Trump Tied With Biden in Virginia, 42-42; Biden Won Virginia (Allegedly) by 10 Points in 2020

It's almost as if Biden is a Failed Fake President.

There is a snag, however.

That snag is RFKJr.

A recent Roanoke College poll indicates a tie between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden in Virginia--a state Biden won by a significant margin in 2020.

Key Details:

Even Match: Trump and Biden each garnered 42% support among likely voters in Virginia, with a significant 16% opting for other candidates or remaining undecided.

Third-Party Influence: Including third-party candidates, Biden slightly leads Trump 40% to 38%. Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. emerges as a notable contender with 8% support.

Historical Context: Virginia, traditionally a blue stronghold since 2008, shows unexpected competitiveness in current polling.

As you may know, Biden will be nominated "virtually" before the convention so that he can meet Ohio's deadline to be on the ballot.

But, as Ed Morrissey points out -- that means that the Democrats can't pull a convention Torricelli Option and remain on the ballot, right?

So much for all those Chicago Switcheroo scenarios! Political analysts will have to set aside months of speculation about a convention surprise, thanks to the DNC's inability to research state deadlines for ballot access -- and Ohio Democrats' desire for foreign money in ballot-issue campaigns.

As Jazz noted earlier, the dream is over. Rather than wait for the convention to nominate Joe Biden as their presidential nominee, the DNC will hold a "virtual roll call" to nominate Biden in time for Ohio's August 7 ballot deadline:

[NYT:]

Democratic Party leaders said Tuesday that they would nominate President Biden for a second term in office via a virtual roll call of delegates to the party's national convention, bypassing a glitch in Ohio law that had threatened to keep Mr. Biden off the November ballot in the state.

Ohio law requires all candidates to be legally certified by Aug. 7, but Mr. Biden was not scheduled to be officially nominated until after the Democratic National Convention begins on Aug. 19. The virtual roll call will be completed before the Ohio deadline. ...

The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Jaime Harrison, issued a statement on Tuesday denouncing the Republican lawmakers for their inaction. "Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree," he said. "But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own."

...

At any rate, the net result of this new strategy all but eliminates any convention switcheroo for a failing Biden. Before this plan, the possibility existed (unlikely as it was) that the DNC could change the rules to release all delegates on the first ballot and have a real open convention for the nomination....

They're stuck with Biden now because they will have no mechanism to replace him once that virtual vote takes place.

Well, maybe. Remember, New Jersey also had a ballot deadline which Torricelli's last minute replacement Frank Lautenberg did not meet. But Democrats ran to a friendly judge to get Lautenberg put on the ballot, in defiance of state law.

So that could happen again. The DNC has no mechanism to replace a candidate once votes have been cast? So what? What does the law matter when we have Muh Democracy at stake?!?!

But Biden would need a lot of friendly judges in a lot of swing states, right?

Or he could file with one friendly liberal Hawaiian federal judge who issues a command to all states to change the ballots.

It includes a lot of older Democrats who don't like the Democrat Party anymore, have never trusted the party of the rich, the GOP, and feel like they have no political home.

I would suspect that RFK pulls more from Biden than Trump, for sure.

I wouldn't look to public polling to demonstrate it, though. Public polling, ESPECIALLY on fringe candidates, is bullshit.

Even if the polling firm is actually trying to measure reality, the margin for error can account for pretty much all of a fringe candidate position. It's probably why third party candidates pretty much always outpoll their results.

Polling is deeply broken.

Last year, the final polls of the Louisiana governor's race showed the race neck and neck at 40-40, guaranteed to go to a runoff.

Detroit not cheating enough cost Hillary the election in 2016.

How long has Detroit been doing that? Have they stopped? What is the actual politics of Michigan?

Well, it's that too.

But polling is an expensive, difficult process in modern times where pick up rates are very low and area code long ago stopped reflecting physical location.

And media polls won't pay to fix that sort of thing, so they bake in a mountain of assumptions about how the election will go in order to make up for it.

So, even when they do try, they're working a broken system.

Trump tends to perform better than polling suggests--a variant on the Bradley effect and Shy Tory polling patterns.

For the most part, historically presidents with 38 percent approval rating do not win reelection.

Best way right now to take polls as simply trend indicators. The tide is rolling out for Biden-Harris and he has about two months or so to change the tide. Lawfare has failed as a political tactic (remains to be seen how it falls out in appellate courts or whether he is put in jail). Then you have the various invade the world, invite the world scenarios--Ukraine, China, the border, etc. that all promise unpleasant results.

Then there is cheating---it helps that Ronna and the legal all is well creeps have been expelled from the RNC, it also helps that third parties that are ostensibly non political are suing to get voter lists purged in many states.

The premise underpinning the concept is that in order to win, the non-Party guy has to win by so much that the Party can't steal it without being slap-in-the-face obvious about it, because that was a line that could not be crossed without causing an existential crisis that the Party might not survive. I subscribed to this idea, too, and was given exactly that slap in the face in 2020.

The 2020 cheat was so outrageous, public, obvious and coordinated that its success demonstrated that the line *could* be crossed without significant consequence for the Party. The root premise was incorrect, and as a result so is the entire "margin of fraud" concept.

Trump might win in November, but if he does, it's because the Party opted to permit it - not that the Party couldn't overcome it.

