Good morning Horde. Happy June. Hope you are all well on this morning. Before we get into the Prayer Revival there are a few housekeeping matters (Rulz for those of you in Wrightstown).

1). This an open thread, feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2). Be kind to one another or at least don't leave marks

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
3/9 – Hadrian the Seventh asked for prayers for Her Majesty, who is having knee replacement surgery. He’d like prayers for a successful operation, but also an uneventful recovery. Her previous surgery in 2019 (on the other knee) was marked by great pain and the effect of the medication was terrible.
5/8 Update – Her Majesty had to go to the hospital again. Her incision from her knee replacement became infected. They had to open it up again, clean it out, and sew it back up again. Her medical vicissitudes with her knee and eye have made her depressed. She is home again now, and looks a good deal better than when she went in.
4/18 – Misanthropic Humanitarian asked for prayers, as he will be having his right knee replacement surgery on 5/6/24.
5/6 Update – Misanthropic Humanitarian sends his thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. He is home now.
4/27 – JW asked for prayers for Libby, who has a glioblastoma tumor that affects her word choices, so communication is very difficult. Libby has had surgery, radiation, and chemo, but is worse in the 4 weeks since treatment ended.
5/13 Update – The MRI showed that her tumor started growing aggressively as soon as the treatment stopped, plus she has 2 new inch-sized tumors near the treatment area. She is almost completely unable to communicate and feels very alone because of that. Her prognosis has changed from 18 months to maybe 4. Thank you to all who are praying for this total stranger.
5/8 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers for the young people graduating from college this weekend and beyond – that the graduation ceremonies might be peaceful, and that the young people going on to internships and jobs and looking for jobs might have a future with hope. Also for peace on college and university campuses.
5/11 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd sent thanks for the prayers for his daughter and grandchildren, at the death of the children’s father. The family began tackling the financial side of the situation last week, and learned that because of various programs, his ex-son-in-law will provide support for his children in death that he never was likely to do in life, which is a blessing. This in turn opens a path forward for Lloyd’s daughter and her children to have a place of their own.
5/11 – Tonypete asked for prayers for #4 son. 5/11 was his wedding day, and he asked R. to stand with him. She isn’t his birth mom but raised him after T. died.
5/11 – Taq, rickrolled by Jesus sent thanks to the Horde for praying for his mother the last couple of months. Her fractured hip has healed and she is walking, albeit slowly and with a cane, again. He has made several modifications to the house to make it suitable for her. She spent a month in a nursing home, one of the better ones in the community. Taq and his father spent 12 hours a day there, and half the nurses were kind and full of compassion and half were slow, lazy factory workers who seemed to resent the residents. They also resented Taq and his dad being in their workspace. Taq is grateful that God brought him here, because if he hadn’t ended up in a hospital in 2019 from alcohol, he wouldn’t be here taking care of his folks.
5/11 – Jewells said the chemo break doesn’t seem to be helping. The swelling in her feet and legs is terrible, and they don’t have an answer. When she goes back on 6/11, if the doctor doesn’t have any other options, she is considering stopping treatment.
5/11 Update – Jewells is feeling much better now that a liter of fluid has been removed from around her lungs.
5/11 – RedMindBlueState asked for prayers for a friend since age 5, who just lost her husband suddenly. Prayer for her and for her boys are appreciated.
5/11 – Mollo, lurker requested prayers for a 7-year-old named Eli who suffered a stroke. Right now he can’t talk and the right side of his body isn’t working. Pray for healing for Eli and strength for his family.
5/11 – J asked for prayers for his wife, who has been experiencing debilitating migraines for years. J prays for her. The kids pray for her. The doctors have done what they think they can do within what they know to do. Maybe she needs prayer more than anything? (Is there any doubt?)
5/14 – Nearsider has a job! This afternoon, Nearsider received and accepted an offer to work as a federal contractor. He will begin on 6/3, and will make approximately 80% of his previous salary. Thank you for all the prayers, concerns, well-wishes, and reach0outs. A very particular thank you to those of you who have hired me to build model aircraft for you – they’re all still going to get done, I promise.
5/14 – DaveT sent an update. We have been praying for the lawsuits related to his home (that a relative took loans out against) and his elderly cats. He has a GiveSendGo set up to help with the costs; please contact Annie for that information. He sends his thanks for the prayers.
