The Dream of Saint Helena by Paolo Veronese is a captivating painting that depicts a significant moment in religious history. Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, is seen in a dream where she is visited by angels who reveal the location of the True Cross, the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. The painting reflects the importance of faith, divine guidance, and the power of dreams in shaping the course of history.

Helena "the cherubs keep pooping on everything"
Posted by: Smell the Glove at May 06, 2024 09:46 AM (5S+sK) 64
The UK National Gallery page for it:
https://is.gd/oVX6EB Helen or Helena was mother of the first Christian emperor, Constantine. She dreamed that an angel revealed to her the location of the cross on which Christ was crucified and urged her to travel to the Holy Land to find it. She dug up three crosses and, by testing their healing power, was able to identify Christ’s, known as the True Cross. Saint Helena sits with one foot up on a stone bench in a window alcove, her head resting in her hand, her elbow on the window ledge. As she sleeps, two winged cherubs appear in the sky carrying the True Cross. The deterioration of the pigment smalt has caused the sky to turn from pale blue to yellow-grey. Veronese’s painting has probably been cropped at the top and bottom. It was clearly designed to be seen from below, and may have been painted as decoration for an organ shutter, perhaps with a now lost opposite shutter showing Constantine. Netanyahu normally does not use this forum to speak in English.” This is what he had to say to whom it may concern in the English-speaking world:
Eighty years ago in the Holocaust the Jewish people were totally defenseless against those who sought our destruction. No nation came to our aid. Today, we again confront enemies bent on our destruction. I say to the leaders of the world: No amount of pressure, no decision by any international forum will stop Israel from defending itself. As the prime minister of Israel – the one and only Jewish state – I pledge here today from Jerusalem, on this Holocaust Remembrance Day: If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone. But we know we are not alone because countless decent people around the world support our just cause. And I say to you: We will defeat our genocidal enemies. Never Again is now. "Woild the f*cking cherubs please shut up! They're giving me a headache!" 😯😀
The National Gallery, NG200, Paolo Veronese, this painting "Helen or Helena was mother of the first Christian emperor, Constantine. It was clearly designed to be seen from below, and may have been painted as decoration for an organ shutter, perhaps with a now lost opposite shutter showing Constantine." Well done but I'd pass hanging. Thanks. Posted by: L - If they do it with you, they'll do it to you, too at May 06, 2024 10:10 AM (NFX2v) 133

I'm not a fan of cherubs although these are exceptionally well rendered. But the portrayal of Helena is wonderful with her sleeping pose, the soft colors and folds of her clothing and beautiful skin tones. What really caught my eye was the wood of the cross. It is so solid and realistic, even to a knot in the cross piece. It's such a contrast with the dreamy pose and soft image of Helena.

Even though this is a simple image compared to others by Veronese, like the Wedding At Cana, it must have had a huge impact. Think of an audience that isn't inundated, and senses dulled, by a constant barrage of images: TV commercials, billboards, signs in stores, even at the gas pump. Then you come across a painting of an emotional event, one that demands your attention, that you can stare at from a few feet away. The effect could be overwhelming.

All that really ended up happening in 2016 was 70% of Jewish voters voted for Hillary and the Republican share of Jewish voters went from 30% for Romney to 24% for Trump. Democrat share increased by 2% from 69% to 71% (I guess there was a lot of third party voting). This was supposedly because Trump was anti-Semitic, or something. White House Briefing Room - FACT SHEET: Vice President Harris Announces More Than $100 Million to Support American Auto Workers and Small Auto Suppliers Today, as part of her Economic Opportunity Tour, Vice President Harris will join Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, and Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su in Detroit, Michigan to announce new funding and resources for small- and medium-sized auto manufacturers and autoworkers. "For decades, trickle-down economics drove manufacturers overseas at the expense of good-paying manufacturing jobs that sustained the American middle class. Thanks to President Biden and Vice President Harris’s Investing in America agenda, since they took office, companies have announced more than $170 billion in investments in electric vehicle (EV) and battery supply chain manufacturing, making the U.S. the global leader for EV manufacturing investment, and the U.S. auto industry has added over 250,000 jobs, after losing 90,000 jobs under the previous Administration..." I hate to say it, but we were better off as a nation when the Cuyohoga had an octane rating.
