They are back.

Top: Dokibird, latterly Selen Tatsuki of Nijisanji until they forced her out, recreating her iconic opening theme now that she's returned to her original character.

Bottom: Mint Fantome, a.k.a. Maid Mint, formerly Pomu Rainpuff of Nijisanji until she got while the going was good, is returning to streaming this week also as her original character.

3 First-ish, anyway.

4 Just a whisker off first place!

Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers. Pixy, I believe you're due to go off of Daylight Saving this weekend? I keep my GMT watch set to Sydney time, because why not. I'll have to adjust the pointer.

It occurs to me that if I move to Indiana, a part with Central Time, I'll want to set the GMT hand to Eastern, since a half-hour drive could bring me right into that zone. Indiana is split. (Until fairly recently, some IN counties did not observe Daylight Saving, either -- so that must have been weird.)

Odd things to be ruminating on this early on a sticky warm morning.

7 We are supposed to see what is laughingly called a "cold" front around here by this evening or overnight into Wednesday. I'll believe it when I feel it.

Meanwhile, on MeTV, the young Morgan Fairchild is on a Barnaby Jones from 1978. Verra nice.

10 Mornin'

My refurbished laptop arrived the other day. A Dell. Nothing fancy. It has Win10 Pro at the moment but that will change, at some point. I'll put Linux on it, probably Mint. I have Mint on a couple of other machines and I like it. It's got an SSD which I haven't messed with much. I looked up the laptop documentation online. Looks easy enough to replace, if necessary. 256GB so not very big size wise.

12 Electric vehicle startup Canoo spent twice as much on the CEO's private jet last year as its total revenue.

Was it a private electric jet?

Posted by: Bruce at April 02, 2024 04:32 AM (vd8XM)

13 From the Canoo article...

"Separately, Canoo also paid Aquila Family Ventures $1.7 million in 2023, $1.1 million in 2022 and $500,000 in 2021 for shared services support in its Justin, Texas, corporate office facility, according to regulatory filings.

This could be chalked up to small monetary potatoes if Canoo reaches its revenue forecast for 2024 of $50 million to $100 million."

44 Every medical school could become tuition free with 1 weird trick: stop charging tuition.

When I went to Big 10 U, tuition was $50,000. And we were told that was just a small fraction (

Yet they could build a billion $ "County General" hospital and office buildings of stainless steel and glass artistically designed to resemble a boat on water.

The reason they are not tuition free is because
1: the government will pay
2: the debt is a gatekeeper
3: they are dicks, and imposing crippling debt on the newer generation makes them feel superior.

I would actually be fine with certain disciplines like medicine or civil engineering being tuition free (i.e. funded by taxes) if, and only if, the requirements to get accepted were very, very strict. You better have amazing grades and ace all your entrance exams before you're even entered into the lottery.

54 Last I recall, before I gave up cable, the Weather Channel's "Local on the 8s" had become more like "Local on the 16s," i.e., they were doing half the local weather reporting they used to.

The big black steer (Stirling) and the little gray heifer (Dagny) have been fed, and so have I. Got to face Tuesday. High today is to be a disgusting 86, and then the "cool" spell for the rest of the week will see 72-74. In April, I guess that's not too bad. I'd rather see highs in the 55-60 range, though.

171 That Atlantic article isn't really about free tuition. Its arguing for Marxism and wealth confiscation. “We don’t just need institutional design and fiscal choices, we also need to develop a set of public values that are culturally embedded, where material gain is not the leading incentive,” Robeyns writes. “We must rebalance our view of society, and our view of ourselves as human beings.”

It then continues to argue that annual income should be limited to no more than $5million a year.

Fuck You, Atlantic!

First, almost no one would work beyond the $5million limit and their lives would revolve around that limit. It is my understanding in the UK, salary is sacrificed for a tax-exempt benefit or a differently taxed perk (like a car service or jet use).

Second, economic growth would stagnate.

Third, I don't trust any government to properly spend the money they would confiscate. Certainly, I don't trust them more than the person who earned the money in the first place. Hell, right now I don't trust Congress to spend the money they are borrowing.