5/15 – PabloD requested prayers for Nick. Nick was going to commit suicide, but called a help line and received care. Prayers for strength for him and support from his family are still needed.
5/17 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant asked for prayers for J.J. Sefton of the Morning Report. Please pray that his upcoming surgery and recovery would go very well and that he retains full mental and physical function, and can enjoy the rest of his life without worries.
5/22 Update – J.J. is out of surgery. They think they got the entire tumor!
5/18 – P asked for prayers for his brother, who just revealed that he is suffering from stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes. The outlook is not good. P prays that he remembers God is with him, notwithstanding his diagnosis.
5/18 – Dash my lace wings! asked for prayers for D, who is in ICU due to a heart attack, and for her husband, R, who is a veteran and a lover of cats and bad jokes, who will be lost if he loses her.
5/18 – Tonypete requested prayers for Carole across the street. She is a delightful 80 year old. Previously she was in great shape, very active. A few weeks ago she took ill and turned out to have previously undiagnosed heart troubles. They hurriedly replaced a valve but it didn’t go well. She continues to leak blood and now needs open heart surgery. She is tiny – no more than 90 pounds - and they fear she will not survive.
5/18 – Screaming in digital will be taking a trip to England. She would like prayers for her mom while she’s gone, and blessings for her sweet cousin who will be looking after mom, and her awesome neighbors who will be taking care of her cat and keeping an eye on the house.
5/20 – Sponge requested prayers for Lady, who had a mammogram this week and they found a mass. She has a biopsy scheduled soon, but won’t know the results until early June. She’s taking it well but is quite nervous, as to be expected. Please put her in your prayers for a clean bill of health.
5/22 – Vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby asked for prayers. She has been in the hospital since Monday with sudden dizziness and emesis. They’ve ruled out stroke. They have noticed nystagmus and it might be BPPV. She is scared she won’t be able to function anymore.
5/23 – Olddog in mo could use some prayers. He is going in for surgery again at 10 am. Squamous cell carcinoma under the tongue. It is not a good location due to the proximity to a salivary gland.
5/24 Update – Olddog sent his thanks for the prayers. Surgery went better than expected. No skin graft and so no overnight stay. Flash biopsy was negative.
5/25 – Matthew Kant Cipher requested prayers for his older brother, who was admitted to the hospital with a bowel blockage. It doesn’t sound too serious, but one never knows. He also sends prayers of gratitude for each reader, and for all His incredible blessings which surround us. May our eyes and hearts be opened to clearly recognize His love for us.
5/25 – Tonypete asked for prayers for an elderly neighborhood couple. They are in failing health and abilities. They insist on living independently, yet they can’t do it. Tonypete and his wife are torn between respecting their wishes and privacy, but there are numerous LEO wellness checks each week.
5/25 – Mindful webworker sent a prayer of thanks for the prayers of the Horde. He is alive and 90% well and 100% grateful for that. He will have more surgery ahead. He also sends thanks for MiladyJo’s hip fixes seem to have worked very well with no complications. She is getting around fine, which is such a blessing after her long time of pain and mobility limitations.
5/25 – Cybersmythe sent word that he got a job! It pays well, but it’s by the Space Center (100+ miles round trip and the traffic sucks). It should be interesting work.
5/25 – Neverenoughcaffiene asked for prayers for all people affected by the barbarity of Hamas.
5/25 – NaCly Dog sent an update, that his wife (who we prayed for last month) is almost back to where she was before she broke 4 ribs.
5/25 – Martini Farmer asked for prayers for his grandson, who will probably not graduate from high school due to poor grades. His family is (to put it nicely) “dysfunctional”. He will be here for about a month before summer school, and will be at a non-woke YMCA camp for 3 weeks. Hopefully his perspective will change.
5/25 – Tecumseh Tea gave an update on Pastor Joe, who we prayed for when he had brain surgery in February. He recently had an MRI, and his doctor is very concerned. He has to go for more tests. Please pray for him and his family. His answer to how he felt about this new development was: “In the words of King David, May I dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.
5/25 – R posted that he got a call from his doctor’s office that recent tests found blood …. uh…. where it shouldn’t be found. Now he has more tests coming.
5/25 – Nurse Ratched sent thanks for the prayers from a couple of weeks ago. She is healing nicely.
5/29 – Sponge asked for prayers as he is having a biopsy. He said the next 5-7 days will be rough.

