willowed: Pro-Palestinian protesters hit the streets of Philadelphia again on Friday evening. Police were called to the area near 34th and Walnut streets before 9 p.m. The protesters took to the street after a group of them entered the Fisher-Bennett Hall on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Wife said a bunch of them were arrested. New Mayor is very much law and order type. As a black woman I think she is allowed, it's in the constitution or something. Thanks for the prayers for my son, everybody. He graduated and has relocated to PA and is living with other people. They live in what was probably a boarding house many years ago and share bathrooms, a kitchen and a common area.
I found out yesterday that son is not just doing research online. He is actually going out to farms to test things and look at plants. His manual dexterity is not that good so if you could keep him in prayer for that it would be appreciated. Thanks. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 18, 2024 08:49 AM (XkYcA) 15

Had a very strange experience this morning.
I pull into the Walmart parking lot and suddenly get an urge to pray for something, but I'm not sure what for. As I'm walking across the Walmart parking lot, I get a text on my phone from one of my church buddies. He asked us in our men's group to pray for his infant granddaughter who is scheduled for surgery very soon. Naturally, we all prayed in agreement with his request. But it was a very odd feeling to get that urge right before his text came in. Question for the Horde: Are stove top percolators any better than automatic drip coffee makers?
Is the coffee better or what? I believe it is better but it could just be bc that's how my grandmother and mother always made it unless they used the little metal espresso guy I do French press tho. have all these fancy coffee machines here and I just always use the French press Posted by: BlackOrchid at May 18, 2024 09:14 AM (s3qiR) The lovely and caffiene craving Mrs naturalfake is very coffee savvy due to working in a snazzy coffee shop while in college. Her opinion is that French Press without a doubt makes the best coffee. She also thinks it's not worth the effort unless you're willing to buy really good coffee, not add milk or sugar or insect powder or whatever to your coffee, and have time to sit around a savor it. Soooooooo- we use an automatic drip and it's just fine. In theory, stove top percolators give you the worst coffee, but again if that's what you like...who cares? Drink what you like and prefer. Bingley? So you're a Jane Austen fan, eh? Me too. My favorite Austen novel is "Persuasion" There was just some article on the internet about people finding some biographical information about Austen's navel brother, but the writing is so spidery and old they're having trouble reading it.

I wanted to give him a name either related to that uni/library or a literary name. He's happy and friendly, so I thought Bingley suited him. "respectable" and "large fortune," not so much. Actually, Wickham or Willoughby might have been a better choice, as he is a bit of a lovable rogue. My cousins have opened a residential treatment facility for boys and young men who are sober. After coping with their son's alcoholism they discovered there were no follow-on placements after traditional 30- and 60-day crisis intervention.
They are both completely insane and I am so proud of them, and pray for their success. Even when he was a little kid he kept "files" with "information" he wanted. A 3-drawer file cabinet in a 10 year old's bedroom. Insane, right? Posted by: San Franpsycho at May 18, 2024 10:07 AM (RIvkX) 196

- The key appears to be water temperature. IIRC it's between 195-205. There are pots that will indicate that they're guaranteed to reach and maintain this sweet spot. I know our Bonavita does because that's why I bought it (well, that and it was cheap). I think Bunn guarantees it now, too. Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette at May 18, 2024 09:51 AM (XjtdB) My wife drinks water brewed with burnt barley, and there is a burnt corn as well, it is a Korean thing. I used to drink it after I got through with my couple of cups of coffee in the morning when I was home all day, working. She bought it at H Mart Pero is a commercial version of that you can get in some stores, it looks like powdered coffee, but is made from toasted grains there are other things to drink, one I like is the very tender tips of blackberry runners brewed in boiling water. It is more of an herbal tea, and is supposed to be good for you somehow. I drink lemon balm also. I use a metal straw made for drinking Mate for my loose leaf herbal teas since I hate spitting out bits of leaves. Posted by: Kindltot at May 18, 2024 10:31 AM (D7oie) 236

Posted by: javems at May 18, 2024 10:15 AM (8I4hW) --- I had a memory from early childhood come to me a couple of weeks ago - nothing special, just waking up on a sunny morning and attacking my parents in bed. It was just very clear, and probably provoked by the grandkids doing the same thing to us, but I had to wonder if I had fabricated it. When I talked to her I asked her about it and she just laughed. "That happened every day!" I guess those are probably the memories we lose track of because they're so common. Anyway, it was interesting. Another thing that I've noticed over the past couple of years is that old memories have new context to them, and this in turn is changing my perception of the past. To all the people raving about "civilian" casualties caused by Israel: how can you tell?
Hamas has no rank badges, no unit crests, no uniforms. By the Law of War, they're all combatants. The whole point of having uniforms is to protect civilians. I think that the West has gone soft because we haven't had an existential conflict since 1945. Israel is in one, so they don't have time to play games with self-defeating rules.
