Wednesday Morning Rant

mannixape2.jpg

At Least the Aliens are Winning, Right?

Last week's jobs report was underwhelming to say the least. In the wake of the headline "not as much as growth as expected" conclusion, the junta unsurprisingly trotted out the same old tired lines as always. Bidenomics is great. America is back. Don't let the wreckers gaslight you into thinking things are bad. Etc. You can set your watch by it, just like Obama's "green shoots" and "jobs created or saved."

One of the downsides to press coverage on the employment reports is that it ignores - probably because the "expert" journalists don't even know about it - everything outside the executive summary. The internals of BLS reporting are often interesting and if you want any context outside the headline number and the biggest movers by economic sector, you have to dig in and learn what to look for. Journalists can't usually be bothered, if they are even capable.

One of the more interesting data tables recently has been A-7: Employment status of the civilian population by nativity and sex, not seasonally adjusted. This table is a straight year-over-year comparison. In the most recent report, it was April of 2023 vs April of 2024. These are still BLS numbers and they are decreasingly reliable, but the methodology used to derive those numbers is consistent and so internal comparisons are both possible and useful. What does this table tell us?

There are several data points in the table, but some stand out.
Domestic vs Foreign Labor Participation Rate

  • April, 2023: 66.7% (foreign-born); 61.5% (native-born)
  • April, 2024: 66.0% (foreign-born); 61.7% (native-born)
Domestic vs. Foreign Unemployment Rate
  • April, 2023: 3.1% (foreign-born); 3.1% (native-born)
  • April, 2024: 3.9% (foreign-born); 3.4% (native-born)
One more stands out to me, which is the unemployment rate subdivisions by both nativity and sex. The unemployment rate for foreign men went from 2.7% to 3.7% year over year. For foreign women, it went from 3.6% to 4.3%. For domestic men, it went from 3.4% to 3.7%. For domestic women, 2.7% to 3.1%.

Domestic men have lost the least in terms of unemployment. Domestic women are still in the best shape in absolute terms but their relative move (+15% unemployment) is second-best, ahead of foreign men with foreign women rounding out the pack. Domestic women are the only group that saw an increase in the labor participation rate, with all other groups seeing lower participation than in April of last year.

(As an aside, there is one group that is very clearly advancing, even if not economically: foreign population as a whole. The domestic civilian non-institutional working-age population went from 220.115 million in April of last year to 219.976 million this year. The foreign number went from 46.328 million last year to 48.089 million this year - a staggering 3.8% increase in a single year. Want to know why the border is open? This is one of the reasons.)

But economically, who is winning in Brandon's economy? Nobody, actually. Unemployment is up across the board and participation is down in most areas. Nobody wins under Bidenomics, at least not enough to push the averages. Those in the best shape are just those who are losing the least for now.

How are remote jobs given to people in India and Canada and Brazil and Mexico factored into all these job reports?

For example, the auto industry has replaced direct hire American workers with contract hire remote workers in India, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

There is also the case of someone like me who was fired as a direct employee, but I was able to go back to my old position as a contract worker on $25k less salary. How is that factored into the job reports?

It made me wonder how many of our semi truck drivers weren't english speakers. I couldn't find any details, but I did see that immigrants are 20% or so of our long-haul truckers. Cities will have 50% or so immigrants driving locally.

33 @8 at the typical commercial grid usage, half a ton of coal would charge a Tesla 3 for a year. You do have to pay for the conversion, of course. You can't just shovel it in.

Commercial power plants, with their pulverizers and air-jet combustion, are a very efficient use of coal. You can't get that kind of mileage in a stove, for instance.

It has become common to see immigrants communicating with locals via phone translation app. Probably Obamaphones. Have had to do this myself. They hold out the phone so you can talk into it. There's now a large subculture of drivers from the various 'Stans, because they've also been at it awhile. We have an Uzbek truckers' cafe out by the Turnpike. Good kebab, but the prayer room is a little unsettling. Used to be the drive-thru.

Will always remember the interviews in Detroit during the Obama Administration where interviewees actually thought that the money for the "free" stuff was coming from "Obama's stash" in the White House.

I have always known since I started following politics that "the government" does not pay for anything. Budgets are all made up of taxpayer dollars. Nothing is "free". Everything is paid for by someone other than "the government". The government simply spends American taxpayer dollars. But too many people in this country think that "the government" actually pays for things or can give away things as "free". (i.e. "free healthcare!")

85 @8 at the typical commercial grid usage, half a ton of coal would charge a Tesla 3 for a year. You do have to pay for the conversion, of course. You can't just shovel it in.

Commercial power plants, with their pulverizers and air-jet combustion, are a very efficient use of coal. You can't get that kind of mileage in a stove, for instance.

You have to account for transmission losses, though, and for losses in the charger itself, and for the energy lost as heat in both the charge and discharge cycle of the batteries. None of which negates the fact that Teslas do run on coal, and not sunshine or unicorn farts.