28 Haven't even finished my first cup of coffee and disaster... big gas leak in the garage. Fuel line for the portable generator split, valve was still set to "on" so of course the gas would leak because I'm stupid and didn't turn it off last time it was used.

I made my first appearance on a daily thread in a long time last night because of the conviction. I avoid it because I find it all so tedious, but this is a significant escalation, and I wanted to warn people to read up on the Spanish Civil War because the parallels are very clear.

At the same time, we've been on this path for a while, and frankly, we've defied God so much, we really deserve some upheaval and chastisement.

I went to Confession at my local Novus Ordo parish yesterday morning. It's always a good idea to get there early, as it's only one hour and you might otherwise get behind an axe murderer, someone who had to pick that day to go for the first time in 25 years, or a woman with an impossibly convoluted explanation of something.

When I arrived, the morning Mass was finishing. There were the usual modern hymns complete with coffee-lounge piano accompaniment that makes me wonder what I've walked into.

But at the recessional, the priest turned toward the altar and began singing an old Catholic hymn, unaccompanied, in which the congregation joined. I'm not sure if it was in Latin or Spanish and while it was not beautifully sung, what was sung was beautiful.

Pretty much every NOAA station is off by 2 F when over 90 degrees. Off by 1.5 F when under 32.

Around here it is regarded as axiomatic that if there are two confessionals open, and one has hard, tattoo'd older man next in line and the other the wholesome embodiment of mature motherhood, get behind the biker dude, because those moms have a lot to say. The biker dude, on the other hand, is pretty clear where he screwed up, and just wants to clear his conscience and get back to work.

As for the Novus Ordo, our two parishes merged some years ago, and the "student site" (St. John) still smells of hippies. When I first started going more than a decade ago, it was bad - bongos, guitars and if the band really rocked out, they got applause - even during Communion! One of the young priests lost it at one point, stopping the Mass and lecturing us about keeping it sacred. It didn't work.

Happily "the clappers" (as we call them) are now down to a handful of gray hairs and no one follows their lead.

59 Continued prayers for my neighbors please. They are both deep into either dementia or Alzheimer's and absolutely are resisting moving into assisted living. This week was another exciting week for them - safety visits everyday by LEOs or social workers. A competency hearing is coming up soon - thank goodness.

I am in contact with the couple's children but they all live far away.

The biker dude, on the other hand, is pretty clear where he screwed up, and just wants to clear his conscience and get back to work.

We are trying to work it all out but what a pain. Social services is involved with him too but it isn't going well. They have these 20-something recent grads on staff that truly know nothing of the real world. Ugh.

69 I should add that our current pastor has made significant changes to both locations, particularly St. John.

The sanctuary originally faced to the east, but I guess in the 1970s they rotated it, moving the altar to the north wall to create the "church in the round" floor plan. This left the Tabernacle stranded in a corner, and there was nothing but abstract art behind the altar. Didn't feel Catholic at all.

Now the Tabernacle is up behind the altar, and a massive crucifix dominates the room. Abstract stuff gone, icons put in their place. A nearby parish is being remodeled to pre-Vatican II function, complete with the altar rail.

A coworker stopped into my office yesterday and neither of us like talking politics, but we referenced it and I said that there's no point getting worked up over it - we can't do anything about it. I then pointed out that our weather is phenomenally good, and there's so many ways to enjoy it.

He agreed and discussion shifted to weekend plans.

This is why I limit my screen time - time is better spent in my yard than freaking out online.

