I like the lighting. The dark clouds in the background provide a nice contrast to the bulls in the light in the foreground. Their colors contrast too with the rest of the scene. Meanwhile the human is in earth-tones which hides him a bit. You don't see him until later. The focus is on all that beef.

This is such a complete image to convey the artist's wishes. The accurate musculature of the animals, including the dog, the poses of the bulls as they fight, the impression of unbridled, natural power of the animals is echoed in the stormy clouds and the deep, dense greens of the landscape. Even having the bulls slightly off center emphasizes the sense of movement and struggle as the animals fight for domination.
Brascassat was famous for his animal scenes and landscapes and I can see why. Posted by: JTB at May 15, 2024 09:48 AM (zudum) Posted by: David French's Wife at May 15, 2024 09:48 AM (JCZqz) 76

This scene shows the breakdown of civilized disagreement in the first half of the 21st century.
One of the bulls favored the development of "plant-based" and "lab-grown" meat substitutes to stop the slaughter of his kind for food, but the other bull believed that such developments will lead to a bovine population collapse and the pointless slaughter of his brothers due to economic culling. The incident started as an Oxford-style debate, but the participants started attacking each-other's lineage and the fight broke out when the second bull questioned the accuracy of the records for the first's paternal line. Once the fight was finished, the debate coordinators continued under Oxford rules and ultimately declared a debate winner. Paul had begun to despair over the deteriorating conditions in the neighborhood and could get no help from the city to keep the area around his business clear. That's when an idea struck him. After an infrequent street cleaning crew came through, Camarata brought in a dozen massive planters, each with a huge, spikey cactus growing in it. He arranged them on the walkway so there was no room to put tents up there again. Then he brought in a dozen more. The homeless campers moved around the corner.

The Biden administration has told key lawmakers it is sending a new package of more than $1 billion in arms and ammunition to Israel, two congressional aides said Tuesday.
It’s the first arms shipment to Israel to be announced by the administration since it put another arms transfer — consisting of 3,500 bombs — on hold earlier in the month. The administration has said it paused that earlier transfer to keep Israel from using the bombs in its growing offensive in the crowded southern Gaza city of Rafah. The congressional aides spoke of condition of anonymity to discuss an arms transfer that has not yet been made public. ... you'd think they would have learned by now to just keep quiet Posted by: SMOD at May 15, 2024 09:58 AM (RHGPo) 121

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner resigned last week. There is no way he could have remained in his position after the scandal of 260,000 incident reports labeled “Suspended — Lack of Personnel”, or SL were discovered. Two assistant chiefs have been demoted and one executive has resigned. The new mayor, John Whitmire, has a real disaster on his hands. The strength of an ordinary placid dairy cow is beyond what most people think. I had to get a gate closed behind a cow once. She decided the hay outside the enclosure was worth het attention. I was young, big and damn strong and that milker pushed me aside as if I wasn't there. Now multiply that power many times and add an 'attitude' to get an idea of the power shown in this painting.
There's a reason the human in the scene is relatively small. He is tiny and weak by comparison and can have no effect on the situation. Posted by: JTB at May 15, 2024 10:01 AM (zudum) 140

Adam 12 had used Mopar products the first few years of the show, then switched to AMC Matadors. Pete Malloy got a top line Matador coupe for his personal car, which was shown in several episodes. Scientific papers typically include citations that acknowledge work that informed the research, but the suspect papers included lists of irrelevant references. Multiple papers included technical-sounding passages inserted midway through, what Bishop called an “AI gobbledygook sandwich.” Nearly identical contact emails in one cluster of studies were all registered to a university in China where few if any of the authors were based. You can swap one leftist with another and it doesn't matter. They are act the same in political office. But our side is made up of individuals, and not enough of them. If Biden got replaced with any other national level leftist figure it simply doesn't matter. His voters don't care, and if the replacement wins would give the exact same policies as Biden. No poodle bashing! We've had eight poodles over the years and they were wonderful, intelligent, loving pets, whether raised from pups or adopted as senior rescues. Of course, we treated them like dogs, not frou-frou nances. I know the history behind those poodle clips and always thought they looked foolish unless the dogs were going to retrieve waterfowl from cold water. My major complaint about some breed standards is how impractical and difficult they are to maintain. As an example, cocker spaniels are supposed to be playful, small game retrievers with practical coats, not dust mops that will sweep up every leaf and bit of dirt on a walk. It's not the dogs, it's the people. Posted by: JTB at May 15, 2024 10:25 AM (zudum) 204

Charles's picture:
https://shorturl.at/rBJVY Posted by: Kris While I don't like it, it does have an interesting effect of drawing the eyes to the face, which is a well-enough likeness of the king. This is in contrast to Obama ivy-nightmare painting, where the leaves distract and obscure the face, which is ironic, as it's the most important part of a portrait. The background of most official portraits can seem boring and pointless, although they can be used to allude to critical moments in the person's life...I shudder to think what the lone item in the background of Charles' painting (a butterfly) symbolizes. To be fair, I believe Trump turned down the PDC debates also because they would be held after half the country had already voted.
IIRC, it was also because he wouldn't sign off on the usual crowd of media hacks as moderators. That's why Biden's people are demanding only MSM moderators. Posted by: Archimedes at May 15, 2024 10:54 AM (CsUN+) 304
