Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Cuckold Review: Republicans Have a Sacred Duty to Rewrite Ohio State Law to Put Joe Biden on the BallotThis is National Review, everyone. America's Conservative Beacon. The Democratic National Convention does not conclude until August 22, when Joe Biden is formally renominated for president. When the Democrats announced they were scheduling their convention so late in the election cycle, observers immediately noted that the timing fell afoul of two deadlines written into law, those of Alabama and Ohio, which require nominees to be submitted 90 days before Election Day (in other words, the week of August 12). The matter can be easily fixed; all a legislature need do is pass a technical bill adjusting the date, as legislatures have done frequently in both the past and present, most recently in 2020 during the pandemic. And in fact, one month ago the -- overwhelmingly Republican -- Alabama legislature acted to do just that, sending a bill to Governor Kay Ivey that made sure Joe Biden's name would not be stricken from their voters' ballots. Ohio's state house, however, has been disconcertingly mulish about acting to fix the state's version of this problem. It adjourned once on May 8, and then again on May 22, without addressing the matter. Republican governor Mike DeWine has now called for a special session of the legislature to convene in order to deal with the issue, saying, "Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting president of the United States, on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply not acceptable. This is a ridiculous -- this is an absurd situation." We agree with Governor DeWine --Redundant! As if National Review ever has to tell you it agrees with ultra-liberal fake Republican Mike DeWine. Ohio's legislature should pass a bill ensuring the president of the United States' name remains on the ballot this November. We emphasize that this is a matter of the utmost gravity. It is not -- and cannot possibly ever be -- about cheap and temporary partisan advantage. It is a question about the fundamental legitimacy of American elections. Here they masturbate themselves into ecstatic froth: Even more appallingly, were Ohio Republicans to deny Biden a spot on November's ballot out of pointless spite, they would be undermining every single argument they -- and Donald Trump -- have been making for the past several years about how government is weaponized against Republicans. National Review is a Democrat op. Has been for 20 years. Alex the Chick is a bit miffed:

Pass a law allowing the party to submit their presumptive nominee on the 90 day cut-off date. But, But, But, they might not nominate Biden!?? And again, the Dems *CHOSE* this. They knew. The *chose* to risk losing the election by default in Ohio and Alabama. They assumed - rightly, in the case of Alabama - that they'd be accommodated. That's a risk they took. If they lose Ohio because of it - and they should, as they should have lost Alabama by default - then that is the result of *their* choices.

They've spent me spam for close to 20 years now, though. Posted by: Joe Mannix -------- Rich Lowry has a lot of do with the degradation of NR with his corporate class donors coming first over any principles. Buckley started the deterioration post Cold War by purging people he did not like politically but Lowry finished the project. During the 90's, NR spiraled downward in terms of being relevant as the interesting voices were snipped off one by one or retired. The Corner, as devised by Andrew Breitbart, was the false new dawn of the NR. Quickly, the new voices rapidly became scab encrusted whores for GOPe and its deranged version of American Greatness. There are people my age who decry the 3 point shot in basketball. It's not tradition, it's a gimmick, it rewards a small skill set at the expense of a team game, etc. But it's the rule and it's the way the game is played. There's nothing virtuous in losing while not having your team take 3 pointers. It's just bad coaching to give up that weapon when the opponents are using it.

Nothing in the Constitution requires a state to place the candidate of a private entity on the ballot. Only individuals are permitted to be on the ballot--if they comply with the rules. Not really though. "Rule of law" seems very selective.
Paying off a mistress is not a legitimate business expense. He's of course being singled out because he's Donald Trump, but if you do get caught committing $100k plus of tax fraud, it's not "nothing". Nobody here supports what NY is doing (including me) but that is the "rule of law". Posted by: Bel Air You are remarkably stupid. The specified misdemeanors are quite actually not applicable due to statute of limitations so they were bootstrapped via fictitious NY state statute (which requires the act(s) to have affected state elections and not federal) or federal FECA violations which NY state cannot prosecute period as FEC has jurisdiction, not NY state. Taxes were paid via Cohen and his income tax so it was not tax fraud either. Verdict is FUD troll probable. Posted by: whig at May 29, 2024 01:20 PM (PkS4e) 415

...Merchan has instructed that the first count of falsifying business records in the first degree must show that Trump made or causes a false entry to be made. Intent means conscious or purpose to defraud. Posted by: andycanuck ===== Criminal laws like this require a jury finding of intent. The difficulty in proving intent in complicated cases is why the feds and state prosecutors often rely on collateral actions such as simple possession of proscribed items (drugs, firearms, etc.) or something like lying/obstruction by destroying evidence etc. to govt agents. Novel construction of statutes regarding 'honest work' is why Scotus overturned Jeffrey Skilling's conviction on that charge as did Conrad Black. Va Gov McDonnell was another victim of lawfare where Scotus reversed. Posted by: whig at May 29, 2024 01:25 PM (PkS4e) 440

No one seems to even bother asking WHY the Dems set their convention soooo late.
It is so Joe doesn't have to call his various fly in jet out "official visits" in key swing demographic areas(not actually meeting with many people, but making the evening News and Papers) "Campaign related" and pay his "Fair Share" of the costs...he isn't "Officially Running" because he hasn't been nominated yet, so the Taxpayers foot the entire Bill. Even though he constantly braggs about receiving Record Setting donations, he isn't spending his own funds, instead he is spending YOURS. In other words...it's yet another Grift, and the Dems expect Ohio/Alabama to change long existing Laws/Rules to cover for THEIR OWN decisions to avoid campaign reporting deadlines and compensation rules.