That being said, our pastor did talk about how you don't have to confess things you didn't do, or bad thoughts you had but didn't act on. So maybe some of that is also going on.

In Scripture, people always confess their guilt to Christ before he forgives them. This is - when possible - accompanied by instruction to fix what was done and/or sin no more.

Even St. Dismas (the Good Thief) admits his sins on the cross and is then forgiven. At no point are we given a blanket, permanent amnesty to do whatever we want.

If you take this to its logical conclusion, we should sin a lot, otherwise Jesus' redemption is wasted. I've actually seen people advocate this to reconcile their identifying as Christian while sleeping around, etc.

165 My sister C had surgery Thursday to remove some ovarian cysts and anything else in there that looked suspicious. I'm not sure how extensive it ended up being. Now she has to wait for the pathology report and recover, which is complicated by her being extremely allergic to *all* opioids including the ones most people aren't allergic to. She is also their main earner and disability will only cover about 40% of what she brings in.

Prayer for a clean pathology report, complete recovery with minimal pain, and financial provision while she is unable to work would be very appreciated.

As a convert, I can attest that actually having to tell someone what you did is a huge incentive to stop doing it. Especially when you keep doing it and the priest (correctly) notes that you can't be forgiven until you stop it.

Without that, you just keep lying to yourself that you're fine, you're saved, etc., even as sin grips you ever more tightly.

The examination of conscience is sometimes painful, but always useful. I can say without hyperbole that this sacrament has really been transformative for me. I look at who I was, what I did, and my smug complacency about it, and I shudder.

Our grandson was eager to hit-up the food trucks at the city park Thursday so we were down there in the late afternoon/early evening. Yesterday I took him to KYGUNCO (Bardstown gun store) as I needed some 45-70 Govt for a lever action rifle we shot that afternoon.

I popped in a few times to opine on the gist of a thread, but only this morning went back to read more fully about it.

From what I gather it was a shit show. But the gun store still had plenty of ammo, traffic was normal, the warmed up leftovers were fine, my trash was picked up, etc.

Yep. Government survives because it is perceived to be legitimate. The more it abuses power, breaks its own rules, "suspends" rights, etc., the less legitimacy it has. Appealing to "the rule of law" only works if the law is equally applied.

That in turn opens up space for others to take up the banner of legitimacy, using what would otherwise be extra-legal means to restore public order. These people are actually planting the demolition charges under their own foundation.

While they do that, I've got some lawn work to do.

A lot of it boils down to Yard Sign Calvinism - by these signs they are saved. Results don't matter, only intentions do.

Biden's outline of the supposed hostages/ceasefire deal, as proposed, is clearly trash. There is literally zero chance that the Israeli government proposed this deal in the form Biden articulates. No Israeli government could propose leaving Hamas as the government of Gaza, as this deal does. If any Israeli government did, it would bring down the government immediately.

Furthermore, Biden is a liar. The idea that members of the Israeli government don't care about the hostages is a vicious falsehood designed to throw support behind Hamas -- or to collapse the government from within, which is Biden's real goal.

I’ve been assuming all along that if Trump has to go to prison (it’s such an insane world now) that the secret service would INSIST on having agents with him in the cell 24/7 in shifts. The SS has an obligation by federal law to protect former presidents. Would Merchan really tell the SS to pound sand? Anything’s possible with these lunatics but I would be very surprised. He’ll most likely be on house arrest or given a suspended sentence…. But if they put him in prison the SS will be there with him.

Regarding graduation ceremonies for anything "scholastic" before the end of high school.

There was a graduation ceremony when our son finished sixth grade in the late 90s. The diverse and leading administrator for the school gushed on and on about how this ceremony was important because "many of these children will not be part of a graduation ceremony in the future."

Now, why was that, Candace? Could it be that a not insignificant number of the young girls present would have themselves a baby daddy in their near future? Could it be that a not insignificant number of the young men present would run afoul of the law? Why was the answer to those issues to stage a feel good ceremony of no account rather than to address the reasons why some children there would not have another graduation ceremony of their own?
