CEMENT: a powdery substance made with calcined lime and clay. It is mixed with water to form mortar or mixed with sand, gravel, and water to make CONCRETE

10 There are two printers at the office, identical Kyoceras. However, I use one for this Chromebook, and the other with the Linux laptop (former Chromebook). The former prints when I hit 'print' regardless of printer status (sleep, etc.) the latter has to be fully ON before printing anything, or the document gets somehow lost in the queue. I've come in days later and found my lost document in the basket where we put forgotten printed documents.
Even after turning on the printer and printing the same document again, the first sent document stays 'lost', but will print at some random later time even if I cancel the print job. I *should* remember to turn it on every time but I don't, so it happens a lot...

Posted by: LenNeal at May 26, 2024 04:32 AM (43xH1)

11 What's really annoying about the lost first document is, I can clear my 'sent' queue on the laptop, and it won't show on the printer job screen; so it looks like it's been cleared, but it isn't; it's 'in there' somewhere and can print at some totally random moment, sometimes a day later!

We're midway, here in the U.S., through a three-day weekend. Nice to know that I don't have to get up and hurry-hurry at this time tomorrow. (That will happen on Tuesday, but it usually does.)

'Tis 80 F. in Da Swamp. At four a.m. I haven't looked to see what the heat index is; I like my hair non-white, thank you. Well, I'll take my workout a little easier, I guess.

24 Kind of Old News in sidebar -

As I suspected, the language about using force to execute a warrant is standard boilerplate on all warrant forms. Or at least that's what the FBI claims (and it seems like a simple thing to check.)
-------------------
So, what verbiage was used on the warrant for Biden's improvised SCIFs (garage and other locations he stashed classified docs) he used pre-Junta days and nominally controlled daily by others?

How about Hunter's gun vault? Ain't no mere mortal gonna be charged with firearms violations with stormtroopers going in shooting (the most recent - airport manager).

AND - How often are plain clothes advised when advised when targeting a location known to have armed security, especially when security is another LEO with superior jurisdiction?

No word on how energy-efficient it is, but given how much concrete is used every day and the problem of getting rid of it afterwards, this might be useful even if it's less energy efficient than just making it anew.

___________

Like all "cyclical" processes, it's useful for getting rid of old concrete, not making new concrete.

33 Recycling concrete is not uncommon on larger jobs.

Replacing a residential driveway not so obvious but at the landfill it may be segregated and reused as cover over the days mixed waste to crushed and reused.
Larger projects (demolished large concrete buildings) a crusher rebar seperator may be brought on site for recycling.

I've seen airfield re-paving jobs bring in crusher, screening, concrete batch plants and basically have the hardtsand tore up, run through the plants, and back down again.
Asphalt roads repaving is often done same way even if plants are invisible/offsite.

Compared results for same search terms against Google and Google blew it away. I hate Google. I still use DDG just not exclusively except when I need an image - Google's image results layout is dumb. I have the feeling Google eventually slithers in and takes over any other search that becomes popular and then destroys it.

74 I worked rotating shifts for a while at a steel fabricator. It was really hard to keep adjusting. I found that I actually like the "midnight shift". It gave me the most flexibility.

I could either stay up when everyone else was going to work or hit the sack and be awake during the day or the evening.

I was young then so that probably is a big factor.

77 The one consistent thing about 3rd shift is that in every night shift, the day people are absolutely convinced that people who work nights don't do anything. They are convinced of this. They truly believe we all just lounge around in an empty facility all night.
I'm completely serious, day people are utterly convinced into their bones we do nothing and are lazy layabouts hiding on the night shift from Real Work, which they do.
In fact all night shifts are hard work, much harder than day walkers, but little or no drama, which you simply cannot put a price on.

85 Out of curiosity, since this is such a beloved subject here, what, exactly, does anyone expect from a search engine?
What are you looking for, that is so hard to find? What do you use it for? News of a particular political slant? Part numbers? Information reinforcing an already held view, that isn't Hard Left? I admit to being baffled by endless discussion of 'search engines' as the Internet, by its nature, rewards minute bits of context-less 'information' and is not to be found in a quick search on any search engine.
I have a few sources on SubStack, and other less visible feeds, but for current News-news I consider any public, generally used search engine of any kind to be all but useless.

125 John Basilone’s story was featured in HBO’s miniseries “The Pacific” which was their follow-up to “Band of Brothers” .

Basilone’s part of the story is the most interesting of the entire series, in my opinion.

However, The Pacific was nowhere near as good as Band of Brothers The producers simply tried to cram way too much into a small space by following three different men in different units in various locations instead of following one company of soldiers throughout the entire war as in “BofBs”.

186 Do Covid-19 vaccines require refrigeration?

Do any AIDS medications require refrigeration?

Does wine taste better slightly chilled?

Yeh...Progressives should be damn glad for the invention of refrigeration.

Otherwise we would still be cutting ice blocks in winter, and chopping down trees to get sawdust for insulation.

And stepping in horse shit in the streets from the horse drawn ice carts everywhere.

188 IF one had a search engine that worked [see earlier folderol], one could quickly find that Midgley suffered rather mightily for his presumed sins and probably doesn't need the further contrived hatred of a bunch of know-nothing snot noses.

But that would require actually looking something up, and we don't believe in that any more than the Gaians do.

Trump reportedly told oil industry executives this week that he will immediately approve all of their projects and expand drilling should he win in November.

More awful things he's promised if he gets a second term:

Nothing will give a bigger shot to the economy, drive down prices and put more money in the pocket of citizens than driving down the price of fuel.

If I remember correctly, as it's been more then a few decades, the introduction of tetraethyl lead into gasoline would permit higher compression ratios which would provide cleaner burning engines and less pollution.

You will also learn why it is right to take Wiki with a shovelful of salt.

213 Don't know the difference between lead and tetraethyl lead but it was pretty stinky. HOWEVER, at the time of its introduction we had no other technology to do the job. It was apex for about thirty years.

It took computer chips to help us move from lead.

218 I think the solution is to not connect solar cells to a battery backup or the grid. Send excess power to your attic to light up some 300W bulbs, and also heat up water in an old style tub.
