"Trump Is Going to Win:" Swing Staters Prefer Trump

A poll from Kaplan Strategies puts Trump up over Biden by 15 points in Michigan.

Six months ahead of the November election, former President Donald Trump is leading Democrat incumbent Joe Biden by a whopping 15 points in Michigan, a key swing state. According to a Kaplan Strategies survey, the former president polled 51 percent to 36 percent in the battleground state. The margin of error for the survey was plus/minus 3.5 percentage points.

Is this a sign of something? Nah. It's an outlier. No other poll shows such a blow-out race. Every other poll has it close in Michigan.

Other polls have also shown varying results for Michigan. An Emerson College/The Hill poll released earlier this week indicated Biden trailing Trump marginally in Michigan (44 percent to 45 percent), while a Bloomberg News and Morning Consult poll suggested Biden ahead of Trump (47 percent to 45 percent).

Of course, to be close in Michigan is a coup for a Republican...

Also, it's worth pointing out that outlier polls exist. When Marist or MSNBC trumpets a poll showing Biden with a narrow lead in national polling, remember, this Kaplan poll has Trump up by 15 points. There is no #BelieveAllPolls movement. Some are just wrong.

The recent polling news for Trump is mostly good. The new Bloomberg poll has Trump ahead, everywhere.

What do you mean, "everywhere"?

That's not the only poll showing Trump ahead -- the Emerson poll has him winning in all seven swing states, too.

And I repeat: Trump always gets more votes than his polls suggest. There are a lot of shy -- or browbeaten -- Trump voters who won't tell pollsters they're voting for the Bad Orange Man.

The latest Emerson College/The Hill poll reveals that former President Donald Trump holds a slight edge over President Joe Biden in all seven key swing states, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Key Details:

Trump leads Biden by four points in Arizona, three points in Georgia, one point in Michigan, one point in Nevada, five points in North Carolina, and two points in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Independent voters favor Trump over Biden in five of the seven states, with Biden leading among independents in Georgia and Wisconsin.

Emerson College/The Hill also included polling of key Senate races in Arizona and Pennsylvania, with Republican candidates Kari Lake and David McCormick steadily gaining over their Democratic opponents in their respective states.

A CBS/YouGov poll finds that Trump leads Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and is just behind Biden in Michiganistan. Trump leads -- barely -- in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by a single point in both states, 50-49. He is barely behind Biden, 51-49, in Michiganistan.

This poll has a lot of bad news for Biden. Although abortion gives Biden a lift, he's behind on the issue of the economy, and the increasingly-salient question of whether he or Biden had a successful presidency.

Voters rating the current economy vs. the economy as they remembered it under the Bad Orange Man:

economylookingback.jpg

In 2020, voters said that Biden "understood voters like us." Now that has flipped and Trump has the edge on the issue:

voterslikeme.jpg

In Pennsylvania, near-majorities say they'd be better off financially under Trump, and worse off financially under Brandon:

pennslyvaniaeconomy.jpg

This is another poll that finds that Trump does better when RFKJr. is not named as an option -- in other words, Kennedy is pulling more from Trump than Biden.

In Michigan, with the presence of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. the net gap between Mr. Biden and Trump is the same, but Kennedy looks like he's drawing more interest from the kinds of voters backing Trump than backing Mr. Biden.

Most of those picking Kennedy in a four-way ballot test backed Trump initially in a two-way race with Mr. Biden, including leaners.

This is a problem for Trump. Trump's core voters are a mix of conservatives and old-school blue-collar Kennedy-era disaffected Democrats. With an actual Kennedy in a race, some of those voters defect.

Sad:

46 We've had 3.5 years to destroy Trump since the Election. Why aren't we ahead in the polls, and what needs to happen to ensure victory?

The early elections including the one in NY Tuesday prove to me polls are bs. No one paid attention while, for decades, Republicans flooded lower courts with conservative judges. The end of Gerrymandering will help keep states from so much voter suppression.

In the primaries, so far, Trump has lost a lot of voters to Haley and others. This is not a good sign for him. It is a good sign for Biden as he may be able to pick up some of those voters who appear to be never Trumpers.

Most major MSM outlets don't call out Trump's crazy and authoritarian shit.

Because we are "nice" and "go high when they go low". We think it’s in bad taste to do the equivalent of the tan suit or the Swift Boat stuff. We bring pillows to a gunfight.

You have to go to list and frame designs. You essentially use the geographic frame with personal interviews to correct errors in the statewide polling list frame to find out the unknowables baked into the cake using phone or internet polling.

That's actually interesting. Most people (based on increasingly weird and unreliable statistics) are worse off now than they were in 2019, even 2020. There is a direct, easy comparison between the two with little time distortion. But that also isn't the question.