If you go through all the trouble of voting to pull the lever for a 3rd party candidate, you never had any real interest in voting for the R or D

That's a part of it, but I think a small part. They've removed accountability at this point, so that is less of a concern.

Transactionally, though, a Trump win would have some upsides for the Party. They could claim everything is honest and above-board, for one thing, and use it as a cudgel for *decades* (if we have that long) whenever questions about election integrity come up. More important, it would solve their Joe Biden and Kamala Harris problems and them groom the next candidate for four years. It will also put Trump in place as the bag holder for the economic trouble that's coming down the pike (which they could help accelerate, but cannot avoid), creating desirable conditions for '28. And, of course, Trump is not a real risk for the Party because they can contain him like last time.

There are potentially significant Party upsides.

This was how I thought 2022 would play out. I was really buoyed by Musk buying Twitter which happened just a few months before the midterms.

Still, 2022 happened where Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State of AZ, was able to effectively turn off signature verification on mail in ballots, a move that was so outrageous that 10 months after the election a federal court said that it was an illegal move.

Guess who's governor of AZ now.

I disagree with this, but for reasons which may not be readily apparent.

They will absolutely be able to steal the election in just as obvious a fashion as they did in 2020. They have been shown that SCOTUS will not (absolutely will not) mediate any debates between the Several States.

Barring that, they need only fear We the People, and We the People have proven we need not be feared. Even our 'insurrection' was unarmed.

They can steal it because there are no consequences for doing so.

Nah. SCOTUS is its own power center which jealously guards its power while trying to take more power from the legislative branch, which has been effectively ceding its power to both the judicial and executive branches for decades.

The only proper response from anyone in government to a "request" from Congress is the hand-jerking motion.

That is, until Congress decides to use its power of the purse, the only real power it has.

This is so unlikely that if it happened, someone - probably the person who got converted into mist by the engine - wildly violated safety protocols.

So the odd wording, if I had to guess, is because either:
1. It was lost in translation from Dutch
2. The airline doesn't want to blame the victim or prematurely assign blame to someone else who egregiously violated safety procedures, so crafted a very weird statement to avoid doing so.

353 The minimum commitment for an Air Force Academy (AFA) education is five years of active duty service, and the AFSCs that obligate cadets for the least amount of payback time represent the second most popular job selections in the aggregate. The act is known among cadets as “dive in five,” and it is borne of disillusionment and the realization that DEI entrenched military leadership, quota-based promotions, and falling standards are not what they signed up for.

They've spent Biden's term piloting the "ignore SCOTUS" strategy, and the results have been decent.

357 Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's office has instructed officials and lawmakers to publicly criticize US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for their reluctance to attend a conference on Ukraine to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, the Financial Times reported, citing a document.

358 In 2020 all the public cared about was getting rid of Trump. Ow they know what they got was a disaster. No one, no one is enthusiastic about Biden or Kamala. There has to be foot soldiers to make a cheat of the required scale to defeat someone. My take is he has lost that constituency. Biden is polling badly with POC s, young people, Muslims etc. There is no longer anything for them to win in a Biden administration.

Wonder if it was some climate protestor. Seems to be too many tears for a criminal but not enough for a tragic accident.

A 9-0 slapdown of New York's effort to intimidate people out of any association with the NRA. A very important win for the First Amendment!

We aren't a complete totalitarian state just yet. The left forgets that if the supremes don't strike this down, this could be applied to them too with their own pet causes, and they'd hate it. Imagine the government saying a bank shouldn't work with unions, or green peace, or planned parenthood.

365 No matter the name picked for vp they will be tarnished thru their association with Trump. Whether they serve 4 years or step into the presidency sooner.

If people believe Trump can't turn the ship around why expect or want a future star to go down with it?

I hope the vp pick is a staunch ally that will support Trump (my bias, I love Trump) and also, someone that can be instrumental in getting new blood elected as president in 2028.

366 >>> 147 RFK Jr is for late term abortion and "trans" child chopping. That's gonna cost Biden votes, not Trump.Posted by: callsign claymore
Also, his numerous allegiances for the destruction of the coal and oil industry needs to be front and center when anyone seriously suggests he is a candidate, let alone a viable one.

I was surprised how reasonable RFK's VP sounded in her acceptance speech; I nodded along with her carefully crafted words several times. Digging into her actual beliefs made me realize we are on VERY different pages, as far as how to execute outcomes for that which we agree on.

RFK is the same. Sounds good until I dug into the particulars. Then he's a hard pass.

I wonder how much the Kennedy compound clans throwing RFK under the bus will hurt him with the boomers that actually attach value to the Kennedy brand. They are all throwing in their lot with senile old Joe.

367 I don't understand why this prevents the Democrats from replacing Biden at the convention.

They have zero chance of winning Ohio anyway -- so they'll gladly sacrifice a spot on the Ohio ballot.

If anything, their unwillingness to accept the Ohio RINOs' mild compromise (banning foreign financing of Ohio ballot issues in the future, to get Biden on the ballot by changing state law) is evidence that the Dems have written Ohio off completely, not evidence that they've abandoned the idea of replacing Biden, as the original HotAir author claimed.

They might justify the switcharoo with a Biden health crisis, or even death, but that will just be a bit of stagecraft to make things more dramatically compelling.