Yes, they could take a 60-40 election the other way and steal it now. Up the ballots in CA and NY to overcome the popular vote. Steal the vote in 6 urban centers in "purple" states.

How many millions of ballots does that represent? Remember, in the 2022 midterm, the PA SoS sent out 250,000 illegal, unasked for mail-in-ballots to be cured. The estimated number of fake ballots in PA alone for 2020 was 1 million.

Thing is, you don't want the natives stabbing back, so you have to take away Swiss Army Knives.

Also, being forced to go meatless is just being practical once you've confiscated all the cutlery.

From the natives, of course. Stabbing is such a fundamental tenet of Mohammedism that they'll retain knives. For religious reasons, you see.

Fixing that before presuming people interested in being in government would be honest would be worthwhile.

My point is that Democrats have made so much ground that even if the RNC is genuinely trying and making up some ground...there's A LOT left to take back.

It's extremely doubtful that they can do a whole lot more than making one area of one part of one method of fraud take a single step back, all while Democrats just keep on everywhere else.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. I've yet to see evidence that I am, though. And no, new laws don't sway me. They broke the old ones. They'll break the new ones, too.

And knowing that, we now have to look at Texas, which is ripe to be rigged and stolen. It went from solid red to purple within 2 election cycles. +1.2mil (+16%) in 2012 to +807k (+9%) in 2016 to +631k (+6%) in 2020.

Anyone who thinks the Deep State is not planning to steal Texas is naive. They can easily make up 631k vote difference with illegal alien votes. So hopefully the GOP is paying attention to Texas and not ignoring it like Hillary ignored historical blue states MI, PA and WI in 2016.

Mom and Dad sent me one in Vietnam (still have it with a newer one, the big blade now sharpened to about half of what it used to be). Just a handy thing to have in your pocket, not a weapon (maybe one of last resort). People joke about the tweezers and toothpick, but they have come in handy. Used to be a go to gift, even for the ladies. Quality that's useful.

City of Houston.

Drive anywhere, walk on any sidewalk, smell weed. I step outside my house in the burbs, and smell weed.

People have been sold this weed is harmless horseshit, in large part because decriminalizing means no more reasonable suspicion to detain based on the odor, so black people are stopped less. That's the real reason for Houston's de facto decriminalization.

Couple years ago, guy took an exit near me at 80+, jumped a curb Dukes of Hazzard style and killed a teen girl who was sitting in a parked car eating an ice cream cone.

This is the future.

As Ace might say, you're going to enjoy decriminalization, but you aren't going to enjoy it much.

I often wonder how this kind of thing sounds to The Mushy Middle.
Posted by: Oddbob

The middle won't hear. The article was long, boring and pointless. Let me distill for you:

...hardcore originalist Justice Clarence Thomas says the Constitution’s “equal protection” does not apply to gay marriage. The phrase appears in the 14th Amendment, which was ratified in 1868, an era when the average American would never have conceived of gay marriage...

Originalists are not completely frozen in time...the prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures, originally meant to stop the constable banging on your door in 1787, now applies to the government snooping through the contents of your smartphone. It’s the same idea, even though the execution of the idea has necessarily changed with time.

He understands!?

Another charge against originalists is that judges apply the theory inconsistently...a right can be stretched to the breaking point. Originalists say the “right to bear arms” covers flintlock muskets as well as AR-15s, even though these two objects are vastly different.

No.

270 On the other hand, if the Marxist left has made these gains in Texas over last two election cycles without cheating, that's even more worrisome.

The Valley and urban cities have always been Dem voters . At least we sent a strong message to Shelia Jackson Lee in Houston. Man how I hated voting for a Democrat.

272 There is a distinction between incompetence and militant incompetence. Sometimes they seem to reject anything new just because they're gonna show those whippersnappers what's what.

Or more likely, they have a very limited skill set, and couldn't get big paydays for doing new things because they don't know how.

I am infinitely more worried about RINOs than the Left. One thing that should also give you hope is the fact that the pro-pot ballot measure in Lubbock went down in flames over the weekend.

How old is it, I wonder? Most 767 crashes are because, well, someone in the cockpit wanted it to crash.

They threw everything they had at him and now they have nothing left.
1) none of their endorsements matter now
2) their paid shills in the Con, Inc. are ignored, even laughed at.
3) their money? They just dumped $150 million into Halley who got slaughtered in every state
4) 50 of their top incumbents resigned before 2018; their NeverTrump that remained? Lost primaries, retired, etc.
5) they lost the RNC leadership and, worse, near 200 of their best embedded operators
6) none of them will get jobs in a Trump administration this time

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 08, 2024 12:02 PM (XkYcA)

Hi Fen - if I may gently answer this - Merchan is under District 1 (not 2, Whig) and I have heard from a couple of people that the District 1 appellate Judge (a liberal lady to be sure) is unhappy with Merchan's violations of the procedural rules assigned to lower courts (supreme court level in NYS. for some reason)...and will recommend him for Judicial conduct review for it...can't have people go off the reservation - they don't care about Trump, but they care about order in the lower courts...
