54 From Wiki:

Art historians have sometimes seen the painting's treatment of Venus and Mars as a broader commentary on gender, showing femininity ultimately conquering masculinity. Venus, goddess of love, is here equated with femininity, emotionality, and pleasure. Mars, god of war, stands for the masculine ideals of strength and determination. The triumph of Venus, according to this interpretation, shows the capacity of emotions and pleasure to overcome strength and determination.

93 More Wiki-

At over 3 m (10 ft) high, it is an imposing work. Set before a temple floating in the clouds, Venus, the goddess of love, and her followers, the three Graces and Cupid, are shown taking away the weapons, helmet, shield, and armor of Mars, the god of war. Mars allows himself to be disarmed and gives in to Venus's charms.

118 I don't usually associate Jacques-Louis David with a sense of humor but there is a playfulness in this painting that underlies the brilliant use of mythology, color and detail. Given the brightness and size of the painting it must have been startling to the viewers.

In a strange way I don't care for the painting. David's technique is so smooth in this one, with no hint of brush strokes, it removes some of the artist's hand work. This could almost be a photo of a scene rather than a painting. That takes away some of its appeal for me.

That reminds me of a story. . .

I believe it was concerning Clara Bow, but it might not have been. Let's presume it was. It seems that her boyfriend of the moment came over to her place a little early and heard the unmistakable sounds of lovemaking coming from the bedroom.

Slamming the front door behind him, the boyfriend charged into the room to see a frightened Clara in the altogether, trying to cover herself with the bedsheets. Looking around for the bedroom miscreant, the boyfriend pounded on the closet door - "Come out of there, you cocksucker! I'm going to kick your ass ten ways from Sunday!"

The closet door opened and who should come out, face red and dressed only in his BVDs?

That is one of the problems with the left--locking them up a few years won't cure them no more than locking criminals up. When let out, they will simply resume what they did that put them there in prison in the first place.

There is a reason that a lot of rulers in the past seem to be monsters by killing a lot of potential challengers. In part, society let them do it at the time as preferable to interminable civil war which inevitably hurt civilians to the power struggle worse.

Crude estimates have roughly a 30-40 percent dead ratio or greater for losing combatants in order for a lasting peace to be obtained by the winner.

282 Social Security and Medicare will run out of money in just over a decade, a new report warned Monday...project that Social Security will be insolvent by 2035, and Medicare by 2036, which would force benefit cuts.

I heard that some cutbacks might be needed by 2035, but not insolvency. How about letting the Feds pay back what they've stolen from their convenient piggybank?

They been saying this shit for 50 years.

Social Security is an easy fix. Just raise the limit of income that can be taxed. 500K would get the job done for the foreseeable future. Medicare's a bit more complicated, but future funding can be assured if the Democrats gain control of both Houses of Congress plus the White House. Cuts in these vital programs should never happen.

Reagan created a wealth gap. There isn't a law that states we cannot undo it. Tax corporate capital gains, siphon from inheritances, and tighten corporate tax avoidance schemes.

Social Security can be fixed relatively easily by a combination of tax hikes and raised age for retirement. It is Medicare that is effectively out of control and fixing that will require much higher taxes or vast cuts in it.

Medicaid is under the general budget and is also exploding due to Obamacare and nursing home care. Took about 728 billion in total federal and state spending last year and that also hikes your state tax bill as states have to finance about 30 percent of it.

352 I might but I don't find much of the political and personal idiocy disclosed to us via the 'news' as much to laugh about. Too much like the allegorical ship of fools.

------------

Don't know about the rest of you 'rons, but the most difficult aspect for me witnessing the exponentially-increasing & intentional destruction of virtually every Western virtue, value, institution, and artifact over the past four years -- and being a male who's natural inclination is to ACT and to PROTECT and FIGHT BACK when the enemy has drawn first blood (not to mention a bit of a control freak) -- is not being able to ACT in any effective way on my own (aside from prepping and keeping my finger on the pulse of insanity).

This is why I wish Trump or another leader of our movement would "unite the clans" and engage tens of millions of patriots to ACT -- whether it's targeted or national strikes, or whether it's millions of acts of Irish Democracy.

As I frequently lament here: WHERE the hell is John Galt?

354 The demented meat puppet is giving a speech on antisemitism. Polling must be horrible on this. I wonder if he will manage to get through without denouncing Islamophobia?

355 This is interesting because I think of David as a painter of the French Revolution and First Empire, all marble, togas, and heroic ideals, Napoleon's favorite painter.
This painting shows that he sang to a somewhat different tune before the revolution.
