Of course, said firearm may be a "rental" and have 15 bodies associated with it, with many recovered slugs awaiting ballistic matching to it.
That is what gun shows are for. Buy a replacement barrel with cash, if extra paranoid do same for firing pin. This is just plain good advice for any gun owner with an EDC firearm. Take the nice stock barrel, prep it for storage and leave it someplace in case you need to quickly swap out and destroy the gun-show barrel. "Clean" the barrel that needs to go away with a slightly smaller caliber drill bit, and be very sloppy and careless with its application. You may even consider sledge hammer and vice before tossing into a lake for more long term "storage". On the category of stupidest things one has ever heard, one of my favorites came when our relatives from way up North in Yankee Illinois Land came to visit our benighted rural region in NE Mississippi. My cousin had just gotten his driver's license, and wanted to go for a spin on some of the dirt roads that constituted most actual roads in our county, apart from one state highway.
So he's pulling out all the stops, pushing his father's car as close to its limits as possible, and, as you might suspect, he went into a skid and the car flipped completely over. Luckily, he wasn't injured, and was able to find a house where they would let him use their phone. We all turn up there, and before we can even say anything to my cousin, his father walks over to where he's standing, in front of a car now resting on its roof, and says "Give me those keys!" My father and I both looked at each other and I have a feeling he was thinking what I was - "Whoo-boy, you sure got him told! Who could tell what would happen if those keys hadn't been confiscated?" I always thought the Police monitored the phone because it would be used for drug activity. If the category could be extended to "strangest thing" one has ever heard said, I'd nominate "Did the Vet just say to put sugar on the cat's ass?"
Backstory on that was that the owner had rescued a kitten with a prolapsed rectum (which, I was told, is not an uncommon affliction of felines). The Vet couldn't really do anything for the kitten except, well, push it back in. Owner gets home, and once again, there's a prolapse. They call the Vet, who tells them that if they sprinkle some sugar on the afflicted area, the cat will lick it off, and reduce the swelling, so problem solved. The owner's husband overheard part of the call, and from what I understand, that statement was his response. Posted by: John Drake at April 05, 2024 11:54 PM (ruzO0) 269

They're even (symbolically) awarding belts to reflect one's level of mastery of the the BS in question. Or for part-time work, it's a minimum of 20 hrs each week totaling 2,000 hours in not more than 2 consecutive years. The non-routine part cracks me up. Accounting is only boring when done right. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan The planets do not orbit the sun. The planets and the sun orbit the center of gravity of the solar system. That point is sometimes inside the sun, but it can be hundreds of thousands of miles outside the sun, too. So the earth-sun distance varies as time goes on--excluding our elliptical orbit--by more than "an inch." The current barycenter of the solar system is about a solar radius outside the sun, but it'll be back inside the sun in 2027. And then back outside in 2033. The closest it'll be to the center of the sun in this half-millennium is in 2030. Posted by: scampydog A picture is worth 1000 words: https://tinyurl.com/3jkffsec It's a wikipedia link to a picture of the sun (yellow line), with the path of the center of the solar system (white line) drawn around it. Everything in the solar system is orbiting around that point on the white line, not around the center of the sun. The sun is 98+% of the mass in the solar system. But just as gravity is pulling the earth towards you just like it's pulling you towards the earth, the planets are pulling the sun towards themselves, too. Jupiter and Saturn, especially, are big enough and close enough to matter, so the sun winds up "orbiting" a point that's not inside the sun about half the time, and "wobbling" around a point inside the sun, but not at the center of the sun, the other half of the time. What is the producer of the gravity at the barycenter?
Posted by: polynikes The other masses. The barycenter is at the "very center" of where the equivalent mass would be. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) Correct. Consider a rope, acting as "the force of gravity". If you have an "infinite" mass, like a stake in the ground, at one end of the rope, and you hold the other end and run in a circle, you're orbiting that center. If my twin brother and I hold each end of the rope and try to do the same thing, we wind up orbiting a point in the exact center of the rope. If Lizzo holds one end and I hold the other, we orbit a point much closer to Lizzo than me. If Lizzo has 9 ropes and 9 dogs who total about 2% of her weight, it's like the solar system. Our barycenter is always inside the Earth, but it's closer to the crust than to the center of the Earth. Charon is about 1/8th the mass of Pluto, and they orbit a common point outside of Pluto. That said, no planet/moon system has a barycenter than wanders as far as the sun/planet system's does.
The only planets with large moons only have one moon, so it's a two-body problem, like my rope example. The solar system is..... well, a five-body problem (Sol, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) with some rounding errors for the other planets and some statistical noise for the moons and asteroids and comets and whatnot. Airplane (and even Airplane 2) are definite musts for superb comedy, and a case could be made that Police Squad, even though it was episodic TV, is one of the most deliriously funny things to come from the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams. Give Top Secret a try as well - it's one of Val Kilmore's best comedic performances, and while you're at it, check out Kentucky Fried Movie. Woody Allen's Love and Death is a treasure, and his films between 1966 and 1975 really hold up well. Post 1975, his movie Zelig is the only one that stands out as a rib-splitting exercise in the type of comedy Allen did best. (I've always wondered if Forrest Gump actually ripped off Zelig).

Speaking of which, has anyone heard the rumor that since the MSM and gummint are making such a big deal about seeing the eclipse, there must be an evil plan to somehow destroy a bunch of us while we're outside watching it? =OR= Will it be The Alien Reveal? JQ, would you believe that I haven't planted one fucking seed yet? Tomorrow, for sure. I've got the heat mats and the lights, etc. There will be herb seeds and of course peppers and tomatoes. My brother has started a mess of seeds in his hoop houses, including artichokes, greens and flowers. Out in the field - the usual suspects. Yellow corn, white corn, my Buehl heirloom corn, peppers, eggplant, okra of two kinds, squash, pumpkins, gourds, potatoes, peas, cucumbers and more flowers. OOOps. I was laughing so hard at Gutfeld that
I woke up Bailey. She's going to be 14 on Apr 14, big yellow lab, that's a long time for them. I scared her out of the room. Bales has bad hips, arthritis and dementia. But she perserves and still smiles at us. J thinks at times she should be put down after an "accident" inside. I'm just a sap, she's been such a good pal for so many yrs. I wake up and hope she's just expired naturally during the night. Damn dog just keeps on living. Now I posit it to J as such... if you have a touch of dementia are in pain, but it is tolerable would you rather be alive or be dead? This has been a struggle since Thanksgiving. Such is life.