If I were being honest with a pollster - and I wouldn't be, which is probably why they don't call me - I actually don't know how I would answer this. When the 2024 election comes, I will likely be unemployed and my immediate future is going to be declining regardless of who wins. 78 Michigan voted in 2022 to pass Proposal 2, which puts election cheating into the State Constitution:

Proposal 2 added the following policies to the state constitution:

-- creating a nine-day early voting period;
-- requiring voters to present photo identification or sign an affidavit when voting in person or applying for an absentee ballot;
-- requiring the state to fund a number of absentee ballot dropboxes;

Proposal 2 also added constitutional language saying that "harassing, threatening, or intimidating conduct," as well as laws, regulations, and practices, that have "the intent or effect of denying, abridging, interfering with, or unreasonably burdening the fundamental right to vote" are prohibited.

Incumbent elections by and large are based on a referendum. From all signs, the economy will get even worse, the Fed cannot cut interest rates or inflation will soar, and disorder fairly or unfairly is blamed on the incumbent administration.

The biggest factor for when Democrats would win or not, is their turn out the vote effort. Mail in balloting me that so much easier for them.

They have learned a lot since their were doinked in the ass last time. Democrats are in danger of getting way too far over their skis and being caught red handed. It's one thing when the courts are trying to catch up on the issues and using that as their premise to allow electoral fraud and unconstitutional irregularities. It's another when the GOP has purposely prepared the ground by bringing suits in advance that force certain decisions. It's not foolproof, but it requires a more detailed and precise ruling due to the prior cases. It's why Democrats are trying to really push the no verification, no ID, no signature match, voting after the election, same day registration, no citizenship validation mail in process. That's their main fraud avenue they feel has untraceable ballots.

PA sent out 250,000 illegal mail in ballots in 2022 with no legal reason. It was allowed.

PA was ordered, in 2020, by SCOTUS, to not mix dated and undated mail in ballots. They did it anyway.

Please, excuse me for thinking that the GOP will be as unsuccessful this time of convincing the PA system and the federal system to do anything as they were the previous two times.

Also, I remember you putting down the new RNC leadership because the dude was a fool who just stoked Trump's ego for talking about stolen elections.

146 I generally believe the "shy Trump voter" theory, but let me suggest a "shy Biden voter" theory: Even liberals hate to say out loud that they're voting for an idiot who's now also senile and who is the worst president of the last 50 years.
I mean, they're still going to vote for him, but maybe even Liberals know how stupid that is.

They are also going to cheat in Texas. Texas is a battleground state in 2024. President Trump won by only 6% in 2020 (631k votes).

That margin was 1.7mil (+23%) in 2004 and 1.26mil (+16%) in 2012. 807k (+9%) in 2016.

A 631k vote margin can easily be made up with votes from all the illegal aliens who invaded Texas over past 4 years.

To some extent, the desperation of teh Dems is that their whole future is Democrat promoted by Ruy Texiera is a dead dream. Texiera himself ( like Fukuyama before him on democracy everywhere) is crawfishing away from that position by claiming that it is because the Democrats forgot to actually act in the people's best interest and rely solely on identity politics.

Trump has the potential to actually realign the polity in 2024 but to do it will have to fight his own party, Dem cheating and lawfare, and the permanent bureaucracy and he does not have time on his side due to term limits and age.

Black swan events will apply to the party in power is how that goes. Worsening economy, terrorist attacks, etc. will not cause a rally round the flag because Biden's junta is simply incapable of generating that sort of appeal and incapable now of any coherent policies for fear of upsetting the hard left. That is why Gaza is still an open wound for the Dems months after the actual event. That is why even with the horrendous effects nationwide of unrestricted open borders will continue to be hated by a majority of the US voters, and so on. Biden's junta is divided over doing anything to end that wound as well. Then you have spending out the wazoo by fedgov, the shipping of billions to Ukraine, etc.

227 214 Abortion is still a major issue. I know everyone has confidence that it’s just a state and local issue, but look what happened to Michael Dukakis over the death penalty.

I’m willing to give Trump some major slack on moving to the middle on abortion.

I’m hopeful people stop making it such a focus, but I’ve seen polls where it’s the number one issue among female voters

Posted by: Benchmark at May 02, 2024 04:31 PM (RKkAM)

I'd be willing to support a moratorium on this issue from the conservative side if it meant we get to actually unfuck our government.

If Trump moved to the middle and then started with the helicopter rides, it'd be worth it.

238 ALIEN 2hr 05min is getting a play at my local theater.
I invited The Kid to go see it as I never did Back Then. In subsequent viewings I love the FX and that alien ship! What a triumph.
But the human behavior, like all popular horror movies, has always irritated me.
So I'm supposed to go see this revival of ALIEN, which I have never seen on a big screen, knowing I'm not going to like it that much. Can you love a movie for its asthetic and not the other parts? I still love the 1982 BLADE RUNNER despite all its flaws. I admit it's because of Deckard and Rachel's love scene in his flat.

During Rona Panic The Kid took me to see THE THING, 1982, and man that was AWESOME. Wow did that hold up. Scary as shit.

So I guess I should just go to see ALIEN.

Yes, but I think you're overthinking it. COVID? Political corruption? Warmongering abroad? Enabling terrorists at home? Sure, all that and more. Malfeasance is as broad as it is deep, and touches everything. No one thing - not even a thing as big as COVID-related perfidy - will be "the" thing.

