The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The vastly entitled "students" currently shutting down some of our elite universities have exposed the generation-long shift from a society that allows youth to suffer the consequences of their actions, to a society that allows children (and these people are absolutely just spoiled little kids) to skate through their first 20 or 25 years without any sense that being jerks might earn them a punch in the nose.

When a group of lawbreaking students takes over a building on campus, then hilariously demands that the university feed them, the time is long overdue for a national discussion about how we have raised a generation of spoiled brats who think that they are not only entitled to all of the benefits of adulthood, they are also entitled to the accommodation that culture makes for children.

The First Amendment of the Constitution is clear. Speech, however vile...however stupid...however ignorant of reality...is legal. Trespassing and destruction of property and kidnapping and assault are not speech, and these effete elitists must learn the difference.

Sadly, the lesson that these "protesters" are learning is that they can break the law with impunity, and their punishment will be: nothing. That teaches them that the hecklers' veto is alive and well and living on campus and, more destructively, on airport off-ramps and city intersections and lecture halls.

And when these children march off into the real world after graduation (and they will be allowed to graduate!), what will they bring to the work force? Imagine the job interview!

Of course many will do no such demeaning thing like actual work. They will remain at the universities, then slide effortlessly into government or NGOs that are currently being showered with government money. They will be a new generation of parasites in the bureaucratic state and its supporters in the quasi-government organizations that do the government's bidding when it is inconvenient to act directly. And even worse...in 10 years many of these children will be the vanguard of a new generation of activist professors...molding the mush-brains of a new crop of undergraduates!

I can hardly wait!

I refuse to break out the pom poms for the cops. Too many of them are nothing more than evil people driven by the lust for power and in truth are no better than the criminals they are arrayed against. Especially in today’s time. But that being said, for the professionals out there who are simply out to do right by society, the best thing you can do to help them out is to smack your kids from time ti time for misbehavior. (Or whatever punishment that you, the parent, determines works best. So long as the kids are disciplined.)

73 Heh,

Trump's trial is close to the "DID YOU ORDER THE CODE RED!" stage with Stormy.
--------------

Stormy Daniels is sticking to her story about having sex with Donald Trump -- despite his lawyer's theatric bids to get her to admit she's lying.

"You made all this up right?" Trump attorney Susan Necheles asked at one point

"No," Daniels shot back.

"You story has completely changed hasn’t it?" Necheles asked later, raising her voice

"No!" Daniels replied.

This is probably true, but I wonder how many dodges are involved. Campus cops are hated by students, but they are there to *protect* students from consequences. By handling things in-house, the colleges can make a lot of shit go away.

How many actual students were quietly handled internally, with only the most radical of them - and the outsiders - left behind for the real cops?

95 Why Biden Won’t Abandon Israel. WILLIAM KRISTOL AND ANDREW EGGER

Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza has created enormous political peril for President Joe Biden...Why has he stuck to his guns? He laid it out in a speech at the Capitol commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day yesterday:

"...people are already forgetting. They’re already forgetting that Hamas unleashed this terror. It was Hamas that brutalized Israelis. It was Hamas who took and continues to hold hostages. I have not forgotten, nor have you. And we will not forget."

even as rifts grow between Netanyahu and Biden, the latter’s speech yesterday made it clear his basic position on the war is unchanged: Israel should do more to minimize civilian casualties, but those casualties are ultimately the responsibility of Hamas, and the United States believes Israel has the right to strain every nerve to root Hamas out of Gaza.

99 Notice we never get casualty figures from Ukraine. Not how many soldiers were killed, how many civilians. There is never any talk about a ceasefire. No pressure to come to the negotiating table. no discussion about whether the ethnic Russians in the disputed territory actually want to be part of Russia.
Meanwhile, every day there is constant pressure for Israel to stop what they are doing. To allow the evil Hamas terrorists to continue to send rockets and infiltrators to harm innocent civilians. No recognition of the perversion of humanitarian aid used to build up an underground army to attack a peaceful democracy which esposes all the DEI crap these people say they want.
The absolute insanity that it is okay to murder, maim, rape and cut off heads of innocents in the pursuit of any ideological cause used to be considered a crime against humanity. That this is now acceptable to a large demographic makes me despair.

That absolutely is HR. That is not personnel.

The personnel department should have a very limited and focused mandate. They deal with shopping for and selecting the medical plan and retirement plan vendors. They get the checks out on time, and deal with errors. The ensure legal - but no more - compliance with labor law and handle complaints and reports about potential violations of labor law. They handle the paperwork for hiring and termination, and respond to information demands from the government for things like unemployment benefits. In some interpretations of "personnel department" roles, it can also include conflict mediation, but I think that is optional.

Nothing else should be there. "Corporate culture" is not their job. Hiring decisions are not their job, nor are firing decisions. Workplace policies - outside of the narrow definition of explicit law - is not their job.

The fact that the ballot systems even permit this tells you all you need to know. This is not a difficult problem to solve. Double-scans should just be rejected automatically. They broke the old laws and got away with it. Why would new laws change that dynamic?

The hinge is the court system that allowed it two cycles in a row. Will the court system allow it again?

If they were actually afraid of the people, they wouldn't have allowed it all again in 2022, but the people didn't rise up in violence. They were cowed into submission on 1/6. The Democrats will cheat again. The courts will allow it again.

I get that. I was being somewhat sarcastic. But the problem of election and/or voting corruption isn't static. Just because it's fixed in one county doesn't mean it can't reappear elsewhere.

It's like wack-a-mole. It'd be better to fix the machine so the mole never pops up.

HR handles payroll and benefits in most companies. And that is more or less all they should do. Administration and paperwork. You can add conflict mediation if you really want to. At no time, for any purpose whatsoever and in no context should HR have anything to do with policy unless it is *specifically* related to legal compliance with labor law and labor liability.
