Good morning Horde. Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. Let us never forget the men and women who died while in service to our country.

So let's see what is below the fold:

*****

Foreign Affairs

  • Go pound sand Volodymyr Zelensky ‘What’s the Problem?’ Zelensky Challenges West Over Hesitations. - “Shoot down what’s in the sky over Ukraine,” he said in a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times. “And give us the weapons to use against Russian forces on the borders.”

    Domestic Adventures

  • Will Trump win one court battle before trial? Revelation of secret Obama-era program casts doubt on stated reason for Trump Mar-a-Lago raid - 'The law protects only those who follow the norms of one party,' America First Legal Vice President Dan Epstein says

  • Let me say that I am a little skeptical about this claim. Prosecutors plan to use highly personal evidence in Hunter Biden trial - Hunter Biden’s former wife and another ex-partner could be called to testify, and intimate texts on drug addiction could be offered as evidence.

  • Sorry American citizen. You will hear no Deep State cog ever say. Up to 2.7 Million Noncitizens Could Vote Illegally in November, Study Warns

  • Oh For Fvcks Sake! Illinois Democrats Demand Term ‘Offender’ Changed to ‘Justice-Impacted Individual’

  • MushHeads gotta mush. Biden, 81, asks pre-selected reporters to repeat questions multiple times and suddenly shouts 'whoa' at shambolic press conference shut down by aides

  • Someone has to pay for all of the ice backs and wet backs. Mom fined $88K after kids collect 72 clams from California beach thinking they were seashells: ‘Ruined our trip’

7 I had a """""""nonpartisan"""""" group of concerned citizens note that I am not registered to vote at my last residence in TX, and it is important that we stop Trump.

I told them that I don't live in TX anymore but would love to get registered there to stop Trump.

They didn't take the bait. Just sent me a link to the TX SOS site.

9 The headline from the paper was written poorly by the reporter or editor. It should have been :"Intoxicated man arrested while teaching 14 year old to drive." I thought the 14 year old was intoxicated.

What a country we could have been if there was absolutely no cheating in elections. Something deep in our DNA (or Satan, pick one or both) must be over-riding sweet reason.

We use technology called dump trucks to move topsoil. There is a specialized piece of farm equipment to move manure, in the rare cases it is called upon for covering gardens. Mostly it is left on the field as in'place fertilizer.

And before people say, well, that's just California for you, California regulations drive industry standards as it's less expensive to have multiple regimes.

Like in trucking, fuel surcharges are based on nationwide averages, well, California's insane standards and taxes, drive up the nationwide average and make transportation more expensive, manufactures have to make CARB compliant engines, which drives up costs, and on and on.

So what happens in California doesn't stay in California.

It took just 11 years to go from “crazy thing only people in San Francisco do” to “constitutionally mandated throughout the country.”

"A caller reported that a white pickup truck drove around the round-about before driving into a ditch. As the truck backed up back onto the road, it reportedly ran over the sidewalk and hit several cones.

Police found the truck at a stop sign on N. College Street at G Street and identified the driver as a 14-year-old boy.

A man in the front passenger seat, identified as 39-year-old Jonathan Storms, allegedly told officers he was teaching a family member how to drive."

I'm guessing it's the same as always, the drunk drives drunk and then says it wasn't him driving. This guy was just pretty clever in his excuse and, like Hunter Biden, had a 14 year old handy for his needs.

    159 “Too Big To Rig”
    Reporting on Trump’s Bronx Rally.
Crotona Park – Smack in the middle of the South Bronx.
Enthusiastic peaceful crowd. Large police presence, unneeded.
Half white, 30% Hispanic, 15% Black. Good mix of ages. Not the profile of a Country Club.
Good-sized crowd given the location, but a lot closer to 3,000 than 20,000.

Trump went the full 15 rounds -- over 90 minutes. You can’t question his stamina.
Uses his teleprompter to try to stay on script, but he could ad lib riff all night.

Trump could do the same show in Peoria, and he mostly did, which I suppose is the point, no? With some local flavoring added, mostly in the politicians who joined him on stage.

I was wrong about his using the event to force the Judge/DA to jail him for violating the gag order. A local pol brought on stage spoke a paragraph. That was all. He knows how to sell, you see. Always find the optimistic angle. And be shrewd about the fights that you pick.

Two pieces of shrapnel. One of our pups says that the 1-inch square flat one, about 1/3 thick and feeling very heavy for its size is most probably tungsten. It's from within the warhead and is meant to splinter upon explosion to cut through whatever is in its path.

The 2nd piece is thinner, slightly curved and much lighter, with a length of about 2.5 inches. I assume it's part of an external or internal cylindrical tube, or perhaps part of the external warhead.

No idea whether either piece is from the Iraqi or Israeli missile. But they are keepers!

“He tried to forcefully shove it in her mouth, she backed up,” the witness alleged, according to WFTV. . .

Instead, he claimed the woman tried to grab the Communion wafer from his hand.

