparable portion of the 2009 stimulus, so the damage is far greater," Ditch argued.

People always complain that European public infrastructure is outstanding, but Americans won't pay for such public works.

The reason is simple: The Democrat Party steals this money in enormous unprosecuted heists. We know damn well that we get NOTHING for our "infrastructure spending," until a bridge actually collapses, and then they spend like crazy to rebuild the bridge at a furious and unsafe speed.

The money is all stolen. Stop telling us what we're getting for our trillions. We know what the trillions buys: Obamaphones for welfare addicts and foreigners.

The public might actually support "public" spending if it were actually spent on public goods for public use and was not just poorly-disguised wealth transfers to Democrat constituencies.

This is obvious to anyone who both drives *and* lived through 2009-2012 as an adult.

The last time we had one of these bloated "infrastructure" bills, they loudly advertised it. Every project that got even one thin dime from that bill had signs up that the project was made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

I've seen no similar signs since this one passed. Zero. Granted, I don't do as much interstate travel as I used to, but I'd have expected to see *something* by now. I haven't.

125 And while Buttigieg has remarked that infrastructure projects take time, Ditch noted the uniquely stubborn nature of Biden's bill.

150 People always complain that European public infrastructure is outstanding, but Americans won't pay for such public works.

The reason is simple: The Democrat Party steals this money in enormous unprosecuted heists. We know damn well that we get NOTHING for our "infrastructure spending," until a bridge actually collapses, and then they spend like crazy to rebuild the bridge at a furious and unsafe speed.

++++
That's a part of it. The stealing is huge, and the primary purpose.

But much of European "transit infrastructure" doesn't apply to the US. Yes, much of it is high-quality, but it's also inappropriate for the US. The European approach to airports and rail and even urban transit - which is what most people in government mean when they talk about "European Infrastructure" - depends on population densities we do not have here. It makes no sense, even if the money weren't all being stolen.

This is completely accurate. New Mexico, which is run by a Democrat Marxist mafia, actually has a project underway in Las Cruces, a marginally less Democrat Marxist place. The project here is tearing out a completely functional bridge and replacing it with, hopefully, a completely functional bridge that will be one line wider in each direction. In this specific instance this is a win as it is sorely needed to keep up with the new development in the area. I consider this to be an accidental outcome.

231 213 As Obama was true of Obama's "infrastructure stimulus" -- which produced almost nothing except a few bike paths and dog parks in blue cities -- the purpose of this "infrastructure spending" was just another massive heist of money from Republicans to pour into Democrat precincts.

Disney has massive cashflows, a gigantic balance sheet, a huge asset base and a significant shares treasury.

They can borrow it (bonds) against cashflows or assets, it can sell some assets (it wants out of traditional TV, for example, and has toyed with selling off ABC), it can disgorge shares from its treasury back onto the market (dilutes some value, but it can do it), etc.

Disney is a poorly run and unhealthy company helmed by malevolent idiots, but it has direct access to capital markets and blue chip status. There is a *lot* of ruin left in Disney. And since this announced outlay is for the highest-performing part of the enterprise ("Experiences," which includes the cash-cow parks that need rejuvenation and improvement), they will find plenty of bids for the bonds.

Yup. Cruise line and resort chain. They carry the whole business on the back of the "experiences" division. ESPN used to be a major cash cow, but that's under major pressure. The movie studios are nothing but a capital sink now. D+ is a YUGE capital sink. Hulu is nominally profitable, but it's probably small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. ABC just wanders along as a low-value division, too.

Disney is parks and cruises shoveling cash into numerous loosely-affiliated furnaces.

Correct. But the movie and story IP is leveraged by the parks and cruises. The parks and cruises wouldn't be as popular as they are without IP support from the movie side.

This is a monumental risk to the Experiences division. A lot of Disney IPs aren't "sagging," they're deader than disco. Frozen 3 will do well. Deadpool and Wolverine will probably do well, but it will likely be the last gasp of the franchise.

Disney *needs* IP success to feed into the "experiences" 5-10 years down the line, and they don't have any IP success to speak of. If they don't turn around the studios and get good product out there soon, it's going to be a serious problem for the primary profit-making division.

But that is a problem at least 5 and possibly 10 years out. The decline of "experiences" in the Disney IP vacuum will be assessed as an independent problem, and blamed on Iger's successor (or that guy's successor).

Nice gig, if you can get it.

The Federal government gave billions to school districts for COVID mitigation.

Many of them, such as Duval County (FL) Public Schools, used those funds to augment their budgets.

Now the money is done, and school districts have huge deficits.

I understand if your gut reaction is, "Good!" but please stop and think for a moment. The most vulnerable students in need of education rely on public schools. Our society depends on its citizens being well-educated and taught to be good citizens.

I don't know how many Morons and 'Ettes are public school teachers. Perhaps I'm the only one. I do NOT belong to the teacher union, and I keep politics out of my classroom--although I do demand that my students explain the evidence for their positions!

They could just as easily say fuck it all to everything other than all the old classic shit and make money hand over fist well into the 2040's. However I'll stipulate that if they keep "updating" their "experiences" to reflect the newer IP, they'll lose their ass because the new IP sucks.

++++
They reinvigorate the parks with newer IP, which they need to do because Disney is a multi-generational company. They can coast on the older stuff, yes - and they will do so, for a while - but when the kids today grow up and never had Disney as a big part of their lives, where will the demand be?

There's a reason they've woven the likes of "Frozen" and "Toy Story" through the parks, and it's because that is the stuff that was more-recently popular, and that the kids (and younger adults) remember and want.

There's an end date on their ability to coast without an injection of actually popular - "cultural touchstone" popular, if they can manage it - IP.

When they put out that they canceled the stupid "congestion pricing" in NYC that didn't even target most congested areas (chinatown, les, and financial district aren't congested, and most nyc congestion is now caused by the city closing roads, or making main arteries bus only, or putting bike stations everywhere)

But the politicians got what they wanted, because they spent the money, mostly enriching themselves and friends in the process, to put up all the infrastructure for the toll collecting.

417 This is why I don't vote in favor of school bonds. There is no commitment in any of this to spend the money in the manner the "estimated needs" were compiled. The school board always gave details of how they'd compiled the bond -- but they never spent the money that way. There was no compelling language in the bond to hold the expenditures accountable. It all became a blank check to the school district, to spend as they jolly well pleased.

These government infrastructure packages are no different. They cannot be compelled to be spent in the manner which they were proposed. It's all a monstrous blank check to the DNC and those alphabet agencies they run in DC.
