The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
Pro-Palestinian activists staged a protest at the annual March of the Living in Poland on Holocaust Remembrance Day. The activists went to Auschwitz to protest the march, which is held each year to pay respects to victims of the holocaust and chanted "stop genocide" and waved Palestinian flags at attendees. The march was attended by survivors of the Holocaust as well as those who survived the October 7 attacks on Israel. Images show some protesters wearing yellow badges resembling the stars that Nazis forced Jews to wear.Aside from the ancient historical animus, we have two additional sources for anti-Semitism: the post-modern fixation on victim-hood, and the cultural and religious hatred of Jews by Arabs and Muslims. Of course post-modernism simply feeds into the traditional Jew-hate of the left, and gives it an additional point of purchase. Sadly for Israel and worldwide Jewry, the left is expert at manipulation of the masses, and social media has given them an incredibly powerful tool. Now they can reach the mushy-brained, apolitical, ignorant college freshmen who used to be obsessed with confounding mommy and daddy with their disheveled dress and weird boyfriends/girlfriends. Now they can be part of a worldwide network of similarly ignorantly disaffected youth who are part of a concerted effort by the hard left to de-legitimize Israel, and deplatform Jews! The fact that they have no understanding of the issues, and can't name the river or the sea means nothing to them. They are fighting the power! They are questioning authority! How exciting! Israel and some Jews are fighting back, using social media to counter the baldly ahistoric claims. But it is a long road, and they are far behind. Absent a significant political change, the next generation of Jews, both in Israel and around the world will have to contend with the rise of what can only be described as 21st Century Nazism. The traditional resistance to that sort of sentiment must change. It seems to be changing in Israel, where a mostly united populace has resisted the leftist calls for accommodation. In the West it is a slower process, but American Jews (Europe is almost certainly lost to the Muslim hordes) must fight back with different tools, and must reevaluate the traditional connection to the Democrat party. The liberals who once controlled it have been subsumed in a sea of hard-left sensibilities that are savagely opposed to Jews, Judaism, and Israel. What are the new tools? Physical Self defense. One-issue voting (unequivocally support Israel and Jews, or lose the Jewish vote). Deny all financial support to the new Nazis in academia. Sounds simple, but it isn't.

I object to this idea (from an article this morning) that Jews are the "canary in the coal mine" and the first target of the commie Left.

They are only coming for Jews now because those other groups were already shut up and down.
This is not to minimize any actual victimhood, obviously. But until you recognize the tactic and the operation, you can't do anything about it. To posit that Jews are first is a laugh. There you have the problem with "tech school" education, in a nutshell. For generations, technical school was the last resort for those who were "too dumb" to go to college, so the courses were paced slowly, with tedious repetition, because that's what seemed to work for the not-so-bright and and not-so-motivated. They are finding it hard to adapt to a student body that is college-smart, but unwilling to put up with the college bullshit.

Or it doesn't happen, in which case it likely *won't* happen. Like dogs and porcupines. I had a dog that had a run-in with a porcupine and ended up with a face full of quills. Off to the vet. The vet showed us how to remove them safely after he said, "Some dogs have this happen and never go near a porcupine again. Some dogs have this happen and become obsessed, and will go after a porcupine every time no matter what. If your dog is one of those, you need to know how to do this."
The dog was one of the latter type. He couldn't resist the porcupine. Some people are like that, too, and will not change causal behavior. For the ones who aren't, that kind of disaster tends to be a lasting lesson. I hope she is one of the ones who aren't.

You have a huge blind spot if you don't account for how many people are ambivalent, if not hostile, to Jews in the west on account of their perceived association with the hard left, specifically *in* the west, in academia/non-profits/activist orgs.

A bunch of people got together and said, "there is a middle ground between cloistered or stand-offish orthodoxy and not practicing at all. We can practice *and* integrate." The Reform movement was born. What became the Conservative movement looked at Reform and said, "you're on the right track, but you went too far." What became the Reconstructionist movement looked at Reform and said, "you're on the right track, but you didn't go too far enough."
Conservative Judaism's problem is likely that it's too close to Orthodox. If you're going to go that far, why not go the whole distance? I disagree with this, for what it's worth, and I think the Conservative sect is valuable, but it may be a prevailing attitude.

We live in a place where Democrats don’t win anything. So it’s all about virtue signaling. And still after Democrats collectively said fuck the Jews, they’re still 100% onboard.
Do they represent every Jewish voter? Obviously not. But I also doubt they’re an aberration.
And I like these neighbors of mine. They’re pretty cool. They’re not a typical leftist couple. The guy drive a pickup truck. They have a 4th of July BBQ every year open to the entire neighborhood.
But their identity is so wrapped around being Democrats, no matter how left the party goes, they will never leave.

I'm peeved that I can't find where I got the link for that post. It was AG Hamilton twitter talking about being Jewish as an identity more than a religion. That Jews feel about Israel the way someone French feels about France or someone born into an Italian family might feel abut Italy. In my opinion the left's foot soldiers, the outrage mobs are on the front lines of what I call 'this simmering civil war.' It's ideological in nature. I don't think it'll matter to the movers and shakers whether you're white, Christian, conservative or whatever.

In re vocational training, the current jargon is Career/Technical Training. The community college where I now live has a range of programs of various durations, and they have a high success rate in job placement. Courses in semi-truck driving, welding, industrial and architectural design, machine shop, electronics, computer programming - the list could go on and on.
And they make it work. The students taking those courses (and to be fair, their counterparts in academic majors) can't pass Fundamentals of Math, which is a combination of basic math plus what used to be called Beginning Algebra. But the Career/Technical instructors are able to get them to master those skills and apply them successfully to their area of specialization. Partnerships with local industry and state support virtually guarantee jobs.
Career/Technical is the way to go for so many students, and that awareness is growing. The Math results I mentioned earlier also indicate that K-12 is not getting the job done in STEM courses, despite those being the focus of special attention and the recipient of most funding. Remediation is what most colleges and universities have to focus on.