The woman attended a 10 a.m. service, but was denied Communion then because she didn’t know the process, Rodriguez claimed.

The Catholic Diocese of Orlando defended the priest in a statement posted online.

“The woman forcefully placed her hand in the vessel and grabbed some sacred Communion hosts, crushing them,” part of the statement said. “Having only one hand free, Father Rodriguez struggled to restrain the woman as she refused to let go of the hosts.”

I am the FOIA officer for a small state agency. I have absolutely NO problem with responding to legitimate and reasonable FOIA requests within the 5 business days prescribed by our state's FOIA statute. We can take up to 10 business days if the request is "voluminous" or requires an intensive search for not readily accessible records. I repeat, I have NO issues with requests from the public.

However.... for some reason, about 90% of the FOIA requests our agency receives are from prison inmates (excuse me, "justice impacted individuals") on fishing expeditions for obscure statues or rules that they, presumably, think will prove their innocence or something. These requests are often illegible, incoherent and seeking documents that we do not have or that don't even exist. In those cases we can deny the request or ask for clarification. Still, I cringe whenever I get one of these requests. A legitimate and genuine request from a member of the public is like a breath of fresh air to me.

    -

The worst part is recently learning that normal people have to be extremely specific in their requests to certain departments to get information that they request. Things that humans understand the moment they read the request are actively worked against and thwarted because the people involved know what is happening and are doing everything they can to obstruct it.

Something came out recently that a clearly worded request had no documents that could be returned (sound familiar, search engines?) and later it was found that one specific word or phrase wasn't used exactly, or a number was written out with hyphens instead of slashes or in a different date format.

I'm fine with the death penalty in those cases, even down to things as simple as some sort of local ordinance or school library request.

307 I have now come to believe that US involvement is the greatest single obstacle to Peace in Gaza. What I think isn't really important, of course - but what does matter is that now Israel also believes that, and Egypt has come out and said they believe that, and every other player in the region is letting it be known that Biden and Blinken's double dealing and ham handed attempts to force something have wrecked the "negotiation" process for everyone.

The US is about to get diplomatically booted out of the region by acclamation of everyone involved, just like Great Britain got booted out in 1956. Good Job, Biden.

311 What you want: An outdoor Biden rally with 100k enthusiastic people, a barn burner of a speech, top shelf musical acts, fireworks and a laser light show.

What you'd take: 3500 people at a used car lot in Dover, with a senile geezer who stumbles through an unintelligible teleprompter speech after which his wife has to help him off the stage.

What you'll get: 35 people in an amphitheatre at a Delaware community college, consisting mainly of media, staffers, security and the janitorial crew and a sleepy geezer mumbling and drooling through half closed eyes while the air is filled with the pungent aroma of dirty diaper.

Technician Fifth Grade Clifford H. Strickland entered the U.S. Army Air Forces from Colorado and was a member of the 803rd Engineers Battalion, Philippine Department, tasked with defending the Philippine Islands and training the Philippine Army. He was captured following the American surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on April 9, 1942, and forced on the Bataan Death March. He was ultimately interned in the notorious Cabanatuan Prison Camp in Nueva Ecija Province, where he died on July 29, 1942.

422 Is England's PM the only person allowed to call for a snap election?
    ----
Yes; he asks the monarch to dissolve the Parliament and gets a rubber-stamp approval to call a general election. Sunak would have had to have called an election by January [or June??] 2025 anyway so he figures now is better than going through another 9 months of bad news and being compelled to ask for a General Election then.

A government that loses the confidence of the House of Commons over a budget/spending bill will also see a General Election called but the Tories had a majority of seats over the past 4.5 years and no party backbenchers willing to vote against any Government spending bills. [That is massively rare anyway.]

It sometimes happens with a minority government where the ruling party needs anther party's votes to pass bills. The far-left NDP party is supporting Justin's Libs this way here right now but they could theoretically bring down Justin's Government any time as long as the Libs couldn't make up the difference with another opposition party like the French separatist Bloc Quebecois.

The NCAA and its five power conferences have agreed to allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the 100-plus-year history of college sports.

The NCAA and its leagues are moving forward with a multibillion-dollar agreement to settle three pending federal antitrust cases. The NCAA will pay more than $2.7 billion in damages over 10 years to past and current athletes, sources told ESPN. Sources said the parties also have agreed to a revenue-sharing plan allowing each school to share up to roughly $20 million per year with its athletes.

That was my first thought. Where are universities getting this money to pay players. And I imagine this will make college sports even worse with even less parity than exists already, as the schools with the most money will attract the best players.

I wonder if they will work out a "salary cap" for how much a player from each sport can be paid. Heck, I wonder if that even exists for NIL deals currently.

Personally, I think NIL and the transfer portal have been killing college sports. It has worked out well in some cases though I guess, where some elite players who are sitting behind elite talent at a school get to transfer and then immediately start (i.e. Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts). And then there is the case of Michael Penix, Jr. who was able to transfer from Indiana to Washington and increased his draft stock immensely playing for an elite team.
