The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

How have America's universities become hotbeds of rabid Islamist rhetoric, foaming-at-the-mouth Jew-hate, and flat-out anti-American insanity?

It's simple. It was purchased with Arab money. Oh, Academia was primed for that sort of crap, since those beliefs are its default, but for a long time was some rough balance. Academia actually had a vibrant, if small conservative/libertarian presence. They also had brains, so their influence was out of proportion to their numbers.

But oceans of oil money began to flood the hallowed halls of our elite (and not so elite) institutions. It paid for endowed chairs for anti-American and anti-Israel professors. It paid for embedded Islamic Studies departments. It paid for university-affiliated NGOs carefully putting forth the pro-Islam/anti-West cant. And it paid for full-fare students from those oil-rich countries, plumping the coffers of these schools with cash that had a catch.

Arab Funding of American Universities: Donors, Recipients and Impact

Moolah from Mullahs: Arab countries are bankrolling American colleges and universities.

That catch was simple. Make Islam and the savage authoritarians in the Arab world objects of admiration rather than disgust. The Emir of Qatar isn't funding classes examining the vile treatment of women in the Muslim world, or the regular, state-sponsored murder of homosexuals, or the destruction of Jewish minorities within many of those countries. And of course some of that funding went to call into question the legitimacy of the state of Israel by framing the "Palestinian Question" as the pinnacle of post-modern victim-hood.

So a generation of mush-brained undergraduates were taught to see the savage terrorists of Gaza and the West Bank as Jeffersonian freedom-lovers whose highest aspirations were to live in peace and harmony on the land that was stolen from them by those pesky Jews.

The always perceptive Melanie Phillips makes the simple and chilling point that:

The significance of these campus insurrections is far greater than support for Hamas or even murderous hatred of the Jewish world. The universities have become ground zero for the Muslim Brotherhood's strategy of Islamising the west.

And that's the whole point. Military invasion is out of the question, because Islam was long ago overwhelmed by the West's military and technological might. Muslim countries are consumers of Western modernity, and simply cannot compete.

But they can take advantage of the West's abject stupidity and ignorance of the foundations of Islam, and its singular focus on conquest and destruction of the West.

In CJN's latest podcast, Michael Walsh made the obvious but almost universally ignored point that we should believe Islam when it speaks of the destruction of the West!

Well, here's something the Irish and the Jews have in common, but yet we still haven't learned the lesson, because we're both stupid, which is if somebody says, "I hate you and I want to kill you," believe them.

There it is! Islam doesn't even bother to pretend. It is in the charters of all of their innumerable terrorist organizations; it is in their holy books; it is in their sermons.

Until we admit that Islam is a malign influence...until we admit that their 1,400 year war against all unbelievers is alive and well...until we fight back...we will continue to lose.

And right now, ground zero of that war is on our college campuses!

It might've been mentioned at the HQ already, but apparently some Middle Eastern Muslim priest was on an interview and discussing how there were lots more violent activists waiting for the word to overthrow the government than there ever were in the ME nations where they keep doing it over and over.

It's enough of a plan that the Muslims are openly discussing it on air now.

Money *always* has a catch. Always. Nobody gives the stuff away. Every transfer of money is, without exception, a purchase. And the purchaser in this case got the value he demanded in exchange. If he hadn't, he would have quit buying.

The Arabs wanted to buy influence, and went and bought it. It's immoral , sleazy, evil and the rest, but it was a straight-up cash transaction. I have much more ire for those who sold it, and the systems that enabled it.

All the Arab money in the world wouldn't have bought what they wanted if the universities weren't ready. willing and eager to provide it. The transaction couldn't have happened if similar sellers in government hadn't enabled them.

The interesting part to consider is that it would be the same as what we're watching at the universities.

The Muslims would have the freedom to do what they wanted, and they'd get what they want or get some of what they wanted. Lather rinse repeat.

Which is why I think Islam is going to win. To get to the point you're describing requires two things:
1. Overcoming the cultural headwinds and systems that make such a belief - let alone talking about it - criminal
2. An equally powerful belief that the system is worth defending.

The first could feed the second, but it also might not. At *least* as big a problem as framing criticism of Islam as criminal and evil is the erosion of cultural conditions to the point that too many people don't think those conditions as worthy of defense.

"Have become"? They always were since at least the 1960s. Abbie Hoffman and those of his ilk were but early versions of the creepy, smelly Self-Gassing Jew flogging far-left activism that transparently had as its end game (or maybe middle game) the murder of Jews.

I think it goes back even further than that, to the radical commie movement in the 20s and 30s.

It's just that 100+ years later, the college radicals and leftwing scumbags don't bother even trying to hide it any more. And yet still -- still! -- there are loud Jewish voices supporting and even leading the charge to the gas chambers. I'll never understand it.

This is where I am. The universities were ready and willing - even enthusiastic - to sell themselves to the Arabs. They had already been "softened up" and subverted well before.

In a way, it's a sort of ironic form of repayment. The Arabs accidentally gave the USSR an extra 15-20 years of existence when they executed the oil embargoes. The USSR accidentally gave the Arabs massive gains in the West by subverting our universities.

Yes it is. Reliance on outsiders for all one's living including not being able to feed one's own country while breeding excessively is not 'success'. In fact, the failures of these Islamic states is largely what is driving their yutes to the West where they live off the natives. But, the failure to adopt what the natives do and be productive is essentially destroying the willingness of the natives to have these 'guests'.

After the Shah fell, the rich folk in Iran started sending their kids to boarding schools in Europe...places such as Germany had to take them because they were "refugee" children. So they grew up in the West. Finished school, and their parents told them get into a college and stay in the west, and, oh by the way, oversee our investments. Finally many of these kids had to head home (money stayed in the west) and they don't like it.

I had bought a few shares from some company and you get to vote for the board and on some other issues shareholders submitted. I don't normally buy stock but I do have a 401K so this is new to me. With my vote I could in theory vote out leftists in the company leadership and to force the company to drop things like DIE.

The shares I own in that 401k get voted on by the leftwing holding companies running them right? What if that was changed so instead the people with those 401ks get to vote their shares instead? Wouldn't that have potentially a major impact on corporate governance?

I was ignorant and fortunate to have stumbled into both -- starting at a Liberal Arts college and getting a B.A., which taught me how to write, before getting a B.S. in an engineering discipline (where the best course I took was one on Technical Writing).
