Hello, everyone! Thank you for your prayers. The memorial service was last Sunday, and my daughter seems to be doing better. Things around Chateau Lloyd are settling down and the prospect of an early spring is just what we need. Nothing like playing outside and taking trips to the playground to soothe the kiddos.
It's also time for spring cleaning, and finally rationalizing what we have here. The former son-in-law's death has brought needed clarity to our domestic situation. I think my daughter hoped that he'd have a miraculous conversion or something, straightening out his life and supporting her and the children. As we have seen, that was never going to happen, so now we can make more realistic plans to get her life back on track. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at April 27, 2024 08:19 AM (llXky) 50

Good morning, one and all. It's been a rather busy week around the house and still going strong. My wife runs a dogsitting service and one of our regular clients dropped off her two dogs yesterday.
Now, we are a greyhound house and that's the majority of the clientele. But this family just adopted a lab and he's been dropped in the middle of a greyhound pack. My dogs were basically trying to figure out what the hell is going on. And in other news, my wife's 2010 Prius finally made it clear that it was time to be replaced. We went to a dealer that I've had good experiences and she picked up a new Crosstrek that has been a service loaner. Posted by: NR Pax at April 27, 2024 08:34 AM (lXCUP) 81

I started learning this yesterday, Jimmy Webb's finest song, as performed here by Men at Work's Colin Hay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB65PKfcW0g&loop=0
I got it all down just as Mr Hay does it, except for the little solo break, and found a source online for the guitar TAB, PayPal'd a swede $5, and now have it all. The descending bass line of the chorus " . . . and I need you more than want you . . . " sounds like a dream sequence on my '72 Martin D-18. Posted by: Mr Gaga at April 27, 2024 08:40 AM (KiBMU) 90

Morning Horde.
Prayers for those asking and needing. Sad week at work. Head on with a wrong way driver took the life of a coworkers wife. Huge Mexican Catholic family so many prayers being said and a giant support system but coworker is in a bad way. Then something I really don't need to start thinking about on a Saturday morning. Lawyers involved now. Hospital tried a "settlement" with the parents of the injured child. (there's that rage again...) I hate how they look at poor working folk like they can be bought off cheap. Adminstrators were told I'll show it to my lawyer and see what he thinks. "Settlement" was withdrawn. Need more coffee. I love you all and thank you. There is no place like here. Alvin "DEI" Bragg has screwed up the case against President Trump. It seems the second misdemeanor of "trying to promote an election" ONLY APPLIES TO NY STATE ELECTIONS, not federal elections. That means there is now no way to escape the statute of limitations on the other misdemeanor. In addition the President had turned over the operation of his companies to his sons before the entries in question were made in the ledgers. So he had no control over the entries. Hire clown employees, get clown results.

Over the last couple weeks, I've been gardening. Turned and cleared a plot of virgin earth, pulled furrows and planted with the boy for his vegetable garden. It's old hat for me, but it's his first time doing it, and he's totally jacked about it.
What I'm excited about is that I'm doing my first flower garden, because my four year old is obsessed with flowers, so I'm making her a place to go and see them whenever she wants. Did annuals last week. Delphinums, geraniums, snapdragons, and petunias. Going shopping for perennials today. Also, this is my second spring in this house. Last year, we had a late frost that killed all the flowers on my cherry blossom. No frost this year, but they died off pretty quickly anyway, which disappointed me, until I realized that it's not a cherry blossom. With no frost, it revealed itself as an actual cherry tree. Cherries all over the dang thing. Hundreds of 'em! I can't wait to eat those cherries. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at April 27, 2024 09:15 AM (0FoWg) 166

Yes, we have the seen same with a bluebird pair that is nesting in our yard. Crazy, right? Posted by: San Franpsycho at April 27, 2024 09:46 AM I've never seen the bluebirds do the seed passing, but I do see the male and female feed at the same time. - I'm not in an area where chipped beef is a thing, but I always thought it was more a sauce than a gravy. Gravy made properly involves the drippings of the meat and a certain degree of browning (Maillard?) that introduces flavor to the mixture. chipped beef in a Southern gravy on toast is probably really good. Posted by: Mike Hammer, -- I'm not saying this has anything to do with what was being discussed on this thread, but the other irritating part is that the end of anything - or at least a massive slowdown that might as well be an effective end - can come about because someone calls their friend and says "Hey, we were helping out this guy and I think we've found something interesting, is there anything you can tell me about X?" And two days later the friend calls back and says "Listen, between us, cut that out because that's tied to something we aren't ready or able to investigate" or "Stop because we don't need that being opened back up", and suddenly it's the job of the government employee friend that's at risk because the government employee boss told him that directly. And it can easily work the other direction, too. Need to charge the president for something? Hey, here's a traffic court judge to help! Plus, the CBI is taking some heat for long-standing irregularities with DNA handling by their crime lab, so are undoubtedly hypersensitive about forensic procedures. What irks me most is the obvious cooling of communications after initial enthusiasm when CBI came on board back in December. Posted by: Muldoon at April 27, 2024 10:41 AM (l4B/J) 331

---- The report came from a member of the church who said they had been contacted by one of the suspects, Marcell Bernette Bryant Renta, who allegedly made the threat in response to an accusation that her children took a speaker.... Investigators executed a search warrant at Renta’s home and reportedly found multiple weapons inside including a Glock handgun with an an illegal switch modification that made it into an automatic weapon. That gun was found under a mattress in the room of Renta’s son, Daniel Quardre Bryant. --- You're racist for noticing. I've owned a Benz convertible for most of my 29 years. I bought it used in 2004 and it is still a wonderful car to drive, with a V8 engine and cornering like you dream of. It costs me about $500 bucks a year to maintain, on average. Great car, except in snow. Thanks to its old drive system it sucks in snow.

Posted by: grammie winger - cheesehead at April 27, 2024 09:22 AM (SfhV1) A lot of the cooking there is done on "three rocks" or on a raised couple of rows of brick and a gridiron, which is dangerous for kids and women wearing dresses, and is dirty, dusty and toxic for lungs. In Southern Mexico the development groups are pushing the "Patsari" stoves, which can either use traditional comal-type cooking surfaces or actual stove lids for pots like the old cast iron ranges we used here. They are designed for efficient use of heat and safety for the kids to be around and have chimneys so they are more healthy even when they are burning old 5-gal plastic buckets for fuel, which is not unusual. You might suggest she look at the PATSARI stove design, and see if they can push that or start some sort of program to get those built. and let me know, please Posted by: Kindltot at April 27, 2024 11:15 AM (D7oie) 371