The country is broke. We're out of money, short on influence and no longer have the ability to enforce our whims abroad and externalize consequences beyond our borders. Barring either radical and extremely painful reform or a sudden new industrial revolution, the goose is cooked.

So yes, we're in the "loot the empire" stage, but I don't think it has to do with any one thing specifically, not even the evils of the COVID era. The trigger, when it is found, will likely be minor in the grand scheme of things. It often is. "The last straw" needn't be a heavy one.

Posted by: dantesed

We go into discontinuity land there as every state has laws that actually throw out election results if they exceed the margin of victory or registered voters. That only works in the relatively few states that allow same day registration and it becomes infinitely more challenging electorally to get people out there to do it in person. Works for races in places like NH for the Dems, probably will not help them in a place like MI (the Dem majority just created same day registration and voting there).

So, if the Dems are willing to roll the dice by trying to do something like that, you get a discontinuity nationwide with unpredictable results for everyone including the Dems. It won't be a repeat of 2020 this time as a majority of voters already believe that was a fake result as well.

Obvious fakery again risks systematic failure of the whole voting scheme and end the regime itself along with the Deep State for a time.

Divorce rates in the USA have been constant since the 1600s. The change is the improvement in male ability to provide. Generally men who couldn't provide stayed single and were the 'Uncle'. We know that the Biden WH removed the question about citizenship and then "adjusted" the results to benefit multiple blue states.

Having Trump win in 2024 makes the story more plausible for a Dem to win in 2028 and, therefore, control the 2030 census.

They do but a lot of that is because they drank their own Koolaid and are now in Jim Jones land. Street level hustlers used for the steal are far more cunning than the POS Democrat party leaders and movements without the peons behind them get purged. Hustlers are always capable of just pocketing the money and walking away. The Dems cannot afford to try to discipline them.

Essentially in country after country, the wheels are falling off the left's disastrous policies spurred by a bunch of nihilistic oligarchs congregating at Davos.

They push it, they are likely to live in fear from the plebes droning them for the rest of their miserable lives. I've been following some of the drone wars in Ukraine and it is fascinating how the ground level troops are using them in unintended ways to harass and kill the enemy which leads to countermeasures that are overcome by new designs and so on.

370 I voted for Trump because I loathed Hillary Clinton (and Joe Biden), because I thought it would be a good idea to have someone who was not a professional politician as President and because he seemed energetic, smart and funny and had positive ideas. I can't say I ever thought about jumping his bones. If I were going to want to jump a President's bones it would be Washington if I were around at the time-because well- Washington-and Calvin Coolidge who seemed very bright and had a dry sense of humor.

I didn't say you, I said her. The point wasn't about rational decision-making, it was about the knee-jerk emotional response. For some women, that knee-jerk is that Trump is the "bear" in the original analogy. For others, that knee-jerk is arousal. I have no idea what the ratio is.

384 The thing that breaks the camel's back on the DC elite is the retrenching of America out of the global order as the whole notion of global trade goes up in smoke.

We know the reinvestment coming back to the US, but it is not coming back across all areas. Texas, Tennessee, Indiana are basking in capital investment. California, NY, and Illinois are not. As the global trade networks fray into regional or bilateral trade agreements, the need for USD will decline.

There will be no single specific global reserve currency because the world will not need one. This makes it impossible to export inflation and hide overspending. This kills all the beautiful people's reason to live. The next Civil War will be the economic winners (almost all red states) telling DC to take a hike. And DC cannot do anything about it.

392 The old "they wouldn't dare" routine that serious conservatives have been rolling out for the last forty years. Strangely enough - the Dems always seem to dare.
Posted by: Its Always Been This Way

That is actually bullshit. A lot of the fakery was on the margins--after all Bush still got the Presidency in 2000 despite the last ditch attempts by the Dems to overturn it via fraud and lawfare.

You push it to eleventy and you get some reaction just like a few tylenol are tolerated but taking the whole bottle results in a poor outcome.

The Dems are defeatable just like the Commies are but a lot of people curiously want to be defeated just like the French in 1940.

Nothing is forever, trees do not grow into the sky and all trends must end. Death and taxes are about the only certainties in life and humans are working on death. I think advances on that is part of the reason that the oligarchy is behaving the way it is and now openly genocidal. They think they will live forever but don't want the plebes to do so.

MI in 2022 passed a new law, now in effect. It provides for 9 days of early voting. No ballots will be counted unless they're postmarked on or before election day.

A voter requesting an absentee ballot must sign an affidavit, or present a photo ID, to receive an absentee ballot.

This new law has been determined to be constitutional by MI state courts.

This is new. I submit that MI is going to be less hospitable for fraud.

I don't direct this at you, because I respect your posts. However, too many posters here just dismiss all discussion about polls with some cheap cynicism about Dominion, or something.

As Ace correctly points out, Trump tends to do BETTER than the polls show.
